Once you have drained the old oil out into your catch-pan, keep the drain plug OFF, and then pour an extra half quart of clean oil into the top of the engine to 'flush' the remaining gunk and grime out of the system. You will be amazed at how dirty it comes out initially, taking all remnants of the dirty old oil with it. After about 1/3rd of a quart you will see clean oil start to run out of your drain plug. Also, fill your filter with clean oil and and lubricate the O-ring with clean oil always.
+Austin Brown make sense pouring fresh oil to get all the rest of the old oil out. Although, I never done it, my driveway slopes down so most of the oil comes out anyway. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the tip , I did it and it came a lot of shit with it kind of black mud I don’t think is a waste of money , I will do it every time I change the oil
I agree with you, another thing is missing in the video, after putting the filter with oil you must start the car for a few seconds and turn it off, then start measuring the level
thanks for this video, when I come to Cuba my first car was murano 06,now 2012,I love murano.in you video you used synthetic oil, is better than conventional oil? I have over 78.000 miles, what kind of oil you recommend? sorry for my English, Bye
+Luis Ramirez no, that wasn't synthetic oil. I just use regular 5W30 Castrol oil and if you have 78000 miles already I would just use high mileage oil. but I still wouldn't use synthetic. Just my opinion.
+Luis Ramirez I would use just high mileage regular oil. Some people would use synthetic oil just because you can go 10k miles on it without changing, but I still rather use regular oil and change it every 3-5k miles. In my opinion fresh oil is always better, and never had any problems with my cars. But some cars do require synthetic oil, so just double check with dealer.
+Charles Kelley if it's not crushed you don't have to replace it. I sold my Murano with 68k mile and with same gasket and never had an oil leak. As long you don't over tight it, you can use multiple times. Before I install it, I always check gasket condition.
ViTaLiKs then it is not a crush washer but rather just a regular flat type washer. I understand that all crush washers get crushed in order to form a seal and are replaced the next to me around. What do you think?
+Charles Kelley yes it is regular OEM oil plug flat washer. I read online before that if you use copper crush washer then you have to replace them. Because they form as you tight them.
ViTaLiKs : I think I may have just learned something here. If the flat washer is OEM, it suggests that whoever changed my oil along the way may have slipped on the crush washer if the original washer was flat. Crush washers drive up cost of oil change. Wonder if we can do without the crush washer. Thank you for this information! I have '09 Murano and had oil change done at shop until recently doing it myself following your video. Your video is very helpful. Do you trust the Fram filter?
Opening filter by hand lol. Will be breaking your fingers if do it every day. Some filters especially on 4x4 and trucks wont open by hand. Should also use gloves.
I’m 32 and I changed my own oil by myself for the first time!!! Thank you!!!!!🎉

wasting oil my friend, there is always going to be dirty oil in there
For $3 of oil, i don't mind doing a more thorough job of flushing out the gunk.

Okay. I’m gonna try this on my 2012 tomorrow. Especially if I don’t need to raise the car and access the cap easily.
I didn't have to raise it up, I was able to do it of the ground. Good luck
Thanks for the video, made it super easy

A year and a half later im back to see how to do it again lol
thank you, my wife have a nissan Sentra with 92 miles, you recommend synthetic or conventional? thanks

11 owners of a an Hyundai Accent got confused watching this tutorial and disliked the video.
Well, there is no mention about the crush washer gasket on the oil plug. It has to be removed and a new one used otherwise the oil can leak.

+Charles Kelley I do, I've been using them for years on different makes and models; never had any problems with Fram filters.
Does the oil change alert reset by itself after you do the oil change or do you manually have to reset it?
+Sony Philip I always did manually, because I usually did my oil change every 3-4k miles
Good vid, save me a few minutes by watching your vid
You're welcome, glad it was helpful to you.
Thanks man 🤘🏼
+Michael Bughao I'm glad it was helpful
Thanks for the video!
+Bryan Skyline you're welcome, hopefully it did help you
How much oil you needed? One gallon was enough?
+Cronus Echo it takes about 4.5qt, I always get 5qt container that way I'll have enough.
How many QT of OIL you need for the Engine?
+john1240able it takes about 4.5qt, I used to buy 5qt container to make sure I would have enough.
Is it the same process for a 2010?
Yes, 2010 have same engine
Does anyone know if 2010 Murano can go from regular to synthetic oil?
+Freddy Medina I heard you can go from regular to synthetic but not the other way. If I were you, I would call my dealer to find out for sure.
Thanks!

If you do it for the living, I agree with you. However, I only work on my cars, and personally I hate wearing gloves when working on cars.
