    Rest In Peace Grandma Lida!
I am so shocked by this turn of events, when you found her (Grandma Lida) unable to answer the Door and Anna came and said that she had been feeling poorly for several days…. Then to see her unable to sit up!
And to hear Anna’s mother try to claim she was DRUNK.
Grandma Lida was incoherent because of the infection in her blood. More than likely it was sepsis; which is fatal if not caught early enough!
Thank you Sergei for following your instincts…. The money should have been given to the orphanage…. Just as you did!

As an Orthodox Christian, I was touched by Grandma Lida's selflessness, how she initially begged Sergei to help her neighbor instead of her, how she remained so loyal and affectionate to Anya, how she didn't want to inconvenience anyone, how she found peace and optimism under such terrible circumstances, etc. Her reward will be great in Heaven and she is much closer to our saints. And then I was disgusted by the attitude of Anya's mother... on her knees, crying, justifying herself, crossing herself, begging in CHRIST'S name for money. She showed all the outward signs of Orthodoxy, without any of the truth, humility, and spirit of Orthodoxy. God have mercy on her soul. I am ashamed.

I sense a little disdain about the fact kids are being cared for and while I get your feelings, children have no control over their future, however before we get to old age we all gain that control. It's on us to surround ourselves with people who hold our best interests and get our ducks in a row. Children thats not their responsibility it's the adults around them. Yes more needs to be done for our elders, but since the beginning of time we'd abandon our youth to care for the old, it's only been really the last hundred years kids have "mattered" beyond physical labor and lineage. If you don't protect the child they never become an elder in need of care once more. We must protect all of our vulnerable

She’d rather you help her than an orphanage?!? She’s disgusting and I wouldn’t do one thing to help this woman. She has manipulated her daughter and everyone else around her. I wouldn’t doubt if grandma Lidas condition is due to Anna’s mother keeping Anna away out of jealousy! I hope God forgives me for my harsh words, but you asked for opinions. This is mine.
