  • The town was founded on March 6, 1834, from land conveyed by John "Yellow Jacket" Bailey, and it was named after Captain Otway Burns, a naval hero of the War of 1812. In 1909, a statue of Captain Burns was given to the town by his grandson, Walter Francis Burns Sr., and it was set on a granite pedestal in the center of the town square. It has an inscription that reads, in part, "He Guarded Well Our Seas, Let Our Mountains Honor Him." Due to damages, the original statue was replaced in the early 2000s.
    I will be back for sure to show you more of this amazing mountain town. 🙂

    I do believe Captain Burns ship was called Snapdragon is how the bar was named. If you walked down the side of The old inn there is Ye Olde Country Store and next door Burnsville Health and Nutrition. walking little passed Hammond antiques there is another large restaurant called Homeplace Beer co. And Hog Hollow Wood Fire Pizza with great outdoor covered and uncovered seating with live bands true out the week, and they opened right next door one of their new Rest. called Second Home Restaurant. Across the street in a old gas station they are doing a renovation for a new glass blowing art studio. Thanks for coming out to our sweet little town.

    Hey Todd. I really enjoyed your video first of all! I am from Burnsville, and I wanted to pass along a tid bit of info to you, and to the future viewers of this video that may see this comment. The mountain top that you pointed out twice is not Mt. Mitchell. That is called Bowlens Pinnacle, which sits considerably lower than Mt. Mitchell. Although it is in that direction (behind bowlens pinnacle from that angle), that isn't Mt. Mitchell. No biggie, just wanted to throw that out there. Thanks for visiting our town, and hope you come back!

    Great town. How would you rate on scale of 1to 10

    • @toddventure
      @toddventure  2 роки тому

      Definitely a 10 for a mountain town. It's got everything you need shopping and going out to eat. Very quite but also convenient to Asheville and the Smoky Mountains.

      With all due respect, I lived in this town for 25 years and I must say there is absolutely nothing to do. Everyone knows everyone and everyone’s business. It is completely boring. No one has respect for that statue in the middle of the town. They use to put panties and bras on it. The town on a scale of 1 to 10 for me is a 4. If you really wanted something beautiful driving the Blue Ridge Mountains in the fall is the best because, you get a chance to see the different color leaves.

      Thank you for your concern. It was the altitude and completely out of shape. Since then, I have lost 15 lbs and doing much better. ❤️
