My personal favourite Final Fantasy game is "Final Fantasy X" Though I won't argue with anyone who would pick say "Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy IX" as their favourites as I understand how brilliant they are.
@Insight Hazard you're the first person I've seen say that. Most people discard that game, I thoroughly enjoyed XIII. I played Lightning Returns and wasn't crazy about it, but haven't played -2
FFX isn't my favorite game ever, but it comes in a close second (as of now). I've been playing it on and off since I was a toddler, and within my very core, FFX is my favorite.
As of now, I've only played 7 and 8, but I'd ADORE getting to FF10, especially considering how cheap it is. A website I go to is selling both X and X-2 for around $13, so I've gotta pick it up soon!
@@niche8137 In 6 you'll see all the things that eventually became 7. 10 is arguably better than 7, and I say this as a long and accomplished 7 player. 10 is much like 7 but more urgency and desperation in the story and characters. Best soundtrack by far as well. No questions asked pick up the PS4 version.
I think its a case of the meme overtaking the context: more people have seen the scene by itself without context than people who have played the game and gotten to that point in the story, and thats why it has become the butt of jokes despite it actually making sense: most people dont even KNOW it was supposed to be awkward by design.
It's still bad! I know it's made that way on purpose... but if I'm cringy as hell intentionally, that doesnt make it better! Ps: just realized this is from year ago! See you a year later I guess...
Wut? they kinda say it in their dialogue. How can you not get it? Is that why so many hate it? wtf? I just thought the laugh itself sounded weird and awkward. But I understood the scene, so I didn't care so much about it. I mean FFX was the first FF with voice acting, so it was the first FF where things started getting a bit awkward from time to time. But that's Japan for you I guess? KIngdom hearts is also like that, but it's not a big deal.
FF6 characters also had limit breaks, but referred to as "desperation attacks" usually happens when you are about to lose the battle and would often result to instant kill or a 9999 damage.
"Your first Final Fantasy becomes your favorite." You must be absolutely right, because despite your list, I would put Final Fantasy VIII as my number one.☺️ It was my first Final Fantasy ever, and now I'm hooked.
I wholeheartedly agree with the notion that the first one becomes ones favorite because FFX was my first, and still to this day, is my favorite of the bunch.
I wholeheartedly disagree. X was my first, and I just consider it okay. VII was much later for me, but it became my favorite. Then when I played IX, it was tied for favorite. However, the most recent FF for me was XIV, and despite multiplayer games not being my thing, let alone freaking MMOs, it absolutely eclipsed VII and IX for me.
The fact that you said you never completed Final Fantasy 9. Makes me want you to complete Final Fantasy 9. Once you beat the game you'll be happy that you did.
I'm not a fan of FF9 overall, but the ending scenes vastly improved my opinion of the game and especially Zidane as the main protagonist (he went from "meh" to "best protagonist in the series").
People are upset he does Top 10s?! This is one of the hardest working UA-camrs, he doesn't just beat game on a regular basis, but he 100%'s it. And then he goes and writes and records a video. So give the guy a little breathing room/
I just find it funny that for a top 10 list, he excluded all spin-offs, side-games and MMO versions of Final Fantasy. You realize that only leaves 12 titles left right? That means he only left 2 out of all possible choices off this list. I'm not complaining, I just find it funny. He should of cut it down to top 5 to give them more meaning in my opinion.
Grassy Bear Well no shit it would be the same list. But with the way he set up the parameters for which games he included for nomination, it leaves literally only 2 titles off the list. I just think it was bad wording to make it a "Top 10" rather than a "best to worst" list and then he could of included the last 2 titles. Yes the list would be the same if there are only 5, but when you tell everyone they're special, are any of then really special? That's my point about making a top 10 with only 12 options to choose from.
If you make a top 10 list, and there's only 10 options to even choose from, is it really a top 10? No. It becomes a "here's a list of all of them" video, not a "top 10 best" list.
*Remember kids, if this top10 doesn't match your opinion exactly the poster is wrong and should be digitally crucified for daring to make such a mistake*
I am one of those rare people who enjoy Final Fantasy IV the most, it's not even a childhood connection to the game I just love the characters and pacing of the game.
For me, it is a childhood connection, but I feel like it really set off what the rest of series was gonna be like; a set of stories that each come with their likable casts and interesting plots. =Y
Same here, I'm playing 6 as an adult but I grew up with 4. A lot of the good things that were brought to the series that Jirard talks about started in 4.. not 6 :P
Dude, I implore you to finish FFIX! The twists and turns the story take will be right up your alley, the sidequests are tons of fun, and the gameplay never feels like it gets stale. It's my all-time favorite RPG and I even danced with my wife to Melodies of Life at our wedding
Indeed he should. Getting passed the events in Treno will reward him with plenty of story. But Treno will be SO for our Bearded hero, that he might not want to leave, as there PLENTY of secrets both in and out of the City :)
The only thing that prevents this game from being the best RPG of all time for me is that it had that part where you were forced to play the card game even though it treats it like an option/extra before then. But besides that it’s perfect. Unforgettable characters, music, scenery, style, everything!
Jason Ortiz If anyone would admit that, they clearly play games for the wrong reasons. Or if nothing else, prioritize other elements of a game over the whole package.
Ah, Final Fantasy VI, the game with a one-dimensional villain so bland that he needed entirely rewritten when the game was localized (and Woolsey's version became canon). The game with half a story , that just forgets to give you the second half. The game whose heroes' only real motive throughout the game is that they're the protagonists. A hodgepodge of gimmicky characters where half of them have barely any development and the ones that do only have like 2-3 good scenes to go off of.
Altier Randomness Half a story and half open endness is a strength; best of both worlds. The rest is critique from a modern perspective mostly. Consider the game’s contemporaries.
Yes i agree aswell. But...its also the first one i played so that explains why its my favorite. :3 I just wanna play that game again cuz its so good! My favorite charaters were Vivi and Amarant (amarant cuz he's cool... dunno why) but Steiner was a super fun character. I havent finised ffVIII yet...(at the second disc x3)
@dedpul i defenetly understand why people dont like amarant...but i like him only of his looks...(i like edgy characters...i know thats stubid xd) i still gotta admit that i didnt like him at first one bit...i found him only useful because of his chakra by givin the team mp points ^-^" but...more i think about the character now...the less i like him...well...that explains it xd (sorry for the long reply...)
VI had desperation attacks, but you couldn’t rely on them and were so uncommon many players don’t know they exist. I’m pretty sure this is the origin of Limit Breaks, which VII made far more interesting and user friendly.
I think you're right. It was a good idea but severely underused, so glad limit breaks were created! They're awesome to use and add that little smidge extra strategy that forced you to decide whether to try and take damage or not when the limit bar was close to full.
VIII was my first game, but it's not my favorite (but in the Top 10). I was inspired to play IV by playing the first Dissidia. Cecil and Golbez fascinated me so much that I wanted to know more about them. That is where I began to play it. And it hooked me immediately and I didn't let go of it. The Story is great, the characters are great, the music is just amazing. There is actually no characrer I really dislike, okay, except for 2 (Rydia, because she was way more adorable and interesting when she was still a child (no pedo or homo). The moment she was introduced as an adult, all her charm was gone... Then Kain, who I couldn't stand from the beginning). Theme of Love is among my favorite Soundtracks of all time. Also FFIV contains 3 characters who win in each one categorie in my lists: Favorite Final Fantasy Main Character of all time (Cecil), Favorite Female Final Fantasy Character of all time (Rosa) and Favorite Animated Character of all time (Golbez). I have played it's sequel, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, as well for HOURS (this and FFIV combined, plus replaying and playing (almost) all versions (FFIV on SNES, GBA, DS, Android and Steam and the Sequel on Nintendo Wii, Android and Steam), probably 1000+ hours. And I am not even bored with 'em. This game just fascinates me. And it all started when I played Dissidia first and got hooked by both Cecil and Golbez (the latter was, is and will be always my main in every Dissidia Game ♡). It's, without a doubt, Hironobu Sakaguchi's Magnum Opus. And I am so gratefull for playing this Madterpiece.
Since this isn't a negative comment, and just 1 of almost 2000 comments, I won't be surprised if you never see this, but Final Fantasy 9 is in my opinion the best of the games, you owe it to yourself to play that to completion, it shouldn't be on the list unfinished.
I have the same problem as Jirard. I love playing it, but the furthest I've gotten is the beginning of disc 3. I don't know why I can never finish it lol
I use to have the same issue of finishing that game as well. Currently, I picked up the remake on PS4 and I'm storming through the story every time I get the chance (Nearing the end of disc 3 at the moment). It's like a final fantasy, jrpg gumbo; it contains all the awesome aspects of every single game leading to it. It's got airships, interesting kingdoms, lovable characters, and a bunch of stuff on the side that's loaded to the brim with extra content. Plus, compared to the other titles, it feels like I'm playing a folktale that has been passed down from generation to generation; gaining new aspects to the story from every new storyteller that somehow make the story even better. Personally, I believe that it's the one game in the entire Final Fantasy series that deserves the name Final Fantasy. Not because it's best in the series, but it *feels* like the proper way to end the Final Fantasy series.
Yeah, it is completely amazing. I think what happens with me is that my OCD kicks in and I try to get every single little thing, including all the abilities, which I guess eventually burns me out lmao
9 is fantastic it probably has the best ending of the entire franchise. The end game reveals to what Zidane and Kuja origins are great. I also like how it starts off light hearted and gets progressively more dark as the game goes on.
final fantasy IX will always be my favorite of all time. i love the entire cast, not only the main character, but the supporting cast too. the Tantalus crew is one of the best things in any final fantasy game. the black mages story is just heart breaking. this is my perfect game, the game i come back and play whenever i just want to feel good for a few days. if anyone deserves to be a Disney Princess, is Dagger.
Gabe playz Video games well it feels good to play the story again. it's not the happiest story but the character remain upbeat and funny all the way through :)
Final fantasy 7 will take the cake for me. Way back when I was in high school I got SUPER sick. I was in and out of the hospital constantly. I lost a lot of friends because putting up with my condition could be annoying or scary. So I dove into this game. And Advent Children. I fell in love with them. And it helped get me through what was probably the hardest time of my life. I was sad when you had to take the videos down, but I’m super excited to hear you’re bringing it back in a big way. I’m sure it’s gonna take some time, but I eagerly await that day.
i actually liked FFXIII so come at...wait...*equip paladin/champion's belt *cast protect *switch to sentinel *throws Hope in as meat shield...ok now come at me
I did too...somewhat. It's far from my favorite and I dislike several things about it, but it's also far from my least favorite. You might not necessarily agree but one thing I like that many people give it shit for is the characters. This video specifically shit on the development, but the development was actually a positive experience for me. I started the game hating basically all of them, except Sazh because Sazh was always cool. By the end of the game I loved/liked all of them...except snow because fuck snow. I also liked the general idea behind the story. Actually reminded me a bit of X which was my favorite. The whole "if things go wrong, we're fucked, if things go right, we're still fucked" kinda thing, like what happened with Yuna and Tidus. The battle system as a whole was OK in the sense of i'ma fan of ATB, but I hated that...I think I forget the mechanic...juggling? Staggering? You know what i mean, how you do very little damage to enemies until you hit a certain breaking point that makes them vulnerable for a certain amount of time. That turned me off a bit. The stories potential was great, but the devil is in the details. For starters, it flash backed that that firework scene way too god damn much. And one of its greatest strengths to me (by the end at least), its characters, took a long time for me to open up to which desensitized me to many early events. Also because it didn't feel like it had a real main character (lightning may be the mascot but everyone feels pretty equally involved), it felt a bit unfocused at times. It also made the times in focused on snow, the one person I disliked from start to finish, painful to sit through. It also sucked because of all the switching around it did. first I playing this group for 20+ minutes, then this group, then a different group, back to this other group...mot other games in the franchise at the very least keep you with the MC 90% of the time (rarely straying, and if so it doesn't stray for long) I hear complaints about the linearity, but thats not necessarily a problem for me. Afterall, my favorite FF game (and honestly my favorite game of all time) is just as linear, only opening up late game, just like XIII, and not a whole lot of reason to actually DO anything when the world opened up. You just go to an old spot for a few minutes to pick up some item or do some minigame to unlock a celestial weapon or capture weak ass monsters to unlock super bosses and move on. So X opening up is really almost a lie. But that didn't matter. Because the story and characters were so enjoyable I felt compelled to move forward. I may have been mostly forced to move forward, but it felt like I had agency because I truly WANTED to go forward. The game and i were in agreement. With XIII, because of the weak early story and characters...I didn't care about moving forward, thus it felt like I was forced into it. Also didn't help that the shops weren't actual shops and were just part of the save crystal thing IIRC, thus we were basically shopping online...made the world feel less alive even though it looked so beautiful with its next gen graphics compared to X. So the problem isn't that the game is linear, tis that the beginning of the game is so bleh that moving forward feels like a chore and not an adventure. The level up system. The sheer fact that it hard caps me. I'm a bit of a grinder by nature (on my 6th playthrough of kingdom hearts 1, I stayed on destiny island until I was max level just to see which, if any, early game bosses i could one shot and see how long I could one shot them XD) and dislike a game telling me "you cant go on...for now, but you totally can later :D". it really rustled my jimmies. I don't like being told "no" for an answer that should clearly be "yes". Honestly the game just didn't feel fun till a little over half way in. No game, especially a FF game which has a rabid fanbase with large expectations, should take that long to git gud. Also dont make us read so damn much. i'm not against reading. I like reading. BUT I'm not playing a game to read (unless theres no voice acting, but subtitles dont count!!! lol). All those text logs and stuff were so tedious. This is also a problem with XV. If you can't present your world, story, and characters properly enough through organic gameplay, then you failed, simple as that. And stop making up so many proper nouns damn it. The "fal cie" (spelling) cou;d have just been, i dunno, gods or something and "la cie" people chosen by the gods. Thats just one example, i only played the game once and that was on release And lastly, the combat roles. I LOVE the class job system in the FF series. After X, V is probably my favorite FF. And the thing about all those is, is that if everyone can do the same role, they should all be equal at it. The fact that everyone was really only good at a few things and completely sucked in other areas not only forces you to use characters you may not want to use because you need a particular role (by end game I only disliked snow as I said, but I'm in the minority. the fanbase seems to hate most of the characters, especially hope lol. so being forced to use certain ones can be an issue.) or be forced into a particular playstyle because of the battle mechanics and limited availability of said roles among all characters. Either make it so everyone is just 1 thing (like in FFIV) and dont let us switch at all, or let everyone switch to anything and have everyone be equals in those roles. I like my freedom, tyvm But thats the negatives. The game looks beautiful, the characters EVENTUALLY become likable, the story is overall interesting. The game itself is so freaking interesting that here i am talking about its pro's and cons on the internet. I think it's biggest sin is that it has so much missed potential. This had the potential to be a truly fantastic game and ended up (in my opinion, I understand you feel different) one of the greats. But its so middle of the road for me.
Thanks for not pooping on 13. Everyone in my circle adored it, I was shocked to find out it was so unpopular on the net after finishing it (was trying to avoid spoilers while I competed it). You also had all of my favorites being 10 and 7 were in there too! Extra points for mentioning 14~
Its fucking awful the junction system ruins it. Ahhhh don’t miss those days players were expected to enjoy the game mechanic of being psychic to beat a game
@@kratos.8151 dude what do you mean? I was an 8yo kid when I was playing it and I was doing great. It's not a super complex system and, imho, it makes the players strategize more if they should use strong magics for junctions or combat or just junction them but be ready to have their stats worsen as the combats continue if they don't have access to the card transmutation system. I still remember when the game introduces you to Status Junctions and I learned to do Sleeping attacks, Slow attacks or Novox attacks. Plus, acquiring some GFs trivializes some fights, even some boss ones (like using Cerberus and then Carbuncle on your party against Edea made her completely useless). It's not a perfect system (far from it) but it doesn't ruin the game.
limit breaks started in FF6 bro. They were rather hidden, they only activated at low health and it didn't really call attention to them, but they were there
Michael Mooney They were called Desperation Attacks, not limit breaks. Yes they were the precursor to the limit breaks used in ff7 and on, but thats it.
They're completely useless though. One might argue that an implementation this thoroughly failed doesn't really count. I mean, even Trance in FF9 has more uses.
My favourite is FF9, but hearing where you stopped you REALLY need to keep going. One of my favourite scenes and probably one of the most powerful in gaming is at the end of disc 3. It's exactly what someone needs if they're experiencing a rough time. Please keep going with it, even if the ending is a little strange.
AHylianWarrior He really does. I recently got it on my ps4 and been putting so much time into it, grinding to master skills so my party gets even better, vivi with all the magics, freya and her godly dragoon skills, dagger with summons and so forth. I missed this game so so much and love it to pieces. 💙
Final fantasy xi has one of the most underrated stories in a final fantasy. Hopefully one day we will get an offline streamlined version. That will do it justice.
I'm a little disappointed 5 didn't get a slot. I really like the job system from that one and it's a really good "classic feel" Final Fantasy. Other than that, I don't have a lot of beef. Mostly I'm just commenting to brag that I've seen Nobuo Uematsu play the entirety of Dancing Mad from FF6 live with his band the Earthbound Papas, and it was awesome.
It's so nice to hear theres another FF13 fan out there! One of my faves in the series. I'm gonna go check out your defending vid now. Game needs more love!
i also love 13, however f*** some of those side quests, like giant cautuar and the fuckerss the require either insta death spam or overleveled. i never got around to finishing it but i will soon reply it as well as its sequels. (the music is so good especially 13-2's last hunter)
RIght? I loved the game up to the point my little brother deleted my file 30 hours in. Still have yet to finished but I still loved every second of it.
yeah; it definitely has one of my favourite iterations of the job-system. i also feel like there's some potential to go more in-depth with the story if they did a proper remake.
Suplexing a train, saving all your party members, and defeating a god clown.....yeah it's such a good game but 5 still gets my top spot. Fighting an evil tree was too cool, also love the job system, and the funny parts of the plot. Never forget our dear ol' Gualf. He went Super Saiyan Grandpa for our sins. But all jokes aside, this was the first one I played. Back in High school my friends goofed around with emulators and I saw them playing FFV, so I tried my hand at emulating it and I never spent a moment in my computer doing the programming work for it. I just kept playing my FFV and going through it again and again. By then end of the day, everyone has their favorite FF game. Be it for your game having the favorite moments or the greatest characters, share what you love with others! Not bash someone for not loving FF7 or hating on people that don't love the first game of the series. Just try your best to share what you loved and convince your friends to play it! That way you might just spark another lover of the FF series.
Agreed, Final Fantasy V is fantastic! One of the things that I love most about the series is that each game feels so distinct from the others without losing what makes a Final Fantasy a Final Fantasy game. I never understood why people complained about the difficulty of V, though. Going in, I heard that it was really tough, but the only hard part was Exdeath's final form. The only way I was able to beat it was by mimic-ing gil toss with all of my guys to attack all the parts of it at once. I really want to replay it soon to 100% the game, and beat it legit!
I am a little sad you had no mention of FFV. It didn't come to the states until a ps1 port packaged alongside FFVI, but it was a solid game. Graphically it was still on FFIV's level, with some added polish, and while it wasn't Nobuo's best work, it did give us the eternally awesome Battle on the Big Bridge. And with it Gilgamesh, the only TRUE reoccurring character! But what makes it stand out was the job system. It's version of the job system was the most polished imo, and it allowed for some outstanding customization. And it's story was solid, the main cast were enjoyable, and had decent arcs to boot. And while the over arcing villain of FFIV was sorta just there last minute, FFV's antagonist, X-Death, is a clear and imposing threat from the first time you hear about him early on, building this sense of dread over this imposing magical emperor figure. I love almost all Final Fantasy games, except 2... it means well, but... *ahem* So it is nice to hear someone speak so passionately, and though we do not share the same ordering, it is always fun to see another's point of view. Thanks for another great video!
TheDarkM me too, the thing I hate the most is the comparisons to VII and VIII, it's like people are saying it's a fact that VII is better and VIII is just shit.
I love FF8, really connected with Squall at the time with where I was in life. That being so low and 15 being above 4 are the only real differences I have with this list.
I like it a lot too, but I understand the hate. The GF Junction system isn't as good as the materia system from FFVII or as the AP system from IX, and the story feels a bit all over the place at some points. Still a great game in my opinion though.
I loved 8 when I played it all those years ago. Looking back I feel like the only actual problem is that you have to draw from monsters so many times. I think if you could just draw once or so, the game would be just fine
Idot it took me 14 hours to complete Final Fantasy 4 what the hell is going on with his review? In the time it's been since his Final Fantasy 3 review I have completed Final Fantasy 1 4 5 7 8 and 9.
Good because he hurts me everytime he shits on XIII. Name me one influential UA-camr that actually likes XIII? None. AlphaOmegaSin doesn't count he's a complete tool.
Literally everyone. But if you need names (at the time) Spoony. No one likes that peice of shit except for contrarians, and people who don't ACTUALLY want to play a game, they want to watch a movie filled with shitty characters and plot. FFXIII is Spirits Within: The Game. Nothing to do with FF Terrible characters Nonsensical writing that breaks it's own rules.
8 was my first and so the benchmark for a lot. the love story is what made me love it the most... Romantic at heart, but for a pure rpg game 6 is amazing. Didn't finish it but saw its potential and want to.
The music of Final Fantasy 8 is quite amazing. Gets pretty shafted from what I see though. anyways, from what I've played. 1. FFVII 2. FFX 3. FFVIII 4. FFIX 5. FFVI 6. FFIV
You're right when you said your first Final Fantasy will be your favorite, and that applies to me as well. Final Fantasy 4 was my first, and I consider it my favorite.
I am legitimately shocked Final Fantasy 7 wasn't #1. Also, Jirard, you need to get in contact with Team Four Star and get a role in FF7 Machinabridged.
So glad to see FFVIII here. My first RPG, JRPG, and Final Fantasy, despite its clear flaws, will always hold an extremely special place in my heart. I'd love to play a better-translated version (or the original Japanese if I can learn the language).
@@lawsonashurst7314 He was talking about JRPGs. Western RPGs are a very different genre, despite their common origins. And besides, none of those are as good as FF6 or Chrono Trigger. ;)
@@Jayce_Alexander i learned that from a previous reply, and i was joking, but it's heavily debatable and based upon what you want out of an RPG, i prefer WRPGs, cause they tend to have legitimate roleplaying and not just base itself having turn based combat and party mechanics. Despite absolutely loving the JRPG genre, WRPG tend to be way better on the side of roleplaying, whereas JRPGs usually have better world-building and exploration, and whatnot in my experience.
I had heard that the DS remake was unnecessarily difficult, the gameplay gimmick wasn't introduced well, and the voice acting I had seen from it was... questionable. But if you enjoyed it, I won't say that you're wrong.
Dude what are you talking about, if you know how that game works it gets easy as hell, sure, some fights are difficult but if you manage to understand it gets so easy, if you know how to play the game you can easily do 2000+ damage as soon as you get polom and porom, not to mention using the items do as much damage as magic and you don't even waste mp, you can even cast the "Break" magic later on in the game trough a item and sometimes it can instakill enemies, perfect for farming purposes, they mixed FFIII item abilities with FFIV and it was awesome, and what do you mean the voice acting was quesitonable?!?! Yuri lowenthal and Liam o brian where perfect casts for Cecil and Kain, in fact everyone was! if only Square did the same with the old school final fantasy games, i imagine everyone would fall in love with final fantasy more and more.
You have to understand that some of my knowledge of the game is secondhand. I didn't play it mostly off of recommendation from friends (plus, FFIV isn't my favorite of the early FFs). I won't budge on the voice acting though. Again, I didn't hear much of it, but Cecil's ridiculous shrieking of "WHY?!" somehow turned the destruction of Mist into a comedy.
I wouldn't say a full remake since I dunno it just feels like it would be needlessly melodramatic with full 3d models. It's the kinda game that should be paired with high detailed models smaller not particularly sprites though.
I'll always admire the Gameboy Advance versions of FFIV, FFV, and FFVI. They are faithful to the originals, but clean up the translation issues, give us a better script, restore the gameplay to what it was meant to be, and fix some bugs. The graphics are delicately enhanced, without deviating too far. Then there's a bit of extra post-game content for fun. I want every Final Fantasy to always have a version available along these lines. Beyond that, it would be cool to see FFVI get something like what FFIII and FFIV got on the DS. Or what Secret of Mana is getting, soon. A humble, not-too-fancy update where the characters can get a bit more definition and start to resemble their original designs more than just a squatty sprite. Maybe some of the story scenes are a bit more expanded, or concepts are expressed with more detail. It's hard to imagine the soundtrack needing any improvement, but a fresh take on it with today's tech might be interesting -- imagine the Opera scene with voiced lyrics, or Dancing Mad empowered with modern instruments and samples. One thing I used to wish for, was a full-on modern HD remake of the game, using advanced graphical techniques so that the whole game really looked like Yoshitaka Amano's original art style. They could do that today if they wanted, however, the cynical grown-up in me knows that Square Enix would never had the desire or ability to do that.
+DreyfussFrost I assume your sentiment is to keep the game as faithful to the original design as possible. However, the SNES version of FFVI is terrible. Pubs are censored to be "cafés," much of the English script is nonsense, item names are meaningless gobbledygook. There are some pretty huge bugs that need addressing, including Relm's "Sketch" ability crashing the game if you use it on certain enemies (I think it might even permanently corrupt your save file), and the "Vigor" stat never even did anything. I loved FFVI on SNES as much as anyone, but let's not pretend it is perfect and couldn't benefit from some improvements.
Final Fantasy X will always be my personal favorite. It's was the game that made me love RPG and it's a big part of my childhood. No words can describe my love for this masterpiece... If you, who are reading this haven't play this game it's an experience you have to live at least once in your life
dakota webb I cannot recommend this highly enough. That game isn’t just fun (best turn-based FF gameplay IMO)-it’s profoundly moving. From the unbelievable set design, the world building that makes you truly care, the mind-blowingly brilliant plot, and my personal favorite FF soundtrack, it’s a masterpiece that should be experienced by everyone willing to give it a go.
kwhyland I’m playing 9 right now because it’s on the Xbox game pass, I’ll consider buying it after i finish 9, and if I do I’ll let u know what I think
Beautifully constructed list with heartfelt explanation, a true FF fan. My #1 FF game also happens to be the first one I played growing up. Keep up the amazing content!
Eric Jones V seemed like such a letdown after 4 to me, but then again, I’m not a fan of the job class system. I much prefer larger casts and the job class system tends to limit it at around 4 playable characters.
I'm a nugget and a half but I might as well put my top 5 here too. #1 FF7: Crisis Core- As a writer and just someone who enjoys good character work, seeing the behind the scenes of one of gaming's biggest bads as well as how Zack Fair handled it all just stuck with me. It's the reason why FF7 is my favourite mainline game and overall just one of the best RPGs I've ever had the pleasure of playing. #2 FF6- I cannot stress enough how incredible this game, its music, storytelling and character work is. It throws you for loops, it gets you emotionally invested, it makes you want to be the best you possibly can. It's an experience, and a damn good one at that. #3 FF4- This is a weird one just because of how tenuous it is. Square tried a lot of new things and it really shows with how the story goes down. Cecil remains one of my all-time favourite protagonists and it warms my heart seeing him. #4 FF9- I love this game, not for it's world or music or even it's motley cast of ridculous and charismatic protagonists (though they're all huge factors) but for Kuja. Ffor some reason, Kuja is and perhaps always will be one of the most interesting characters in all of Final Fantasy and his performance, origin, story and mentally never ceases to intrigue and impress me. #5 FF TYpe-0- It's one that really isn't spoken about a lot, but it's a game I really genuinely enjoyed. I loved the characters and the almost Dynasty Warriors-esque scope of it all. I loved the music and the way the game made me feel as a new member having my first foray into Final Fantasy game on console. It just has a special place in my heart and I feel like it deserves more recognition that it usually gets.
While I can appreciate your problems with FFVIII, I believe it has the #1 soundtrack in the entire series. So many amazing tracks: 'Don't Be Afraid', 'Force Your Way', and 'The Man With The Machine Gun' to name a few. Top 10 all time soundtracks for me.
It's always interesting to see how split people are on 8. You really do either seem to love it or hate it. It's by far my favorite in the series. The atmosphere and art really push it beyond the rest for me. Definitely something special I haven't seen anywhere else in the medium. I don't care about the Draw system or the card thing, the mechanics aren't what do it for me. Just the art of it. But we all have wildly different opinions. I really, really don't like 9. I tried to play through it a year or two ago, and it was just so boring. I watched a LP to finish it, still didn't like it whatsoever. It's like 8 is everything I like in the series, while 9 is everything I don't. They're drastically different games, so that makes enough sense.
Final fantasy 6 wasn't my favourite by a long shot but you were right. Your first final fantasy becomes your favourite. Mine is Crisis Core to this day.
My favorite is honestly FFIV because it was my first and then my 2nd was FFV because of its job system and being my second played and my third favorite is FFVI because of how The Completionist explained already i know i will get hate but idc.
1. FF9 (PS1) 2. FF5 (PS1) 3. FF Tactics, FF12 The Zodiac Age, FF Tactics Advanced 4. FF6 (PS1) 5. FF7 (PS1/PS4), FF7 Remake, Crisis Core Reunion (PS5), Dirge of Cerberus 6. FF 15 *Royal Edition with all DLC 7. FF 13 Trilogy, FF Type-0 HD 8. Dissidia 2&1 (PSP), FF 1 (PS1) 9. FF16 (PS5) 10. FF3 (DS version) 11. FFX (PS2) 12. FF Crystal Chronicles (G.C.) 13. World of FF (PS Vita) 14. FF4 (PS1) 15. FF8 (PS1) 16. FF2 (PS1) *haven't completed story 11, 14 not played The ones on the same lines are not ties for the same place they are there because I largely consider them complementary to the larger storyline of that games unique universe's mythology and lore.
I sitill love FF V for its post game content :O I mean.. holy.. 5! 5! Secret Superbosses, A secret Boss rush, an entire secret Dungeon based on the Void and a Character that is mentioned in some Books in the Game.
I would agree. I adore Final Fantasy 5. It's a wonderful game. The stuff that the competitionist liked about FF3 was sharpened and enhanced in 5. Plus Battle on the Big Bridge and Gilgamesh.
I'd say my list goes something like: 1- FF6 2 - FF12 3 - FF8 4 - FF10 5 - FF9 6 - FF7 7 - FF5 8 - FF4 9 - FF1 10 - FF13 Worth noting that I've never played 3, so I really can't say about it, though I know a lot of folks pan it. Also road trip bros is just not my jam.
Always has been the reverse order for me due to Chrono Trigger's gameplay and replayability with it's multiple endings. FF6 definitly has the better story and characters but for the rest those 2 games are pretty much a tie.
I liked XIII even though it takes awhile to really get into. As a kid I always looked forward to the next final fantasy because there's always something different in each game.
I believe a designer at Square Enix has actually said that if remaking VII is Super Hard mode, remaking VI is Impossible mode. It's just too big and intricate.
@@Massiveillusion14 Gotta agree. 6 was way too bloated and people wouldn’t really like it nowadays. It worked back then, it won’t work or resonate with today.
#1. Final Fantasy Tactics/FF7/ FF9 (3 way tie lol) #2. FF10 #3. FF6 #4. FF8 (Best card game in video game history in this game imo) #5. FF10-2 #6. FF12 #7. FF5 #8. FF13/FF13-2/FF15 (another 3 way tie) #9 FF1 #10. FF2 Now, 2 things. 1. I've never played FF3 and FF4, and I've heard amazing things about FF4 so I'm sure if I had played it, it would be on the list. 2. Final Fantasy is my absolute FAVORITE VIDEO GAME SERIES EVER BY FAR! So even tho FF2 is all the way down at #10, I still absolutely LOVE it. FF Tactics, 7, 9, and 10 are all in my top 5 favorite games of ALL TIME. I fucking love Final Fantasy.
Haha I never finished FF8 because I got derailed playing the card game and lost interest/forgot what was going on in the main story. FFT is the best though, 100% agreed,
If FFT, FF7, FF9 and FF10 are in your top 5 favorite games of all time, what's the remaining non-FF game? Also I happed to almost perfectly agree with your list...... with the exception of #5. XD
FF Tactics is my all time favorite game, not just for FF series but to all the games I ever played. It's nice to know that someone also like the game. I also hope to see a FF 6 Remake!
XII is my favourite because of the nuanced almost Shakespearean plot and the fudgeton of sidequests and optional stuff, and it has the best Gilgamesh fight in the series too.
12 is my favorite too, but for different reasons; I don't care much for the quest to restore a throne plot, I more love the setting, the world, and the atmosphere, I just love Ivalice
Agreed. And I'm a bit confused how FF1 gets no love in this or Watch Mojo's list when literally every other game would not exist without it. Yeesh. My takeaway is the makers of this list tend to be too young, so they started on 6, 7, and above, and then go back and play FF1 and cannot get over the 8 bit graphics and basic plot. They have no context for how good it was vs. competition then.
Sashrunner yeah I used to play the game so regularly that I basically knew the optionimsed weapon path well into disk 2 like for zidane the first boss had mage masher which u can't get other then that till the first town after alexandria so u would have to use his standard dagger through the forest and ice cavern if u don't steal it there and by then it's replaced by a mithril dagger that u can steal from the first black waltz
If you steal constantly with Zidane early on his thievery skill becomes one of the most stupidly OP moves in the game. Its great. It's also a great way to keep your inventory nice and fat.
Seeing IV so low on the list and not even seeing V on the list is so incredibly painful, but I respect your opinion, it's not like you were trying to hurt me with this list :P
The only thing that was hurt in this list was his opinion's credibility. V arguably has the best job system of any of the FF games. The job system which basically solidified FF's role in becoming one of the most influential rpgs ever. But 13 made the list over that...yeah...there's a reason why I don't take beardman's opinions seriously. Yeah it's all for fun but fuck, he can be downright stupid with his preferences sometimes.
SuperKeith00 That's why I just have to respect his opinion. I'd argue FFVIII, XIII, and XV not only have bad stories but bad gameplay as well but I know others feel differently.
True but the gameplay elevates it beyond it's mediocre story, it's some of the best in the series. Plus it's not like the story is bad, it has it's own twists & turns which are pretty good in their own right. It's got a nice difficulty to it & has a ton of side content & bosses to discover. It's also one entry that doesn't swap out the main villain near the end for some big bad you've never heard of before.
You don't have to respect his opinion, I certainly don't. I think many aspects of his opinions are absurd. I respect his right to state it though. It's part of the beauty of having the freedom to speak your mind.
Personally for me FFX Will always be my favorite. I've actually never played VI before, so I might have to give it a chance. The box art for that game has always stood out to me. The one thing is I think it might be a little too dated for me to really enjoy it. I'm someone that loves FFVII for its characters and story, but the gameplay just is not entertaining to me. I'm afraid FFVI might give me a similar feeling.
ok so i know this is your own opinion but finish 9 then tell me 10 is better because 9 was and still is a masterpiece, 9 is one of those games if i had to play a million times id never tire of it my personal list is 10: 10 9: 8 8: 3 7: 2 6: 1 5: 5 4: 4 3: 6 2: 7 1: 9
I can agree that Xenogears is not a perfect game, from the battle system that is not one of the most strategic until the infamous second disc, but as a whole it is an experience I have rarely experienced in games
I dig your choices on this list, particularly that you didn't list a ton of the older, less story driven games. I do not think I could really get into any of them besides for an obviously 6. 10 & 7 will always be my favorites. Also props for coming out the gate swinging with some unconventional choices. 8 & 13 certainly have their merits.
Aside from the 2d graphics (which I love), this is why FFVI is considered the best: It contains a solid introduction, a masterful soundtrack, a large assembled cast of developed (most of em) characters, several iconic scenes including the oprah house scene, tons of optional content that contain many boss battles of which coincide with the development of the characters and their respecive story arcs, an overall rich storyline with no real single main character and accompanied by an expansive setting and great lore (they all are main characters!!), and last but not least, the single most hated FF villain who (not only succeeds in destroying the world) gets away with killing possibly billions of people; including the entire family of one of the main characters and also ends up murdering two party members (one of whom you have the option of saving!). I really feel that this arguably is the only final fantasy game even close to being the "complete package" and it came out on the SNES about 25 years ago. As for FFVII (haven't played the remake), very influential game with the 3d graphics and a wonderful start at Midgar. That said, outside of the Cloud and Aerith relationship, the game struggles to give me something to truly care about. Nibelheim is the most you see of Sephiroth in the game, a small cast (two of whom are optional and feeling kinda under developed) that feels overal empty and (from what I remember) lacked proper chemistry. I found Cid and Barret to be boring and they also small storylines that are resolved rather quickly, or at least it feels that way. All in all, FFVII is a solid entry with great music and setting (Midgar city and Aerith's theme are both my favorites). Most of all, I loved Cloud and Aerith relationship/chemistry.
TL;DR: FF1 and 3 are good, 4 is good to great, 6 is excellent. 7 and 9 are mostly good. 10 and 13 have great things going for them but are hard to recommend due to glaring flaws that become apparent only after investing huge amounts of time into them. From 7 onward the spectacle and production values are amazing (for their time), though they have varying levels of quality underlying the other aspects. Final Fantasy 1 (GBA) was a fun, simple, well crafted game that nailed the satisfying RPG essence of adventure, exploration, and growing your party. FF2 (also played on GBA) took that formula and added an interesting (if somewhat forgettable) story and characters to it. FF3 (DS) took the foundation of the first and improved the gameplay greatly, though it also seemed to begin the trend of cheap and frustrating endgame dungeons that plague so many future titles. FF4 took the satisfying gameplay of the first games and delivered the first truly epic feeling story of the series. However, I made it to the final dungeon on both GBA and DS and didn't finish the game until it came to iOS, which had more generous saving (and I don't usually play games on phone). Diving into a dungeon for hours with no saves and then suddenly getting killed by a boss-like random encounter spells terrible game design. Leave that stuff to optional dungeons for completionists who enjoy completing obscure side quests and grinding, not as a pace breaking barrier to completing the story. FF6 (played on GBA), along with the iOS version of FF4, are the only to FF games that I unequivocally consider to be great games. FF6 is the pinnacle (as long as you don't mind SNES style pixel graphics. Also, the original English translation doesn't hold up without a nostalgia filter). FF7 begins the trend of amazing production values, intriguing premise, but ultimately very flawed game once you dive in. The story has great moments, but it ultimately falls flat once you realize Sephiroth is a poorly developed character/villain, and the whole game is about chasing him. FF8... I didn't like the gameplay, and never finished it. Beautiful and technically impressive game for the time, but I don't like when all party members are effectively the same in combat. The whole game just got stale over time. FF9 is amazing. Love the visuals, character designs, gameplay (except for ridiculous load times and random encounter rates of the original which the PC and PS4 version seems to have fixed). However I can't recommend it wholeheartedly (especially to someone not familiar with JRPGs) because it also falls somewhat flat towards the end. FF10, like 9, is also amazing and starts to fall flat towards the end. Story ends up convoluted and pacing comes to a crawl due to excessive need for either grinding or obscure side quests to survive. Beautiful visuals and music. Good cast. FF13 has all the great attributes of 7, 9, and 10 in that it's an intriguing premise with interesting characters and amazing visuals and especially music... but the game itself drags on waay too long. It may also be too linear depending on your tastes.
Danny Hargreaves Correct, I haven't played V, XI, XII, XIV, or XV. Since writing this post I've been playing Bravely Default (sometimes way too much) and it's now one of my favorite Final Fantasy games.
I’m currently playing 6 and I gotta say if I wasn’t already passed that point your description of Terra would’ve seriously pissed me off! You spoiled a MAJOR plot point man!
Although to be fair, the game came out in 1994. So it's kind of like saying Darth Vader is... you know. :) Also HOLY CRAP I just realized that 1994 was basically a quarter-century ago. Holy crap, we're all old. And this is the future. I'm going to go cry now.
1: Final Fantasy VII (PSX) 2: Final Fantasy X (PS2) 3: Final Fantasy VI (SNES) 4: Final Fantasy IX (PSX) 5: Final Fantasy IV (SNES) 6: Final Fantasy VIII (PSX) 7: Final Fantasy (NES) I’ve never played II, III, V, XI, XII, XIII, XIV, or XV
spectrecutlass I would highly recommend playing 15. When you beat that you should buy and play the DLC, as they’ll give you further backstory on the characters and from what I’ve heard they’re really well made and worth the price.
My first FF game was Final Fantasy XV, and I only just completed it today. I honestly loved every second of it and am looking forward to playing other games in the series. What are everyone's personal recommendations? I did love the real time combat and open world aspect, even if the story was really average. I'd have loved the idea purely being four best mates roadtripping through different towns and regions exploring and hunting for bounty money on an extended gap year before Noct is crowned king, without all the stuff that happened post Altissa. Pretty simplistic, but the charm of XV (for me) came from the simplistic gameplay loop and awesome chemistry between Noct, Gladio, Ignis and Prompto.
I did a FF8 deep dive this year and it completely changed my opinion on it. Squall is much deeper than I remembered, and the ending is one of the best in the series. The part of them all being from the same orphanage was a bit unnecessary though. Give it another go.
My personal favourite Final Fantasy game is "Final Fantasy X"
Though I won't argue with anyone who would pick say "Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy IX" as their favourites as I understand how brilliant they are.
Same
@Insight Hazard you're the first person I've seen say that.
Fucking thank you for explaining the laughing scene.
I don't know how so many people missed the point.
I played it as a kid still learning English (not my first language) and still got it.. Silly people
I think its a case of the meme overtaking the context: more people have seen the scene by itself without context than people who have played the game and gotten to that point in the story, and thats why it has become the butt of jokes despite it actually making sense: most people dont even KNOW it was supposed to be awkward by design.
Because typically it's played out of context
They were apparently pretty rare though. I never experienced one on my first playthrough.
@@edwardboland8957 I was going to say, I didnt remember getting one at all.
I've only gotten 1 and I've played the game through several times.
You also had to have certain weapons equipped as well if I recall.
I only got one for my entire play through and it was Locke’s
"Your first Final Fantasy becomes your favorite."
You must be absolutely right, because despite your list, I would put Final Fantasy VIII as my number one.☺️
It was my first Final Fantasy ever, and now I'm hooked.
Princess Brianna FFVIII FTW!
FFXIII was my first final fantasy, and yeah it's my favorite.
@@keybladesrus nice! I haven't ever played XIV so I'll have to try it sometime.
The fact that you said you never completed Final Fantasy 9. Makes me want you to complete Final Fantasy 9. Once you beat the game you'll be happy that you did.
SuperKeith00 I am not sure if Jirard will like the Jumproping.
Excalibur II and King of jump rope...
Jigsaw B I didn't think about that....Good point.
yeah too bad it took years for someone to find the one talking scene that not even the creators remembered that they put in the game
That's my point about making a top 10 with only 12 options to choose from.
.....yet you still watched the video? Were you upset by this video? Did it offend you? Should you get a life?
23456dc Yes I did. Nope. Not at all. Probably.
Sorry that you guys can't handle a simple comment. I think you're the one who was offended.
If you make a top 10 list, and there's only 10 options to even choose from, is it really a top 10? No. It becomes a "here's a list of all of them" video, not a "top 10 best" list.
7 will always be my favorite, but I can't hate on anyone for picking 6. Both are classics.
^^^^^^^^^^^
I'm still waiting for another experience like FF6.
I m still waiting for FF6 remake
Goddamn, I agree so much. There will never be another gaming experience like it, I fear. It is the most complete game of all time.
Xenoblade chronicles maybe?
How they handled the diverging plotlines was great, still stands out even today in terms of great storytelling.
I shall attempt to provide just such an experience.
FF8 is *cough* my favorite Final Fantasy, flaws and all.
Graphics were a huge improvement over 7
Is the 8 remake any good?
Its a great game. Its such a good one to play on a snowy day and vibe too.
the junction system sucks so I didnt play it
What I love from ff8 is doomtrain and Diablos obtaining them was a priority as soon as a was able to get the chance to get them I would
*Remember kids, if this top10 doesn't match your opinion exactly the poster is wrong and should be digitally crucified for daring to make such a mistake*
InMaTeofDeath crucified upside down like st Peter?
Exactly
If your opinion is different from mine you are wrong!
I am one of those rare people who enjoy Final Fantasy IV the most, it's not even a childhood connection to the game I just love the characters and pacing of the game.
I like IV too, isn't it clear?
(My damn username and pfp is a reference to a certain summoner.)
I feel like the debate is typically between 4, 6, and 9 for best ff game. My first ff game was 7 but I loved 4.
For me, it is a childhood connection, but I feel like it really set off what the rest of series was gonna be like; a set of stories that each come with their likable casts and interesting plots. =Y
Unity Alpha ummm. no, 7 is ALWAYS in the equation also... always has been since release.
Same here, I'm playing 6 as an adult but I grew up with 4. A lot of the good things that were brought to the series that Jirard talks about started in 4.. not 6 :P
THANK YOU for clarifying the Tidus and Yuna laugh scene. I hate that people bash on it without having any idea of what it's about
I just finished ff7 the other day. Im playing 9 now
My two favorite I liked nine the best but seven was also amazing!!!
Wht about 8
@@lucaskopedr6923 It sucks.... Best not to waste his time ;-)
@@JohnSmith-ch9sm Its the best game in the series though
@@lankeysob I'm glad someone thinks so.... ;-) Seriously... that game... oof.. plot makes no sense and the game mechanics are broken.
Dude, I implore you to finish FFIX! The twists and turns the story take will be right up your alley, the sidequests are tons of fun, and the gameplay never feels like it gets stale. It's my all-time favorite RPG and I even danced with my wife to Melodies of Life at our wedding
You should honor your canal's name by finish ffix
Indeed he should. Getting passed the events in Treno will reward him with plenty of story. But Treno will be SO for our Bearded hero, that he might not want to leave, as there PLENTY of secrets both in and out of the City :)
Funny enough IX is the only one I've ever been determined enough to finish. It's so good.
The only thing that prevents this game from being the best RPG of all time for me is that it had that part where you were forced to play the card game even though it treats it like an option/extra before then. But besides that it’s perfect. Unforgettable characters, music, scenery, style, everything!
I'm pretty sure you don't have to win that tournament though. I think you can lose in the first round and then the plot progresses
No shade from me on FF6. My first FF was the original, and I STILL think that 6 deserves the top slot.
Yeah 6 and 4 are the best... but they're too ugly for people to like.
Jason Ortiz If anyone would admit that, they clearly play games for the wrong reasons. Or if nothing else, prioritize other elements of a game over the whole package.
It's a tie for me between 4, 6 and 10. All great games and I can't decide which I like more.
FFVI is perfect. Story, music, character development, villain, opera scene :), it's an amazing journey
When you finish IX, you may change your top 3 a bit :)
i agree
Yeah 9 is great but 8 is sheeeiite
Yes i agree aswell.
But...its also the first one i played so that explains why its my favorite. :3 I just wanna play that game again cuz its so good! My favorite charaters were Vivi and Amarant (amarant cuz he's cool... dunno why) but Steiner was a super fun character.
I havent finised ffVIII yet...(at the second disc x3)
vivi is my favourite from IX. but what's cool about amarant? he's awful in battle and I found him annoying. He's as bad as cait sith.
Erik Dresner
Yep, that's actually the origin of Limit Breaks.
VII was the Trope Codifier, in a sense, even though it also named them.
Here's my list of favorite Final Fantasy games:
1. IV
... I'll get around to playing more eventually, I swear!
The Satellite Shame Shame Shame!
IV is great 😊
Imo you played the best first
VIII was my first game, but it's not my favorite (but in the Top 10).
Also FFIV contains 3 characters who win in each one categorie in my lists:
Favorite Final Fantasy Main Character of all time (Cecil),
Favorite Female Final Fantasy Character of all time (Rosa) and
Favorite Animated Character of all time (Golbez).
Lol
X is my personal favorite, I have a tattoo of the Brotherhood sword with the Zanarkand Abe's necklace on the hilt!
I've never played a game like it ever again. Everything has been disappointing in my life since I first played it in ~2004 or 5. KH2 was nice though
There will never be a better game than X. VII gets alot of love and its well deserved but X is a masterpiece through and through
X is just such a grinddddd
I loath that ball mini game though
Since this isn't a negative comment, and just 1 of almost 2000 comments, I won't be surprised if you never see this, but Final Fantasy 9 is in my opinion the best of the games, you owe it to yourself to play that to completion, it shouldn't be on the list unfinished.
While it's not my favorite, I agree that it DESERVES to be played. FF9 is just great, and an amazing gift for longtime fans of the series.
I feel like V doesn't get enough love.
I totally agree, dude. FFV had an awesome class system and had a sense of humor that was unique to the series. I think it's super underrated.
Roland Zimmerman
Easily the best gameplay in the series.
5 is amazing. Playing it through now atm
I do its sheeeiite
V is my second favourite in the series behind 7
final fantasy IX will always be my favorite of all time.
i love the entire cast, not only the main character, but the supporting cast too. the Tantalus crew is one of the best things in any final fantasy game. the black mages story is just heart breaking.
this is my perfect game, the game i come back and play whenever i just want to feel good for a few days.
if anyone deserves to be a Disney Princess, is Dagger.
Royal jester you said you play it to feel good but FF 9 isn't a very feel good game you know that
Gabe playz Video games well it feels good to play the story again.
it's not the happiest story but the character remain upbeat and funny all the way through :)
I am right there with you. I have probably played this game more than any other both times played and total time played.
That's fine I am not critising
Christopher D Drew yeah same here.
the only game i may have more hours than ff9 is chrono trigger , another game i complete periodically.
FF8 would easily get into my Top 3, but I guess that's because I'm weird and loved the junction system ;)
It also sucked because of all the switching around it did. first I playing this group for 20+ minutes, then this group, then a different group, back to this other group...mot other games in the franchise at the very least keep you with the MC 90% of the time (rarely straying, and if so it doesn't stray for long)
I hear complaints about the linearity, but thats not necessarily a problem for me.
Thats just one example, i only played the game once and that was on release
And lastly, the combat roles. I like my freedom, tyvm
But thats the negatives.
I apologize for the rant, but god damn something about that game just urges me to talk about it lol
You wrote a whole thesis fam. Lol
FFXIII was the best
*Throws Serah at Hope* Now where's Snow, so those two can argue?
Thanks for not pooping on 13. Everyone in my circle adored it, I was shocked to find out it was so unpopular on the net after finishing it (was trying to avoid spoilers while I competed it). You also had all of my favorites being 10 and 7 were in there too! Extra points for mentioning 14~
1.FFVI
2.FFX
3.FF Tactics (so good it ignores the no side game rule)
Ff tactics is so often overlooked. I can't help but view people who have never played it as FF casuals.
FFVIII will always be my favorite. It was my first...i completed. You never forget your first!
FF8 is criminally underrated
Its fucking awful the junction system ruins it. Ahhhh don’t miss those days players were expected to enjoy the game mechanic of being psychic to beat a game
Ryan Mahaffey compared to 6 no but yeah I think the game gets shitted on for no reason
@@kratos.8151I loved the junction system. To each his own I guess!
Playa is right. Also, they were extremely unreliable unlike a limit break that works every time.
Riot blade...
They're completely useless though. One might argue that an implementation this thoroughly failed doesn't really count. I mean, even Trance in FF9 has more uses.
To be fair he put it in #1 so :D
My favourite is FF9, but hearing where you stopped you REALLY need to keep going. One of my favourite scenes and probably one of the most powerful in gaming is at the end of disc 3. It's exactly what someone needs if they're experiencing a rough time. Please keep going with it, even if the ending is a little strange.
AHylianWarrior
He really does. I recently got it on my ps4 and been putting so much time into it, grinding to master skills so my party gets even better, vivi with all the magics, freya and her godly dragoon skills, dagger with summons and so forth. I missed this game so so much and love it to pieces. 💙
We really need a sequel to Final Fantasy IX, so many unanswered questions.
V & IX are the best imo.
Probably because he played III first. They are kinda similar in a lot of ways. From the sounds of it, he likes them all.
I'm not sure why not FFI. That game is iconic in many ways, and if it wasn't for that game alone, we might have never had Final Fantasy.
If someone gets pissed off at someones opinions of such a long series with so much variety, it's nobodies problem but their own.
What variety though? He excluded MMOs and Spinoffs, so it's a top 10 out of 13 games
Shin_Sello 13 is still a pretty high number, and the games do have enough variety even if you exclude the spin-offs and MMOs.
how is 13 a high number, if you're doing a top 10?
As soon as I heard Terra's theme in the background I got so hyped. The music in VI is nothing short of incredible.
Yes I got hyped too!
It's so nice to hear theres another FF13 fan out there! One of my faves in the series. I'm gonna go check out your defending vid now. Game needs more love!
I enjoyed FF13 as well. Gotta say that 10, 13, and 15 are my top three finale fantasy's. Not necessarily in that order tho.
I wish we could play XIII on the ps4 🙂
i also love 13, however f*** some of those side quests, like giant cautuar and the fuckerss the require either insta death spam or overleveled. i never got around to finishing it but i will soon reply it as well as its sequels. (the music is so good especially 13-2's last hunter)
Thank you
RIght? I loved the game up to the point my little brother deleted my file 30 hours in. Still have yet to finished but I still loved every second of it.
My favorite one is final fantasy VI.
Above Chrono Trigger?
+raphi And how about that Xenogears, am I right?
raphi I played both FF VI & Chrono Trigger. Thought Chrono Trigger was way more mind blowing
raphi I haven't played chrono tigger yet. I'm going to do this after I finish earthbound
FFV needs a bit more love, It's a more straightforward story, but the gameplay is definitely where it shines
gilgamesh is also the best character in the series
yeah; it definitely has one of my favourite iterations of the job-system. i also feel like there's some potential to go more in-depth with the story if they did a proper remake.
Sabin is RE5 Chris Redfield before it was cool.
Leon
Hell yeah! Love him and those awesome moves!
Jordan3D
I beat him by doing gil toss combined with my mimes doing tons of Flare and Holy Spells, the chicken knife was also helpful.
6 was the first one I ever played, and is definitely my favorite in the series.
Thanks Kefka
I loved FF8, but I agree it's weird and has lots of flaws.
TheDarkM me too, the thing I hate the most is the comparisons to VII and VIII, it's like people are saying it's a fact that VII is better and VIII is just shit.
I love FF8, really connected with Squall at the time with where I was in life. That being so low and 15 being above 4 are the only real differences I have with this list.
i liked 8 and don't understand the hate for it
I like it a lot too, but I understand the hate.
Not... Featuring... Projared...........................................
Uh, The Completionist?
I think Jared's list is vastly shuffled compared to this one.
Literally everyone. But if you need names (at the time) Spoony.
No one likes that peice of shit except for contrarians, and people who don't ACTUALLY want to play a game, they want to watch a movie filled with shitty characters and plot.
FFXIII is Spirits Within: The Game.
Nothing to do with FF
Terrible characters
Nonsensical writing that breaks it's own rules.
The fact that you haven't done 9 all the way through makes me quake
Ready for this... ff7 is my game I never make it through
@@Sevo- prepare to commit not alive
@@arcstar8337 is it self sleep forever kinda deal, or is it a you inhibit self sleep forever?
Best one!
@@Sevo- yes
Go finish IX.
1. FFVII
2. FFX
3. FFVIII
4. FFIX
5. FFVI
6. FFIV
So many classic themes in FF8! I love how people either hate X or it's basically their favorite. What a silly phenomenon.
You're right when you said your first Final Fantasy will be your favorite, and that applies to me as well. Final Fantasy 4 was my first, and I consider it my favorite.
I just finished 9, like, 2 hours ago. Its also the first Final Fantasy game I played all the way.
Im tots excited to sit down to play 6
Do it man. FF6 is a master piece and my fave.
BubbyBoy 9 is hands down the best one imo
I am legitimately shocked Final Fantasy 7 wasn't #1.
Also, Jirard, you need to get in contact with Team Four Star and get a role in FF7 Machinabridged.
YAS!
I think he even stated in his FFVII series that 6 was his all time favorite. Also mentioned it quite a few times on his streams and Super Beard Bros.
So glad to see FFVIII here. My first RPG, JRPG, and Final Fantasy, despite its clear flaws, will always hold an extremely special place in my heart. I'd love to play a better-translated version (or the original Japanese if I can learn the language).
Most definitely agree with you...FF3/6 is tthe best RPG of all time, maybe only rivaled by Chrono Trigger
actually that honor goes to kotor 2/fallout new vegas/fallout 2/baldur's gate 2/planescape torment muhahhahahahahha
I like 7 better than 6. I LOVE 6, don't get me wrong.
And Chrono Trigger? 😍😍😍
@@lawsonashurst7314 he obviously meant jrpg
Final Fantasy 4 for DS was my first FF. Good times.
I'm so sorry.
why are you sorry? that game was soooo amazing, i wish they did the same with VI, would have been outstanding.
Yay or nay?
Final Fantasy 6 on the Project Octopath Traveler engine with its artsyle.
Just a VI remake in general that's not one of the ISO games
I wouldn't say a full remake since I dunno it just feels like it would be needlessly melodramatic with full 3d models.
It's the kinda game that should be paired with high detailed models smaller not particularly sprites though.
Nay, FF6 has some of the most beautiful graphics of all time, so idk that I'd want to mess with it.
If you, who are reading this haven't play this game it's an experience you have to live at least once in your life
Worth $50 on Xbox, I remember liking it a lot on ps2 back when I was very young and I’m thinking about replaying it?
dakota webb I cannot recommend this highly enough.
Playing through FF15 for the first time and I actually love it, deciding which game to play next! Thank you for your video
Go 12
XII and XV are the best
Beautifully constructed list with heartfelt explanation, a true FF fan. My #1 FF game also happens to be the first one I played growing up. Keep up the amazing content!
Which one is it?
Another list, no Final Fantasy V :(
Eric Jones ff5 is has the best job class system, those who do not agree must be shunned
Yeah, the success of FFVI and every game afterwards owes a lot to FFV and everything it got right.
I love V. The job system is too deep for a single play through.
Eric Jones V seemed like such a letdown after 4 to me, but then again, I’m not a fan of the job class system. I much prefer larger casts and the job class system tends to limit it at around 4 playable characters.
Yeah, unfortunately its because it wasn't localized in the us, I wonder how it fares in Japanese top 10s
I was like "wait, FFVI didn't come in this list yet" by the second game of the list. But when I heard Terra's theme " Yeah, this guy have good taste".
I hate VIII but agree that its soundtrack is the BEST
No, I remember just how striking VIII was aesthetically (from the opening cinematic!), on release, compared to VII
Final fantasy 6 wasn't my favourite by a long shot but you were right. Your first final fantasy becomes your favourite. Mine is Crisis Core to this day.
XV is probably one of my favorites because it was my first, I didn’t like FFVI either. Just didn’t like the characters.
My favorite is honestly FFIV because it was my first and then my 2nd was FFV because of its job system and being my second played and my third favorite is FFVI because of how The Completionist explained already i know i will get hate but idc.
I'm here to give you some hate. OK here you go. Thanks bye.

The ones on the same lines are not ties for the same place they are there because I largely consider them complementary to the larger storyline of that games unique universe's mythology and lore.
I sitill love FF V for its post game content :O I mean.. holy.. 5! 5! Secret Superbosses, A secret Boss rush, an entire secret Dungeon based on the Void and a Character that is mentioned in some Books in the Game.
MrButternuss 5 is so underrated. It doesn't get enough love. It's in my top 5 in the series.
I would agree. I adore Final Fantasy 5. It's a wonderful game. The stuff that the competitionist liked about FF3 was sharpened and enhanced in 5.
Plus Battle on the Big Bridge and Gilgamesh.
Final Fantasy 7 was the 1st Final Fantasy I played.
Same
Where's my FFVI remake? I'M STILL WAITING! :'(
They said if the VII remake does well they'll consider the other titles.
They hurted my feelings by making remakes and stopped by FFIV. :(
It would be amazing to have a total remaster of FFVI if that happens, though!
Someone suggested they do it with the Octopath Traveller engine. Yes please
Remakes never capture the magic of the original. Just enjoy the memories bro.
I guess that people forget that it has been remade just for mobile phones though. Much in the same way 5 has.
I'd say my list goes something like:
1- FF6
2 - FF12
3 - FF8
4 - FF10
5 - FF9
6 - FF7
7 - FF5
8 - FF4
9 - FF1
10 - FF13
Worth noting that I've never played 3, so I really can't say about it, though I know a lot of folks pan it. Also road trip bros is just not my jam.
FF6 is love. FF6 is life.
FF6 has always been my favorite RPG. Chrono Trigger is a close second.
Always has been the reverse order for me due to Chrono Trigger's gameplay and replayability with it's multiple endings. FF6 definitly has the better story and characters but for the rest those 2 games are pretty much a tie.
FF6 is the best. The moment Terra's theme started started playing, I knew I was with friends.
Ok, gonna throw in my TOP-5 for good measure:
1. FFVII
2. FF X
3. FFVI
4. FFIX
5. FF IV
Wow. Exactly the same for me :)
I'm so glad you are just as passionate about ff6 as I am. But..... You should have showen Sabin suplexing the train!
My favourite is ff 10, the game that finally made me cry, absolute masterpiece
I liked XIII even though it takes awhile to really get into. As a kid I always looked forward to the next final fantasy because there's always something different in each game.
I'd really like an FF6 remaster, similar to what they've done with FF7.
You mean the remake? That could take a while since most of 7 isn't even covered.
@@randomduck8679 and 6 is a long game
@@randomduck8679 and 6 is a long game
I believe a designer at Square Enix has actually said that if remaking VII is Super Hard mode, remaking VI is Impossible mode. It's just too big and intricate.
@@Massiveillusion14 Gotta agree. 6 was way too bloated and people wouldn’t really like it nowadays. It worked back then, it won’t work or resonate with today.
#1. Final Fantasy Tactics/FF7/ FF9 (3 way tie lol)
#2. FF10
#3. FF6
#4. FF8 (Best card game in video game history in this game imo)
#5. FF10-2
#6. FF12
#7. FF5
#8. FF13/FF13-2/FF15 (another 3 way tie)
#9 FF1
#10. FF2
Now, 2 things.
FFT is the best though, 100% agreed,
Ur list is better den dis muppets n dats sad!
Woah 10 better than 6? Well to each their own :)
12 is my favorite too, but for different reasons; I don't care much for the quest to restore a throne plot, I more love the setting, the world, and the atmosphere, I just love Ivalice
peregrine I love the atmosphere too, but to be honest i don't much care for the tactics games, they are just not my cup of tea.
Balthier is one of the best characters in the Final Fantasy universe and hes essentially just Han Solo
good Gameplay but shitty plot + characters
The politics in this game was so spot on. The hunts, dungeons, and battle system were supreme. The only bad thing about the game was Vaan.
FF6 is always best and also FF9 sometimes you can say... but anyway ... you can see great creativity in FF1 AND 2 SERIES.... i just love them always
And what about 7?
I'm glad that someone else loves XV! Too bad my favorite, VIII is so low.
My fav is ff9 my favorite. Thief class is the main character and all bosses had something to steal
Aaaayyyu it’s num 4 I’m ok with that
9 was my first final fantasy and will always be one of my favorites I like 6 a little bit better but they both annihilate 7 for me
My dude, I've been replaying the game and I only set Zidane to steal whenever I got to a boss fight. They always have good stuff. =Y
FFV is super fun but the story leaves a lot to be desired.
I'm afraid FFVI might give me a similar feeling.
ok so i know this is your own opinion but finish 9 then tell me 10 is better because 9 was and still is a masterpiece, 9 is one of those games if i had to play a million times id never tire of it
my personal list is
10: 10
9: 8
8: 3
7: 2
6: 1
5: 5
4: 4
3: 6
2: 7
1: 9
Woo, FF6 love. Agreed. Best game in this series.
Yes
My favorite is between the IX and X, but Xenogears still reigns supreme
So your favorite is 9.5?
Xeno sucks.
I suppose so...
I can agree that Xenogears is not a perfect game, from the battle system that is not one of the most strategic until the infamous second disc, but as a whole it is an experience I have rarely experienced in games
Chrono Trigger is way better lol
„Your first Final Fantasy game will be your favorite...“ totally agree
God jirard is so right about your first completed ff being your favorite. To this day, 13 has somehow, inexplicably, remained my favorite.
I'm totally with you on #1.
Personally, my favorite is FFVII and will always be
TL;DR: FF1 and 3 are good, 4 is good to great, 6 is excellent.
I take it you haven't played V?
And XVII and XV.
Danny Hargreaves Correct, I haven't played V, XI, XII, XIV, or XV. Since writing this post I've been playing Bravely Default (sometimes way too much) and it's now one of my favorite Final Fantasy games.
Nah, my first FF was 7 but my favorite is 8
Hope X is up there! It got me into all of final fantasy!
Cornball Attack
Mario RPG got me hooked because Squenix was involved. I fell in love with FF once I played FFX.
Up there WAY too high for a game that bad.
hahaha what're opinions?
Dapper Changeling I agree15 is up to high
I’m currently playing 6 and I gotta say if I wasn’t already passed that point your description of Terra would’ve seriously pissed me off! You spoiled a MAJOR plot point man!
Although to be fair, the game came out in 1994. So it's kind of like saying Darth Vader is... you know. :)
Also HOLY CRAP I just realized that 1994 was basically a quarter-century ago. Holy crap, we're all old. And this is the future. I'm going to go cry now.
RoanStone yes I know it’s old, but this is supposed to be a non-spoiler video, so it doesn’t matter if it’s new or old.
1) 6
2) 4
3) 8
4) 9
5) 7
would be my top 5,
i really think he should play 8 and take a long look at the characters and story
6 is just so popular.
Ikr
I m sad that 8 is this low on the list.
@@FUNBadTime I can see why its so low it is very devisive within the fandom.

4: Final Fantasy IX (PSX)
5: Final Fantasy IV (SNES)
6: Final Fantasy VIII (PSX)
7: Final Fantasy (NES)
I’ve never played II, III, V, XI, XII, XIII, XIV, or XV
spectrecutlass I would highly recommend playing 15.
I'm probably a bit late but whatever.
If you liked XV, I'd also recommend VII Remake and XII: The Zodiac Age.
I did a FF8 deep dive this year and it completely changed my opinion on it. Squall is much deeper than I remembered, and the ending is one of the best in the series. The part of them all being from the same orphanage was a bit unnecessary though. Give it another go.
