Deftones is the definition of balance between what I love about music like the singing and screaming songs that are calm and heavy, they're versatile and that's why I love them

Next up is White Pony. Their most commercially successful album. Which is just banger after banger. If you liked the chill feeling Be Quiet and Drive gave you, there’s much more of that as the band progresses and developed their sound.

when i heard deftones for the first time i immediately fell in love with chino’s voice. deftones is my all time favorite band and around the fur is definitely has to be one of my all time favorite albums. i just love the balance between heavier songs like headup (which i can confirm goes hard as fuck live, i saw them play it last summer) and mesmerizing songs like be quiet and drive. i had the exact same reaction as you when i heard be quiet and drive for the first time years ago, thats why i eventually decided to get the song title tattooed on my wrist

be quiet and drive is such a vibe, it was an instant favorite for me back in the day.
Bored by Deftones is one of my favorite songs, which is interesting because I didn't really know the song existed until Korn played a cover of it at their show in the nineties.
Definitely keep going! I think what you like about the band becomes a much more prominent aspect of their sound with time.

I remember seeing Chino interviewed on MuchMusic back in the day when this album came out and he said that in Be Quiet And Drive, he was attempting to imitate the style of female jazz singers from the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. I always thought that was such a unique source to draw inspiration from compared to some of the Deftones’ contemporaries.
I love when Deftones puts a smile on a person's face.

Deftones will quickly become your favorite band. If you liked Be Quiet, you'll love White Pony
Looking forward to your White Pony reaction. It is the album that really propelled them to greatness and the one where they really started evolving into what they are now.
This band is unique in that as their albums progress their sound really develops out of their original genre and through others. Less angst but their technicality and production take flight. Be Quiet and Drive is definitely a precursor to the direction they started moving in subsequent albums.
I remember going and getting this CD when it came out......holy chit I'm old.
If you love be quiet and drive off this album I definitely recommend checking out shoegaze at some point. Some of the best albums of the genre are just a perfect blend of dreamy and heavy and they’re so addicting to listen to. Loveless by my bloody valentine would be a great start!

Originally, I didn’t care for Lhabia, but that gritty- talking between closed teeth sound got me hooked eventually. It’s now one of my favorites by them. Also your description of be quiet and drive is sooo accurate. I heard that song for the first time and got hooked on deftones.

Saturday Night Wrist is maybe my favorite Deftones album. I also love their self titled “Deftones” album. I loved their early stuff when I was younger because of the angst and aggressive sound. As I’ve gotten older I love their more melodic albums. I go through phases and honestly love all of their projects. 💙💙
Ur right dude,.. i luv the whole design of that record,..especially that they went on with the blossom print on cd ,..but in smooth yellow,..adrenaline and around the fur got same image,..and it would be cool if deftones would had done this on every cd,..
But in saturday nite wrist,.i love the images indide the booklet,.the atmosphere,.u can feel a specific aura,..the colors,.the warmth,..
I had just turned 18 when I heard around the fur for the first time 25 years ago and it blew my mind, deftones have been with me ever since. Makes me happy to see young people today still have similar reactions.
Re: Headup. "The album's most aggressive track, "Headup," was co-written by Max Cavalera (Sepultura, Soulfly), who also shares lead vocals duties with Moreno on the song. It was written in tribute to Cavalera's stepson, Dana, who had been killed in a car accident and was a friend of Moreno's. According to Cavalera, emotions ran high in the studio when he and Moreno were tracking the vocals. "It was almost as if we had Dana in the studio sitting between the two of us," he recalled in an interview excerpted on songfacts. "We were raging so hard, and I remember looking up and seeing Chino had smashed his nose and there was blood all over his face."
Search for "deftones ft max cavalera" if you're so inclined. They've performed the song a few times over the years together, latest one is just from december and it was pretty epic.
My first Deftones album. Was listening to this when I was in the 6th grade in 1999. Use to fake sick so I could stay home from school and play Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 while listening to this album. Be Quiet and Drive Far Away is my favorite song by them.
You will definitely get more of that calm controlled feeling with chino's vocals on other projects. Also your description of be quiet and drive is exactly how I feel listening to it. Its why it's my favorite deftones song.

Been a $B fan for the longest time, about two years ago my buddy introduced me to tool and deftones, there was and is no going back. It’s such a beautifully haunting band, like 80% of their music is gold, and what I don’t love I definitely don’t hate. Worth every listen, and Around the Fur is a great place to start if you’re not gonna do White Pony first. After this id go white pony, Self Titled, And then Koi no Yokan and Saturday Night Wrist, after that you can just go crazy with whatever you’d wanna try next

I waited for the BE QUIET AND DRIVE reaction and I wasn't disappointed.
MX is 37mins because there's a hidden track at the end called "Damone" which is one of the best tracks imo on the whole album.

Grew up listening to the Deftones. I heard them and realized their bassist when to high school down the street from me and was all in. They have passed the test of time. RIP CHI CHENG ❤️

It's kind of funny seeing all the comments naming White Pony as the greatest Deftones album. Growing up in the 90s, I think most people saw White Pony as when the Deftones started to fall off. Not that it was a bad album, but just that they peaked with Around the Fur. Must appeal to different audiences.

Hey just so you're aware, the blue yeti is actually recording from the front where the mute button and logo are! You'll get much better audio of yourself if you orient it that way instead of pointing the top of it towards you! Otherwise great video and definitely keep digging into the nu metal genre for some great tracks!
