INFO: Deftones is a band with strong roots in the alternative metal scene. They started out as a nu-metal band that went from simply playing heavy riffs, screaming and rapping a bit, to creating a more nuanced sound mixing shoe gaze, electronic samples and pop inspired melodies into their metal music. Because of their willingness to experiment, they’ve sometimes been called the Raidohead of Metal. Let’s find out if they deserve that title.

I discovered Deftones way too late. They have this romantic style where you want to hear their music when you are driving at a hot summer night or just want to gaze at the stars. Brilliant.
Why do you think it was too late? Better late than ever. But i think it would be awesome to be in the crowd at a show just
when they started blowing up though. Fantastic description though.
Yes. It’s music for vastness.
Cyber romance for a desert at night
I always felt this way about Deftones. Something about “night drivin” as I call it with the windows rolled down blasting Deftones Around the Fur back in the day when I first got my driver’s license was a big deal for me.
THIS THIS THIS. i didn’t find them until i was about 25 and i think one summer i listened to passenger five times in one day
Not so, listen to (Like) Linus, Adrenaline and Around The Fur, their best albuns, White Pony forward its to much light, s3xual and silly.
Fun fact for the day: Madonna heard them and made sure they were signed.
Kris Frederick is that true??
@@MarioRamil Yessir, they're signed to her label. Or, were I have no idea now.
True.
Damn, respect
It’s true. She heard them and signed them to her Maverick record label. They may be the first band, not sure?
I remember the first time I heard Be Quiet And Drive. Literally fell in love as soon as the song finished. Still probably the most powerful feeling over a song I've ever felt.
Me too!!! It was the very first deftones song I'd ever heard. I remember it playing on the radio one summer afternoon and I remember thinking I never wanted that sensation to end. It was like an orgasm! haha I never knew music could move me like that.
That song put me in a trance the first time I heard it, it happens every time to this day that song is something special and I don’t know how else to put it
The acoustic version is breathtaking
Have you heard their slowed down more chill version of Be Quiet and Drive? It's so beautiful. Please take a listen :)
Automatically stare on blank space everytime I hear this song 🖤
Koi No Yokan is so underrated. Rosemary is one of my fav songs by Deftones
THATS MY FAV ALBUM!!
Agreed for sure. Every time I start Koi, I think "damn this is good shit"
yes this is straight up facts
Objectively their most cohesive and solid record. Every song a banger and legendary from start to finish. Rosemary is my fav song by them. With that said though Self Titled is my favorite record overall even if it's not thier absolute best production it just speaks to me the most. My opinion of course
My favorite is Goon squad
Radiohead of metal? Nah, they're the Deftones of music.
Lol that's one way of putting it.
They are one of a kind
let's find out if they actually deserve...say what? lol
FUUUCCKKK thank you for stating that. They are in their own class!
I was offended by that “let’s find out if hey deserve it” lol Deftones own a genre all their own. They don’t deserve, they simply just are.
Somewhere, Someone who has never heard Deftones music before is watching this. They are falling in love. Feels Good.
Yes that's the reason why i made this video in the first place. For the old fans that want a nostalgia trip,
for the people who need to listen more to them and fall in love again, and for those who are brand new
to them and will find one of their all time favorite bands.
Lie Likes Music you’re doing a special thing man keep it up
Me
I’m 50 years old and I remember the song “change” but I don’t remember any of their other stuff. After watching this I’m kind of confused why I didn’t listen to more. So I spent a few hours listening to all their stuff and it’s incredible. How did I not know more about them? Crazy! IM A HUGE FAN NOW!

Has anyone noticed how Deftones is "night" music?
It feels odd to listen to during the day.
And it feels so right to listen to during the night.
I used to listen to this when I sneaked into my girlfriend's room through the window without her parents noticing haha. This was 10 years ago. So I associate the music with getting some during my teenage summers xD
I get what you’re trying to say but I don’t agree, I can listen to it at any time of the day, Deftones to me is like Winter and Fall music it just has to be cloudy and cold lol if that makes sense
I like to listen to them during the day in the right mood, but I 100% understand what you mean by night music. It's like, the lack of light helps you hear the music more. There are some songs, in general not just theirs, that you can hear and feel the absence of sound just as much as the presence. In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins is a great example as well. Something completely unlike anything Deftones does but still has that quality. But it's something Deftones has mastered. You can hear it during parts of Adrenaline and some more in Around the Fur, and then it's pervasive, in a good way, from White Pony onward.
The only song of theirs that feels daytime is, ironically, My Own Summer. Which is about hating the daylight and hotness of summer....
fr !!
Deftones have never made a bad record
Gore was leaning towards being bad. It's mediocre imo
Ben B never
Lie Likes Music maybe compared to all the previous albums, but bad? No way. It felt like a solid rock album imo
Koi no yokan was not great man. Not terrible either, but not great.
Abbazabba 81 It is a great album by most fans & music critic standards. If it didn’t meet your standards, that’s all you
Koi No Yokan was stunning. Still play that album when driving at night
Play it while driving through Las Vegas at night. That must be the perfect scenery
Would love to see goon squad live
That kind of comment wants me to plan a roadtrip with other Deftones fans
koi No Yokan is awesome.
@@LieLikesMusic i live here in vegas and i just started getting into deftones, i will do this soon 😊
The only band where I can have all of their albums on shuffle and love and feel to every single song and never get tired of it
Right?
I have them all on an old iPhone in the car.
i agree so much and i dont really hear the differences between albums anymore ive memorized every song so i cant tell if a one of them is easy or experimental or whatever
Keep on constantly playing on Spotify on my hour drives to work. Never get tired of it. In fact if It would be likely fuck my day up if I didn't listen to at least one song lol.
Agree. I relate many songs/diff bands to day or night or certain weather or energy in the air.
I'm not a big fan of their early chaotic stuff, but anything since Diamond eyes is in my top list (plus White Pony and part of Around the fur)
I'm 16 as I'm writing this; I was born in 2004; I only recently discovered deftones but I've been listening to them CONSTANTLY. Something about their music just carries me away in a way no other band has. I know I'm not an old fan or anything but I intend to carry their music with me through the whole rest of my life.
Ey that's awesome! I felt the same way when i started listening to them back in 2012. And i still feel that same way whenever i listen these days. They're one of the more magical bands i've found. What's your favorite album so far?

Good. Love you back :)
Likewise.

I understand that mindset completely... I love you too... RIP CHI CHENG
I love you toooooo
Deftones is easily has the most consistently good material compared to thier contemporaries
What contemporaries do you think of?
Lie Likes Music Literally every other “nu Metal” era band lol
While I still like Korn I mostly agree. Though I didn't really consider Deftones Nu Metal. They were always experimental to me. From one song to another it was something different while still being completely Deftones. So I couldn't label then Nu Metal.
Also the fact most "Nu Metal" bands sounded so similar back then, made me think of Deftones as something different.
The contemporaries are the plethora of Nu-Metal bands from the time. Korn perhaps the notable exception. Limp Bizkit, Static X, P.O.D, Disturbed, Papa Roach, Il Nino, Drowning Pool amongst others. The breadth of their work never had real evolution in sound, as their got stuck in their early success formulas. The Deftones were always different in that regard, in their willingness to just go in a different direction.
Agreed, they transcended their nu metal origins and truly came out with a voice of their own, it's rare for bands to have such longevity and relevance.
Deftones is one of those rare things that when I see someone who also likes it, it makes me give them that little head nod as in "hell yeah i'm with you".
feel this way bout alice in chains
I m with you
Deftones proved that they were much more than a nu metal band. They evolve into something greater down the line.

Bru Master, so sad RIP Chi

My auntie is a huge deftones fan so growing up I was always with her and she was always playing deftones. As I got older I realize that deftones can be used for any mood. Like sexy time, angy time, sad times, happy times, etc. They go hard and still do with their new albums. They legit have no bad songs. Maybe one you like but not enough to listen to all the time but it still bops.
Theyve been my favorite band for over 25 yrs. As a "nu metal" band they clearly have proven to be the most talented and beautiful who can keep putting new stuff out and isnt hammered to death by radio (like regular radio lol) and then laid to rest like just abt every other band in that genre. RIP CHI CHENG
Ha ha yeah exactly! They go absolutely perfectly with every mood for sure. I grew up with these guys. Where most bands slowly fall off and cant no longer pull the listener in, deftones is just that band that never gets old, never makes you like "ugh again?!"

One of my goals of being an aunt is to show my nieces and nephews Deftones music ♥️
Around the Fur is an album that EVERYONE should listen to before they die.
I love how some of their songs can sound so unsettling and so peaceful at the same time. Cherry Waves is a perfect example of a song that feels peaceful and haunting at the same time. It’s beautiful honestly, and only Trent Reznor and Deftones can make a song with that sort of feeling, but with a different kind of sound. Love the Deftones (and NIN), hope to see them at ACL this year with Metallica.
That's a good comparison. They both have that ability to strike beauty and discomfort at the same time.
And i haven't hard many other bands that can do that in te same way. NIN are releasing a new album soon right?
Lie Likes Music yeah they’re supposed to release an ep in a little bit, heard the new track and it sound pretty good.
Guess what? We're friends now!
You're right. I love Cherry Waves. Immaculate.
Deftones is unique.

Deftones ❤️
Deftones stirs emotions within me I didn’t know existed, which is why they’ve been my favorite band ever since I discovered them in high school. They’re absolutely mesmerizing live. My fiancé and I plan to dance to their cover of ‘Drive’ at our wedding. Couldn’t get married without them being involved somehow. 🖤
That’s so awesome! Congrats on the wedding. I fell in love with them for the same reason. I discovered the band late in 2011 when I was 17. Their vibe is unique I’ve never heard or experienced anything like them before I fell in love instantly. So dreamy, sexual, deff bought out all type of emotions In me
Sick ass wedding
Totally agreed, Deftones are their own genre. Wall-to-wall audio beauty.
Awesome! Go you!
Oh my god!! Me and wife danced to that cover at our wedding too. I remember showing my wife and friends that song and they were absolutely blown away by how good it is. I’m glad someone else just gets it :) (I know this comment is 2 years old now but I had to give my take!)
Chino's voice makes me cry. This band is otherworldly. My cousin Daniel introduced me, even though I wasn't into them at the time, back in early 2000s. I will forever equate Deftones and Daniel, who passed in June 2021. He was a vet and he'd had a hard life, but he was like a brother to me. I can't hear Xerces without thinking of him. I love you brother. We'll meet again. 🖤
I still remember hearing deftones for the first time. It was late 90s, I was in 9th or 10th grade, my buddy had just bought the Around the Fur CD and from there I was hooked. That was the first CD we burned a copy of, lol. Then when the White Pony album came out, we skipped school to go get it.
When I think of Deftones, I think of the good ol days.
Same here. I mean the first time you hear them is usually the best time.
Or maybe i just envision it to be so much better in the past like so many
other people do.
I was the same age. I really miss those days. It was a different world then. Smart phones and social media are a societal cancer
Me too, korn and deftnes was favourite, later i have found early Nirvana, if you ask me Nirvana is best since than, most original and deftnes is maybe only band who can step in arena with Nirvana with their sound, very similar sound, copycats
World was same, people also...They have change not a thing
I was in 8th grade and borrowed a bunch of cds from my buddy for a long plane flight. Put in adrenaline and listened to it and around the fur constantly the whole trip. I skipped school when White Pony came out too haha, that was the first time I ever smoked out a car... ahh the good ol days
Deftones just reminds me of something, like riding around at 1 am on a hot, stale and muggy night
It's the middle of summer and maybe you just got introduced to a really cute girl and she wants to meet, so you drive out to meet her...the windows are down..the air could almost choke you it's so thick but you bare it as the street lights illuminate the roads in front of you while "976-Evil" blasts through your speakers and you drive on through the night.
That's a great mental picture dude. Thanks for painting it! Totally fits with this music too.
What's your favorite Deftones album btw? Mine is Diamond Eyes.

Hearing Maynard in Passenger was excellent
The worst part is Chino trying to sing his part. Dude should take care of his voice because he screams so much I'm afraid he'll lose his voice :(
Hopefully he learned some valuable tricks from doing his vocal training back in the day.
+Lie Likes Music Yeah! Deftones actually played in my country three days and I couldn't go but a lot of people recorded the show and he sounds way better imo. Didn't play a single song from Gore though which makes sense since he screams SO much on that record.
That was No Joke! What a Great Collaboration!!
best song on White Pony imo
They've known how to evolve without losing their own essence. Thats why I love theirs music.
Great video!
For sure. Consistency has always been a sentral building block in this band
being a 90s kid deftones shaped a lot of my childhood, their music was a safe space for me, being a middle-class kid in India I was lucky to have found deftones on limewire and then deciding to buy white pony in a CD store (the only one in Mumbai that had it). only a few of my close friends had similar music tastes to me, Deftones was something we would listen to on our walkmen after cricket, their music helped me confide, vent, express and a lot more. I am truly grateful for Deftones!

"Hexagram" is a good example of Chino's vocals on that album but "Bloody Cape" really shines as his ability to both sing and scream stronger than ever.
R.I.P. Chi Cheng. I seriously thought he was gonna make it. Made improvements. So sad. I cried when I read the news that day 😞
One of my absolute favorite bands of all time.
That's awesome. Is your music inspired by them to some extent?
Most definitely. I feel like I grew up with them. Adrenaline and Around the Fur had such an impact on me as a teenager, and when White Pony came out towards the end of high school. My Own Summer was one of the first songs I learned how to play on guitar. They got lumped into numetal thing, but I've always felt like they were in a league of their own. It's probably not super apparent in my pop music but they've always been a huge influence of mine.

Deftones have been my all time favorite band since I learned about them in the late 90's!!!
Diamond Eyes is a masterpiece
Deftones is my favorite band honestly- They have such a wide range of sort of softer songs to more hardcore songs and I love Chino’s voice!!
Agree with everything you said here. Other than them being my favorite. They're definitely in my top 10 though. What's your favorite album by them?
One of the most overlooked and insanely talented bands of today, thanks for covering them!
No worries. Yes i really hope they get more attention as time goes by.
They're not overlooked at all. They are critically acclaimed and have sold millions of records. They are highly regarded. You don't know what "overlooked" means.
Overlooked? No sir.
Dude every single metalhead/Hiphoppers ive met have heard of deftones.
Chi’s passing hit so hard at the time. I remember that he had just showed signs of responsiveness, after so long, and then he was just gone
I can imagine. I wasn't a fan of them at that time...
Lie Likes Music yea, it was like one week he was doing better and the next he was gone. Thank you for making this video.
I heard someone say this before but Deftones makes music to help express the feelings you can’t verbally communicate. Their riffs, screams, both soft and loud vocals help express how you feel at a certain time. They’re not just a one type of song band, they have a wide range and variety of sounds. These sounds help us imagine and create an image of these feelings we can’t picture on our own. Deftones music helps escape from whatever you’re feeling or helping find what’s wrong. Interpret the music as you will, but this is personally how I feel about this.
Precisely
exactly
people ask me why i listen to their music when everything else that i listen to is rap, but their songs just express how i feel so well
I always felt there was a warmth and smothness to their sound compared with most of nu-metal bands of the time. They were all aiming to combine mellow and aggressive musical elements in their tracks, but for me, Deftones' work is magnificent in that sense. Maybe it was due to their openness to different styles and ease of navigating nu-metal tropes.
I lost my concert virginity to this band, and it’s so nice to see them appreciates to where we talk about the dynamics of their music. Good job!!!
Thanks! Personally i've never seen them live. But i'm planning to do it sometime very soon. Glad you enjoyed this.
I’m doing that tonight!!
I took my nephew to his very 1st concert when he was 12 , back in 2010, it was deftones,he loved it
@@Jess1234 god hes 24 now thats crazy i just turned 15 today and only found out about deftones about a month or two ago
Lost my actual virginity to one of their songs
My favorite track of theirs is Minerva. It's heavy, but has that dreamy weightless floaty-ness to it. I feel like that trait covers most of their music. Even the heavy screamy stuff has this weightlessness about it.
True. It seems like they hit the perfect balance between heavy and light atmospheres in their music.
They focus more on this in their later discography though. Adrenaline was more or less "pedal to the metal".
I’ve known about Deftones for so long but only just recently actually listened to their music… when I say I INSTANTLY fell in love, I feel like it’s an understatement. They’ve been playing constantly since.
Their music is so diverse in how and when it can be listened, you could be at the peak of your life and their music will resonate just as much as being in the pits of despair. Listening to them is to an artist interpreting a painting in multiple ways
Weird how the critics didn't think their self-titled album took risks. I love it because of the risks it took. Instead of doubling down on the soft stuff which made them platinum selling artists, they decided to get more rough and add even more trip-hop/electronic elements. It was almost as if they were rebelling against what they were supposed to do.
You're talking about their debut in this whole paragraph? Because the trip-hop and electronic stuff
was really showing more on White Pony.
Lie Likes Music I think he's saying the self titled album that followed White Pony took risks by not following up with the same formula/direction as white pony. That they would have been expected to put out another album like white pony since it brought them to their highest point commercially at that time but instead they kinda devolved back into a harder/less commercial friendly sound.
Not sure if i agree with that but thats what i got from that comment.
I love self titled so much

it makes a lot of sense for Koi Ko Yokan to be their most well balanced record in terms of sound. Rosemary transitions from melancholy and soft despair straight into freight train demon action especially well, I love it so much

Deftones is seriously one of those bands that are purely unique and a band that seriously cannot make a bad album. Every album just sounds thought out to a degree and you can tell nothing was just thrown together to make it sound like a song. It just makes sense.
This video was made before Ohms, a great album that feels familiar to their roots in some aspects but was completely new in other aspects, just a wonderful album. It's crazy how the band felt and sounded just as good as they did when they started out. Gold from 1995 to 2020. Every. Single. Album.

Despite my absolute love for White Pony, I think Koi No Yokan is the best thing they ever did. Its like they took everything that was great in their previous works and blend it into perfect "Deftones" sound. Agressive, groovy, dreamy and beautiful combo of metal and shoegaze with something special here and there. Good video, subbed.
This comment absolutely nails it. No album like it before or after. For myself, I remember the album coming and thinking I'm so excited about this, but this is not the time in my life for this album... and waiting till the following summer to really embrace this album, go for long runs and drives and boat rides. This album changed my life for the better, and as musicians and humans, that the greatest compliment one could give. Rip Chi, deftones for life.
Koi No Yokan is my favorite album from them. I don't know what they tried to do with it, but each song for some reason reminds me of a different 70's or 80's song. For example, Graphic Nature, the very first time I heard it, Maneater by Hall & Oates popped into my head. With Rosemary it was The Chauffeur by Duran Duran. Entombed reminded me of some Rush songs and would be at home among all the power ballads throughout the 80's.
Koi no Yokan and Saturday night wrist are underrated albums

It takes a while to get used to, that's for sure, but it grows on you. I think the vocals are too low, which I find odd. Phantom Bride is a fantastic track.
SNW was meh at first, but now its equal to their best. Gore will mature in time, like all deftones albums do.
Change (In the house of Flies) is probably one of the coolest alternative metal song of the decade.. it simple gives me bliss in everyway listening to it all the time 18 years down..
Discovered them summer of 2020 and instantly fell in love. First song I heard was Be Quiet and Drive. There is this feeling Deftones radiates unlike any other band, makes you drive in the sunset or just go stargazing on a hot summer night. Somehow their music combines chaos and pain with soothing and calming vibes. Been listening to them ever since and personally believe they have never made a poor record.
Digital Bath is my all time favorite. It's one of those songs that makes me stop doing what I'm doing and stay still, close my eyes and just listen and admire it again and again untill the day of my death
Easily one of the most unique and consistently interesting rock/metal bands of the 90's and 00's. Still putting out killer albums too. You should do Primus or Les Claypool too!
Yes i would love to make videos about Primus and Les. Thanks for pushing me in that direction.
Gwynplaine de Pétroleuse cool mutualist pic
90s 00s and the 10s have never made a bad album and maybe 1 or 2 bad songs out of 8 albums
The similarity that they hold with Radiohead is in how absolutely interesting they've kept everything so far without skipping much of a beat since the beginning.
Edit: I was also thinking of another similarity: The dream-like aesthetic to their sound.
Wow actually one person that doesn't hate on that similarity :O
@@LieLikesMusic absolutely not! And I understood that analogy this way. Thumbs up and great content 👍🏼
@@ricardojmestre Thanks man! It means a lot to me
@@LieLikesMusic You are most welcome! :)
Really great journalism!🙏🥰 This is gold. Thank you!
Deftones it's my fav band since I had 13 and still until this day , I always listen to their songs and it's nostalgia plus the fact that I feel this it's the best music in the world makes me feel so good.
I fell in love with White Pony at the age of 14. Damn, almost 20 years ago. Never got to see them live, but I just picked up tickets for their tour this summer and I'm super pumped! Every album they put out is gold, and they will forever be on the same pedestal as TOOL for me. In fact, if it wasnt for Passenger I'm not sure when I would have been introduced to Maynard.
👍 TOOL is my top 5 bands ever. I love Passenger.
If I could only listen to Deftones, Tool, Korn, and Linkin Park for the rest of my life I wouldn't even be mad
@Ol' Herb as much as I love those bands I need to listen to other kinds of genres time to time or they wont have the same kind of effect
Asking if Deftones deserve to be compared to Radiohead is a slap in the face to Deftones. Deftones is one of the most well respected bands of our generation.
Well it's a good thing that i didn't compare them then i guess.
But as Radiohead is a highly influential band that a ton of people
respect, i don't think it's a bad comparison.
Dont hate on radiohead though. Deftones are my favorite band but the comparison is far from an insult. Radiohead is widley known as one of the most experimental bands of all time and they are quite good at what they do.
The Deftones basically influenced every post hard core band that came out in the late 2000s they are bigger than people give them credit for
DropNinety not better than radiohead.
it's rather an analogy, than comparison. you get triggered because you see names of two bands, though it's not better/worse, just different, don't understand the frenzy.
You make some of the best content I've seen on here man. Keep it up.
Deftones has got to be in my top 3 favorite bands. Hearing all of this new (to me) information about their albums and what was going on is so cool! I already knew about Chi dying, that still hits hard though…such a young guy, with so much left to offer.
Greatest band of all time. Their lyrics and sounds are completely original and sound like no other band on Earth. Love these guys!
You're totally right about the lyrics. And also Chino's voice is unlike anyone else i've heard. Thanks for watching.
That's a stretch man. I love them deeply but best band ever? I guess music is subjective
My favorite band!
Make a Faith No More video!
MIKE PATTON VIDEO PLS
Mr Bungle ;)
Listen to Nirvana early recordings...Hardest and first who popularized hc also best band since Sex Pistols
thx for the explanation and the summary !
now i can appreciate their music even more
Deftones has always had a huge influence on my guitar playing. The experiment with chords for an "off" sound or rhythm. Love it!
Understanding The Dillinger Escape Plan!
YASSS!
I look forward to the vid! :D
PLEASE! dep! dep! dep!
Saw Deftones and Dillinger Escape Plan in Charlotte NC in 2012ish at the amphitheatre behind The Filmore.. Great venue and one of the BEST SHOWS EVER! Chino and Dimitri started singing Passenger then it started raining and then a tornado warning came out so everyone ran off stage and security made the crowd pile into the Fillmore. CHINO*PASSENGER*RAIN FALLING#NO WORDS CAN DESCRIBE THE EXPERIENCE!!
Lie Likes Music 🤣
Hell yeah, Deftones is one of the only bands out there that never gets old (no matter how many fucking times you listen to their songs).
For sure! There's just a feeling that always lingers on with their music.
Deftones never cease to give me chills. There's almost an ASMR quality to Chino on some tracks 😆 often contrasted with wild wailing. Love it!
Amazing video, thanks so much Man!
Missed to mention "Lovers" is a b-side on the single Hexagram. Amazing song which I wish would have made the album.
Thanks for adding that.
The Channel Deftones Triad had made a video for “Lovers.”
Lovers
The Boys Republic
To Have and to Hold
Sweetest Perfection
Nightboat
Teething
Can’t Even Breathe
Damone
Ghosts
Sleep Walk
Deftones just needs to release another covers, soundtracks and rarities album and re-record the album Like Linus.
215dagby Like Linus has some great songs tbh
@@215dagby B Sides vol. 2 right? I had come across that playlist years ago trying to find "can't even breath"
Before watching this, I have to say, Deftones is one of the few artists that I genuinely love all their albums. Not to be hipster fanboy or contrary douche, or to make myself out to be a "real" fan. It's just the honest truth.
Every album has tracks that end up on my all time favorites Deftones tracks. I certainly have my preferences of their albums and songs, but each one has a special place for me. Some took time to grow, and ripened with age in my head. Koi Yo Nokan wasnt one of my favorites, but now it's pretty much a top 3 for me. Again not to be the contrarian douche, but White Pony is probably my least listened too album from them. And its one of the most amazing albums ever made.
Deftones new music often takes time to settle in, and as I listen to it, certain elements become visible, and then my mind will open up, and I'm left amazed at how the song had to creep into my psyche. Rather than immediately hearing a song and be "omg amazing" of "bleah boring". Most of Deftones music took time and grew as I listened.
I mean when I first heard them back in the mid nineties, I honestly wasn't very into them. But one day, I saw the My Own Summer video, and it clicked. I got both albums they had up to that point, and their music continued to grow. Every album started like that.
Maybe 2 or 3 tracks would be my immediate favorite on the first listening, but as the years would go on, every other track began to take shape at different times, for different reasons, and became a fucking masterpiece for me.
So now each album and Id say about 95% of their songs can easily be put in my favorite track list.
No worries man. You do come off as a true fan. Otherwise you wouldn't spend so much time writing this.
Deftones is one of my favorite bands as well. But honestly there are albums they've made that i just don't
appreciate that much. There's always songs from all their albums that click with me, but there's some albums
that i can always listen to all the way through and others i can't. My top 3 list for them would be #1 Diamond Eyes
#2 Koi No Yokan #3 Around The Fur. Thanks for watching dude! It means a lot.
this was such a well composed video. enjoyed it a lot
Really great video man! My #1 favorite band an they are hard to wrap up into a description... Let alone..they don't wanna be explained. It's all 💚 for your expressions of making, living, exploring art! Amazing band for show! 🤘🖖🤘
Deftones will go down as one of the GREATEST bands ever!! I absolutely love them, and want to see them live some day soon.
I haven't seen them live myself. So it's a must! You never know when bands like these take breaks.
I like gore bc I can go to the beach and listen loudly with out putting a bad vibe around other beach goers ......its a rock metal sound splashed with sun and miami beach vibes that allows me to rock but not bum out the beach scene
Hands down my favorite band and in my opinion the most enchanting and intricate bands to ever exist. Great video! 👏 👏 👏
Diamond eyes was the first Deftones song i heard. *Really* love it. I looked up their older stuff and was so shocked to hear how different it is 😂. So far, Diamond Eyes and Tempest are my 2 favorite songs from them.
Pins and Needles? Lucky You? Good Morning Beautiful? Rocket Skates? Passenger? My Own Summer?
C'mon now.
@@godlesspeacesign8852 Oh no, someone with a different opinion from me. Whatever shall i do???
@@grand_howler nothing. Just know that there are better songs, as much as i love diamond eyes.
@@godlesspeacesign8852 Thanks for the recommendations. However, there are better ways to offer them without sounding like a snob.
@@grand_howler ok, sensitive. cant take a light teasing, i'll hold your hand next time.
Deftones B-Sides
is a great album
⭐
I hear a lot of people saying that. I gotta check it out.
Never got into these guys but now I definitely will binge thanks to you.
Just need to make this absolutely clear, Deftones are a headphones group, meaning you don't get the whole feel unless you're using headphones... there's so many elements to it, a shitty car stereo or something similar couldn't give you the full dose... it's like taking a haul off a doob with a big hole in it.
Or just a hi end stereo xD
What kind of music do you normally like? They have such a wide range that you maybe didnt hear the songs that are more in line with your musical taste.
+mindpurge Exactly. There are just so many background details and unique textures on their songs that a lot of the time goes unnoticed if not listened to with a pair of quality headphones.
hey friend, I just want to say I've been watching your videos for a few years now and it's been amazing. You got great taste in music!
I started really listening to this band a few months ago and it seems like something I really needed. I don't usually particularly enjoy Nu Metal, but this band definitely showed me a different aspect of it. Their music is something truly unique and it combines so many elements that I enjoy. Definitely one of my favorite bands.
