  • In this video Robb, professional photographer, (not a videographer) unboxes the new MB-N11 Power Battery Pack, grip for the Nikon Z6 and Z7 Mk2 and yes as you've all pointed out the grip does not come with batteries. Enough already ! I wanted to shoot a short video as there was nothing out there about the grip. Thanks forz the support of some, I appreciate it. #NikonMB-N11 #Nikon-Z6-Mk2 #Robb_Webb_Photography #New-Forest-Wedding-Photography

    The EN-EL15A, B and C all work with the Z6II, but only the EN-EL15C can be charged through the camera from an external supply for timelapse, etc, but you are correct about third party batteries not working.

    Push the button on the left hand side of the eye piece to change from the eye piece to back screen. Back button focus let's you focus once and them shoot as much as you want even after re-composing. Also makes using continuous focus when needed easier by holding the button then let go and you are back in sort of single shot focus mode.

    no batteries ever came with the D800 or D850 grips either. I bought 6 15c batteries when I bought the camera and grip for the Z6ii. Did you not download the user guides in advance? You hit the button on the left side of the viewfinder that disabled the liveview. Back button focus is a huge advantage for wildlife and fast sports. you keep the autofocus pressed and set the shutter button to only shoot the image and disable the autofocus on the shutter button. This method means your camera is constantly focusing and you can shoot faster. Use a Camranger for wireless control. you can see the images with liveview on phone or tablet and the range is hundreds of feet. Using the usb-c cable. when the camera is off it charges the batteries, when the camera is on it stops charging the batteries , and powers the camera only. I use a usb-c power-bank attached to it for powered use.

    Since when you bought a battery grip that came with a battery? I use Nikon Camera since 2008, never seen a grip with a battery !!!

    Back focus allows you to have continuous focus as long as you are pressing ; once you let go you are back to single focus, meaning you get to have both modes simultaneously 😊.

    I just recently bought a Z6ii, and all my existing en-el15 batteries work fine except one, it's en-el15B not the 1st generation ones, but one that came in my D850.

    Nice one Rob; just received (after an interminable wait!!) my MB-N11 grip (and the two batteries I bought for it) from my (physical....support your local Dealers folks!) Dealer. This video was a useful watch before attaching it and then probably largely forgetting it. I needed the grip for battery power driving long lenses, to allow me to stay in wildlife-hides longer & ease of use in portrait. It ticks all those boxes for me and helps make the pain of waiting for my Z9 (also on order) not due until Jan 2023........! My wife and I married 26 yeas ago (celebrated yesterday actually) and we still enjoy the beautiful images captured by the pro-tog that we commissioned (all captured on film.....digital was not even a glint in Nikon's eye at that time). So I agree fulsomely with your closing comments - & more power to you! Thanks for sharing. Ian

    Thank you very much Robb for your report about the MBN11 grip, it really is the best on the web, you have shown all the aspects, you have cleared up many concerns I had about the 2 batteries it uses, and especially the internal contacts it has, far weather, moisture and dust. I am a travel photographer and also for companies, ships, tuna boats, agriculture, so for me the waterproofing of my equipment is essential. I will buy the MBN11 and I will put the 3866 smallrig rig on it to protect the equipment and be able to adapt the classic accessories, microphones, triggers, monitor, etc... and above all for shock protection. I do have 2 C batteries, so what I will do is mount both, and when they are discharged, to avoid taking out the reel every day, I will charge them with USB-C. I don't do that with the USB of the camera because if I damage it, lose the seal, or break, it would cost me as much as the grip. That is why I have decided that I better do it from the grip that is cheaper. Greetings from Ecuador.

    No Nikon battery grips have EVER come with a battery, let alone 2. It's an unrealistic expectation

    As a longtime Nikon user, why in the world would you expect the battery grip to include batteries when that’s never been the case with ANY vertical grip?

    AND... at 9:40 that is not all, the usb charging cable for 'mains power' as well as car charging is......sold separately 😞 who'd have guessed.

    How can you be a photographer and 1) not know to look into the lens when videoing yourself and 2) think a battery grip would come with batteries?

  • @fuzzytalz
    @fuzzytalz 2 роки тому +1

    In fact, the Z cameras - short of the Z 9 - all are backwards compatible with the earlier iterations of the EN-EL15 batteries, they simply won’t last as long.

    Interesting video but the constant change of ISO/aperture makes it a bit hard to watch. The window behind you makes the camera to constantly change ISO settings. Would it better to have everything in the 'M' mode with a manual ISO. Then there'd be no flicker on the screen. Otherwise, a fun video. I was surprised in the same way, when I unpacked this overpriced 'battery pack' and discovered it didn't improve the battery life one little bit. Paid over CAD$535 here in Canada for the **oody thing!

    The AF-on button for focusing and disabling the shutter button from focusing allows you to be able to make focus with the back button use the shutter button for actuating the shutter and taking the shot. That way if you are using af continuous you can keep focus on a subject and take as many shots as you like without loosing focus by depressing the shutter button. You must have the display for Evf only I keep mine on rear lcd and then switching to evf when I put my eye up to it. Press the button next to the evf to cycle through the different options.

    I'm the same way when it comes to the design and build of things I own. It HAS to look right!
    Bare in mind the quality has to be there! But it still has to look right!
    Excellent video- first I've seen of yours and look forward to more!
    Oh yeah, I'm from the States so it's "Z" for me, but "Zed" sounds much cooler!

    at 10:38 you take the door off, and stow it in the cavity on the battery pack- but WAIT, you must position the door at ~ 45 degrees to the 'closed' position, then GENTLY press toward one of the hinges, then tip the other pin outwards (like the 'bobbin' on a toilet roll, or a watch band pin), then pull away from the body, then the door is free, position in the bat. pack's cavity, clip shut (as if shutting the door on the camera body), then you can insert the pack flush with the body, all is good.

    as some comments have said, the Display switch is on the left of the viewfinder, you have it on Viewfinder only, if you want it to switch with your face going close to and far away, press this button till it shows Auto_Display_switch on the menu setting. ( one other troubleshooting step here, the sensor is below, inside the eyecup, could be some dirt, skin fragments, etc. covering this up, a cotton_bud will do the trick to clean it).

    AF ON called back button autofocus is used by mainly action, Sports and wildlife photographers. AF Plenty of cameras support back-button focusing, to work effectively, you need to remove the shutter button’s ability to engage autofocus when half pressed & you need to switch to continuous-servo AF. Back-button focus is advantageous & apply to a variety of shooting situations. no longer a need to spend time switching between AF-C and AF-S, when you lock focus (by releasing the back button) you can fire the shutter without the camera hunting or refocusing. you don’t have to use AF-L or switch to manual focus to lock AF. It's very helpful when photographing sports or wildlife

    These grips make these little cameras feel so much better coming from D750 with a grip it felt weird without it LOL thanks for the Review battery life and the balance on larger lenses is 100% better...

    great cameras, I got the Mk-1 Z6 and it's great, radio trigger, flash etc. BUT one thing to note, to get all the flash triggering, and the full capability out of the Z6 flash menu options you NEED the SB-5000 flash guns!, the others work, YES, but only basic modes (like on the Fujifilm APS-C cameras{the fill in/first curtain sync/rear curtain/flash off selections} ), aka the ABC group mode, BUT this is changed on the FLASH, the 'updating' of details and settings between flashgun and camera ( Camera is in commander mode), doesn't occur, or is sluggish, NO fault of the camera!!- it NEEDS the sb-5000 to communicate correctly.
    and it needs the 5000 to have groups D/E/F as well (these are Optical only, the first a/b/c are radio compatable).

    So we can power the camera with a USB-C battery bank? That’s huge!

    • @robertwebb7670
      @robertwebb7670 2 роки тому +1

      Yes you can. It’s brilliant. No more worrying about batteries dying on a long days work, just plug in an external power pack and carry on. I’ve done it and it works. Just watch out with which batteries you use. It only charges the ones designed for the Z62. I think they are the ones designated C by Nikon. Others may power the camera but will not charge from the usb.

    Did you mount the EN-EL15C battery/batteries in this grip? And, if so, does it function properly? I ask this since, in the grip manual’s “Specifications” section it mentions the “B” battery and EN-EL15 batteries but not the “C” (longer lasting) version (that came with my Z6 II, kind of odd for a grip specifically designed for the Z6 II and the Z7 II only??? I agree that it should come with the batteries since the way this grip is advertised at B&H Photo and elsewhere suggest that it does when really the (semantic) meaning is that it can mount two batteries.
    Also, it’s Zee not Zed (we kicked Cornwallis back to England so we could say that!)! And, when discussing “Kingfishers”, “Granchester Meadows”, as background music, is warranted!

    For the price i am bit disappointed that it doesn't come with a usb c charger. Canon BG-E22 comes with it.
    Batteries never come with battery grip unless you buy a chinese knock off.
    Your disappointment might be coming from the promotional grip which came with strap, battery, usb cable, charger, and cable management tool

    The older EN-EL15 batteries are working well in the Z6II. You just can’t charge them internally. You should inform yourself better before you publish WRONG INFORMATIONS 👎👎👎

    Spent 38 minutes complaining about Nikon. When has Nikon EVER supplied batteries with their packs? Or any camera company for that matter? Also you went to a local camera store, didn't asking the question ever come up?
    You are a professional photographer of 15 years? And this is hard to adjust to?
