Okay, here’s what I think! First, I’ve owned all Nikon D series cameras from D3300 - D850, also Sony’s from A 6000 a A7riii, and Fuji X- T20 - X-T3, oh, and currently shooting Z6 and had the z7 too. Ken, is operating from a hurt place, due to something Nikon did in the past or should I say didn’t do, and this makes him negatively bias. I have delivered some amazing pictures to clients with all my cameras, and love the Z6 everywhere except studio work, but even there it’s good. The Z6ii has answered the issues that I needed addressing, especially dual card slots. Okay, one other gripe, the auto tracking auto focus is still in need of improving. I am buying the z6ii and keeping my z6 also

I'm getting a Z6 II and I'm a diehard Nikon fan. I agree with the issue of the poor card door placement and engineering. For what you're paying, he likely feels, is that you're not getting enough for your dollar. Usage of the top of the camera may not be the best and subject tracking may leave much to be desired, but that's why the 6/10.
For a $2,000 body, certain things shouldn't have been overlooked. I feel as though these new cameras are S's more than II's, you know? Even still, I can't wait to get mine!

Quick fix, camera shoots 14fps. Not 12. And it's the fastest mechanical shutter on the market, so it's not lacking there unless you are comparing electronic shutters to mechanical shutters.

    • @Guillaume9

In 12bit raw, in 14bit raw it is 11. The fastest is the XT-4 15fps for what is mirrorless! dslr 1dx3 16fps with mirror and 20 mechanical without mirror.
So not that much better and if you prefer to have the best raw the r6 still faster, and again the Xt4 15fps 14bit

@@Guillaume9 To be fair, I believe the claim Alik is making is FF mirrorless and the claim was originally made by Kai. So... The XT-4 is not a full frame camera, it's APS-C. Interesting review. I have both the d850 and z6ii, using both regularly for wildlife photography. I agree with some of your criticism but differ on some key points and overall impression. I love both the d850 and z6 but, for me, they are very different cameras for different purposes. No one camera, at least yet, can do everything. For fast action in good light, or when I know ill be cropping a lot, the d850 every time. In lower light, where I'm closer to the subject, always the z6. It would have never occurred to me to even try and compare the two. Regarding some of the criticism we disagree on. I think the Z6 IQ is fantastic, and I'm comparing that with the d850 daily. The low noise at high ISO is one of my favourite aspects of the camera, it is just phenomenal in low light. Crucial for me is the silent shutter when close to a subject and touch screen autofocus, I rarely use the view finder as I want the camera as low as possible and have the ability to very quickly compose a shot using the flexibility of almost full sensor af point coverage. These points also held true for the z6, I upgraded for a small number of incremental updates which irritated me such as the slower AF and how dammed long it took to come out of standby! In summary, d850 amd z6ii, both great, both different, both indispensable for me.

Instagram is the only place i have photos online, tristan.bane, with the exception of the most recent post all the fox images have been taken with the z6. I am not femiliar with other camera systems. I've used 2 Nikon's D750's for tha past 3.5 years and I got great value for the price in my opinion. Yes, there were problems here and there but nothing out of the ordinary and overall my expereance was very positive. so when the time came I bought the origional Z6 and now I've added also the Z6Ii. I have to say Im just getting to start enjoying the new technologies mirrorless cameras offer, and even if there is a better system out there, I feel so comfortable holding a Nikon's body, so thinking about trying another brand just comes off the table everytime.
Waiting for the Adobe to update thete programs for Z6II raw file, so I could realy try and enjoy it.

I agree with your assessment of the Z6 II, but some of your comparisons are dated. For example, I can't imagine the Z6 II can hold the R5/R6's jockstrap in an Eye AF battle. Honestly, Sony comes up short there, even if it might edge ahead in other AF areas. Grabbing an eye in action at 60-100 feet is pretty much unheard of outside of Canon, at least for now.

    And actually show some shots.
Objectivity means use non biased data, not your 'feel' or opinion. Its valid of course but its not objective, its anedoctal.
Measure shutter noise objectively for example is measure actual sound in deciqbels comparing with others of the same class/price range and show numbers.
Same for speed, dynamic range, vignetting, iso noise, chromatic aberration, etc.
With that said i like your reviews but i always take them with a grain of salt, precisely because altough its a independent view its not objective.

Hey Ken. I have an odd question. I noticed a round, black and red tag on your Fuji. I'm guessing it says: PD on the small tag. Caught my attention due to my purchase of a camera from an ebay store. This Nikon D300s has the exact same tag, and I wondered where the camera originally came from. Could stand for PD = paid. Or Police Department, or maybe Photo Department. Could just be something esoteric that really means nothing in the real world. The ebay store is a liquidations company, I believe. You have that same tag on that one camera.

The Z6ii lost the ability to adjust shutter speed using the rear command disk in all modes including S and M. I can change shutter speed with the front command disk in S and M modes by flipping the main/sub command disks into the custom control settings. I can also change shutter speeds in S and M modes using the touchscreen. Therefore, the issue appears to be exclusively related to the back command disk. I have reset the camera to default settings to make sure the menu setting is not the problem. The camera firmware has been updated to version 1.30. The new camera was purchased earlier this year. I was able to adjust the shutter speed with the back command disk before updating the firmware.
Has anyone had this problem? I'm trying to determine if it's a mechanical issue or a firmware update issue. I searched Google for the issue to see if it was related to the last firmware update to version 1.30 and didn't see any posts about the update

Some personal additions of a D750 / Z6 II user:
    (Fuji's XT/GFX in parallel)
    Subscribing crucial points to 90%.
Adding: size/3d-size of new Z-models is too small in my opinion - there's a gap between old and new that's too big.
AF Performance is really next step - with Z-Lenses.
FTZ + focus peaking with older manual lenses is just mediocre.
Other technical stuff is contemporary upgrade, nothing to point out in my opinion too much.
Image output in general is good, JPGs are better than via the D750.
From lowlight/available light perspective (concert, theater, street - the reason to buy a D750 at that time): Image output on higher ISO (from 3200) is too softened .. the "better" noise behavior .. a result of blurring out too much detail or just not that "kind of better" I expected. Just a trade off. AF-performance in low-contrast situation ist NOT distinctly superior.
    Nikon vs Fuji:
Physical advantages of full frame, of course, and better LCD/Colors. But Fuji is always "au point". Fantastic lenses, good AF-performance. Reliable in every aspect. At a reproducible price point ..
    Hardware:
    Nikon Z6 II + 70-200/2.8 S + Sigma 85/1.4 Art
    Fuji XT4 + 90mm/f2 + 50-140/2.8

You gave it a better review than I expected. The stuff you rated as pluses I agreed with and most of the negatives seemed, from the way I took your comments, to be personal preferences. The eye relief and top of the camera and the size of the rear wheel all seemed personal. I have big hands... Size 2X gloves are tight, and I too where glasses, and I like all those things that you didn't. In the good ole days those were things people called personal preferences.
On the issue with set up. I just disagree. The set up and operation of the Z menus and focus is different. You might want to look at Hudson Henry's video on recommended settings for the Z6II. He is a big fan, and he does have affiliate links, but he has been using the camera since the Zs came out, and he is comfortable with the cameras and lenses. Depending on what you are doing with the camera (i.e. use case) you should definitely consider the Z6 II before spending almost the same amount of $ on the old Sony. Honestly want to use my old MF lenses (Nikon, Lensbaby, Lomography, Helios etc). IF I want video, I have my Blackmagic Pocket 4K. Or maybe later a Z cam full frame or at least super 35... So really looking for a new or late model used full frame DSLR Nikon or possibly a full frame mirrorless with GOOD FOCUS PEAKING... what would you suggest? I’m thinking pricing of D610 would be ideal and for me might be the best choice... I’ll look at the 850’s. Being DSLR’s I won’t have to worry about focus peaking as much... but it would help in live view. I guess I have to look at your videos of the 850, 610 if you have it... and really learn something about Fuji. Again I couldn’t care less about AF, eye tracking etc.. but do care about raw, color balance, usability with older manual lenses. I don’t want to go as old as my 300’s in a full frame.. something current or recent.. or a new fangled Fuji? Thoughts? Ok, going to check out your other videos.. always valuable, always entertaining.

@@veronikagundersen9334 good luck...the usefulness of a feature in a camera principally depends on your genre.. but prior to eyeAF and animalAF people's being taking pictures of fast action and sports with DSLR and even SLRs with high keeper rate.. I guess the norm now is skill be damned get a sony/fuji robot.. plus, gimmicky don't mean it doesn't work but just a detractor from the real thing..

This Z thing to me is not good enough, I still want a D500 or D850 but still cant afford the insane amount of money they cost. Nice review Ken, your channel is always my top reference. Guess haters gonna hate no matter what you say. Have a nice week.

Hi everyone, I have a fuji xh1, for me one of the best camera in quality, ergonomy and price in APSC. I buy a Nikon d700 to enter slowly in the FF world with your advices with the Nikkor 60mm 2.8 and Nikon 24-85 VR ED and the results even in low light are beautiful, the "rendu" is very nice. Sony and the rest I don't like there philosophy, ergonomy and colors. But we must look to Panasonic with is new line : S5, S1, SR very good ergonomy, beautiful image quality, what a "piqué"! (lumix s 24-105), very well build and many firmware update to optimize the performance. Thank you for your test and work is very useful. Have a nice day Hub.

are there any compatability issues with third party lenses on the z6ii?

Thing is, from the perspective of being a lens reviewer, you should keep one Z-mount camera for the purpose of reviewing Z-mount lenses, because more keep coming out. But the again, that’s me telling you how to spend your money, so…

Wow, what a bummer. My D750’s are getting long in the tooth and I’m shooting more video. I really wanted the Z6II to be the answer. Ken you have not steered me wrong yet on either lens or camera recommendations but I think I’m going to have to rent the z6II and see for myself. If it doesn’t work I’ll pick up the D850, hopefully the auto focusing will be much better. Really disappointed right now. One question though. Did you test the camera with any of the Tamron G2 lenses?

@@garrycore I had the Tamron 70-200 mm f/2.8 G2 and used it on the Z6 when I went to the Galapagos last year. It worked great until recently. The focus started to be sluggish, misses a lot, and sometimes not working at all. I sold it and got the Z version. It was night and day, but so is the price.

Why don't you compare z6 II with an equivalent peer from Sony/Canon and make adjustments for price . Why comparing to d850. D850 at that price can't do many things that z6 can, videos for main.. so you are not fair, you may think you are.. is coming from your grudge towards Nikon or positive bias to Fuji..
