The rotary control is fantastic. I really don't get the criticism of this. Yes, you have to spend a little bit of time with it to learn the layout, but once you're used to it it's actually faster and more accurate than a touch screen. I don't have to take my eyes off the road to reach any function and I never get ugly fingerprints all over my screen. I'm glad Mazda is sticking to their guns on this.
100% agreed. So much BS on the rotary dial (misleading the viewers). In fact it's the selling point besides the handling. I have 800+ mp3 to scroll through. Try that on a touch screen and drive in traffic.
@@dquarks i will never understand why people complain about fingerprints. Are you guys slobs that can't take 5 seconds to wipe the screen down? Also it's hilarious to applaud Mazda for "sticking to their guns" when they added touchscreen functionality to the 2024 MY.
one thing you notice overtime with the rotary knob is bad comment is that it’s said often by journalists. they don’t drive the car long term. and when you do drive long term, the rotary knob makes way more sense than a touchscreen
I just got back into a CX30 after my Crosstrek was totaled and I have to say this car just suits me better. Visibility and cargo space are vastly deficient when compared to the Subaru but everything else is so good that I’m willing to overlook those. Rotary dial can take some getting used to but I prefer it over fumbling with knobs and buttons while I’m driving. Some things don’t make sense like not being able to cycle thru your radio presets at the press of a steering wheel mounted button. But these are relatively small complaints for me. The last thing I’ll say about this car that the reviewer didn’t focus on…the absolutely stellar feel of the materials in the cabin. I don’t just mean the materials but how they feel when you operate levers, handles, knobs, gear shifters….everything operates with feels that are satisfying, cushiony and never jarring. They really paid attention to every detail as far as the feel, fit l, and finish are concerned.
I've had my 2022 CX-30 Carbon Edition (non-turbo engine) for 19 months thus far. No problems, issues or complaints to report, other than I had to black-out additional portions of the vehicle to make that thick body cladding look palatable to me & properly integrated into the vehicle design. This is my first Mazda & I've come to believe that they build better ICE vehicles than either Toyota or Honda these days.
i got a 23' CX-30 Turbo in Black Exterior/Red Leather interior. THIS is the spec to get. I say this in basically all the CX-30 vids on YT, but Mazda blessed us with a mini Japanese Porsche Macan lite. all for under $40k CAD MSRP. zoom fkn zoom.
I was hesitant about the rotary dial at first but now that i am used to it i prefer it A LOT over a touch screen. When in motion it is vastly superior to a touch screen and i needn't move my hand at all to do what i want or need. While i agree the side windows are too small i find the visibility rearward and fwd to be similar to many other sub compact suvs. You carp about the visibility issues with the cx 30 but then recommend the 3 hatch which has abysmal rearward visibility...so...which is it?
@@JamesVanCleaf oh absolutely it’s better than anything Lexus has to offer. Although i don’t quite agree with the last part where it beats out the GLA x1 q3. Because those have better rear suspensions better grip more power etc
@@naveenthemachine sorry, I meant purely aesthetically! I misread your original comment. But yeah I still agree about Lexus, getting a subcompact Lexus seems silly when these exist
@@matthewgarcia920 high mileage and was needing a new evaporator core bc the windows would fog up inside when it was cold. Figured it was better to trade in then continue to dump money into it. My Mazda is faster, has AWD, nicer interior/infotainment, and has a very nice, long warranty…. Also, I like hatchbacks. Makes it easy for pet transport. I think the rotary radio control is the best. Can it be improved? Yes, but it helps me keep eye on the road and once you learn it, it's actually not bad. Also, doesn't the touchscreen activate when Android Auto is engaged?
I really like this CX-30! You know, I love the Mazda 3, it is my favorite normal car, but the CX-30 is the SUV version of the Mazda 3 so I like it as well 😂
You´re so lucky in North America and Canada. You can have the 2.5L Turbo. In Europe you can only have 2L with maximum 186HP and nothing more. I would like to have the 2.5L Turbo with 250HP. That´s enough to drive smoothly and sometimes little bit faster. For me the CX-30 is the perfect Car. I love it to drive. I have the 2.0L Skyactive -X Motor and 186HP and the 6MT. I drive my car since 2 years and have driven 28300km.
I have to say something to Mazda. I really like what you're doing here stick to design quality and excellent drive experience. But yet regarding the infotainment system. The upper hand goes to the consumers who hands you over a check buying your product. Or getting themselves in dept to buy your product. Only one thing give the consumer the choice. Thank you for the review. Oh by the way that apply to all cars manufacturers.
The thing about picking the right car, truck, suv is that everyone may have a different opinion about the car. Things is you really have to experience the ride yourself and also be ready to fix whatever is wrong with it. A plus would be upgraded parts for the car, truck, or suv you purchase. Like if it has a bad motor or transmission upgraded better quality parts should be made to compensate for the first poor design. And should be corrected with a new build instead of going back to what they used at first.
Bought the CX-30 after also test driving the Crosstrek, Kona and Cross. CX-30 is really the best overall.

Yep I like the rotary as well. I detest finger prints on screens - drives me nuts. If I’m OCD in any area, it’s that.

The outward view is no problem whatsoever. Visibility is great all around, especially if you know how to use the mirrors

Very nice! I couldn't afford the Turbo, but the regular 2.5l engine is still enjoyable to drive.
@Wigglythegreat2 despite being the non-turbo, it's still one of the least sluggish in the class of sub-compact crossover.

Agreed, now when i drive it's effortless and feels so luxurious!
I drive a cx5 and have the same feelings about it.
These guys are trying to pick the winners and losers.
I love the lack of fingerprints on my screen. When it’s -10F outside the knob works with gloves…
I'm glad you understand good design. My 900 mp3 songs I scroll through would have been dangerous with touch screen in heavy traffic 😑.
There are luxury SUVs that are so much worse than the cx30

I dont agree with much of what you complain about. I LOVE the small side windows. It makes it feel cozier and it does NOT interfere with visibility.
Totally agree with you
I just got the 2024, CX 30 Turbo edition Zicron sand carbon 💞💞
The idea that a subcompact SUV needs a 9-speed transmission to make use of 250 hp is a bit of a head-scratcher.
I want this exact same model! The light color seats, brown and black interiors, and machine gray exterior color are just perfection!
I recently traded in my 2016 audi a3 for a turbo premium cx30. Loving the change so far.
damn why?

I've heard some really great things about this car, but I see a lot of used ones for sale with low mileage (around 5,000) and I'm wondering why?
Once you learn the rotary control. You don’t take your eye of the road. Can’t say the same for the touch screen.

As far as actual affordable cars, VW and Mazda lead the way, I don’t think they make an ugly car,
Mazda is killing it with style and power.

I'm a little more curious for what Mazda replaces this with. Hopefully independent rear suspension is part of that replacement.
Less plastic cladding, independent suspension and 3 inches more legroom.
amen, it should be present on the mazda 6 atleast next year
I got to drive one for just a little but and the interior's build quality is amazing
Mazda infotainment is miles above everyone that's not luxury

you measure more than 2 meters, do not pretend a rolls royce in the rear seats.
Do you all take questions about older Mazdas? The 2010 Mazda CX 9. I been told some bad news about mine. Not 100 percent convinced of the info I have😂
Well it's 2010 so ford made it , so I'm not surprised lol
6-8 month wait in Canada.

this market segment is a lot more popular than sedans/hatchbacks
Au contraire, it fits my needs perfectly.
