You are consistently one of my go to channels to watch this year. Your narration, all the b footage, your choice in games.. all of it is great. Keep it up and I’ll keep watching!
That is wonderful to hear, Lonegamesman! I'm so happy you find my videos helpful. Thank you for the nice comment and thanks for checking out the video!
This Summer I decided to delve into solo gaming. I really appreciated your videos for walking me through the products and helping me select great games. Final Girl is one of my all time favourite, but I was surprised how much I loved Under Falling Skies.
That's awesome to hear! I'm glad my channel could help in a small way. I really believe watching playthroughs is the best way to determine if a game is a good match for your tastes. I hope you continue to find games you love! Thank you so much for supporting the channel!
Great list! Blood Inn is one of my favorite underrated games of all time, and is also one of a handful of games I readily gift to people when they're getting into board games. Tracking down the expansion is also worth your time.
Amazing list and video as usual. Great recommendations and your short explanations coupled with videos of the games give a great feel of what they are like in just a minute or two. Can't wait for the inevitable Top 10 Heavyweight solos list
Thanks for the compliments! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The next in the series will be "medium-heavy" games and then I'll end it with the heavyweight division. I actually need to get a few games to the table before I film that last one. Lots of newer contenders to the heavy list. Thanks so much watching!
Thanks! I didn't intend to have a six-month gap between the videos in the series, but I've struggled to stay on schedule. Hopefully I'll get to the next one a bit sooner. 😀 Thanks for checking it out!
Excellent list! And fantastic quality video as always. Some of my favorite medium weight solos are: Legacy of Yu, Welcome to the Moon, and It's a Wonderful World.
Those are great suggestions! It's a Wonderful World is one of my go-to games on Board Game Arena with my friends. I need to get the physical game to the table for some solo play. Very fun drafting game. Thanks for watching!
Sweet list! As a Star Wars fan, Outer Rim definitely has me intrigued now. I definitely prefer my solo games in the heavy/medium heavy category but some I would say that are my favourites in the medium weight category are: Lost Ruins of Arnak, Tapestry, Expeditions, Marvel Champions, and The Reckoners.
Outer Rim is the best solo Star Wars game IMO. Rebellion is amazing for 2 players. I like Imperial Assault with more. Yeah, Outer Rim is amazing. I consider Arnak a step up from the games on this list, so it will definitely appear on the next video in the series. But these things are very subjective. I've always wanted to try Reckoners but I've never had the chance. Thanks so much for checking out the list, Laurence!
Everytime I hear you talk about The Loop I want to try it more! Excellent video as always, you do an amazing job at summing up games in such a short time. Also congratulations on the sponsor man, it seems to me it is the first time you have one unrelated to the video theme (in opposition to sponsored playthroughs for example). I'm really glad for you, I've heard this is the real deal for making a living out of a UA-cam channel! And you 100%+ deserve it!
Thanks so much! Your support is really appreciated, as I know these monetization methods are tricky from a viewer's perspective. I'm dipping my toe in the sponsorship thing, but I'm going to go slow and be very selective. Sponsored playthroughs will probably end altogether or be reserved for very special occasions. These ads on Top 10 lists will probably continue sporadically for a while. I'm not trying to make a living with the channel, but with all the responsibilities and activities vying for my time, my plate is fuller than ever, and it is hard to justify the time commitment without "breaking even" in some sense. My first concern is to keep the channel alive and kicking, because I really enjoy making these videos. Sorry for the rambling response. I just really appreciate your encouragement and it means a lot to hear it. Thanks!
@@TotallyTabled That seems like a wise strategy! Indeed it is really nice that the sponsor is a boardgame (and not some random VPN). And since the sponsor's game is not part of your top it is obvious that the sponsorship doesn't introduce a bias in your choices, which is all that most viewers care about in my opinion. And of course there must be some compensation for the time invested in the channel. By experience, what your viewers really want is that you can keep making these videos at this awesome level of quality, and it means that you can make them comfortably, at your own pace, and having fun along the way. So it is obvious and 100% understandable that it must respect a balance with your personal/family life, and a financial input is a good start for that 😄
Why I’m almost exclusively a solo gamer and how it’s the fault of my game group. They used to pay attention when teaching a game but now they all pull out there phones, wait for me to finish rambling, then they say, “great can we just take a turn now? Cuz I don’t really learn this way.” I said, “sure. Go ahead. Take your turn.” I’ve been trying for years to teach in different ways but they still go right to their phones. and when I asked if someone else would like to teach a game they gave a hardy laugh. I can’t do it any more. I no longer by a game unless it has a good solo mode.
Another brilliant video. I was intrigued by The Bloody Inn and had a look at your playthroughs. Looks like my sort of game: a card game with great art that tells interesting stories. Unfortunately it’s not available here in the UK at the moment so I’ll have to keep my eye out for a second hand copy.
I own Warp's Edge, Final Girl, and Pandemic: Iberia. All three are solid games. As for the others on your list, I've been interested in learning Concordia for sometime now and the Bloody Inn looks really good too. So many people recommend The Loop as well... Anyway, nice list!
thanks so much.... your still the best at doing these videos on the internet.... I hope you plan on doing a heavy weight top 10 lists as well... thanks and have a happy new year....
Thanks so much. That is really nice of you to say. I definitely plan on doing two videos -- 10 med-heavy and then 10 heavy heavy. Hope you had a wonderful new years!

Thanks for this. May have to check out 51st state. Funny true story: I listened to this to fall asleep last night-you have such a chill voice, and I’m that kind of geek right now. Then I had a dream that I won Warp’s Edge in a contest. Then this morning someone is offering Warp’s Edge in a contest on 1PG solo top 200. And now I watched the list and realized that’s probably what led to the dream. 😂
51st State is definitely in my list for top solo games. I’m excited to play Outer Rim. I’m intrigued by Loop and will look into that one. Thanks for the video!
Castles of Burgundy is one of my favourite solos too. Lots of others that I would put on my list though. Lost Ruins of Arnak, Earth, Encyclopedia, Fantastic Factories, Red Cathedral, Suburbia, It's a Wonderful World, Roll Player, Isle of Cats, Terraforming Mars, and my favourite Pandemic game is Fall of Rome. Maybe that list isn't all medium weight, but there are so many good solo games these days.
I haven't played that one. Seems like an interesting twist. It is hard for me to play a different Pandemic game than Iberia. I love that one so much. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, don't let the artwork keep you from playing this great game. I actually like the art, but either way, The Loop is a clever game that is very satisfying and challenging to play. Thanks so much!
That's interesting. I don't Final Girl to be that expensive compared to other games. You can jump in with just the base box and two scenario boxes and have a lot to explore. The scenarios are very replayable. But that is one reason I don't talk about money and "value" most of the time -- it is very subjective. Thanks for watching!
@@TotallyTabled Right. I'm going to extract both feet from my mouth and apologise. The last time I looked at Final Girl (I'm in Australia) the base set (which is worthless on its own) was $60 and each scenario box was $55-60. I really don't feel (at that price) the game is worth it. The replayability for each scenario is low. However, having checked on Amazon I see the Aussie prices are now $30-38 which is much more reasonable. 🙂
@@michaelhill6453 Wow! They are SO much cheaper in the US! Like $15 a pop and $12 on sale. Yikes. I completely agree $60 and even $30 is not very good value (assuming buying power is fairly similar where you live as it is here). That is another problem with considering price -- it varies so much from place to place. Availability is another tricky issue. Games that are easy and cheap to get here are often expensive and unavailable elsewhere. I hate hearing a game I love is hard to get. Recommending board games is hard! 😅Thanks!
Great list ! I haven’t played CoB yet, although I have the deluxe version! I started playing board games a few years now and it took me time and money to find what I like in a game and what I hate. Currently I’m playing pirates of Maracaibo. It’s so satisfying playing this game solo! I would put it in top 3 choice of my list. Earth is the other one, and there is a plan for an expansion! And last but not least, Agricola.
Those are games I need to play! I've played Earth once on Board Game Arena with 3 players. I need to try it solo. And Pirates of Maracaibo looks awesome. Definitely on my list. Thanks so much for watching the video and you MUST crack open CoB. Watch my full solo playthrough video first, of course. 😁
I will gladly die alone on the hill that The Loop is one of the most underrated solo games of all time. It honestly boggles my mind that it isn't discussed more. Glad to hear there are some fans out there! I'll do another Loop playthrough on my channel soon. And yeah, Iberia is awesome. At this point it is the only Pandemic I play. I hear some of the new ones are interesting, but I'm satisfied with Iberia I think. Thanks for watching!
Medium weight is tough for solo. My tastes tend to fall into two camps: 1) easy-to-table card games and 2) behemoth co-ops and campaign games. Most of my favorite medium weight games I prefer to play multiplayer. That being said, The LOOP is my favorite game of any weight or player count. I also like Under Falling Skies, Warp’s Edge, Hadrian’s Wall, and I’m really digging the solo campaign for Arnak.
I tend to agree with you. My list of "medium-heavy" weight solo games is LONG and it will be difficult to stick to only ten. Those are great suggestions. I consider Arnak a bit too complex for this list, so it will definitely be on the next list. Thanks for checking out the video!
Great list with interesting titles. I am not hands-on familiar with all the games. Personally from the list specifically, Star Wars Outer Rim (now with the Unfinished Business expansion) holds the pole position for medium games. But honestly, I find it really hard to define what a medium game truely is for me.
It is a really fun game. Almost a comfort game for me. In fact, it is one of the few games on the channel I've filmed two playthroughs for -- that's how much I enjoy playing it. Very clever systems. Thanks for watching!
My boys, 8 & 6, are going through a huge Star Wars phase right now. I wonder if Star Wars: Outer Rim is decipherable enough for me to play solo with their input? They really enjoy cooperative games, mostly for the story (I can manage the complexity for them if need be, but I've found I shouldn't underestimate them).
It would be too complex for my 8-year-old son to play. That said, everything is open information for the most part, so with a bunch of guidance I could see it working, especially if they love this universe. In fact, you could play the solo mode cooperatively with just one character and decide on actions together. And then you could handle the AI opponent. I could definitely see that working and it would be a game they could grow into. I would also look into Star Wars Imperial Assault, which is a great dungeon crawl style game, and might work even better. Check out my playthrough of Outer Rim if you haven't already here: ua-cam.com/video/lycrIF2rrtw/v-deo.html. That should really help you tell if it would be right for your family. Thanks for watching!
I just played Keep the Heroes out for the first time a few weeks ago and it was a lot of fun. I need to play more. Arnak will be on the "medium-heavy" list for sure -- one of my favorite solo games of all time. Thanks for watching!
A bit of overlap with me. I still haven’t tabled my CoB collectors edition. Need to do that sometime soon! Here is my current top 10 medium-ish games. Medium is tough because it is such a large group of games and medium heavy to me might go either way for others. 1) Marvel Champions 2) Xia: Legends of a Drift System 3) Dune: Imperium 4) The Lord of the Rings LCG 5) The 7th Continent 6) Star Wars: Outer Rim 7) Tiny Epic Dungeons 8) Runebound 3e 9) Leaving Earth 10) Nemo’s War
You must table CoB stat! But first watch my full solo playthrough video! 😁 That is a great list! Games like Dune, Nemo's War and 7th Continent I would classify as "medium-heavy" so they may or may not show up on my next list in the series. Thanks so much for watching!
@@TotallyTabled Agree I do need to do this. So are you doing a medium heavy and then a heavy video? Or is that a bit too granular. Pretty much why I said its hard to classify games in this weight range. I basically put anything from 2.8- 3.3ish on BGG as medium for me. I like to use 5 classes vs 3 these days to capture the overlap weights.
Not yet. I'm going to do a medium-heavy and then heavy. I have done a Top 10 Heavy Games (not necessarily solo) list in the past. And I just released a playthrough of a heavy solo game -- Voidfall. I've done coverage of many heavy games in playthroughs and other lists including (in no particular order) Frostpunk, Robinson Crusoe, This War of Mine, Halls of Hegra, Mage Knight, Kanban EV, Nemesis, Weather Machine, and others. Hope that helps. Have a great day!
I didn't realize and I am very sad to hear that. So many great games go in and out of print -- I have to imagine this is one that will be reprinted at some point. Thanks for checking out the list.
None of these are "medium weight" to me, except The Reckoners which I haven't played. In terms of BGG ratings, none of the games on my list are over 3. I understand that not everyone agrees with this definition of "medium." But the next video in the series will be "med-heavy" which will be in the 3-4 range. And then "heavy" which will be 4-5. Thanks for watching!
What an amazing list. I dread that I miss buying the Bloody Inn what I had the chance, I was new to the hobby and it didn't look that interesting. Then I found your playthrough and OMG. At this point I am hoping for it to either be reprinted by another publisher or that it might find a place in BGA eventually 🥲
You're in luck! A little birdy told me it will be on BGA at some point, hopefully soon. I didn't realize it was difficult to get a physical copy of it. That's a shame. I'm probably one of the more vocal champions for it, so I'm a bit out of the mainstream, but I've always had fun with it whether solo or multiplayer. Thanks so much for watching!
@@TotallyTabled Well that made my day! Yes it is kind of hard, plus I do not live in US, so even if I ever find it shipping might be painful but hey I am all for a digital implementation 👍
@@TheRASDEL83 It sucks how difficult it is to buy some of these games in certain parts of the world. Definitely a big issue that needs to be addressed in the hobby. If you are able to access alpha games on BGA, it is worth trying to join. I have fun playtesting the early versions of these games. But it does require a lot of plays under your belt.

A bit of overlap with me. I still haven’t tabled my CoB collectors edition. Need to do that sometime soon! Here is my current top 10 medium-ish games. Medium is tough because it is such a large group of games and medium heavy to me might go either way for others.
1) Marvel Champions
2) Xia: Legends of a Drift System
3) Dune: Imperium
4) The Lord of the Rings LCG
5) The 7th Continent
6) Star Wars: Outer Rim
7) Tiny Epic Dungeons
8) Runebound 3e
9) Leaving Earth
10) Nemo’s War
Is there any way to purchase the CoB solitaire deck to use with previous (more affordable) editions of the game?
there isn't, however, there is an Awaken Realms approved fan made version on BGG (it's free).
Wow! I guess you really are enjoying Castles of Burgundy. 😉
I am! I already loved it and the solo mode just makes it better. Thanks for watching!
Has the "heavy" list come out yet?
@@TotallyTabled Thanks for the swift reply. Earned my subscribe, for sure! I'll check out a few of those - they sound interesting.
Thanks for the sub! I hope you enjoy the videos on the channel.
Dune Imperium didn't make the list? Not Medium or not good enough for top 10?
I consider solo Dune Imperium to be "medium-heavy" but it is close. It will definitely be on the next list. Thanks!
Sadly the Bloody Inn is super hard to find....
I didn't realize and I am very sad to hear that. So many great games go in and out of print -- I have to imagine this is one that will be reprinted at some point. Thanks for checking out the list.
Too Many Bones
Victorum
The Reckoners
Nemo’s War
Dawn of Zeds
Xia
Carnival Zombie
