    As an OSU fan I was at the game in 21 and have to admit even though we lost I had goosebumps watching the crowd after they beat us. Michigan puts on a great game day experience and their fans were very welcoming at the pre-game tailgate parties.

    Mr. Brightside is a Michigan song because that song is a spirit animal to the Michigan experience. Always stressed, always worried about something, but pushing forward anyway because great things are in the future…while still being super neurotic.

    Everytime I here this song, it takes me back to 11/27/21. Hearing the fans singing this after storming the field is something that I'll never forget.

      @@clearlycaribbeanreb2895 The sanctions were announced on July 8, 2011, and affected the Ohio State football program from 2011 to 2015. The punishment involved Ohio State vacating all wins from the 2010 season (including the 2011 Sugar Bowl win), a postseason ban in 2012, two years of NCAA probation, a five-year show cause for head coach Jim Tressel, and a reduction of five scholarships over three years.[2] Tressel would resign from Ohio State as a result of the scandal.

    As a Michigan, I hate that this is our “song” at football games. The Killers are overrated. It doesn’t fire me up in any way.

    I feel like if you don't like this as our song you either
    1) Aren't an alum (the song was a mainstay on UM party playlists long before it became the football song) or
    2) Weren't there for the absolute insanity that was the 2017 John OKorn 5 turnover MSU in the rain game. That game etched the song into my soul

    Another song that Michigan started popularity throughout sports was Pump It Up by Endor. Michigan played that song starting in 2021, and a lot of schools followed in 2022

    It all began because of DJ Josh Benington. He is Mr. BrightSide!!!

  • @ChristineBenington-n3q
    @ChristineBenington-n3q 4 години тому

    Fact: Josh Benington, U of M DJ introduced Mr. BrightSide to U of M football. Check the facts - they are out there. It was his creativity that brought it to the big house. It all started at a U of M cheerleaders wedding and took off from there. Give credit due where credit should be given. Josh Benington, grandson of former Michigan State University basketball coach, DJ’d for both universities - yes big time rivalries - but he loved sports and his job. Now that would be a great story!!!

    There is the video someone made of 2% to Number 2 about the 2021 run to playing Georgia. A beautiful 22:22 long video cut with all the talking heads talking their bullshit about Michigan. And then my favorite part of any UA-cam video I've ever seen is the 2021 OSU game highlights set to Mr. Brightside. Absolute chills every time I go back and see it.

    This may be wonderful music but check out the lyrics - makes no sense to sing it at any football game. I would be embarrassed as an alum. That said, if it works for you great. What about Nebraska holding up their shoes at kickoffs? I haven't been back to a game in a long time, but I don't understand this behavior. Keep your stinky shoes on your feet, please? No one has been able to explain how this shoe thing started.

      Also a Michigan alum, and I beg to differ. Mr. Brightside is a PERFECT theme song for the neurotic torment that is being a fan this century. Essentially it’s about being repeatedly tormented by your rival to where it’s on autoloop in your head, but carrying on regardless and hoping for the best. We all know about the last two decades prior to 2021, but this song is a way of owning that and channeling that angst into something fun that celebrates the great run we just had. The story of Michigan football isn’t a relic fossilized in amber, but a living journey that grows and evolves as we do. About ten years ago, none of us thought that all blue uniforms and Mr. Brightside would be part of that tradition but they are now, right alongside winged helmets and the Mad Magicians.

      Yeah and the song Gloria made no fuckin sense for the St. Louis Blues in their run to the Cup. A lot of successful songs like this for team make no sense because they're something random that people latch onto and love.
