Annas life as a queen, Elsa adjusting to life in the forest, Kristoff adjusting to life in Arendelle, literally ANY of those would have been a much better short than this.
And if he knew a certain language, wouldn't it be Norwegian? Doesn't this movie take place in Norway? I know they're translating it so it can be understandable to an English audience but...
Olaf's true existential crisis is when Olaf realizes he's only existence is for a megacorporation to make money off selling his body image to little kids,
Yeah; it can only really work if the character actually has substance outside the main cast to begin with. At least when Dreamworks made Puss in Boots that actually turned out great; he didn't need Shrek to carry the plot. Finding Dory was something I absolutely didn't expect to succeed but it succeeded alright and very impressively too.
I literally fixed the viewfinder thing * Hans tells olaf that ana left her summer dress and so he's putting it up for sale like the big greedy man he is * Funny joke where olaf thinks summer is a type of clothes, and hans realised he doesn't know about the seasons * Shows him an old photo of him at the beach during summer with an afro or something * Olaf goes "Wow that looks amazing, what's all that stuff etc. it's so beautiful." * Hans awkwardly stops talking about it because he knows olaf will die if he ever sees summer so olaf becomes curious and runs out the door in search of more answers about summer.
But that's too complicated for the kiddies! They don't know how to think. They're so stupid. You need to dangle keys in front of them for anything to sink in.
You actually gave Hans more dimension than the entire Frozen franchise ever has Tbh I actually liked him way more than Kristoff. The twist at the end just wasn't believable at all.
Would be nice if Disney would instead give us shorts of both how Anna and Elsa are doing from separate places, how they handle, and manage to rise up their character development more. Oh. Can't forget Kristoff. I can't stand just only watching him just to talk to Sven 24/7. He atleast actually do something as a future king or is king now.
Well at least this wasn't a 22 long minute special that Disney thought was a logical idea to play before a Pixar film(COUGH COUGH , OLAF FROZEN ADVENTURE)
Agreed. I remember when I went in for Coco and saw Frozen Adventure, I thought it was a terribly paced short until halfway through when I realized that it was just long.
I love Frozen (both movies) but OFA was just mediocre and unnecessary. If Disney was smart and didn't decide to put it before Coco, most people wouldn't care about it or just think it was decent. But they forced a 22 minute "short" down people's throats before another movie. That is inexcusable.
Pretty accurate, but tbf Olaf at least qualifies as a character, a kinda boring and simple one at that but a character none the less, which is more than can be said for the minions. They're just bland
@BigGreenDorito I don’t even understand the hate behind Frozen, it’s a good movie with likable characters, a decent story, hummable songs, is it perfect, no, is it overrated, yes, but I feel people hate in it to much while in reality it’s a pretty solid movie, just my opinion though
I remember when my father, sister and I watched that Olaf short before Coco at the local theatre. My father was supposed to get me home at a specific time, but he was running late because the Olaf short was not part of Coco’s runtime, so he couldn’t even know about how it would take up time at the theatre. Coco is still a good movie, don’t get me wrong, but that Olaf short will always make me mad in more ways than one.
fun fact: in kingdom hearts 3 you spend about 10 seconds exploring the climactic final level of the game as you are interrupted by boss fights yet you spend 5 minutes searching for olaf's body parts take that as you will
Disney clearly hasn’t heard the story telling method of “less is more”. Sometimes there are several story elements that don’t need an explanation or need to see. This short is a prime example.
Sometimes having mystery around a character can make them even more amazing. Think of Yoda. Very little is revealed about his origins, and he's so old that most of the Jedi masters remember him being there since THEY were kids.
@@thunderbird1921 Yeah, and now that we're finally finding out more about him and his species, they're taking their time with it and doing it right. Because the producers of The Mandalorian actually seem to care about telling a good story, unlike the people who made this cashgrab.

And then Olaf would've followed up with "heat sounds great! where can I find it?" and then Oaken could say something along the lines of "well, there isn't much of it right now, but there's plenty in summer!" And then go on a long tangeant explaining the wonders of summer.
@nostalgia television So? Just because something is for kids doesn't mean they don't have to care about the quality of their work! Or insult the intelligence of said kids! I mean, that kind of excuse can be applied to stuff like the Alpha and Omega sequels, the Norm of the North franchise, and The Emoji Movie, can't it? Those are for kids, so that means it's perfectly OK to make the writing as dumb as possible and treat the kids like morons, right? No! Of course not! Also, there are plenty of children's movies that are quite good! Zootopia, Big Hero 6, Encanto, Sonic 1 and 2, Mary Poppins Returns, the Paddington movies, Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2, pretty much anything from Pixar (Finding Nemo and WALL-E being especially good contenders), a majority of the old Disney classics...the list goes on! So sorry, but that "It's for kids" argument is invalid. It's a fallacy.
@@artbytesiaLate to the party but we never forgot the existence of Caillou, a show so horrible in both quality and messages that it's even hated by people who saw it as a kid. Meanwhile you have shows like Sesame Street, which has been beloved for decades thanks to it's simple design and "quality" writing. One show was horrible in every way while the other actively checked for quality control. Kids will know the difference, btw even a lot of kids who saw a few episodes hated the show.
@Bodacious_Crustacious If that's the case, then how come Breadwinners, which has terrible writing, bad character designs, juvenile humor, awful animation, and bad lessons, became the #1 show for kids in its time, and there are comments from parents saying their kids love badly-written and unneeded stuff like Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? I find it really stupid how he comes to life right after that. Um, how the heck does that work? Couldn't they have shown a winter sprite seeing him crash, take pity on him, and put him back together, giving him life as well? Wouldn't that make much more sense?
The reason I hated this short was because of how it basically ruined Olaf. His backstory was supposed to be abstract, but this short is just a cheap route for people who lack the energy to come up with abstract backstories themselves
It's basically called, _flanderization_ - the act of progressively exaggerating a single trait of a character until it overtakes all other characterization.

I've always wandered, in those "snowman came to life" stories, wouldn't the snowmen supposed to be terrified by the fact that they now live in a world covered with their own frickin skin? Like what if you woke up tomorrow and the entire city you live in was covered in human skin, how would you even react to that?
Funny how you’re pissed about the viewfinder part when really you should’ve noticed WHY IN THE HALIBUT IS IT IN FULL COLOUR?? Colour photography didn’t even exist, tho later on even until the early 1900s colour photography was at it’s infancy in experimentation, and even then it wouldn’t be publicly available for commercialize until much later in the 20th century.
Disney has never been consistent with real life history. The breed of horse Merida rides in Scotland either didn't exist in that era yet or wasn't in Scotland at the time, Princess and the Frog doesn't show the prejudice that was present in those times, and I think there was also a take about how the clothes that Jane and the others were wearing in Tarzan didn't fit that era of England in the period of the setting, which is supposed to have ties with Frozen despite the two movies not being, you guessed it, not in the same time period. Disney has literally never been historically accurate if you look into some of their movies.
@@gamechanger0158 Well, yeah, they don't always keep things historically accurate, but the thing is, with those it was so much more subtle, and for the most part didn't affect the plots in any way. Besides, it's possible the makers of those films didn't really know those things. But with this, it's just so blatant and forced, and worse, it's there to answer the question of how the hey Olaf knows about summer, when they could have just as easily come up with a different way that made so much more sense! And they likely KNEW viewfinders didn't exist back then, but decided to throw it at us anyway because "it's Frozen; anything goes!" So in short, it was very poorly done here.
@@gamechanger0158 Tarzan doesn’t actually have ties with frozen, that was a dumb internet meme But yeah F2 actually references the brand new invention of photography (in black and white) so it is weird, I guess it’s a tiny painting, who knows.
You ever notice that's what Frozen 2 did throughout to distract from its TERRIBLE storytelling? They stuffed baby animals in at every turn. When the Fifth Spirit is being discussed (which ultimately made little to no sense), they tried to make all the kids go "AWWW!" at the sleepy baby reindeer being petted. Make no mistake, baby animals can be cute, but they don't make a story better in terms of plot. Adults OR kids who like a well-told story will see through it.
@@thunderbird1921 That's not what Frozen 2 did. It made sense for reindeer to be there because the natives are reindeer herders and when Elsa pets it it's not the focus of that scene. The conversation with Honeymaren is. Speaking of which, what's your problem with the explanation? The 5th spirit makes perfect sense as the bridge in that world.
At this point, Disney has accepted that "Frozen" has recently failed as a brand, and so this short just seemed like something Disney made out of spite.
Not just spite. More childish malice than anything. *YOU'RE GONNA LOVE FROZEN ALL OVER AGAIN, DAMMIT.* No, Disney. In fact, I hate it even more now than I did back then! I was willing to give Frozen a chance, mellow out a bit from my late teenage hatred of the movie's omnipresence because it seemed to finally fade out of the public consciousness enough for me to watch it, but then Olaf's Frozen Adventure and this seemed to be like, "Nope!"
How is frozen a failure as a brand? As someone who enjoys the films, despite their flaws, the idea this franchise is doing poorly in any sense is just not true. The films make billions, the merchandise still sells like crazy, and, based off the trending page, kids still watch it a lot on disney plus. I guess critically it has dropped somewhat, but, nowhere near the level most would call terrible. Again, you don’t have to like the films, that doesn’t make the franchise a failure though.
@@justanotherguy2609 What I meant was how despite "Frozen 2" doing extremely well, its popularity was nowhere near that of the first film. The "Frozen" craze had kinda fizzled out by the time "Frozen 2" came out. Didn't help matters when "Olaf's Frozen Adventure" caused society to finally have it up to here with "Frozen".
@@supermariof0521 I’ll definitely agree olafs frozen adventure was a mistake, as putting a 22 minute short before a film is a terrible idea, regardless of the subject, but, I don’t think it’s hurt the franchise. @@justanotherguy2609 To be honest, I thought "Olaf's Frozen Adventure" was a decent little Christmas special, that unfortunately was released in the worst possible way.
I like how this guy doesn't blindly like Disney's crappy movies and shorts because "It's Disney! Disney makes the best franchises! They can do no wrong!"
Funny thing is, Frozen actually released several tie-in comics about 2-3 years ago. I discovered it only a few weeks ago, and...it had a more interesting story in about 10 minutes than Frozen 2 and the shorts did in over 2 hours (the story was about Elsa having to deal with a NASTY farmer-herder dispute, and later deteriorating relations with a nearby kingdom, both REALLY testing her leadership). Plus, it wasn't a musical at all, just pure storytelling. Disney is in a HUGE mess if some comic writer can outwrite their flagship animated films.
Thunderbird 1 their comics have actually always been really top notch. check out some of their donald duck stuff if you haven’t! some of the most interesting stories i’ve ever come across are in there.
Gonna be honest, I thought this wasn’t too bad when I was stumbling around on Disney+. Honestly my favorite moment was when Olaf got blown up by the sled. I don’t care about Frozen continuity or whatever, so I liked this because it was just a neat lil distraction.
I thought the short was really cute, and it was entertaining and funny. I don’t know how it ruined the continuity of Frozen but I think it’s harsh to call it terrible. It’s a nice little distraction, like you said.
I watched the video to figure out why it “ruined the continuity”, and apparently it’s because Olaf said he’s always wanted a nose and that “oh the other noses don’t count?” But.. they don’t? The reason why he didn’t keep the other ones was because they sucked and wouldn’t actually be a good nose? Lol
Out of topic, the 2013 Mickey Mouse short _Get A Horse_ is an awesome but sweet homage of the 1920s cartoons in style with a combination of 3D animation that connected each other as the film progressed. This is a lot more entertaining than those _Frozen_ shorts.
Have you seen the 2013 Mickey Mouse TV series? Each episode is around fifteen minutes featuring like 3 five minute shorts. They're super cool too! The series features tons of different cultures, it genuinely made me laugh out loud in some places, and there are really cool homages to previous Disney films. My point is, _Frozen_ has become a cash cow, everyone should go watch the Mickey shorts instead.
i think a lot of people are just to used to that happening, disney always has a way of pushing their other stuff into other properties they’ve made, same happened back when i was a kid and i’d watch lion king and love scar as a general villain and then i’d pick up Hercules to watch and find them put a scar looking lion pelt on him in one moment, but from how it sounds their trying to do that but lazier.

Olaf's Frozen Adventure is truly the worst short Disney has ever made, and the fact they had the gall to air it before a Pixar film just speaks volumes of how little they truly cared about it.
Maybe not the worst short, but one of... I mean they could've aired it on one of their networks ABC, Freeform, Disney Channel, which ever. But no let's put it in theaters to remind them that Frozen is alive and well.

The one thing that really pisses me off is that Disney always does something that just drastically changes the tone of a scene when the movie is vastly improved if they didn't do anything at all to change that moment. Disney also never uses concepts to their full potential, they always make everything tame and bullshitty. For example: In Frozen 2, a tsunami was about to hit the city Arendelle, and Elsa suddenly freezes the tsunami before it hits Arendelle. Frozen 2 was about learning from past mistakes and destroying what caused that mistake, and starting over on a blank slate to correct the mistakes you made, right? The whole plot was about that. Arendelle, as a city, was a representation of the sin that Anna and Elsa's ancestors caused to those Forest people. The tsunami should've wiped out that city, then a montage happens showing Anna and the gang, along with her people (Arendelle's people was evacuated before the tsunami hit) rebuilding the city on a much grander scale. Then the final stone is placed, Sven and Olaf make a joke, the camera zooms out showing the new Arendelle. Movie ends. Disney, man. I hate them so much.
@@JuanmalignoYou're right. It is Genie they're trying to recreate. I don't call them "Genies" though, because he was naturally set into Aladdin and worked. Frozen is just over done. This is why older Disney movies become more iconic over the years because they don’t keep holding on to the film for dear life. Older Disney let the films do their job, and the popularity from viewers did the rest. What's so tragic is thinking about what Frozen COULD have been. Think about it: Elsa could have been the hero princess/queen for kids with disabilities or born with conditions. This movie could have been a POWERFUL commentary on how society treats those who aren't born "normally". Imagine if when Elsa flees the ball, this happened: Duke of Wesselton: Monster, MONSTER! Elsa (screaming in emotional agony from years of mistreatment): I AM NOT A MONSTER! I AM A HUMAN BEING! Whatever happened to POWERFUL themes and deep conversations in movies? Pixar did it with Toy Story and TS2. It feels like in the last 10-15 years, storytelling has been thrown by the wayside.

It could have been painted, though I'm really mad about this. Disney should have done more research, like even computers existed in Frozen's era!
Yeah, they pretty much didn't really try that much with this short.
And they likely KNEW viewfinders didn't exist back then, but decided to throw it at us anyway because "it's Frozen; anything goes!"

It does look cute, but it also gives me PTSD from TLOZ: Twilight Princess.
I watched the video to figure out why it “ruined the continuity”, and apparently it’s because Olaf said he’s always wanted a nose and that “oh the other noses don’t count?” But.. they don’t? Olaf's Frozen Adventure is truly the worst short Disney has ever made, and the fact they had the gall to air it before a Pixar film just speaks volumes of how little they truly cared about it.
@Winifred Eghrudje Ironic since the short was so HATED in Mexico that it was taken off future screenings of Coco.
Maybe not the worst short, but one of... I mean they could've aired it on one of their networks ABC, Freeform, Disney Channel, which ever. But no let's put it in theaters to remind them that Frozen is alive and well.

Frozen Fever might have been worse. That song is one of the dumbest ever, and the plot is really stupid. I would smash every copy of it with a hammer. Someone made a parody of it though that is BRILLIANT: ua-cam.com/video/mKjuT7_mTRY/v-deo.html.

Andrew Rannells as Olaf?
Considering his resume with such roles like Harley (Pokémon), Noah (Yu-Gi-Oh!), Decoe, Mr. Stewart and Bokkun (Sonic X), Connor (Cubix Robots for Everyone), Albert and Fried Ricer (Fighting Foodons), Chief Bookem, Rick and eNeMeE (Kirby Right Back At Ya), D’Artagnan (Dinosaur King) and even James in the Pokémon Live stage musical, I could KINDA see that, especially if he’s a knockoff of Olaf in one of those 4Kids-dubbed Video Brinquedo plagiarisms.

same here man, the early lion king franchise was my whole childhood, i would watch them all the time, i remember rewatching the first movie, the second, 1/2 over and over and then watching the heck outta the tv show based around timon and pumba :)
@@MaskedKittyYT and this might be a controversial statement, but I liked 1 1/2 more than 2.
@@LizardOfOz69
oh trust me dude that’s the least controversial lion king opinion somebody could carry,
legit there’s a youtuber out there that hates lion king 1 because simba is a dumb kid at the beginning instead of having that development he gets later from the start but their fav movie is beauty and the beast, which is literally a person falling in love with their captor when you think about it, then again lion king was general based on hamlet so idk there, but i enjoy beauty and the beast too, so idk there man.
and i personally don’t mind in terms of what people’s personal preferences are for movies as long as they don’t knock me for mine, i mainly enjoy the first one but lion king 1/2 is a fun and enjoyable movie in my opinion too, and this might not even matter in terms of my comment but tbh i don’t fully understand why they’d remake the original lion king anyway considering it was already a classic, i feel they should take older properties that maybe didn’t do so well and make them better, at least in terms of Disney movie standards, you know?
they just seemed less expressive when it came to the remake, which is mostly cgi anyways so idk why they couldn’t make them emote a bit more,
sorry to ramble a bit there though i came back from surgery and my good god these meds are making me think about a lot in terms of this stuff, but also really fucking me over spelling wise man, i’ve rewrote things in this comment multiple times because for some reason i kept spelling them wrong, thank god for eventual auto correct though.
there’s always been interesting quirks involving Disney when you really think about it though, like did you know they actually had a smaller team working on lion king because they assumed it would fail compared to pocahontas.
@@MaskedKittyYT honestly, the reason I thought it was controversial was because I see everyone's reviews and opinions on 2 holding it as "one of the few times the direct to video movies didn't suck" and then I see reviews for 1 1/2 and it's "eh, it's good enough" like they imply that it's a technically good movie but they've been impressed more by other movies in the lineup that didn't suck, like 2.
And maybe *this* will be controversial, but to me The Lion King 2 is a bore to sit through. Unlike hamlet, which you have to search for adaptations of, Romeo and Juliet is EVERYWHERE.
@@LizardOfOz69
yeah i can understand that, i’m not generally a full fan of 2, i enjoy it here and there but i would personally put 1/2 over 2 tbh, mostly because of the same reason you stated and because i’m not the biggest fan of love stories, i mostly watched it due to be being apart of the lion king when i was a kid and after that because there are characters i find general interesting in design alone along with being interested with the lore of why so many lions would be against simba and all.
and i dunno if me saying this would sound bad but i put the original above all of them really, it was my first disney movie so maybe i’m biased in regards to it that way but it always will hold a place in my heart.
also i hate to be rude or anything by cutting the convo a bit short for now but i can feel the meds i took for pain from my surgery about to make me go unconscious, i’m mainly saying because i don’t want to come off like i’m ignoring any comments you make, i’ll likely be way more awake tomorrow (midday for me generally when i take meds like this) so if you still wanna talk about this i’ll likely reply then when i’ll hopefully more awake from this.
hopefully you have a goodnight though dude.

Frozen is undeniably the most overrated Disney film that had to be distributed.

@@jclkaytwo Fair enough.
Olaf was a mistake from the beginning. Disney needs to quit forcing a "Mushu" into every animated feature. Not every movie needs a comic character.
Its actually forcing a "genie" mushu came after but robert williams set the tone for the rest of Disneys animation
The one thing that really pisses me off is that Disney always does something that just drastically changes the tone of a scene when the movie is vastly improved if they didn't do anything at all to change that moment.
Disney also never uses concepts to their full potential, they always make everything tame and bullshitty.
For example:
In Frozen 2, a tsunami was about to hit the city Arendelle, and Elsa suddenly freezes the tsunami before it hits Arendelle.
I use "Mushu" because he was the second earliest example of a character that was out of place and distracting from the film he was in. (It's too much complication phrase it as "Victor, Hugo, and Laverne")
@@Sweetestsadist Don't compare this walking mound of ice cream to the Genie. That's an insult to a much funnier and better character.

Guess the producers never watched it or forgot this short exist, i won't be surprised if it's the case U-U
You might as well make a movie about how a baby came to be born! It can't be done!
Frozen is just over done. This is why older Disney movies become more iconic over the years because they don’t keep holding on to the film for dear life. Older Disney let the films do their job, and the popularity from viewers did the rest. When you force popularity upon viewers and year after year you throw billions of merchandise people will get sick of it.
There was no reason for a second movie. There was no reason for this short. I really hope Frozen will stay frozen in time and just die out and give the us some breathing room.
I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon. When something makes money, companies tend to exploit them to the point of absurdity, if not beyond that point. It's sad how money has become more important than quality. Why has that happened?
@@artbytesia I am in the same boat with you, I do not thing this will happen any time soon, but I will still voice out my opinions. Disney was always a little shady in some parts, but was more true and magical in terms of their films years back. Now its really all for the money more than ever. They are forcing out ideas and that is why the films are not as iconic, are not as magical. I am working to become a filmmaker and director. I hope to fix little patches in the filming industry that I believe lost its magic from. I want to make sure also that 2D animation and physical film, CDS, cassettes and VHS does not die out. @@ameliawilder28 You and I have so much in common! I want to make films and bring back hand-drawn animation as well!
You are right about your last point too; they're pretty much killing the goose that laid the golden eggs!
What's so tragic is thinking about what Frozen COULD have been. Think about it: Elsa could have been the hero princess/queen for kids with disabilities or born with conditions. This movie could have been a POWERFUL commentary on how society treats those who aren't born "normally". Imagine if when Elsa flees the ball, this happened:
Duke of Wesselton: Monster, MONSTER!
As a lover of Golden Age films, I've noticed a big difference between them and modern films (including Disney): The newer films try to "touch your heart". The Golden Age films try and often do touch your SOUL.
@@thunderbird1921 Yeah, that's one of the main reasons I don't like Let It Go. Because of that song, we've gone from a film like you described to this pitiful excuse for Disney (and children's) entertainment.
