Honestly...tour Belize, head back to Veracruz and take the ship to Columbia. You can't drive through the Darien Gap anyway...so I'd add time to S. American leg, and not risk countries that could pose a risk to your safety! :D Just my $0.02 cents!!!

Don't forget to pre-apply for your permit to bring taco into Belize. You can find the form online, and then you mail it in (I think). We misunderstood this and got a $50 usd fine for this. Oh and we had some friends that had a RHD and they shipped from Belize.

Good luck. If it was me I'd tour Guatemala, then El Salvador then head to Honduras and come back into Guatemala from Honduras and back to Belize. It would be that much extra driving.

Have you thought about loading Vanda on a truck to get through Costa Rica to Panama? Should be able to arrange something to go from Managua to David? There must be plenty of trucks along there?
That's definitely an option but as we will need to ship the car from Panama to Colombia anyway, it is just a costly exercise to see Panama, which is a country we are happy to miss.
Overland Way 🙁 that's too bad, Panama is an awesome country - places like Boquete, and Chicá are amazing (20 degrees all the time!) lots of great beaches, the Caribbean side from Portobello, Isla Grande and all the tiny villages on the way to San Blas - which is crazy (google image search it!) (Colon gets a bad wrap, and not a place to visit, but a quick visit during the day to Manzanillo terminal to ship Vanda out wouldn't be bad). I've been in the port there many times and everyone is always helpful. I'd go back to Panama tomorrow if I could! (And some day will for good!)
We don't mean it as in we wouldn't visit it, but unfortunately with all this extra effort required just to see the one country it is just too much. Maybe another time we will fly to Panama City and explore it but for now it won't be possible, unfortunately =/
