San Francisco before tech. There was an artsy vibe and apartments were $800. I remember working at San Francisco center and the pay was $9.75 + commission. There was still a homeless problem with aggressive panhandlers asking and yelling for money. The current homeless and crime problems are sadly out of control. San Francisco is still a beautiful unique city. Thank you for the video and the memories.
I lived in SF right at this time and in fact saw myself in a tiny clip of this vid. I remember 2000 as being the height of tech in the city and the bust came a year and a half later. This was also the year housing was so competitive because everyone was moving up from San Jose. People stood in lines down the block for every open house apartment showing competing with other renters for the same unit- also because of the tech boom.
I'm from NYC and it's interesting to see how other U.S. cities were like back then. It seems like we lost the simplicity and rawness of life all those years back.
I miss my old middle school Herbert Hoover. Sitting in my algebra class staring out the window to see the ocean past the hills. The scent of pine and sea air during lunch as the boys hooped it up. Catching the 44 bus home after stopping by the chinese bakery for a hot dog sweet bun. I want to cry when i think of these times. I left my heart there and my dreams never let me forget it.
I swear I saw a short clip of myself @1:13 caught by whomever took the vid! I lived here in July 2000 and was in my early 20’s. I was out and about all the time on the streets exploring because I’ve never seen such a phenomenal city in my life up to that point. How I miss it. But I miss the SF I knew in July 2000. Today’s SF is so markedly different and not in a good way. I don’t think I could live there again in the condition the city is in now.
The streets of San Francisco looks so different and I've been to the same area many times in my life. I was born in 2000 as well like some of the other comments. I've been through the same streets a couple weeks back. It's not the same. Very noticeable amount of garbage on the streets, and a lot of feces and strong scent of ammonia in the down town district where you've filmed. Also, the homeless problem was much less noticable in your video. I hope one day the city will be clean and friendly again, so we can be proud to be San Franciscian.
Wow, well I'm glad that I was able to show you what the city used to look like. I remember having a great trip and felt very safe everywhere I went. The street musicians were so cool too. I hope it gets better, and I know I'm definitely due another visit when travel gets better too.
I'm a 2000s kid born and raised right next to SF too. SF used to be a great place growing up and taking public transportation weekly to Chinatown with my grandmother. Nowadays, the city has turned for the worse with the amount of needles and feces everywhere. Hate crimes have gone way up too against Asians with the elderly being primarily targeted in the streets or on public transportation.
I remember this and I was only 5 years old!!!! But my family would take me here every summer! Grew up to work at the Marriott, watched the area deteriorate. So sad what SF has become. This was one my favorite areas. We would park at the parking garage across from Metreon. Good old days, and it wasn’t even that long ago. At least I like to believe it’s not.
This was really nice to watch. Made me sad though. Grew up in SF. Some of the neighborhoods have their vibe still. But mostly the city I grew up to know and love doesn’t exist anymore 😔
Nice. I was a young guy living in SF at that time, used to hit downtown often for one thing or another. It was fun and nice, good for all ages. Now I avoid those areas at all costs.
Wow! Pac Bell park must have just opened. I live 2-3 hours away from san francisco, and grew up obsessed with baseball and the giants (still am today) I never got to explore as much of this city as I would have liked back in these day., despite visiting more than a few times per year to watch baseball. Thanks for the video.
I was here visiting California to see the sights and visiting my uncle with my family they had a huge comedy show concert at Golden Gate Park they had the x games at the wharf it was so epic Travis pastrana from our hometown Annapolis won motocross event was amazing best time I ever had in my life
oh jeez! in the year 2000 I was 9! I will be 31 tomorrow. I first went to San Francisco last year for my 30th. Awesome place! good food and vibes. Interesting to meet people from both extremes-either super rude or super friendly-idk so weird. lol. Great place nonetheless. I cant wait to go again!!!!
I was working at CompUsa just down the street from Virgin Records! Things were so different back then. Sure as hell didn't smell like sewage back then like it does now..
I only have vague images in my mind of commercial areas of San Francisco my first time there in '67 as a 7 yo., then 72, which are memories. RV camped on the Bay front in Sausalito with my daughter for her requested graduation present in '08. It's tragic what has happened to SF. ABSOLUTE mirror image of the PAntifapocalypstandia Wheelerchair Wreck. You get what you voted for. Living rural to that hell hole disaster, I've only gone there once in last 7 years, only by dire need. It was dangerous, squalid filth. Used to go all the time for enjoyment and fun 😝
LOL. SF has always been Democratic. The current state of SF is directly related to the influx of rich people buying up all the property and driving up rents making it near impossible for common people to live there.

Thanks for watching! I'm overdue a visit to that beautiful city and see the changes. It's been too long.
Have you been to the city lately? It's one big mess now.
@@Deflow91 I haven't been there since 2006 or 07.
Mayor Lee killed this city. He was the guy who brought in Tech.

A much cleaner, friendlier San Francisco :)
Thanks for the upload. I was last in San Fran in 2001 - good memories.
Thanks for watching! I haven't been there in like 15 years. I'm definitely due another visit.

As foreigner. This is the America i imagine and want to visit. Not the current version
Good ole days 2000 was a crazy year
Johnny's out there somewhere with Lisa and Mark, before the world betrayed him.

I'm doing my first little video essay and I`m searching for footage of San Fran in the early 2000s, can I use this if I credit you?
Sure go ahead. Thanks! Send a link when you're done. I'd love to see it!
I miss this San Francisco
What a gorgeous city. I remember visiting as a kid. Magical.
Now, a dystopian hellscape.

Yep lol, San Francisco people are great. Always a good time. I'd love to go back there soon. Also, happy birthday!
I turned 11 in July of 2000 I remember this clearly.
@@panicfilms Thanks love!
@@enolamsamoht Oh sweet! youre only 2 years older than me! did you live in san Francisco at the time?
The super rude people are the ones that moved there just for the 6 figure paycheck.
Was anyone else looking for themselves or friends/family?

Back then, there used to be this couple who'd be decked out entirely in silver or gold outfits and body makeup to match.
I really believe I was walking through there that day
this is san francisco at its prime
I’m born in 2004 so I’m happy that I’m a 2000s baby. 😌
Wow , less cars
I was born in this month across the Bay in Martinez

SF best city in USA 🇺🇸:)
Such a beautiful city!
It simply has gone democratic. The results thereof
LOL. SF has always been Democratic. The current state of SF is directly related to the influx of rich people buying up all the property and driving up rents making it near impossible for common people to live there.
