  • The most requested video in the comments: Fisherman’s Wharf, is one of the city's biggest tourist traps . Souvenir shops and stalls selling crab and clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls used to be all over as do postcard views of the bay, Golden Gate and Alcatraz .But in recent years street conditions are eroding all the boutiques and eateries and visitors are met with rows of shuttered stores and boarded-up restaurants
In this video, I am walking at the heart of fisherman’s wharf , and I have to warn you, It’s not easy to watch . brace yourself for another eye-opening video.

Comparing Detroit to San Francisco, is like comparing apples to oranges.
      San Francisco will be back.

The loss of Alioto's and Fisherman's Grotto is an absolute travesty. San Franscisco has lost an important part of its history and culture. These are famous restaurants that served the elite. He is cherry picking. A lot of restaurants opened up / moved a few blocks south to North Beach, which is more lively than it was pre-pandemic. Also some places he claimed are "closed" are not closed, they just weren't open at whatever time he chose to film, for instance at 6:50 "this one also recently closed" no, that is Surisan, and it is very much still open (hence all the tables and chairs lol).

@@HazeOfWhearyWater Yeah, a lot of these businesses in Fisherman's Wharf, which exclusively rely on tourism because it's peak tourist trap that has zero appeal to locals, closed down a couple years ago during the height of the pandemic when tourism dropped to nothing. North Beach on the other hand is next door, appeals to both locals and tourists, and has had a ton of new activity over just the past couple years with tons of new bars, restaurants, shops, etc. opening up. For tourists there's also Pier 39, again right next door, which is overall a pretty vibrant tourist trap still.

Right behind the Tech industry (which is also leaving San Francisco) much of the city's income is derived from tourism, and one of its prime tourist attractions has always been Fisherman's Wharf. I wonder how many tourists from all over the world saved their money for a trip to San Francisco, only to be greeted by homeless drug addicts, disgusting and dangerous sidewalks, and shuttered businesses and attractions. @@cl13991399 I lived in the SF Bay Area for 20 years. Real estate prices don't say anything when the median cost for a dumpy home in the Bay Area now costs $1.5 million and SF lacks the culture that world class cities have. You're not getting $1.5 million worth of home, you've been ripped off, because you're not getting the living experience other much better cities offer. San Jose is larger than SF and it's the most boring and congested area to live. San Francisco is in equal size to Pittsburgh, has two sports teams/stadiums, both have hills, etc. while neither have metro that provide public transportation and the urban experience. The hills of San Francisco are not a selling point to locals, but tourists enjoy seeing them. They're bad for car engines that have to drive on them often and no fun for anyone to walk when all dressed up with dress shoes on. San Francisco museums only have classic and modern art, but Manhattan, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland (even Worcester, MA) have impressive and the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities, Mediveal art and armor/weapons collections, Japanese Shogun armor/swords, European paintings from the Renaissance to 20th, to modern, etc. San Francisco and the whole West Coast serve the worst pizza I've ever had and I'm happy to be back on the East Coast where I travel the tri-state area and enjoy the best pizza in the US. The Jersey shores are beautiful with nice big waves and water that is enjoyable to swim/wade in unlike the freezing cold Pacific with bottlenecks for all the heavy traffic to the beach taking two hours each direction. All of the cities have leftist weirdos but SF has the weirdest of all so that's a large reason hy you're being ripped off for buying a $1.5 million dumpy home and have to listen to these people and can't put an American flag sticker on your car because they'll scratch it off and damage the paint if they don't key your car instead.

Fisherman's Grotto was a treat for us when i was a child, as were Tarantino's, Castagnola's, and Alioto's. Crab cioppino, mussels and linguini, fettucine alle vongole. This one really hit me in the feels. At Tarantino's they knew our family, and gave us special service, always the best. In the 1950s and 1960s there was an old Italian man on the wharf with a hand-cranked penny-rolling machine and you could choose to have him roll your penny with am image of the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, the 1939 Treasure Island World's Fair, or the Lord's Prayer. Every night he lifted the machine into the back of his pick-up truck and took it home, and every morning he was there again. Through an odd set of circumstances, after he retired and another man bought the machine, i ended up owning it, and later i sold it to an antique penny machine collector. Goodbye forever, Fisherman's Wharf.

I was stationed in Alameda from 1990-1993 and used to come back to SF every 2-3 years on vacation. It was the jewel city of our country, this I have no doubt. There was homelessness and drugs, but it was relatively safe as long as you had common sense. And it was fairly clean (compared to the present day). This city was a huge playground for people that wanted to have fun, adventure was just around the next corner, and my appreciation for great food started in the City. My last trip, in 2019, I stayed in Union square at a nice boutique style hotel, but had day trips outside the city the whole week (Monterey, Carmel, Yosemite, etc) because i didnt want to have to deal with this new reality that is SF. I'm not sure if I'll ever return. That is sad and it breaks my heart.
The downfall and utter decay of this once beautiful city is a crime and the people responsible for its transformation should be punished.

I worked at that Tower Tours 30 years ago. The owner was bent over and "assaulted" by a homeless man of very dark complection in a park nearby. The woman, who was white, young and very tiny, had to get tested for hiv for years. She had to take mood medication after that experience. She was never the same. SF has always been full of stuff like that. I lived there for 1983 to 2003. Lots of elegance. Lots of depravity.

Yes, SF has always been shady AF. I live in Florida now, people do not realize what it's like to have to walk with pepperspray and a knife tucked in your boot in case you walk down the wrong block. Left officially in 2008

I first arrived to San Francisco in 1979, at 18 on my way to Travis AFB. I'd go down there and walk the whole city, go to the forts, hang out at the beaches, eat at all the diners, Crivelli's Oyster Bar at The Cannery. It was vibrant. Last visit was about 8 or so years ago. Still a great place. Now with the tolerance of crime and vagrancy nobody wants to be in business there. Like a lot of places run by extreme leftists. Very sad.

We were stationed at Travis from 1980-85. We used to go to San Francisco to beat the heat. It was always 30-40° cooler there and China Town had the best Chinese food I ever ate.

I'd launch in Marin or Mare Island and sail some rough water or camp out at Bodega Bay. Could do a lot on $420 a month in those days. I was in the AR shop - 60th FMS. Then to Ramstein for 2 years. I used to live off Francisco St on a little dead end called Brett Hart Terrace. Rented a lovely home for $4K a month with a two car garage back in 2009. The view of the SF bay on Russian Hill was simply marvelous to behold. My wife and I on many an evening walked to Fishermen’s Wharf to dine at these establishments now
    “G O N E N OW”. How sad.
Thanks Metal Leo for reporting the news. Since they locked up Julian Assange, your my next favorite journalist. Using an IPhone is brilliant journalism, pictures or video don’t lie.
In SF, all those trees on the streets if not watered regularly by government workers none would survive. For 3 months that summer in 2009 I lived in Russian Hill SF it never rained, I was told that was normal.
I was told to read a non-fiction book on why, Cadillac Desert. I did, fascinating read on why for millennia for near 6 months every summer in Cali it rarely rains yet the massive Redwoods thrive in this wild unchanging climate.
    Metal Leo rock on!
