Nothing says 80s more than the rhythm and keyboard parts with emphasis on the upbeats and those rests on beat four. It gives that lingering, trailing off into the darkness feeling that characterized the the 80’s so well. “Junior high school Ronald Reagan space shuttle Cold War what will happen next” lol) “the shadows are on the ground!” This song could never have been written in another era. Impossible. Lol. And unless you lived through the 80s, you may not have memories and the full feelings the song invokes. (Or perhaps you can feel it.) But if you lived through the 80s you feel it at a gut level. .🤣
