This is a great way to play around with various techniques and colors. Also such a wonderful reason and end result of not only helping others but maybe giving them a bit of a smile with something unique. The way that pair of purple socks almost look like stars with the elastic white still showing is a way to think about what won't get dyed in a product and use that to an advantage.
I agree, if you wanted to just experiment washcloths would be a great way to go. They took the dye really well! I don't mind the flecks of white in the socks either - I think it works. I figured that if I was putting something practical in the boxes, it might as well be unique! These boxes are going to Guatemala and so I hope the children there love them.
I love these. I have one pair of purple socks that I made for myself amd a set of washcloths that were old and stained. They turned out great! Love all of your designs as well!! Great tutorial!
Never would have thought of washcloths! The liquid dye looks so much more vibrant. Why? Was it the color choices? I would love to try this someday with handtowels. Thank you for the wonderful video.
I thought they would be fun to add to the Christmas boxes. I tried to choose bright colors. The washcloths took the dye so well and they ended up nice and vibrant. Costco sells washcloths, hand towels and bath towels. They are very thick and nice too. They take a lot of dye, but it's worth it. I dyed these this summer to put in Christmas boxes for children in Guatemala. Today a group from our church is heading to Guatemala to help distribute the boxes that we sent down this summer.
You're welcome. Cotton socks can be kind of difficult to find. Dharma sells Bamboo socks which dye up nicely. I've also purchased women's and girl's Tulip brand socks from either Michael's or online and they dye really well too.
I love why you are doing these items, Angie, so very thoughtful of you. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much!
I am embarrassed to admit that my life is incomplete without these sox and wash clothes.
I like the pink & orange socks the best, because they remind me of this passionfruit sherbet that I love to eat in the summer.
That's great - thank you! 🙂

They are fancy napkins.
