The dedicated Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends 3-pack from Hasbro's Marvel Legends is finally in existence... but does it stick the landing? - Комедії
you know its gonna be a good day when you see a new retroblasting video about spider-man
I love knowing that there is at least one other person on this planet able to appreciate the subtle differences in Spidey’s eyes across different eras and artists.
I'm so glad Michael pays attention to these details too. It's what really shows what era the figure should be in/what artist they drew from. I really don't like when close minded people call it "nit-picking" if Hasbro is going for a particular look or era they should use the correct parts and accessories they've already made.
And the lack of a nose is very obvious when you view the profile of the figure!
Ya KNOW theres plenty of em dude. Thats one of the major reasons specific artists had their fans of their particular Spidermans
Agreed. But It's not even subtle.
"I don't know who is behind the wheel at Hasbro, but..."
I am pretty sure at this point Hasbro is going down the highway in an experimental driverless car, the driver in the back seat tweeting "Everything is great! See how awesome we are!" as the vehicle bounces off curbs, blasts through stop signs, and hits random pedestrians every ten to twenty feet. Feels like that sums up the last few years. Great video as always, RB and M! Keep 'em coming!
This must have been the car.

I think most of the budget for this three pack went to the repaint of the dog and they decided toss in whatever they had lying around to complete the set. Classic Hasbro.
This Set Is A Perfect Depiction Of The Phrase “One Step Forward, Two Steps Back”
Wow. Fans can make a better Iceman with the retro carded, an airbrush and some thinned out blue paint. Glad I passed on this.
Why Hasbro, whose massive budget and a stockpile of designers, can not hit the mark with a release like this boggles the mind. Thank you, Michael, for putting together why this launch did not work succinctly. Maybe Hasbro will listen this time?
Michael asked, and Hasbro delivered... the coldest delivery pizza thanks to a 2 liter of soda being put on top of it, and the hottest salad thanks to the pizza being on top of the salad.
Hasblow and Has-beens!!!!
And the pizza was burnt, and delivered upside down. It was also the wrong soda and the salad is missing dressing.
“Pizza time”.
It's not that bad if you keep telling yourself that maybe the three-pack did have a cartoon accurate Spidey and Ice Man but some evildoer just did a switcheroo with the figures he got due to the closed box! 😂
Your description of the body for Iceman was perfect.
Another great review.
More like Ice Pre-teen Boy
If they would've just given Bobby his iconic smiling face, I probably would've been in on this set. Also, a maskless Angelica head and full body fire effect would have really sold it! They just miss the most simple things!
I think Hasbro now has something against the female figures having bosoms or showing any amount of bare chest or cleavage. That's why they didn't go animation accurate with Firestar.
Michael stop bullying the mega Corporation! They're doing the best and they need those bucks for their yachts
This was one of my favorite cartoons
Of all times !!! “Spider man and his amazing friends…. Iceman and firestar!!” (Then that awesome intro music plays)
Yep, it's one of my early childhood favorites, too. Maybe even THE earliest, since it started in 1981, before stuff like He-Man and the original G.I. Joe miniseries.
I was really interested in picking up this three pack when it was first announced but after the figures came out I’m really glad I didn’t waste my money
You’re 100 percent on point with your criticism of this box set. Although it hits my nostalgia button hard, I’ll stick with Retro Spider-Man and Iceman, as well as Hasbro Pulse Firestar.
I fully agree with you on this pack. I was so excited and pre ordered it but couldn't stop thinking about how bad Ice-Man is going to look, so I canceled. Maybe one day we will get a real representation of my favorite Spider-Man cartoon
What a shame they didn't get this right, was looking forward to buying this set!
“Christian Bale From The Machinist” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Agree. I was hoping that they were going to be Amazing, but I will stick with the 3 figures that I agree with you to stand for the characters. Thank you for the review.
Thanks to your videos and a few others, I am pretty much done with re doos of figs I already have. Unless I'm army building I've pretty much stopped buying repetitive characters...keep up the great content...
The best looking Ice-Man still remain the Secret Wars one for me.
The cell shading on Iceman almost looks okay in the medium shots where Michael is in frame. Almost.
That Ice-Man's face reminds me more of Dare-Devil than Ice-Man. I think 3.75 inch retro version got the closest. The same goes for the recent 3.75 retro Firestar figure. Both 3.75 retro figures are closer to looking like the Saturday morning cartoon characters.
Iceman KIND of looks like Silver Surfer in the long shots.
So collectors are put off by visible joint pins because they stand out so much, but wouldn't that Spider-Man's empty arm holes from the web-pits kinda cancel out whatever aesthetic advantage pinless joints might have (in their minds)? 🧐
If you want an ice slide for Iceman, consider getting the upcoming Marvel Select Iceman. He comes with what looks like a very promising ice slide. I'm definitely getting one.
Good call on the Christian Bale reference for IceMan. It's totally valid.
Had this three-pack a while now. I'm quite happy with it overall. Firestar's collar not withstanding.
I'm pretty sure Iceman's head is a re-use as well - it appears to be the same sculpt as the previous retro-carded Iceman that Michael highlighted - just on a different (re-used) body. Still - I love it. It scratches that Saturday morning cartoon itch for me Now, if they'd just give me the res of Excalibur (Nightcrawler and Rachel Summers as Phoenix), I'd be a happy man.
Thanks for the review - I truly appreciate your effort. It is "amazing" that the Spidey-eyes mean so much to people - me included. It is for me, the most important feature of the portrait and if it isn't what I want, I have no issues passing on the product.
The apparent pretension "build it and they will buy it" flies directly in opposition of value for money which is an edict in the rulebook for collectors. I do not collect bath toys.
TY Retroblasting! You really did your homework.
it's like whoever is running hasbro is a person that went to business school immediately after being born then right to work at hasbro after that and has never had any free time ever or social interactions
At this point, it's best to approach any Hasbro product with the lowest expectations possible.
It’s really sad still that Hasbro still can’t make/create a decent Six inch Spiderman action figure. I really thought they would at least knock something good or great out the park. Moving forward still Hasbro falls flat. Great review RetroBlasting thank you for your honesty over the years and You rock!!!
Yes, but no one has yet explained how they ended up with Spider-Woman's dog!
A real ''Monkey's Paw'' moment.
Now all we need is a SWAAARM! SWAAAARM figure.
The retro carded Ben Reilly Spider-man has a head that works better on that body as it has the proper red and eyes that are the same as the retro wave figures John Romita head.
yup, I suspect the bean counters at the top are just saying "cut costs and charge more! " like usual. great review. Been waiting to see this.
I'm just happy they did a 3 pack !
I think YOU'VE got the right classic face. Well done, sir.
Agree on what you said. I see Iceman could also be with a new body mold with hard angle chisel cut of sculpts which could also be use for GOTG Martinex and Marauders' Prism. Spider-Man cartoons was really based off on John Romita Sr. Art style. Muscular but not Captain America build. And Firestar definitely lacks fire fx as well. I see no value for buck in this 3 pack.
Seemed like ice man really did get the cold shoulder.
Thanks for the insight & review on toon spidey Michael, esp on his mask design. Although it's an eyesore, I think I can use the web from amazing fantasy for the arm peg hole (or better, a custom), I quite like spidey with armpit web lol.
I wish Marvel Legends had an Archive Collection equivalent, so they could keep figures like Retro Spidey on shelves and constantly restock them. Also, what’s your opinion on the X-Men Villains pack? I know you probably won’t get it but still
It's such a good figure and deserves to be in more collector's/Spidey fans hands. That first run is so expensive and even then the printing on most Spidey heads doesn't have the lines straight so there's stuff to be added/improved.
@@ArtIsMySin19 exactly!
He looks like Christian Bale from the Machinist! LOL
Great review as always. Thanks for breaking down the pros and cons
Excellent job sir!
Michael like a boss there are many channels but you and analog are my top choices. So many almost nice things .then they fall short and expensive, its been hard to keep up trying to pick what's worthy of my money. Love retroblasting
I think Hasbro does a fine job.
How did Hasbro manage to knacker this up
by doing crack and ice, sniffing the trail of iceman!
I’m happy I saved my money. The combo I managed to get together is Firestar, the retro Iceman, and the retro Toy Biz Spiderman. And I am perfectly fine with that!
I sense customs happening...
The reason you may see a lot of squinty eyed spider-men used to represent the 80s is that starting in the late 70s and into the 80s and 90s you started getting people working on these books who were fans of the ditko stuff and lots of these artists reinserted a lot of these ditko elements into Spider-Man’s design even the large eyes we saw starting in the late 80s can be traced back to ditko as his spider-man varied in design some artists even slimmed him down Ron Frenz comes to mind and is the reason I purchased this figure for myself while I agree it’s not fitting of this set it’s a great representation of Ron Frenz’s portrayal of the character
Ok now I’m finally getting the action figures I wanted from my youth.
It's such a waste I wanted it to be a solid pack because those are some iconic looks for each of the core members. That Spider-Man especially is a let down, they pulled a Raiders Indy again and kept choosing the wrong build/sculpts. That look for Spidey is what a majority of people imagine when thinking of him so it's a real miss and a lazy attempt.
Excellent review 👍🏻
Ah yes -- Hasbro missing the forest for the trees.
Totally agree great video
100% accurate about Spidey's head. The whole world can't seem to make the distinction between Ditko and Romita. BIG difference! Iceman should have a big old grin, yellow eyes, and a more substantial body. He also needs an "ice flow" base making it look like he slid down from the sky on a slide that looks like it's shooting out of his hand. Firestar needs longer hair down her back and that awful collar fixed as well as a clear plastic, articulated stand to make her appear to fly and larger/better whole body sized fire effects. Ms. Lion needs much larger, floppier ears. Finally everything Michael said about Spider-Man is what should've been done. Hasbro strikes again.
7:54 I love this figure so much.
4:55 100% agree! I have never understood either, though those opinions are not about Spider-man and his amazing friends action figure representation.
2:43.... GOD I miss the eighties!!!
While I love this Spidey buck, I do agree its too short for an experienced Spider-Man. He's said to stand at 5'10 in his prime, a taller average height for a male. In AF15 he was about 5'7 since he was just a teen. Hasbro seems to think 5'10 is about as tall as Daniel Radcliffe apparently. They even reused this body AGAIN on the Animated Series Wal-Mart Exclusive Spidey which is absolutely horrible because in the series, Peter is absolutely jacked and looks like he hits the 6'0 mark
I'd give it a "you tried" gold star that's an uneven shape
I agree with all your points. But I bought it because I missed the other Firestar, don't have a Spidey and only have the Retro carded Iceman. Plus I know a guy or two that works for Hasbro (I'm in RI) so I got the employee discount! I'm glad to finally have this set, even though its not perfect.
Thank you. Was trying to decide if I wanted this. I’ve tried for decades to put together a great set.
Oh, my! Poor Iceman got thawed so much that he got thinner. 3 pack Firestar is almost the same, just having a brighter paint job. And Spidey's body looks disproportioned and his dong seems visible @8:46
*Hasbro:* _We want your money, not your respect._
I've never touched Hasbro's *Marvel Legends* and honestly, I'm glad I didn't. Aside from my evolving tastes, I really don't want to pay them for a single figure that could equally buy myself and a friend a decent lunch. The 6" collector market is a minefield I really don't want to set foot on again.
Honestly, the best I've gotten out of Hasbro were the commercial-grade *MCU Phase 1 toys* - particularly when they went 1/16th scale. There's a lot of great figures from that era - the Iron Man 2 comic series alone was a blast - solid sculpts, brilliantly engineered articulation for the scale, good paint and fun accessories.
You contrast this with _Marvel Universe,_ which was marred by design issues and a slight flimsiness, but I'm pleased with my Cable and Apocalypse figures, thought my Original Avengers set leaves something to be desired. I'm curious after seeing your MU _Amazing Friends_ set - did you ever indulge much in that line yourself?
What a shame. Even given obvious the obvious budget driven choice of reusing sculpts for everyone but Firestar, they simply had to stop and look at which previous molds they had that were the best fit. And with no flying fire trail (which would been a simple, but awesome accuracy combined with stand) and the lack of neckline correction on the one resculpt among them (her hair also seems to lack the cartoon highlights but that could just be my ipad not showing definition enough), it strangley makes Miss Lion the big win of the 3-pack, and that ain't good. I'd have been more appreciative of them skipping the trio and finally making a Spider Friends' HQ set.
I’ve officially cancelled my Hasbro toy subscription. Just tired of getting so many near misses with just as many total misses with the rare “nailed it” sprinkled in a 3-5 pack. So much money wasted/re-wasted with repaints and chase releases. Then the price hikes…
I was nervous at first but now I’m all about it. Broke the habit and selling them all on my IG 😂
Always appreciate your sage-like wisdom. If you haven’t heard it today then let me tell you…you were right, Michael. 🤙🏻
I have 3 Marvel Earth's, this gives me my third Firestar, Spider-Man, and Iceman.
I saw a clip from when they revealed this set. They talked at length about Firestar, right paint for ms loin, double joint arms, pinless ect. Then just said “and there’s Spider-Man and Iceman” like they were just there.
When I saw actual product images I knew why. I will say I love that Spider-Man mold for amazing 15/teenager Spider-Man but past that (as he should be in this set) it does not work.
Sorry to leave this question here… love this video though….are u going to do a video on the new dungeons and dragons figures they released for the animated series?
With all of the pieces to do this right already in house, the choices made here are head-scratching to say the least. I can forgive cost-cutting far easier than I can laziness or apathy...
I'm thinking maybe iceman was supposed to be in those xmen VHS retro figure...but they just change their mind about it.
These figures are accessories, Ms. Lion is the real deal
Great review. I remember enjoying the show but, since I was never really into superheroes that much, I viewed it as filler between other shows I enjoyed more. That does NOT mean that I am not interested in the 3 pack. The set just hits the right spot of fun and nostalgia. But again, as with the show, there are other things I am more interested in buying.
You are waaaay to hard on these figures. They are all great. The higher quality you are looking for comes with a higher price.
What i love about realistic real world male anatomy is that the chest torso and hips have NO variation in size ,width or depth, making them interchangeable. Hasbro loves greys anatomy so much its pinned in every cubicle. How great you can take a torso buck from a hasbro figure and rotate in any direction, even upside down, slap some limbs on and its perfect.
To be honest, many super hero comic books and cartoons don't have all that many body type differences between characters, especially when we go back to the 90s and before. Everyone of note in 90s Spider-Man was more or less the same body type as Peter Parker even Doc Ock. Spider-Man being especially lean like the Pizza body is a rather recent addition from the 90s or 00s. Many of the figures Marvel Legends releases as repaints of the same few bodies are guys from the 60s-90s era that look like the artists themselves didn't do more changes than a different hat.
The strange stylization of many faces and the bodies in general is what gets me more, especially the curved shape of the average foot.
Iceman is the one that froze my purchase!
he stopped me cold...
good show.
I like your brutal honesty...
BTW, I just checked the price on this pack, ($75) and definitely it's not worth it.
Half-Assed Hasbro. No Suprises.
If they didn’t blow it, I wouldn’t know what to do
that's a limited edition Stephen King "Thinner" Iceman lol
2 outs 3 ain’t terrible. And Iceman is easily replaced. Maybe DST will make a select Firestar to go with their upcoming Iceman and Spectacular Spider-Man. 🤷🏽♂️
They keep leaving money on the table.
Yeah, the choice of Spidey is confusing and frustrating.
Are you a Ditko fan who wants a post-AF15 Ditko Spidey? Tough shit, you gotta buy his Amazing Friends to get it!
Are a you a Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends fan who wants the main cast in a single one-and-done purchase? Tough shit, you get Ditko Spidey!
I was wondering If I needed this 3 pack but this review has told that nope, I do not.
I like the firestar from this 3 pack better than the original release, but not enough to buy this mess unless it drops in price to match the cost of a single figure.
I was a big fan of the cartoon and after your first video I got the Firestar and Ice-Man figures but I couldn’t find a Spider-Man is stores at the time and I didn’t want to pay $80+ online for one. When I saw this 3-pack I almost bought it just for SM and I was going to decide which FS and IM I liked better and sell the others but ultimately I talked myself out of it and managed to get the newer 90s Retro Spider-Man for $50 (MOC) and now I’m really happy I didn’t get this 3-pack. The X-Men Ice-Man looks so much better and the two Firestars’ are comparable.
Too bad. At the beginning of the Video I thought: A must-have for me. After the video: Not for me. But I still need an ICE-MAN.
Thanks for the review. I'm glad I skipped this purchase. I'm happy with the Amazing Friends I pieced together from the previous releases.
I got this set last October I am not a full on marvel legends collector for me the main complaints are the price 79 pounds very high for what you get. This is only my second marvel legends spiderman so I really liked him .firestar I thought was good the collar didn't really bother me but then we get to iceman or frankingstein on ice this figure really did let this set down. But I guess we'll have to make do because if hasbro made this set screen accurate they would have added another 50 to the already inflated price's.
Lol it's Iceman slightly de thawed hence the smaller stature
Man, I hate the cel shading paintjobs Hasbro have been doing recently in Legends... It completely put me off the recent 90s cartoon X-Men line...
When things aren't going there way they get drunk and make a 3 pack
One day maybe 50 years from now they might get this 3 pack right but I doubt it
It would have taken about as much effort to get this set right as it has to get it wrong
I don’t get the hole no pin thing, they never bothered me
But if I wouldnt have SPIDER-MAN and FIRESTAR, I would buy this box (if it costs under 50$).
