  • Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends is a 1981-1983 American animated television series produced by Marvel Productions, considered to be a crossover series connected to the 1981 Spider-Man series. The show stars already-established Marvel Comics characters Spider-Man and Iceman, plus an original character, Firestar.
As a trio called the Spider-Friends, they fought against various villains of the Marvel Universe.
Originally broadcast on NBC as a Saturday morning cartoon, the series ran first-run original episodes for three seasons, from 1981 to 1983, then aired repeats for an additional two years from 1984 to 1986.
Almost no merchandise and no action figures, this was a cartoon created specifically to sell comic books.

Even though its not the topic of this video, I fondly remember hearing when "Star Trek: The Animated Series" was going to debut on Saturday Mornings. I was a big Trekkie even way back then, and I remember I could hardly sleep wanting to see the first episode so much ^_^

@Noah Partic Particularly two episodes which I wish were made canon: "Yesteryear", where Spock uses the Guardian of Eternity to prevent his death as a child (and we get to see a Sehlat for the first time ^_^), and "The Soft Weapon", which I didn't learn until my college years was based on a story by Larry Niven (of the "Ringworld" series and others).

I loved this show when I was a kid, and I still do today. In fact, when I was about five years old I dressed up as Firestar for Halloween, it was so cool! She was my favorite superhero when I was little and might still be now, I loved how brave, sassy, strong, caring, and beautiful she was and the comedy between the three Spider Friends was always one of my favorite parts of the show. You never get too old to love superheros.

I was a child of the 80's, I know this cartoon is way outdated to most, but at one time this was the only entertainment Marvel had to offer. Before this we had the old Hanna Barbera FANTASTIC FOUR, 60's SPIDER-MAN cartoon and that old marvel cartoon where all the characters were just still and only the mouths moved (for you old heads who remembers that old Ben Grimm cartoon? "THING RING DO YOUR THING!" what crap!!!), DC always had sum type of show on.
When this premiered and the HULK cartoon premiered right afterwards...1 straight hour of Marvel, YOU KIDDING ME!!!, This is what my Saturday mornings were about, my Saturday was not complete until my SPIDEY/HULK hour was over. The best thing about SPIDEY AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS were the guest stars...who was gonna be on there this Saturday X-MEN, SUBMARINER, DR STRANGE, CAPTAIN AMERICA, SHANNA THE SHE DEVIL, SUNFIRE ,THOR,HULK(cameos by) DAREDEVIL, IRON MAN...this show was awesome!
if I am correct the show only ran 24 episodes OVER A 3 YEAR PERIOD, when the re-runs came on you didn't even care you re-watched it, it was always like watching it for the 1st time. When school started on Monday...the Saturday episode was all the guys could talk about.
FUN TIMES :) (kids today will never have memories like that in a tv show, they will never know the feeling of Saturday morning cartoons like us old timers)

So true! I liked the old Merry Marvel shows, the Fantastic Four cartoons and the old Amazing Spider-Man show had that catchy intro. It was Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends that brought in to the world of comics. To be exact, it was the X-men vs Juggernaut episode that did it! Storm and Wolverine! Favorite episode for life!!!

'Spiderman and His Amazing Friends' is a very early TV memory for me - probably one of the first programmes I was allowed to sit and watch by myself when it was shown on BBC1 here in the U.K. in the early 1980s. In fact, it was probably my first introduction to Spiderman as a character!
A year or so later, it got surpassed in my attentions by 'Masters of the Universe' - both the toyline and TV series - and 'Amazing Friends' didn't get repeated (rerun) much if at all, but it did stick in my mind. One for the funky theme tune. But two, because it was straightforwarrd (in a good way), light-weight fun, not like some of the heavier-going superhero fare which would be on the scene by the arrival of the 1990s (and which, to an extent, has never fully gone away).
Just as with the classic 1960's 'Batman' (which has fallen in and out of favour so much over the years that I've lost count, but which personally I adore), it's pleasing to see 'Amazing Friends' has kinda been reassessed and is now held with some regard by many.

Worse still, they faced Morlun - someone so brutal, vicious, savage and powerful that 616-Peter chose to kill him, with no 'darker' heroes egging him on or anything other than life or death at stake. Sending Morlun after the Spider-Friends is roughly like sending Doomsday and Bane after the Super Friends or the Filmation JLA.
However, he did complain about not being able to use the word 'kill' while he was in that universe.

In the UK, Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, was one of only two Marvel cartoons shown in the kids primetime, after school programming, in the 80s, when we only had three TV channels. Only two of which showed kids TV. So everyone watched it. The other cartoon was Spider-Woman. Spiderman and his Amazing Friends holds a special place in the hearts of British Spiderfans.
