Don't actually mind the reef builds, they're good for setting the scene and work well as display stands, they can also be used with a lot of other lego themes especially all the city ocean exploration stuff
Avatar is probably my favorite Lego theme at the moment. Obviously I like the films but they just strike such a perfect balance between a play set and a display set. The side builds double as stands so there's almost no 'wasted' pieces if you want to display the main build like with a lot of other sets. But there's also a lot of figures and playability (swooshable)
I think the reason Spider uses the 1 1/2 legs is that he’s shorter than the Na’vi in the film, shorter than the teenagers who use the 2 legs to make them shorter than the adults with the 3, so maybe he wouldn’t have to use the 1 1/2 legs if there was a 2 1/2 option but Lego probably doesn’t want to open that can of worms
Lego has been with the same figures for decades, I understand that these figures and their shape are iconic to the brand, it was a miracle that they made molds for figures like Darth Maul or the Tusken Raider. But its the last straw that for some things or even weapons they reuse the same mold for years. Look at Mega Construx, I swear they would have done something like the Hunters in the case of the Na'vi and they could have been awesome.
I appreciate all the reef builds for how many new colour/piece combinations we've got. Whilst teal bananas aren't something I in particular was clamouring for, you just know there's someone out there whose build has finally been completed by it.
This. You never know when NPU can make or break a build. I follow a lot of contests that use one specific piece, and I can already envision all sorts of unique and eye-catching ways of using these bananas. Plus, they remind me of Donkey Kong 64, and I'd love a DK line featuring all five Kongs and bananas in their respective colors (DK yellow, Diddy red, Lanky blue, Tiny purple, Chunky green). With LEGO already doing so many Mario sets, we might eventually see Donkey Kong, Legend of Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, etc. Think of how much money they'd make if they came out with highly playable Super Smash Bros themed sets with collectible minifigs.
I think the reef builds/terrain builds in the Avatar sets are super important, a huge part of the movies' impact is how breathtaking Pandora is. If this were any other line they would feel super filler-y but Pandora's ecosystem is too foundational to the IP for the Lego theme to skip.
Just wanted to say that I really appreciate all the work that goes into these full wave reviews! I find it very useful being able to compare sets to each other like this, and your set reviews are always very high quality.

I like the reef builds, I think they add a lot of interest to the sets without being prohibitively part intensive. The builds are all very movie accurate, so sales of these will most likely depend on the movie being a success. I wasn't interested in either of the Avatar movie waves so far, but just watched both recently and am at least a little more interested. If they go on sale then even better for my wallet. Lately Lego seems to be following a policy of releasing at a high price to test interest, then discount 10-20% to help sales so we'll see.

I think all these sets are great looking, especially because of the stands which hugely benefit those who'll just display them, but these should all be like 20% cheaper.
For a theme known for its conflict there's not much RDA personel. LEGO seems to avoid making a ton of humans for these sets and instead of giving Jake a basic LEGO gun they give him a crossbow. Like there's a total of now 3 RDA in both Avatar waves. They're atleast giving us a ton of wildlife and Na'vi. Anyways love the crabsuit and the Mako sub could be a bit better at closing those gaps.
@@GamingMafia_id star wars is acceptable because it's not realistic at all (lasers, etc). As you say, the RDA guys in avatar are essentially modern day military guys.
I actually really like these. For this price I probably won't get them, but they do their job well. I feel like these are pretty well balanced between being playsets and sets for collectors. And you cannot not like the colors of the reef areas
I am actually surprised by your somehow honest opinion on the pricing of those sets. Personally I would love to see more playsets rather then buildable animals, like 75573 we had in a previous wave, but I really like those minifigures and might just get them loose.
7:19 I just find this scene hilarious, cooking a fish on the end of a handgun like this. Overall this wave seems a lot better & more interesting than the 1st wave as I actually want to get the Submarine set & the ilu discovery. That whale is pretty cool though, I might get that at some point. I just like coral reefs better & actually have some other underwater sets that would fit with this environment better like the water dragon from Ninjago, the turtle like Dragon of the East from Monkey Kid, & this oil rig set from Ultra Agents as well as some of my Atlantis sets.
As someone who watched the movie, they really could have gotten a lot more out of it, if they did more of the human ships and such. One of the helicopters or the massive ship would both have been great kits imho, and would allow for some cool figures of the *other* Navis in the movie
id love to see one of those new helicopters that got unceremoniously shot down like three times but looked badass in the 30 seconds of screentime they got
My favorite part of the Avatar line is how unique the sets look. They're incredibly detailed and really stand out in a nice way from my other Lego sets. I love how the nature builds make the world look alien instead of just like Earth nature.
While these sets do have their flaws like you mentioned, as a whole this wave is really strong and I love the use of funky colours. Cant wait to get them all to see the figs in person and build a world!

Wouldn’t be surprised if Lego didn’t produce as many of these sets as other lines. Supply and demand. Low supply for low demand means higher prices
@@thegrimoutlaw4732 I think the chances that Lego messed something up with the accurate implementation of the story and the details are way higher. Same thing with Lego Star Wars. The thing is: Lego doesn't give a shit because the sets will be bought anyway.
Does anyone know why Spider is in the submarine ?? Can´t recall that from the movie.... What I don´t like is that the moulds for the creature-heads have a way duller finish than the brickbuild bodies - weird concept. The reefs I feel are just there to drive the piece count in a cheap way. The prices still remain insane....but there will be discounts....got the tree of souls for 83,99€...and that worked for me but most unlikely for the retailer!
these definitely feel more targeted at fans of the film and an older audience, as a huge avatar fan I'm looking to get all the sets for the collectability and displaybility of it. also at some point down the line those reefs are a great starting point for an avatar lego moc of pandora
You say not a lot of play but tbh the fact that the set has plastic wings instead of cloth or something like that REALLY reminds me of being a kid and how AWESOME these sets would be to play with in the bathtub. I use to always play with my lego in the tub with the Atlantis series. but even though they were from a underwater theme they didnt feel like the really worked in the bathtub. Tbh they were really big/Bulky But these? These look like I would have had lots and lots of fun playing with them
I think the main reason why the sets are so expensive was probably because James Cameron demanded that Lego "go-all-out" when making the sets and the minifig.
I just picked up Payakan the Tulkun & Crabsuit, Ilu Discovery and the Neytiri & Thanator vs. AMP Suit Quaritch for the double VIP point day. Can’t wait to build these.
The fact that the only set that is close to being reasonably priced is an exclusive shows to me that lego doesn't actually expect customers to buy at full price.
I don't know why but the Minifig really looks like Fake Lego. But the leg and the hand can be use as Mr. fantastic if lego release Fantastic 4 minifigure.
well said Tiago! I really like the reef home and totally would have played with that as a kid, but yeah, they are all super pricey. Will be buying some as soon as they go on sale!
Great video - I enjoy this “full wave” review format, and that you edit them to be relatively short and snappy! I’d be interested to see how well sets in a wave work together, rather than just a comparison between them. For instance, do the sets offer greater play value when bought together, or do they establish any “system within a system” features? Would also be great to see any creative ideas from you to reuse the pieces in an alternate build, if you have time!
The biggest difference between Lego when I was a kid and Lego now seems to be that back then, the sets were unique themes that were all about encouraging your own creativity and play, but now, they're all heavily pre-designed sellout franchise themes that just encourages you to simulate whatever pop culture franchise they're based on. A really sad development.
The Payakan set is easily my favorite and will be a day ine purchase for me. I absolutely love the creature and it's design in the film and I love that we're finally getting a LEGO whale, even if it's an alien whale. The crabsuit is also a nice build and a cool design. I'll also be getting the Ilu set at some point as it's also a great little set and I love the creature too. Despite the high prices of the theme, I'm really impressed with the theme on the whole and I'll probably end up getting all of the sets eventually.
One important thing I feel necessary to note is that more than 80% of the avatar fan base right now are adults, and I really do believe that is reflected in the designs and prices. It is exactly accurate, and has stands to be presented. It also for the most part lacks Play features. And all of this is because it is targeting the older market
Me getting a notification from Tiago thinking it was an R34 review. Not disappointed but I didn't expect this :D (still please give us the R34 everyone is dying for it)

Maybe a deleted scene?
@@thegrimoutlaw4732 I think the chances that Lego messed something up with the accurate implementation of the story and the details are way higher. Same thing with Lego Star Wars.
The thing is: Lego doesn't give a shit because the sets will be bought anyway.
I am loving these full wave reveiws!
I swear my biggest pet peeve with lego is when space ships or aquatic vehicles aren’t properly sealed
RIGHT?!
Can never afford these kits, so I'm glad to see them completely in this video. Keep it up man!
More to come!
4:20 I’m pretty sure they were used as a ninjago weapon in 2012 before they were used on horses in the 2013 castle sets
4:40 It's because he's a child, lmao
He’s normal age just the navi are very tall
The arms and legs of the tall avatar characters are a re-use of Lego's old Toy Story 1, 2 and 3 molds used on Woodie and Jessie respectively.
These are actually pretty beautiful kits.
these definitely feel more targeted at fans of the film and an older audience, as a huge avatar fan I'm looking to get all the sets for the collectability and displaybility of it. also at some point down the line those reefs are a great starting point for an avatar lego moc of pandora
Tbh they were really big/Bulky
But these? These look like I would have had lots and lots of fun playing with them
Thank you for reviewing it. Havent even watched the movie but the sets look great!
I think the main reason why the sets are so expensive was probably because James Cameron demanded that Lego "go-all-out" when making the sets and the minifig.
If Payakan ever goes on sale for like 10-15 dollars off I might get it. It's one of my favorites in the entire Avatar theme.
Imagine they combined all the extra reef structures into a separate build, displaying a wall of coral or a school of fish...
I don't know why but the Minifig really looks like Fake Lego. But the leg and the hand can be use as Mr. fantastic if lego release Fantastic 4 minifigure.
ahaha kinda do indeed :P
this is such a good video and you are so good at what youre doing 👍🏻👍🏻
Really love the full wave reviews keep them coming ❤️
Im loving this new series review format
well said Tiago! I really like the reef home and totally would have played with that as a kid, but yeah, they are all super pricey. Will be buying some as soon as they go on sale!
It’s not the pieces that matter, it’s THE BUILD
One of thoses sets have the perfect wings to make a Mothra.
I don't really look for play walue in these more pricier ones it is clearly for display
I hope they make new sets when Avatar 3 comes out in 2024
Nice!!! I like it! You're a lucky guy! ))))😃😍🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
this line is just a fever dream, they don't look good but they are sure random
en general en ambas oleadas hay 4 vehiculos rda podria ser peor
These are pretty fantastic sets!
Is there more avatar sets coming later this year? Or will it be every two years there's two waves? Every two years due to the next Avatar releases
I hope we get more but idk. Let’s see how successful the sets are
The Payakan set is easily my favorite and will be a day ine purchase for me.
Paiokan being huge makes sense, its bigger than all the structures in the movie
One important thing I feel necessary to note is that more than 80% of the avatar fan base right now are adults, and I really do believe that is reflected in the designs and prices. It is exactly accurate, and has stands to be presented. It also for the most part lacks Play features. And all of this is because it is targeting the older market
Was really hoping all these would connect somehow to make a giant display like the first wave! Still gonna get them all love this movie.
Me getting a notification from Tiago thinking it was an R34 review.
Not disappointed but I didn't expect this :D
(still please give us the R34 everyone is dying for it)
Awesome review! Love when you go in depth on sets and show all the details! Keep up the phenomenal work!
these sets would be nice displaying in an aquarium
7:45 You gave Neytiri a Metacayina tail
I really like these. Might have to grab some extras for the future.
