  • We take a walk through this interesting The Who album, even though Sutter usually only listens to the first few songs.

The Who is my pal's favorite band. I also like them quite a bit. I liked the parody ads. Charles Atlas was a world famous body builder, and his ads on the back of comic books and such of the 1950s and 1960s were famous in their own right, with Charles claiming he'd make a man out of a 98 pound weakling. Charles Atlas is also referenced in the Rocky Horror Picture Show musical. The comment about "Silas Stingy" sounding like a Christmas song reminded me about the section in the long version of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly, where there's a part of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" played during the organ solo. Another fine video!

I still remember the arguments I had with my old dad in the 60s when he would hear me playing the Who and ask, :Who is this ?" ...and I would say, "The Who." The looks of confusion on the face of his generation are still indelible! Love your stuff, Sutter and Dad!

My favorite Who album! Such a beautiful gem and a fantastic tribute to the British Pirate Radio stations of the 60s. Keep listening because Sunrise is one of their most beautiful songs.

This one is getting some spins at home right now, so I'm sure he'll keep finding the later tracks.

This was not a rock opera, but like "A Quick One" on their 2nd LP it was a step in the direction Pete Townshend went with Tommy and Quadrophenia. Not only was this a stunning work when it was released late in '67, it also remains one of the favorites of the band's fans nearly 6 decades later. Oddly enough, an LA musician named Petra Haden, whose father was noted jazz bassist Charlie Haden, did an entirely a capella version of this album, which I love, and Pete Townshend does too!
