i always thought you had a room that was just filled with records and a chair and when you’d listen to an album you’d sit back in that chair and close your eyes and let the album transport u to another dimension either with a great room ambience or with some sick headphones
For my process personally, I try to go through one listen completely unbias and blind, without taking any notes/scripting anything. Usually it's just me listening straight up to the record with no skewed vision or trying to look at it "professionally." Afterwards, I'll go back through and cherry pick bits and pieces of interest and overall points so I don't ramble on each song for years, and make some loose draft notes on a google document to refer to. I try to avoid anything that might skew my opinion of it going into it: Other reviews, online stuff, comments, etc. I also try my best to look at it as a current album and not compare it to others in the discography of that band/artist. I'm constantly trying to find new music, and I'm working sometimes 6-7-8 hours a day on what I'm doing, sometimes to the detriment of my health. I pull quite a few all nighters working, researching, listening, writing, etc. That's just how I am. Trying to take it very seriously. :) Wrote that before watching the video, so if it's alike I apologize. Cheers all. :)

I’ve been on a journey since last year to listen to more full albums. I’ve been listening mostly to selected albums from the 1970s to the 2000s. I grew up on a lot of music from the 1990s, but I mainly heard the singles. I love listening to full albums because I feel like I get the full message/experience that the artist wants to share. It’s been mind blowing to hear so many GREAT deep cuts that I don’t remember hearing growing up. I’ve listened to about 65 and counting albums since last year. It has really encouraged me as a creative to just creative. The only downside is that I do wonder if I miss something listening to an old album (let’s say “Toni Braxton” by Toni Braxton…1993) 30 years later vs when it first came out. Times were obviously different, so I just wonder if I miss something by listening to the album years later vs when it came out.

Say an album is great but then give it a 4/10 bc Kanye drama
Just actually heard a song for the first time! Thanks for the video
i always thought you had a room that was just filled with records and a chair
and when you’d listen to an album you’d sit back in that chair and close your eyes and let the album transport u to another dimension
either with a great room ambience or with some sick headphones
Wrote that before watching the video, so if it's alike I apologize. Cheers all. :)
Was just sorta hoping for a video where melon sits down and listens to the same album 3 times and takes notes while making minimal expressions but go off I guess
One time I listened to an album called *Deathconsciousness* and it became my favorite album but Melon Boy never reviewed it which made me sad. He reviewed *Giles Corey* and *The Unnatural World* to make up for it, though. We're still friends he let me come over and play Xbox earlier, it was so freaking epic! His mom made us hot pockets, but they were vegan so they weren't that great.
I’m glad Cal cleared it up in the beginning that he listens with his ears. Melon then spoke gibberish for the rest of the video. Good job!
I like to listen to how other people listen to music because it sheds some light onto their own thoughts and creative processes in a way few other things can
I’ve been thinking this forever and was just thinking about it earlier today bless you lord melon
Your process: NOT GOOD!
(Red flannel was a dead giveaway)
the image of anthony walking down the street in anger bc he's listening to little xan for a review is hilarious
Not sure if you've ever taken a look at Afircan Hip Hop, more specifically South African BUT I reckon you should definitely give this years 2 biggest South African Hip Hop projects a listen.
1. Today's Tragedy, Tomorrow's Memory by A-Reece
2.B4Now by Blxckie
Please do consider!!
I doubt he did this process with Vultures
_With your ears._
Daniel Sambar hey man, stop stealing cal’s joke!
Bring back the straw outros, Melon, your audience needs those straws.
You can even make them minimalist metal straws that don't destroy the environment
The red flannel represents the flames of humiliating critique this man NAV is about to endure cause of the wack ass album he just dropped
he somehow got even more generic and shit than reckless lmao
Solisev99 indeed, worst rapper in the game imo
I was so hyped when I saw he dropped and album. The last Nav review was iconic
I listened to an album once. Then I took the iPod back to the shop. Never looked back.
1. Listen to album form independent thoughts
2. Hear people talk about how good/bad it it’s.
3. Listen to it again
4. Give same opinion slightly different.
I'm with Cal on this one...
The ears.. definitely the ears
Why, yes, Anthony. I do listen to an album.
It is called Panorama. And guess what? It has *songs* on it! Who woulda thought? It is by a band. The band's name is La Dispute.
*yellow flannel better be coming soon* 😤
He probably won't review it.
Can’t fucking stand them
0:09 the video got dragged out, Cal already gave the answer
Usually I press play and wait til it’s over
Imagine him writing in his note like: "I would've given this album a higher score but I'll give it 2 scores lower than my initial one just to piss people off"
