Moved down South a few years ago and infrastructure spending seems to be a big issue here. Roads, bridges, and public service jobs are way under funded. Just in my city in last three years there have been several road closures due to accidents caused by poor road conditions, and bridge closures due to disrepair. Also can't keep Police, Fire, or Teachers due to worst pay scale in the nation right now. In what might be a first in the nation the Police and Sheriff's department jointly patrolled the downtown district to deter crime. The reports stated that the funding needs a drastic increase to properly address the drugs, homelessness, and violent crimes just downtown. And we're a tourist based economy. Doesn't look good...

It is on two, immobile rails, and most crossings have the pavement painted with a warning, cross bucks (gates) lights flashing, bells ringing, and the locomotive has horns that can be heard a mile or more away.
Too many people think it looks cool to 'beat the train' as a crossing.

truck drivers check their equipment before leaving on a trip .and someone should check these railroad cars before starting on a trip . we don't have brake men on railroads anymore.

All countries face the risk of another train passing by, while one train deraila

It was lucky that the train was moving so slow, usually when a train derailment happens it is way more serious than that with a lot more damage to both the train and the property surrounding the wreck

This is what happens when you 'deregulate' safety railroad guidelines... and people wonder why this happens.

I tried to warn the railroad, called told them the support beam was rotten and ever time a train car would go across it, it would hit just a little. Two or three months later, big derealment. Some of the cars are still in the ditches. This was in Alabama.

In 1989, my car’s windshield was smashed by a faulty railroad crossing arm that came down with no warning as I was driving across the tracks. I tried to sue, and was met with a fierce team of lawyers for the railroad. I wound up settling for a third of what I should have received, plus brain damage and whiplash. The concussion has had lasting effects to this day.

Those arms still have those problems today because of "safety software." The railroad had to hire two crossing guards to stand at every road crossing acros the city for three years until they could fix their crappy software. And because it was associated with the light rail tracks, I believe the city ended up footing the bill for 3 years of 24/7 overtime for all those flaggers freezing their butts off

That sucks. I'd ask for a retrial but now with the medical records proving the lasting damage it caused you.

I’m guessing he could see the wheels hitting the bump as the track began to fail. Notice how the first axle to hit causes a catastrophic failure. I wonder how many other axles passed over that spot but were cropped out of the video? That would help determine if it was a sudden failure or gradual.
