I like to think that in Remake the devs were like "okay, smart guy, overflow this" and gave Barret a billion tiny attacks for his fight command instead.
If anyone is curious, Vincent's ultimate weapon formula with max kills yields a significantly higher number 255(65535/128 /10)+10 than Barret's formula with max KotR 255(4000000/10000 /16)+1

First you say you need to overflow the integer by getting over 2 billion something damage and then later say that you're only actually doing 262,000 damage, what's the deal with this?
It's not an actual integer, but either a pre-multiplied one or a so-called fixed-point value, they differ in that fixed is the same as a pre-multiplied by factors of two only (which is essentially the same shit as ints, and the difference happens only during a text output or should there be a fixed-to-integer conversion during some mixed-value operations - the reason is the ability to use the existing integer calculation hardware and still be able to do div-then-mul sequences without suffering that much from truncation issues.

I guess it is even more fun. The damage is treated as an (un)signed fixed-point value (hence only 200k-something to overflow, not 2M), while the enemy HP is treated as an integer. Now what happens is the fixed-point value is right-shifted to get rid of one's fractional part (if doing it IEEE-friendly, you should also add back the last bit shifted out), and next is subtracted from the enemy HP value while the next branch is based on the carry flag. If the mentioned shift is arithmetic (that is, one that preserves and copies the MSB), what you get from a damage value with the MSB set is a huge final int with the top bits all set. Subtracting one from any sane value triggers a carry (in fact, both signed and unsigned addition and subtraction work the very same way, so the signed-unsigned question doesn't have any effect here).

Definately would like to see a vid on how to use a save game editor please! Very helpful vid here as well as far as learning how damage overflow works. I only heard about it, never fully knew about it in this much detail till now.
ff8 was the first game i played and i always considered it my fav overall. 26 years later i've finally gave the proper chance to ff7 and, to my disapointment, it doesn't just surpass my expectatives but i think now people usually underestimate how better is ff7 than ff8. at this point i can't understand what happened to ff8. i'm playing the ff7 with all secrets and bonuses. i was thinking of trying the overflow glitch but i ain't gonna master 8 KoRs. it is good to know how it works, though.
At 6:00 why would they do #ofKills/128/16? Why not do this as one division? Are there other types of attacks the use the X/16 calculation and they're just subbing in this kills over 128? I feel like it seems inefficient to do two crunches when one would do, although 128 is a power of 2 maybe that has something to do with it
Did you ever make a video about the save game editor? Thinking about playing around with this game and would be curious to see a tutorial from you. Love watching all these videos!
Fun Fact: the cap in Warframe is 2,147,483,635 or so, just shy of the top you can test this with a rubico (get a combo w/ a crit chance and crit damage riven (ms is nice too), with banshee's sonar (get the augment so all the sonars will ping on ONE target in the simulacrum), a button to spam energy and your sonar ability, and a lot of luck. Also you can do it solo, and it's very easy once you know how to do it and have done it before.
What if you could like junction 3 materia together, and do like- Steal-Quadra-Magic-Steal-As-Well so you would like- steal 5 times. That would be so cool.
Actually, the materia that can hold the most AP is the Underwater materia, which only has 1 level & never masters, so it never stops gaining AP. Stick it in a Triple growth slot, exploit the Item Dupe glitch with Elixirs & farm AP with Magic Pots & Movers for a week or so & you can have as much AP as you need on a single materia (And I think the amount of AP it holds is always visible, unlike mastered materia which hide the amount after mastering it)
I know this is a really old comment but, You can't use Underwater materia for overflow. Underwater materia may be mastered but its ap amount actually isnt registered as an amount in the game. That is why Death doesn't use Underwater. If that were the case he wouldve just told us to no life farm it and use it.
TWO BILLION ONE HUNDRED FORTY SEVEN MILLION FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY THREE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED FORTY SEVEN LMAO loving your channel man. I recently am doing re watch of FF7 because of the remake. I have learned so many things from you senpai

Hey Nestor, I may make some kind of guide for beginners some day. If you're having trouble, you can always go back to previous areas or the overworld and fight to gain some levels and level up some materia. Characters have different base stats, but they don't tend to make too much of a difference. I would choose characters based on your own preference of limits. You're at the place in the game where you can't use Cloud, which can be pretty difficult, but it doesn't last too long.
ALSO if you have the maximum amount of vincent's kills (65535) it should multiply your base power by about 32. i will show mathematical proof in a reply:
I found a few days ago that you could perform something that's maybe a bit similar/related to this regarding HP and materia effects. If you load a large amount of materia with HP -10% effect, the character will drop right down to a max HP of 10. Then when you equip another materia, the game shoots your HP back upto 9999 rather than giving it a negative value. I wonder if this is the same quirk of FFVII coding in action?
am looking on how to get limits of everyone. I have reached the Northern crater where Sephiroth is but I don't want to battle till I have all the Limits. Thank you in advance.
Like clouds is in the gold saocuer in the battle area get enough BP (battle points) to buy it. Yuffie's is in her hometown do the side quest with the tower that five floors and beat the fifth floor. Vicent is found on disc 3 go to the hidden water fall with a gree, black, olden choccabo or the sub. Tifa's is in her house go to the panio and play the notes in a secret order to get it. I don't rember how to get the rest of the limit 4 breaks
Barret's Catastrophe is found in North Corel after saving the town, Cid's Highwind is found in the crashed Gelnika, Red XIII's Cosmo Memory is found in the safe inside the Shinra Mansion and you most definitely have that one because it's required to advance the story.
With a maxed out Barret, or a Vincent whose death penalty has over 28,000 kills, you need a minimum of 4 hero drinks. You can't do the glitch without hero drinks.
I won't say with 100% certainty that increasing the HP on something that doesn't throw up a healing flag doesn't cause a death trigger as I haven't looked at the code, but if you are increasing their HP by the max int value, it would cause a stack overflow on their HP due to it being so high and sending it into the negative which causes it to die.
The game has to hit 2147483648 at some point during its calculation to overflow. The actual value of damage your character has to deal in order for this to happen is 262144. Hope that helps :)
TOO MANY MULTIPLICATIONS ZOMG OVERFLOW! Yeah, that makes sense. I forgot the damage you do might not be the final number. They should include the option to old school completely miscalculate stuff in the remake. That would make it so much more awesome.
4-8 production. I don't know if you are still paying attention to this video and comments but does master summon or master magic in barrets missing score work for over flow? Or do you have to use mastered KOTR?
4-8Productions hey thank you for responding. Im gonna try the overflow glitch with Barret. Now I know to try it before making the master summon material. Another really fast way to defeat Emerald weapon is to use the W item trick to get 99 megalixers use cloud Barrett and Sid with their level 4 limit breaks you can use Barrett anger Max instead of catastrophe and the high wind and Omni Slash give all 3 party members Fury and I load my characters down with a ton of different counter-attack to man counters and just absolutely pummeling with four times cut counter-attacks and Omni Slash and you can destroy him in like 4 or 5 minutes that way
kthug02 Hero Drinks raise your stats by 30% and cap out at 100%, so essentially throwing 4 of them yields the maximum result. And no, it's impossible, I even tried that combined with berserk status, fury status and a critical hit.
kthug02 Well, watch my How To Defeat Ruby WEAPON video to find out how to beat him without even pressing a button on your controller. *SHAMELESS PROMOTION*
@4-8Productions it appears that the reason the damage shows the different letters and such is because when you translate ascii (or if they aren't using ascii it would be translated much the same) to character from damage number, you simply decompose (usually a logarithmic function) each of the place values as a single stand-alone digit and add 48 to it. Upon decomposition of a negative number you can overshot and undershot in predictable ways different characters within character set. You get graphical glitches due to rendering junk. I bet if you find the pixel bounds of the damage textbox you can simply search memory using the data shown to locate where exactly it pulled from. Fun stuff.
Dude its real i just did the overflow glitch with barrett with 7 mastered knights of the round materia omfg the rumor is true holy crap down goes emerald weapon ty death unites us
i remember that putting masterd materia on barrett is treated as zero ap, so i have always added materia thats just a few xp shy if being mastered... i was wrong this whole time?
I don't understand. In order to overflow a 32 bit register, as you said, you need a value greater than 2^32 - 1. So basically, if you are actually doing such amount of damage, its fair to say you are killing the mob. I don't understand why you need to do 262.144 damage then. That fits into a 32bit register.
+Mohao Shingashi Neo-Bahamut has 200,000ap awt mastered level to KoTR's 500,000ap at mastered. So depending on what you are overflowing, yeah you could use Neo-Bahamut.
CampingMIG Materia gains its own type of experience points, AP, in combat, which is multiplied by the growth factor (none, normal, double, triple) of the armor or weapon it's slotted in. Higher levels unlock either more abilities (command and magic materia) or more uses (certain support materia, summon materia). At max level ("mastered"), it spawns ("gives birth to") a brand new level 1, 0 AP version of itself. That can then be mastered for another level 1 materia, and so on and so on until your materia inventory is full. The only exception is Enemy Skill, which doesn't gain AP and doesn't "give birth" even when mastered by having every enemy skill learned.

4-8Productions im always curious about these kinds of glitches, helps me understand abit more how the coding works behind it, im abit of a geek in that regard :D. I may indeed check it out :)
I like how the shot at the start basically says "is[GLITCH]"
Definately would like to see a vid on how to use a save game editor please! Very helpful vid here as well as far as learning how damage overflow works. I only heard about it, never fully knew about it in this much detail till now.
Cant wait for the Overflow materia in the remake
ff8 was the first game i played and i always considered it my fav overall.
Hopefully I could make it to one of your streams good job buddy!
If you used a Master Summon materia on Missing Score, would that not have more AP attached?
Fun Fact:
the cap in Warframe is 2,147,483,635 or so, just shy of the top
you can test this with a rubico (get a combo w/ a crit chance and crit damage riven (ms is nice too), with banshee's sonar (get the augment so all the sonars will ping on ONE target in the simulacrum), a button to spam energy and your sonar ability, and a lot of luck.
Also you can do it solo, and it's very easy once you know how to do it and have done it before.
Ive got a burning question..... do you think cloud gave tifa the same VD she gave me?
What if you could like junction 3 materia together, and do like- Steal-Quadra-Magic-Steal-As-Well so you would like- steal 5 times. That would be so cool.
please, please, please.... make the tutorial of the save editor
YES that materia! It does not max and always gains ap
It unfortunately doesn't work I wish 😅
TWO BILLION ONE HUNDRED FORTY SEVEN MILLION FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY THREE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED FORTY SEVEN
LMAO loving your channel man. I recently am doing re watch of FF7 because of the remake. I have learned so many things from you senpai
Where is the best place to grind killing enemies for Vincent? What place spawns 5 or 6 enemies?
i dont know if it could be posible but... can you do a video on wich party members and materia combinations are the best for each disc? im still in disc one, in the part where you go to cloud's natal town, that is supoosed to be destroyed but it seems like nothing happend and Cloud is crazy, i would appreciate it, or just general tips to farm to be ready for maybe the final boss? thanks!
ALSO
if you have the maximum amount of vincent's kills (65535)
it should multiply your base power by about 32.
i will show mathematical proof in a reply:

I found a few days ago that you could perform something that's maybe a bit similar/related to this regarding HP and materia effects. If you load a large amount of materia with HP -10% effect, the character will drop right down to a max HP of 10. Then when you equip another materia, the game shoots your HP back upto 9999 rather than giving it a negative value. I wonder if this is the same quirk of FFVII coding in action?
can you make a vid about save editors?
i really need the help (btw thanks for all the great vids im replaying the game because of you lol and tfs ff7 abriged lol)
4-8 Productions can you successfully use enemy skill Death Sentence
on emerald weapon?
i found your videos when i was playing the switch port of the og ps1 game. mind telling me if these tricks can work on the switch version?
so you have to deal exactly the 262k amount? What if you go over?
am looking on how to get limits of everyone. I have reached the Northern crater where Sephiroth is but I don't want to battle till I have all the Limits. Thank you in advance.
To get limit level 4 you have to find an item that says learn limit but the item only works if you have all the other limits
Michelle Lim well I don't rember where I got them
Barret's Catastrophe is found in North Corel after saving the town, Cid's Highwind is found in the crashed Gelnika, Red XIII's Cosmo Memory is found in the safe inside the Shinra Mansion and you most definitely have that one because it's required to advance the story.
how do you even get 7 knights of the round materia?
Saw this video years ago, wonder if you ever used the underwater materia for this
Hay, question. Can the overflow glitch be used on safer sephiroth without using hero drinks? And can it be used all enemies in ff6 as well?
With a maxed out Barret, or a Vincent whose death penalty has over 28,000 kills, you need a minimum of 4 hero drinks. You can't do the glitch without hero drinks.
@@lapislazuli9465yes u can😅
I won't say with 100% certainty that increasing the HP on something that doesn't throw up a healing flag doesn't cause a death trigger as I haven't looked at the code, but if you are increasing their HP by the max int value, it would cause a stack overflow on their HP due to it being so high and sending it into the negative which causes it to die.
kinda curious on what it takes to overflow an overflow.....
By far the best FF7 vids on UA-cam, good stuff man. Looking forward to the next one.
I missed something I think... How do you get from 2147483648 being required for an overflow to 262144 damage being enough to confuse the game though?
The game has to hit 2147483648 at some point during its calculation to overflow. The actual value of damage your character has to deal in order for this to happen is 262144. Hope that helps :)
TOO MANY MULTIPLICATIONS ZOMG OVERFLOW! Yeah, that makes sense. I forgot the damage you do might not be the final number. They should include the option to old school completely miscalculate stuff in the remake. That would make it so much more awesome.
@@4-8Productions probably would have been nice to you know, put an example calculation in the video
Does anyone know if you need to have death penalty equipped to start getting kills with Vince for this to count ?
You can also use Underwater Materia instead of maxing Knights of the Round, since AP can grow indefinitely on it.
Actually you can't. For some reason the development team had the foresight to make sure Missing Score always thinks it has 0 AP.
@@rikudaman Hmm I didn't know that. Thanks!
4-8 production. I don't know if you are still paying attention to this video and comments but does master summon or master magic in barrets missing score work for over flow? Or do you have to use mastered KOTR?
Master Materia as well as the Underwater Materia do NOT add damage to the Missing Score, even though the Underwater Materia does have a AP stat.
4-8Productions hey thank you for responding. Im gonna try the overflow glitch with Barret. Now I know to try it before making the master summon material. Another really fast way to defeat Emerald weapon is to use the W item trick to get 99 megalixers use cloud Barrett and Sid with their level 4 limit breaks you can use Barrett anger Max instead of catastrophe and the high wind and Omni Slash give all 3 party members Fury and I load my characters down with a ton of different counter-attack to man counters and just absolutely pummeling with four times cut counter-attacks and Omni Slash and you can destroy him in like 4 or 5 minutes that way
What if barret or vincents attack stat is at 255 and you use 99 hero drinks on them. Could you overflow ruby weapon then?
kthug02 Hero Drinks raise your stats by 30% and cap out at 100%, so essentially throwing 4 of them yields the maximum result.
Fun stuff.
Id be curious if you can overflow Ruby if you hit him right after using Hades, since that temporarily drops his defense stat.
Dude its real i just did the overflow glitch with barrett with 7 mastered knights of the round materia omfg the rumor is true holy crap down goes emerald weapon ty death unites us
So ya u forgot about cloud ive killed both him and ruby with a lil something called omnislash
Teach us how to use a save game editor please!
12 year old me would have gone nuts over this info lol
i remember that putting masterd materia on barrett is treated as zero ap, so i have always added materia thats just a few xp shy if being mastered... i was wrong this whole time?
I don't understand. In order to overflow a 32 bit register, as you said, you need a value greater than 2^32 - 1. So basically, if you are actually doing such amount of damage, its fair to say you are killing the mob. I don't understand why you need to do 262.144 damage then. That fits into a 32bit register.
how to use a save game editor please
I am very interested in the source farming. I assume you have already made a video on this though
Just google something like "FF7 source farming." IIRC, it's a pretty simple method.
Can I use a lv.99 Barett, no max stats, but 8 Neo-Bahamut Mastered Summon Materia instead of KoTR?
+Mohao Shingashi Neo-Bahamut has 200,000ap awt mastered level to KoTR's 500,000ap at mastered. So depending on what you are overflowing, yeah you could use Neo-Bahamut.
+4-8Productions Bitch, please.
4-8 Productions is awesome!
what is the top speed a chocobo can reach? I've gotten them to 176. is this there top speed?
How do you duplicate materia? Its been a while, but I remember there was only KOR materia in the game.
Once you master a materia you automatically get a duplicate of the materia. So if you want 5 KOTR materias you need to master 4 of them.
