The Indonesians had four different adjustments:
1. On attack, they switched front and back positions a lot.
2. They had more attack variations (drop shots) high and low smashes.
3. Bait their opponent to attack. Respond with defensive drives and initiate flat exchange.
4. Target Endo Hiroyuki.
The Japanese had four game plans:
1. Defend and lift.
2. Minimize the number of shots Kevin takes (unless he's at the back).
3. Lengthen rallies.
4. Use the whole court.
Artistry from both sides of the court.
Only Endo and Watanabe can pull this plan off. I remember Liu YC & Li JH tried the same plan and struggled through out the match.

@@WildanKarim7 It's a simple way to summarise it all. But you can see Endo and Watanabe can be beaten by many other pairs despite having solid defence and already a 5-0 run before this meeting. They really study Minions in every detail and found their ways to handle the Minions.

FINALLY, Endo got an All England title after four attempts...!!!! And regardless of the results, this was a thrilling match. Thanks to the 4 players who played such a great match like this. I respect them all!!
Interesting that He won using a Korean style.. Legendary defense mode + go for the counter-attacking opportunities.
I want to point out also the fact that *He was the Key player in the late game* because minions were targeting him hard with increasing success but He managed to hold himself (and keep the few extra points they gathered thanks to the toss choice).
WATANABE Yuta on the other hand was just PERFECT.. fast & explosive but with enough self control to make the unforced errors happen the other side.
*The pair is now playing at a pace (control+speed) that is becoming out of reach for many top pairs.*
Lets hope they can get this kind of form for the Olympics.

@@mr.z6252 I'm not agree, be patient is not the important key, its too hard for them to be patient and we know they are bad in terms of defense and quality of return the ball, so playing rally is not give them advantage...the key is Rotation, Kevin should improve his power and angle at the backcourt, Gideon improve a lot at the front, but kevin backcourt not yet, so they can rotate, and give the same pressure and power to his opponent.

They didn't do that.... Kevin want the shuttle straight to the ground, keep hammering while their defense is strong and their Rackets are waiting down there, and yep the shuttle keep coming back
When Kevin/Marcus down 15-11 they change tactics and utilize the net area more, sometimes they will return it, but sometimes they don't.... That's when the *"Patient"* comes in and walaaaa 15-15
After that Kevin starting to go Fast and Furious tried to beat Watanabe in speed and made the Unforced Error

Watanabe/Endo is the perfect example of 2 players that respect each other on/off the court. Even though Watanabe is younger and stronger than Endo, you can see that he genuinely listens to him and his advice. I have always like Watanabe ever since he started playing for his work ethic and respectfulness on the court. Congrats to the Japanese pair and also to the Minions, they all played their heart out!

Bear in mind Endo and Watanabe not only beat 1 but 3 former AE champions in this tournament in 3 consecutive rounds from QF to SF to F. Ahsan/Setiawan, Sozonov/Ivanov and Sukamuljo/Gideon. Crazy stuff

It was awesome to see Gideon smile at the end of the match. In previous losses, he seemed to be under immense pressure. Still great to see players giving high fives after the match even in this pandemic times.

When team with the best offense vs team with the best defense. I must say, this is one of the best men doubles finals. Hiroyuki Endo is really a fine gentleman. Watanabe is pure gem. Both team put their best effort but the 🇯🇵 is more cunning & determine. Watanabe even play with fire (playing net with Kevin).
Among all, Minions still have all the ability needs to keep being the number 1, but still have to reflects more & improve on contra playing (switching part between front & back). After all, winner is a winner. Congratulations 🇯🇵!

試合の最後のあたりでの、ギデオン、スカムルジョの疲れ切った表情が印象的。得点でリードしても、なぜか覇気がなく疲れ切っている。負けても悔しい表情はなく、全力を出し切ったという穏やかな満足感のようなものを見て取ることができる。

What I really like about the Indo players is that they rarely do lob shots. They dont give chances for the Japanese players to smash and go offense. But on the other hand. Japanese defense were so tight even if they’re in a uncomfortable position. Both teams were great!
At high lvl they only lob after many fail attempts at attacking and they want to switch to defense to preserve energy.
If only the Indos were taller (like the current Rank No. 1 Indian pair), their attacking style would be even more effective.
I do love Kevin/gideon, no matter they lost in this game. They still show good performa.
Always love to watch the minions.
But, tbh it's hurt me so much they lost this time. It's broke my heart💔

Dulu gw sempat rada peseimis kalo Gideon bisa improve dan tak menjadi beban bagi Kevin ketika berhadapan dng Yuta/ Endo. Justru Gideon disini benar2 perfect bagi gw, justru berbanding terbalik Kevin banyak sekali melakukan kesalahan. Andai Kevin bisa lebih tenang di 3 poin terakhir, ya ... sudahlah. Kalian sudah bermain sangat baik kok dan kebetulan lawan masih lebih baik. Semangat !!!
