Maybe my favorite part in that video is even seeing Saiki having the time of her life during the instrumental solo parts. Cause this shows so well why we love this band so much, the absence of any kind of ego.

Forgotten in that epic dual between Misa ana Kanami was the fact that Akane was KICKING ASS!

Epic is the right word. Unfortunately, there is hardly anything like that nowadays. Because for that you need three musicians like Akane, Kanami and Misa together in one band.🙂

I'm glad you mentioned Miku adding body to the sound. She sneaks in earlier than you might think (at 7:00 on your second listen) and when they all join up for the "actual solo" (you know, the one on the record) it is just so satisfying! Full tilt boogie, as we used to say back in the '70s!
Miku is like a very rare and expensive spice . Always provided in appropriate measure to what the recipe or song calls for . Exquisite and delicious and often quite subtle ! ♥️🕊️
I was there and I watch this whole show every so often. I'm right back there in the crowd! (After going to their midnight show the night before, too!) Hopefully all maidiacs around the world will get a chance to see them live in 2024!! (but stop here again on the way please 🙂) That battle was indeed epic!! And as a small factoid, they were trying to do a sound check before they came on but there was so much noise from a neighboring stage (that stopped just a minute or so before the maids started) that they couldn't really hear themselves. They looked like they were kind of sweating it. Also, the crowd size did get bigger and louder as the show went on. Of course, still nowhere near the size they deserve - although it is Lolla. I swore I'd never go there again - then here come the maids. On my birthday. In my area. Sigh...

I got to see the paired songs and the epic conversation between MISA and Mincho in Denver, it was epic!
This was livestream, no editing. Just a producer unfamiliar with Band-Maid trying to figure out which camera person to go to in each instant.
1. The producer didn’t know beforehand how much Misa plays so why show the bassist, right? 2. In the interview before the show, the interviewer raved about Akane, so the producer kept cutting to Akane 3. Miku’s guitar is also beautiful so the producer kept featuring that over Kanami’s
Yep. And 4. Singers are divas - _always_ keep a camera on the singer!
Also, most bands the lead guitar is front and center.
And the call and response is not on the studio version.
During the entire performance, the focus was on Miku as she is the most photogenic of the group (what TV people understand that sells on TV)
Misa is such a bad ass up on stage Her look, her fit, her playing, all top notch
I know! I know! Misa is soloing but the camera is on Akane. Others have complained about this, but Akane has been kicking @$$ the entire time! she broke her stick at 3:00 and replaced it without losing a beat. Never mind that, just listen to how much Akane is doing throughout this piece; she's incredible. I'm not saying that Misa wasn't worth watching, because she's ALWAYS worth watching, just saying that Akane often seems to get overlooked.
On the Netflix pre-show interview, the interviewer was just gushing over Akane's drumming to the point where Akane was near blushing with embarrassment. So maybe the cameraman was focusing on Akane for that reason. I dunno, but for me this makes up for my experience at Detroit where I was standing 3 rows back directly in front of Kanami. It was a small stage, Akane had no room for a riser, and Saiki was blocking my view of Akane about 80% of the show.

That may have been the best bass solo at Lollapalooza 2023.
Commentator in 2017: "They'll never be able to transfer this song (intact) to the stage". What song, pray tell, can they not transfer (intact) from the studio/MV to the live stage? Their limitations on the live stage are those that they set for themselves -- those limits will be few, because they live for the live stage and they are always up to the challenge.

Why do I think of "The Animal" when I see Akane?
The performance is awesome… the video would be, too, if only the cameraman would be quicker to focus on Misa and Kanami when their duel section starts. That’s unfortunate. Still an Epic performance!
No stresses in Japanese. You need to pronounce Akane's name correctly.
There certainly are stresses and pitch-accents in Japanese, if more subtle than in English. What's the "need" for non-Japanese not conversant in Japanese to pronounce Japanese names precisely as native speakers do, if that's what's meant by "correctly"? If the pronunciation is so mangled as to be unintelligible that's one thing, but that's not the case here.
@@otobokegaijin6218 It shows cultural sensitivity and that they care about such things. The Japanese I know try hard to improve their English.
@@ericifune5543 "Cultural sensitivity" goes both ways. In their talk segments during the US tours Miku's and the other band members' English pronunciation didn't sound remotely like a native speaker's. But that's okay, as long as they're more or less intelligible. Nor do we expect Band-Maid to pronounce their name "Band Maid" rather than "Bahndo Maido". You can't expect native or near-native pronunciation from a non-native speaker. Making it a matter of cultural sensitivity is overdoing it, I think.
@@otobokegaijin6218 Outside of Japan they do pronounce it Band Maid. But I'm not going to argue anymore. One should sound at least close. To many times I've heard kawaii pronounced as kowai.
@@ericifune5543 I saw B-M at Knotfest in Tokyo in April, and Miku and Saiki both referred to Slipknot as "Surippu Notto"-they made no effort to pronounce the name "correctly", but we all understood who they were talking about, and they certainly weren't being "culturally insensitive" either. This reacter is in the US speaking in English to what is surely a mostly English-speaking audience-no need to expect native-level Japanese pronunciation from him. We all understand he's talking about the drummer.
I'll be honest, that is a great bass/guitar duel, but I miss the black bass and a duel like Don't you tell Me, where what mattered was not the technical efficiency but the timbre of the sound and the vibe. Music.
If you haven’t seen it try to watch the video of their entire Lalapalooza set… they also play Don’t You Tell me, with the guitar/bass duel as well! (If that’s what you’re referring to, and nit the Studio Coast one, ignore this comment).
@@interstellardave Yes, I saw the entire Lollapalooza concert, but MISA did not have her black bass there, and I am writing among other things about its unique sound, perfected by her over the years.
