I followed this set of videos and was very impressed with how good it worked. This is a really cool project!

I built this antenna for scanner monitoring and its the best receive antenna of any that I own. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. FYI I used 308/308L 31" Stainless steel welding rod.
(PGK of 8 at $10-12 from local weld shop).

I'm glad it was of use. Apparently a lot of people have built them and enjoy them. I've built four plus a version with an antenna at each end of a boom so that I can run two radios off of one mast.

@@kg7tuo999 that is interesting regarding 2 antennas on the same mast. I had thought about doing the same. I have radio listening with a tower facing north and one to the south. but thought about connecting those to one feed point down to my scanner. But thought that may cancel each other out. I need to read up on antenna theory a bit more. What are your thoughts on one feed line fro monitoring only? Will the antenna still radiate? to max my reception from stations in different directions?

Hi, thank you for your video. I did build it and need to know what distance from the ground does it need to stand to have the best coverage signal gain?

I followed your excellent tutorial until you listed the components needed for the project. In particular I'm confused about the gray 90 degree conduit box that you called CPVC. That gray box is a PVC conduit body type LB. CPVC, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, is the type of tubing used for high temperature applications like hot water. There is no CPVC in that gray box.

I am building this for my first antenna. But I am having a hard time finding the stainless steel for the elements, can I use chrome plated nickel instead?

Any metal rod should work but the velocity factor will be different for each type of metal. Measurements should be close but will be slightly different.
You can find the 1/8" stainless rods at welding supply stores in your area but they're expensive compared to what I found online....but online requires larger quantity purchase. I paid about $24 for 8 rods at the local shop and about $28 for 40 rods online....incl shipping (amazon). They are 1/8" 308 stainless TIG welding rods.

When I said "any" metal rod..... I recently built a 2m dipole from barbed wire and another from clear vinyl tubes filled with tap water. BOTH worked so using chrome plated nickel should work as well.
