Antenna from Water !!!!!!!!

I build the second of three "impossible" antennae. The WATER antenna. Consists of two pieces of 1/4" I.D. clear vinyl tubing, 4 plugs for the ends of the tubing, 12ga solid copper pulled from Romex house wire (used to make the probes into the tubes), some scrap wood to support things, TAP WATER, and some RG8X feedline. Question about how to set it up to ID. Do you use your own call sign on the recording, or were you required to get a special call sign for the device? New to fox hunting and would like to try it with students.

    I followed your excellent tutorial until you listed the components needed for the project. In particular I'm confused about the gray 90 degree conduit box that you called CPVC. That gray box is a PVC conduit body type LB. CPVC, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, is the type of tubing used for high temperature applications like hot water. There is no CPVC in that gray box.

    I'm able to program my Baofeng UV-5R successfully. How do I program the Rugged V3 ? I searched it on the CHIRP website and they list it as CLOSED but the "solution" is an image of the radio (.img file that I can File / Open). While i may be an image of the V3, it does not give me the capability to Download or Upload to the V3 (that I can find). Do you have any insight ? Also, how do I see the list of your Archived videos from your channel (I'm operating from the youtube website).

    • @kg7tuo999
      @kg7tuo999 2 роки тому

      You go to my channel and click on videos. None are archived, they're just in the video list. As for the V3, I don't have one so I have no idea how to resolve your issue beyond making sure you have the most current download of CHIRP and a cable that works (many are sold that use a counterfeit chip and newer operating systems can detect and refuse them)

  • @kq6up
    @kq6up 2 роки тому

    Just for clarification purposes. Those are not two antennas (the 2m long, and 70cm short). The parallel part of the antenna is actually a open wire matching stub. The antenna does not radiate there, it is effectively a feedline. Both bands radiate from the long single section rising above the matching stub. It just so happens that 70cm is 3X the fo of 2m, so it is resonant there too. Just a little antenna theory from KQ6UP

    • @kg7tuo999
      @kg7tuo999 2 роки тому

      I've wondered about this myself. It seems to me that it could be either way with the 70cm RF departing from whichever is THE MOST RESONANT. The most resonant element will result in the RF radiating from that point wouldn't it? It doesn't radiate all along a traditional HF dipole for instance. It radiates at the point of resonance. So on these antennae elements, if the long piece is off a bit and the short piece is perfectly cut, wouldn't signal resonate from the shorter one?

    • @kg7tuo999
      @kg7tuo999 2 роки тому

      It's going to depend on the radio. It could also be a cable or cable driver issue but I am assuming you were able to use the cable to download what was in it. If you didn't first download the radio to CHIRP that could be the problem as the program needs that download to them build a file to upload. Every type of radio and even the same type of radio with different firmware needs it's own download to build the upload file. You can't just plug in and try to upload. But I'm assuming that's not the issue.

      I would close all windows in CHIRP and then "download from radio" and see if they are there. If they show up on CHIRP after that but you can't access them on the radio I suspect there is a critical fault in the radio. Just be sure that you are actually looking at the data downloaded from the radio on your CHIRP screen.

      Whatever the radio's lowest power setting is the lowest you can get. You could run the output through a resistive attenuator network, or a commercial attenuator if you really want to lower the output. BUT, what you need is better foxhunting equipment, a directional antenna, a passive or active (offset) attenuator will allow you get close and still get a usable signal strength reading.
