  • This is a short video with modified the plans provided by ve3elb.ham-radi... for use with copper pipe and a Di-electric insulator. The whole cost was under $20 and alot of fun to do.

Works very well. No problem hitting Michigan about 120 miles across Lake Michigan on 2m

time of 5:04 , sir you forgot to put back the black spacer to isolate the SO-239. is it that the center of SO-239 connected to brass? coz you did not mentioned what to connect in the center of SO-239? will please elaborate that portion. tnx 73

      Maria Lourdes
the center is isolated when the SO-239 is attached.

the insulator goes in before the brass fitting, which helps to isolate the SO-239

the black piece is a washer, this is only used to prevent water from leaking from the fitting. no need to use it because it's not being used for water.

Greg, i was looking at the SO-239 leads you took outside of the nut. Did the center go to the element and the shield lead go to the connecting t-connector & nut (Or Vice-Versa)?

Im just working on how the driving element & the copper collar of the isolator is connected to the center coax post of the SO-239

The element went to the center and the shield went to the nut

+jfranke3 Sorry, I missed this. I use a conduit clamp nailed to my rafters in my attic. No problems at all.

Why on earth would one use a SO and PL connector on 70cm (or even on 2m). The connectors are ok up to 100 MHz. I would rather use a BNC or N-Connector. PD0PSX

Because that is what is used. Every 2m I have ever owned or seen, HTs not withstanding, have had a SO-239 on the back of them. This includes every single dual-band 2m/440 mobile as well.
