Thank you so much for this! I took a 10 year break from flight sim, and just started to get back into it last week and decided to adopt the A32NX for my longer flights (C172 and CJ4 for shorter routes.) You made it quite easy to do!
Just wanted to say a very big thank you for all the tutorials you have made they are easy to follow and learn last night I watched your BAE 146 video as I had a few thoughts on the power panel below the gear and after 5 minutes of you explaining that system it all made sense happy flying -Andy2790
The sheer amount of information contained in your videos is fantastic! It is precisely the reason I am into Fly Simulation when it comes to commercial flights. Thanks so much for all the context, extra info, details, precision and accuracy.
Excellent explanation for office chair pilots. Detailed is what we all need. This Simulator is trying to simulate real world flying experiences, ( to a certain extent obviously. Real world flying is very different, I’m sure ), however with the work that Asobo and developers such as FlyByWire have done by careful coding and software, we can indeed simulate real world flying conditions. All of this detail creates a truly immersive experience, to stimulate the mind and excite the imagination. Your input on this channel is invaluable and appreciated by your concise explanations giving us all an understanding of flying the A320. Thank you.
Thank you very much 320 Sim Pilot and all you guys at Fly by Wire. An experimental version of A32NX VNAV works pretty nice (May 2022). When I come close to TOD I use a trick I learned on A320/A319 on X-plane. I just start descent 25nm before TOD. This plane will descend nicely and smoothly respecting all restrictions and come to your final approach altitude right on spot. Bravo guys and Thank You
Really great improvement by the FBW team! I trust they are also working on the "FINAL APP" mode (for RNP-AR approaches with vertical guidance). Looking forward to that.
This is an excellent development and thanks for (another) great video. Earlier today I did a Faro - Lisbon flight and found the decent profile didn't get me down to the ILS platform altitude in time, so now I need to work out whether it's my incorrect handling of the aircraft or a bug in the VNAV implementation! 10 out of 10 to FBW though, the complexities in all of this are amazing, so to get it working the way they have is a real triumph of coding.
Been flying the A320 more lately with the addition of VNAV. All I can say is it's fantastic! Has some issues still but it's absolutely making my descents go much smoother (that and using holds).
The thing about the Airbus, as opposed to Boeing avionics (to my admittedly untrained eye) is they are incredibly user friendly, once the nuance of each mode is understood. I would imagine (as a pilot yourself) that this is part of the appeal of flying them. Very nice video. You have a good way of explaining things so that they are very easily grasped. I'm not a novice by any means, but I think some people who are fully conversant with these things can lack the ability to relay their intricacies to others. You have that skill, sir. Keep up the good work, looking forward to your next stream (I usually tune in haha).
Great overview and no need to apologise for the level of detail or deviations - what your videos bring (for me at least) is the real world context and most of all - the "why". Your experience here matches mine so far - the climb has actually been reliable for a while and the descent gives a start point but is not yet to be relied on - as you say they are doing a brilliant job. One quick Q. - is the coded decel point for auto appr mode at the distance you'd expect? I often find that if I leave it to engage, it's almost impossible to slow down in time and get properly configured. Seems to me like it tries to come steaming in at 250 and then I end up with full airbrakes and drop the gear early which I can't believe is correct...
Thanks Mike, appreciate it! The coded decel point in the real aircraft can be a bit sporty too so this wouldn't be too unrealistic, especially in tailwind/hot/high conditions. However in perfect conditions it should be manageable, I will experiment with it some more and see if it is close to the real thing.
Many thanks for your tutorial, reinforcing what I've discovered on recent flights that suggests FBW will be making lots of tweaks to their calculations over the coming weeks! At the moment it's still a (sometimes) useful guide but it's safest to fly as we were before the VNAV introduction.
Magnificent tutorial, thank you. Clear, concise and explained the context both within and without the current FBW Dev state. This is really useful to us amateurs as so often I find myself pondering the eternal question: "is it me, is it a bug, or does it just do that in the real world?" - this really helps to explain what the current state of development is and it's invaluable. Thank you again 👍
Interesting about the speed limit being hard coded. Australian ATC routinely waives speed restrictions. You haven't lived until you've screamed down to 3000ft at 320kts. I remember Juan Brown had his eyes popping out one day when he said they were cleared to do it in a 777 heading into Sydney. I wonder if the MCP would ignore it? The waivers came about because every 747 (now A380) leaving our shores is loaded to the gills and 250kts was too slow. Then ATC decided they liked it as it gave them more room to separate traffic. So it stuck.
Great channel and great information... sim pilot talks.. I listen, great channel to learn from and entertaining. Great job 👍 keep up the great streams. And thank you.
Great video. A little late to the party because I'm trying to balance hand flying vs. fully automated flying. I find that the balance is needed to enjoy the sim.
Thank you very much, for an other fantastic tutorial. Your way of detailed explanation, makes it really easy to understand. So for me it puts so much joy, and realisme into flying this wonderful airplane. It gives such a satisfaction of being able to handle this wonderful, but complicated airplane 🙂 👍
So in principle I could use managed descent if ATC asks me to be level by a specific waypoint? Then you would just enter the ALT restrictions in the FPLN page and enter managed descent.
As usual al very nice Video. Just on question. At Minute 43:03 you wanna lose altitude and in order to do so you increase the speed. Couldn't you push the EXPED Button?????
Super video and thankyou for such a great guide, explanations and showcase. Soaking up the info. Also is this all working in the Fenix a320 if you have that.
So I´ve been following this guide, even with the same airport and sid, and I get the nice magenta restriction markers on the ND, however, what is missing is the leveling off arrow. I´m sure I am missing something in the MCDU config, but what?
In the Sim, particularly in the descent phase, does entering the wind speeds and directions (from eg Navigraph) at various flight levels have any practical effect on the Vnav performance? Thanks
Totally excellent presntation of the new feature - brilliant, well done! I do look for your videos as my first port of call for explainations of anything to do with the A320. And well done to the FBW team as well. This is a fantastic feature, and I can see how complex it must have been to program.
Funny that this vertical indicator is called "Donut" although there are definitely better names to describe this filled circle :D Thanks for the explanation, it was very beneficial
If i set my cruise alt in the window, will it do the climb without me touching? Also for decent, if I set my alt where I catch ils(3000), will it still follow the star and restrictions?
Attempting to follow this excellent tutorial but for some reason, I have no speeds apparent within the F-PLAN page. I have the exact same LAM5P SID programmed in with all of the Alt Contraints showing correctly, but all of the SPD entries are showing as three dashes. Any thoughts ?
Hello, when I import my sim brief data into the current (as of 20/06/2023) stable version of the FBW A20NX, no speed data is inputted. Is there a way to remedy this issue? I assume the FMC requires speed data? Thankyou!
If anti icing systems affect the managed modes, does that mean you should turn on all these systems as early as you can to let the aircraft factor in your added engine load?
Last night I used the flybywire launcher to update to the lastest experimental, but it didn't seem to work for me. I'm getting no hooks on my display. I then removed the folder manually from community folder and reinstalled again through the launcher and still don't have it. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
@@johnarmstrong3782 can or can’t? They definitely can do DME arcs as I’ve done those loads of times before. You mean draw the path that follows a set distance from the VOR beacon? The LNAV is currently getting worked on as part of the next major update to improve certain procedures
sorry but you missed some importan bits like entering data eg takeoff rwy and landing data (what runway to select) for us noobs who were trying to follow yor every move ,but after 4 min into the vid you are taking off
Head to apexgamingpcs.com/products/a320-sim-pilot for our line of 320 Sim Pilot gaming PC's!
For all that don't know, the VNAV update is 44,000 lines of new code
Thats really impressive. Especially considering the fact that it's completely free!
but only because they recoded the whole fms system, and not just for the vnav functionalty tho.
i would imagine that Airbus and Honeywell keeps a very tight lid on the actual code used in the real airplane
I was waiting for this. No one explains things better than you 💪🏻
I just searched for a VNAV tutorial and I was disappointed that you hadn't made one, but then 30 min later I see this in my home page.
Thanks for watching! It took me a bit of time to put this one together!

The FBW team does such good work.
Love all the extra details/insights that you provide. Keep it up!

Perfect, thanks - bookmarked for study later tonight 👍
Another awesome addition, expertly covered and presented. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and skills.

Great stuff. Love the alphabet DME 'trivia'; been simming with A320s for two decades and have finally worked out that logic!
Thank you so much for this video. Educating and Entertaining!
Getting some popcorn for this one!
That is a good idea! Maybe we will release a feature film one day!

Finally the features that I wait so long for this aircraft to be an actual a320
thanks!! very informative video - appreciate it!! And well done FBW
Grand merci (in french :) ! Great like always, help me so much to understand all topics !
Happy to hear that Philippe, thank you!
When should you engage the approach phase? Do you usually do manually or do you wait for the plane to initiate it itself.

Finally!
LNAV is better in the FBW than in any other Airbus I have tried in other sims. I expect that this will be the case for VNAV as well.
So you haven’t tried the Toliss yet? Never had an issue with it unless the fault is in the SID/STAR coding
@@tomstravels520 Yes. I have all the Toliss planes. But they can do DME arcs and the way they draw the path is simplified and unrealistic.
