      It's not that he didn't like lightsaber combat, it's that he thought it primitive and a crutch for those he thought of as less than himself. He viewed his own mastery of the art solely as a means to humiliate those who believed that it mattered. To Sidious, The Force, and particularly the mastery of its Dark Side, was paramount.

    Perhaps the better question is *_why_* he would have claimed it? He already had his plan in place, and simply didn't want Maul interfering with it. If he had claimed the Dark Saber, he would have had to make a new plan entirely... right? How could the new Sith Lord ruler of Mandalore be explained to the galaxy? How could Palpatine return to his day job, pretend not to be Darth Sidious, and work all this into his plots with the Clone Wars and Order 66?

      They can do far more damage to the Empire than any Rebel forces. Not to mention that given enough planning, resources, timing, and luck; heavily trained Mandalorians could potentially pull off assassination attempts against Vader or Sidious.
      It's no wonder Sidious had to personally snuff them out and not hold anything back.

      In KotOR 1 and 2, the Mandalorians were regarded as a formidable threat to the republic. If it weren’t for Revan bringing the jedi into the Mandalorian wars, the Mandalorians would have defeated the republic. Sidious knew this, and since he didn’t have an army of jedi or sith, there isn’t a doubt in my mind that the Mandalorians would have demolished the empire.

    Sure, at first, Sidious didn't intend for Maul to be be a true apprentice as you mentioned. However, that was when he first brought up the idea to Plagueis. After a while, he did indeed take Maul as his own apprentice. Maul even says to Sidious, when he arrives at Mandalore, "I used your training" implying that Sidious taught Maul more than we were led on to believe in regard to manipulation, as we see Maul take over Mandalore and create his own small criminal empire.

    I Believe the Emperor left the darksaber as a lure to draw out any Mandalorian strong and skilled enough to claim it AND reunite the clans against the empire. I love your point that Sidious knew true power comes from the force, not trinkets. This makes the Episode III duel between him and Yoda just that much more epic. Yoda was strong enough in the force, and knowledgeable enough in it to be able to hold his own against Sidious without a lightsaber.

    I feel, at least partially, that if he did claim the Dark Saber, he would have to reveal his identity as a Sith Lord to the wider galaxy. A reason Palpatine’s plan worked in the end is that he had people like Dooku and Grievous to do his public fights for him. If he did claim the Dark Saber, he would have betrayed everything he had built up until that point

  • @richv1893

    I think the reason Sideous didn't claim the Darksaber is because claiming the deed to ruling Mandalore would unnecessarily expose himself to potential detection from the jedi. Mandalore clearly did not fit with his plans at that point anyway, otherwise he would have had its rulers under his thumb already. As for its value as an artifact, Sideous was likely too preoccupied with capturing and securing Maul to have bothered retrieving his weapons even if he actually had an interest in the Darksaber.

  • @hyperboi4077
    @hyperboi4077 Рік тому +15

    I think it’s just because Sidious already controlled the galaxy at this point. He just needed to carry out his plan to unite the two sides he ruled together. Mandalore, while powerful, can’t compare at all to the republic or Seperatist Alliance. We can already see in Rebels Mandalore couldn’t stand up to the Empire. Sidious would be risking too much by claiming the saber and gaining very little as opposed to what he’s already in control of.

  • @michaelmarcum3898

    The Jedi were still alive at this point. If Sidious took the Dark Saber and control of Mandalore questions that Sidious wouldn't want asked would start being asked. Like how an old man could take control of a planet of warriors when the only way was to defeat the warrior in combat who held the Dark saber in the first place.
    Taking the Dark Saber risked exposing himself for what he was.
    Besides, Sidious didn't need to take control of only one planet. When he executed Order 66 the entire galaxy was his.

    Why Sidious disliked the Darksaber, perhaps for the same reason he felt the Sith outgrown the use of a Lightsaber to begin with, but only using them to continue taunting and mocking the Jedi with the Dark of the Force being their primary weapon. He basically considers all lightsabers to be a Jedi’s weapon.

    Yes and no, distance for a Jedi artifact, and disgust at the notion that he needed to earn anyone's trust are probably at play on some level, but also, have connections with the mandalorians this close to claiming his victory would add an unneeded risk to the game, he just needed to crush any chance of Maul rising in power.

    I agree with the main point of this video, however one thing he said was wrong. Maul wasn't "just" an assassin. Palpatine planned for Maul to be his apprentice for the rest of the war at least. He even stated that it was a tragedy when he was killed, that wasn't part of his plan. Once he "died" he shifted his focus to Anikan because he sensed his potential. Dooku became a place holder for Anikan and temporary replacement for Maul. Maul was originally the one who would storm the temple, and finish the war. Palpatine knew how much potential he had when he started training him, it was great enough that Darth Plagues was worried about it when Palpatine started training Maul.

    The darksaber was kind of beneath sidious. He didn’t need it to control the planet in his grand plan. He sought the entire galaxy. He needed anonymity. The story of the darksaber was an obvious display of strength and the image of a weak old man served his plans better. The whole concept of deciding the ruler by combat was also beneath him. The only two people that could match him would never seek to claim the dark saber anyway.

  • @satmtca

    I think another reason why he hates it is also because it’s a weapon that not only Jedi can use but also those who aren’t force sensitive.
    It’s like playing a game with auto aim on instead of taking aim yourself and Sidious doesn’t like that. I feel like the dark saber is also in some form a conduit the force is flowing through the saber helping those who aren’t as adept with the blade or force in a fight and giving them a helping hand. Another way to look at it is like when Quigon used the force in the dice roll with Watto. He game a light push with the force so it would land on blue and that’s what the dark saber does for those who aren’t force sensitive, helps them just a little in a duel but as for those who use the force they don’t need the assist as long as they’re fighting for what the saber stands for

    Mau was definitely Sidious's true apprentice until his defeat on Naboo and had he won that duel he would have continued as his apprentice. Dooku was never considered a true apprentice despite his strength and power. He was too old and Sidious would have believed the much younger (whole) Maul would have surpassed Dooku within a few more years (probably 5-10) of continued training under Sidious. Of course the appearance of the boy Anakin Skywalker would probably have made Sidious consider Maul surplus to requirements eventually but the point is prior to the appearance of Anakin Maul was Sidious's true apprentice.

    I think claiming rule of Mandalore would complicate Sidious's plans. Sure, he would through the Empire try to later subjugate the world to the point of glassing the planet, but at that time he was still maintaining the guise of a politician to the galaxy-at-large and the Jedi.
    It still amazes me how (and yes, I know this is a fictional story) Sidious was able to go from one hologram as Dark Lord of the Sith and another as Supreme Chancellor of the Republic without seeming suspicious to onlookers. Having to rule Mandalore, even employing a hands-off approach, may have been a variable that Sidious was not wanting to introduce to the already complex equation of the Clone Wars.

    I can accept most of this, but it still doesn't totally explain why he left it there. Not wanting to claim it, and through it rule of Mandalore, is one thing, but the aged collector had found, or confiscated, many relics he had little interest in, or plans to use. The fabled Darksaber could have easily sat in a curio vault, alongside Momin's mask, or holocrons Sidious had already gleaned information from, and done what Palpatine often did; deprive opponents of opportunities to dispute him. He didn't want the weapon? To claim rule over the Mandalorians that way? Fine. He also knew that he'd always have SOME rivals who wanted to beat him, and take his place. Palpatine's strength, or at least one of them, though, was to decide for them who that opponent would be; to force them to fight him on his terms, and insure he'd win. If he knew the legend of the Darksaber, he should have known how difficult it would be for them to rally under any one leader, who might then aim for him, and so take it, just to toss it in a box, and keep others from claiming it. Maybe he already had some plans to glass the planet, and end the millennia old threat of the Mandalorians once and for all, meaning there'd be no one to rally under the saber, but I'd still have taken it, just to make it disappear, and not haunt him later. Since Maul is still on the loss later, anyway, I always hoped he had finally escaped, and took it with him, hoping to someday usurp the Master who had broken him so, and just never got around to it, but it's too bad it was "just there", and Maul "just got it back", to lose it to Sabine, to go to Bo Katan, to Mando, to wherever we're going now.

    The simplest explanation is Palpatine did not care for lightsabers which was already previously explained by other UA-camrs one could argue the saber itself still holds allegiances to either Maul or Palpatine which is why Bo Katan and Mando are not worthy and it is bc Maul was able to excel in his dark side training he was considered halfly a Sith Lord despite being specifically trained as an assassin

    Perhaps Sidious knew claiming it could backfire horribly. If he claimed the darksaber, he would be opening up a way for his empire to be stolen. If he held the darksaber, the Mandalorians would serve him faithfully; however, this would invite challengers. People under the oppressive rule of the empire would raise champions to challenge Sidious. Power hungry warlords would train and seek an opportunity to rule Palpatine's empire. Palpatine would have to accept many of these challenges or risk losing the respect of the Mandalorians.

    I think Sidious just hated the concept of the Darksaber, and found it insulting. In his mind, his rule over a planet, a system, or the entire galaxy were his by right. He was the culmination of the grand plan of the Sith, it was all for him. Some Jedi trinket has no place in determining his rule.

    Maul was his concern not the mandalorians. He might have even enjoyed leaving the dark saber where it could not be claimed by combat. With the chaos that would cause. While it is an oddity it is more of a Jedi artifact then one of the force.

    Their was a huge risk in taking it yes he could have ruled the planet but the saber also brought with it rivals wanting it for their own to take over ruling the planet. All of which screams more risk to himself being exposed as the Sith Lord for the entire galaxy to see he was sensible to know the temptation wasn't worth it in the grand scheme of things and he already controlled most of the galaxy.

    Sidious used force grip, force push twice on each of them, slow fall, and used force lightning force abilities (besides blocking blaster bolts and increased strength and speed) are NOT allowed in trial for the darksaber. Most sith would love the darksaber I think but it goes against everything Sidious believes in (“combat above all else”) and that’s why he hated it.

    Darksaber has one cutting edge that has to be aligned with every slash in order to do damage. Lightsabers cut unilaterally, and as such, over seven combat forms were developed to take advantage of that. The Darksaber is a glorified Vibroblade and is only useful for ruling Mandalore - a Jedi would have no need for it.

    Sidious is a ruler of Mandalore. But this would have awesome to see. But he despise the legacy because of its Jedi origin. This may be the cause also of the The Night of a Thousand Tears

  • @JCatl3y
    @JCatl3y Рік тому

    Also, Sidious simply didn’t have time to rule Mandalore while he was also Supreme Chancellor of the Republic and there would be no point in him ruling Mandalore when he was going to rule the entire galaxy, including Mandalore anyway.

    Some people just dont like things, the yezzey's are expensive as hell but to me they look like clown shoes... revolvers are cool put a pistol is my thing type of situation... and if u dont care about the background of something then even the most valuable object of that lore is just uninteresting and some times annoying when people try to press u about it....
