    The cure is to never see it as power and that is what he never understood about the Jedi and why he feared Qui-Gon Jinn more then most. Qui-Gon Jinn acted as the will of the force and not as the rules itself. He allowed the force to guide his decisions. That is how you get over it but not seeing yourself as having power be seeing that you are just a vessel of the force itself.

      Considering what happened to him, it seems he should have been a bit more cautious at least.
      And really, trusting the force is in itself not necessarily a good idea, the force does not seem to give a damn about individuals or their lives. Oh sure, you get to come back as a force ghost if you were one with it, who is barely able to affect anything, yay.

      @@_Muzolf Maybe that was just the will of the force as he would be needed to train Obi wan and he started Luke's training plus protected him his whole life allow him to train under Yoda and turn his father to bring the chosen one to do what he was intended to. So yeah I think it worked out just fine for him as he saw more then himself. He saw what the living force showed him and he was a very large peace in a great plan to return balance to the galaxy so yeah.

      @@kitfo18 Ultimately that hinges on parts of his life that we did not get to see. I would most certainly not place much faith in the force considering what happened to him and what his legacy was. Its all nice and dandy that the Sith got overthrown by the end, but if you were to ask the people of Alderaan if the particular events that lead up to that point were really worth it, i think they might have a different take on it.

    There's a reason the baneite sith didn't pursue immortality (with Bane as a notable exception to buy time) until Plagius. I’m reading Path of Destruction rn and early in, Bane also draws parallels between the similarities of the Sith and the Republic (led by the Jedi). Bane was critical about how the Jedi protected the Core worlds much more than the Outer rim. The people left out to dry in the Outer Rim were easy recruits for the Brotherhood of Darkness because they had nothing to lose, and the power of the dark side to gain.

      To be fair, there are only couple thousands of Jedi in the whole galaxy. There is simply not enough of them to manage every planet, which varies in size to from big worlds to small worlds which apparently are big as a city (sense of scale in SW is really inconsistent). If every world was as big as Earth, there is no way Jedi can be everyone. They would have to rely on whatever government and police force is in place and they are forbidden to just strongarm everybody Sith style. It's also not like Palpatine's humanocentric Empire did a better job managing mostly alien Outer Rim, which also formed most of Confederacy. :P They mostly pacified them with brutal force and intimidation.

    The wise spot is ironically in the final line of the Jedi Code. There is no death, there is the Force.
    The fear of death, of losing power, would always cripple the Sith. Bane's Rule of Two was so wise because he recognized that death would always come, there would always be an end. The Rule of Two would always bring an end to one, so the remaining Survivor would logically always be the stronger of the two, and so the Sith would always grow in strength while the numbers remained the same.
    It was ultimately Sidious, who disregarded the Rule of Two and decided it ended with him, who caused the downfall of the Sith. He crippled Vader so Vader could never rise and overthrow him, thus locking the Sith in a stagnant state where they would eventually be defeated.

      It was a necessary evil. There was a time when there were more Sith, and they spent more time fighting each other than the Jedi. It was the constant power grab. The Rule of Two ensured that one acknowledged subservience to another, and their power would be gradual and unnoticed. They made the Jedi believe they were dead for years, and used patience the Jedi Order forgot long ago. The self-destructiveness came from the abuse of the Force and a lack of discipline.

    I think the middle ground comes down to a risk-reward mentality. so long as the power you wield can minimize the risks of losing it, it is necessary to push your power and continue to try to expand, if only to further reduce the risks you face. but if the risk of losing what you already have cannot be offset by the power you have, if there is no way to further develop your strength without risking it all on pure chance, then you have hit your limit and it is time to pass on your knowledge and power to someone who can carry it forward

    I think Grand Admiral Thrawn actually understands this middle ground the best. He is prepared to risk when necessary to make bold decisions but he will also retreat such as at the Sluis Van Shipyards in heir to the Empire. But this quote from "The last command" really shows that he does not have the same weakness the Sith and Jedi share. Joruus C'baoth responds to a question by Thrawn asking if he sees the rise of a new empire without Thrawn leading the Empire. (C'Baoth had just tried to take the Chimaera by Force using his jedi powers).
    "I see many possible futures," C'baoth said. "In not all of them do you survive." "An uncertainty faced by all warriors," Thrawn nodded. It would be impossible to see a character like Thrawn hide away looking to protect his power. Even after defeating the new Republic Thrawn would have prepared his new Empire to meet the threat of the Vong and any future threats, fully accepting that defeat is something he will most likely one day taste.

    Yoda said " Train yourself to let go of what you fear to loose." So Yoda knew how to solve the equation, but he was still fearful of what he, and the Jedi Council couldn’t see through the force as a threat. Yoda had no idea that if he couldn’t see what was there, then he should’ve looked at what was not there. What wasn’t there was balance in the force. If so then it would have to have been the "Dark Side" as the sole motivation for the war on both sides. The simple motive & opportunity should’ve led them to the question: why involve the order. A Sith was killed (Maul) there has to be another……….. etc, etc

  • @Redpoppy80

    I'm not convinced this is a common weakness of the Jedi and the Sith, The Jedi were never fearful of being betrayed like the Sith and actively shared their knowledge with others in the hope that others would be better than they were. This is definitely a Sith weakness though and maybe why Sidious was the best, because he overcame that weakness more than any other Sith ever did. Even in his final moments alive, all Sidious thought of was how he was going to get revenge.

  • @ironman44320
    @ironman44320 Рік тому +2

    The implementation and practice of the Rule of Two is the fear of losing power. Having only two Sith lord reduces the chance of a powerful Sith lord being killed by less powerful ones. To ascend to masterhood an apprentice must accumulate enough power to be able to kill their master. The master on the other hand, must constantly seek to become more powerful so as to not be easily killed by their apprentice. To this even masters have almost routinely withheld some secrets and knowledge from their apprentices. To answer your question this actually where the Sith and the Jedi differ. The jedi are not afraid to share their power and eagerly seek to increase their ranks rather than horde power between only the two most powerful. They view themselves as part of the force rather than masters of it as the Sith do. For the most part jedi are able to accept and embrace the limits of their abilities and strength in the Force. Where so many have fallen to the dark side is the lustful desire for more power and ability than they already have.

    Sith fear losing their personal power, while Jedi fear losing power they have over others. Well, with Jedi, they fear chaos and war that could start, if they don't prevent it etc. So it could be called influence, stability of galaxy etc., and not power, but it's type of power. I just watched video about code of original Jedi order, before they divided into Sith and Jedi. There was big focus on one line. There is no fear, there is power. Not being able to follow this philosophy was reason, why Sith and Jedi we know were created and it's make sense, that it's fear of losing power, that is their common weakness. It was what created them.
    Basically, as Original Jedi because involvement in conflict, they started to feel more and more fear, that leads them to fall fully into dark side. Other original Jedi saw it and started fear dark side, so they forbidden it.

    As this reference from the RoTS notes Jedi and Sith fear losing power…which means if they confronted that worlds master of the four elements, due to their ability to cause an element bender to be locked / taken away from them, my deceased friend theorized that if like with that dimensions Firelord when defeated, any Jedi or Sith who dared attack him, not realizing that he has that ability, could be having their force Abilities become locked / inaccessible by challenging them to battle or to foolishly fight him seeing them as an threat , which my deceased friend theorized while highly unlikely, it’s an interesting thought to consider, due to Palpatine leaking that key factoid of Sith/ Jedi hidden weaknesses ( ie. an Hypothetical ATLA crossover scenario ponderence he had thought about as an hypothetical what if scenario)!?!?

    I think what Palpatine said about the Jedi "Every body feels fear of losing power, even a Jedi" is half-true. The Jedi might really feel fear of losing power, but I believe is the power of helping other. If they lose this power, than they cannot help others and serve their purpose. The Sith, on the other hand, fear losing power and being useful for themselves or their own gain.
    The other part on believing in your apprentice, I think you should believe on them and their capacity to follow their own path. If this mean helping you out on their way, than it is better for you, but don't fully rely on this chance, because you still need to keep doing your stuff.

    Your own self-confidence would come into play here. Your confidence has to keep up to the same level of your power. In fact, that is the solution. If you begin to have doubts, this will (in a way) have an adverse effect on your power. Palpatine & Vader are exemplary subjects to, perhaps, prove this. In a novel, I have just "consumed" (freakin' awesome novel!) there was a scene where Vader & "The Old Man" were being attacked by Lyleks, the apex Indigenous predators of Ryloth. They were outnumbered by like 1000:1 (estimate). Trapped in the nest with no way out, Vader stated "We're going to kill them all" and Palps just "cackled" and _they_ did kill them all. To, essentially, anyone else this was a "no win" scenario. Even Vader & Palpatine should have felt even a _hint_ of doubt, but their confidence was so equal to their power that the thought of losing wasn't even considered! Palpatine (at least to my knowledge) never let his confidence drop below his power (plus he was wise to the "weakness") and was technically unstoppable. On the flipside, Obi-wan, on Tatooine, (from that rotten tv series) faced Vader for the first time since the "epic showdown" and he sucked. You can argue that he lapsed in "keeping in shape", but the power was all still there regardless. What was gone almost entirely was his confidence and the effect on his power was blatent and obvious. So, to conclude, I believe confidence _must_ be equal in quantity to the power that you wield. It would take someone with superhuman disapline to maintain this balancing act because a little too much or not quite enough is where yer gonna run N hide like that Skeleton guy in the vid and become useless. \m/

    I havent watched your whole video yet but my theory is that the dark side is ultimately flawed and self defeating by design. You see there is an escalation in their power and evil up until Darth Plagueis who tries to do things different and is killed by his apprentice, who was not as talented or as knowledable as he was. You can see that Palpatines ambition is the ultimate downfall of the sith as ultimate evil is incapable of attaining ultimate power due to its own nature being a cancer of the force or rather a cleansing fire. From my perspective the power of the sith grows when the Jedi or lightsiders themselves become corrupt/degenerate and the sith rise in order to cleanse the corruption but ultimately they burn out as well. That is the nature of the force in that the dark side is just a correcting mechanism and can never be an end in itself. Therefore basically all of Palpatines philosophizing is only useful in the sense that he deludes himself in order to fulfill his own purpose. The Siths goal in and of itself of physical immortality is not possible and is basically the force itself subtly trolling them with a carrot on a stick while the Jedi path to immortality in joining the force itself is the only true path to enlightenment. The dead end of the Dark side is once you attain the ultimate knowledge you realize that you have to turn back on evil/depravity but at that time you are going to get killed by your apprentice who is more evil than you are. Its the analogy from the phantom menace "There's always a bigger fish."

Hord lived roughly during or just after the first thousand years of the true Sith empire; roughly around from 6,000BBY, five or take a century or two either way.. He and Alloysius Kallig both stated to have died “well before 5,600BBY.. Andeddu lived long after him. We don’t exactly know when he lived either, but it was after Hord that is for sure. But either way, Hord is the one who first discovered it in the timeline. But he still fits what you’re saying here regardless; literally sealing himself within his own damn tomb so nobody would “steal his precious scrolls & knowledge” , he was the definition of the fear of losing power.

    This is an all-too human weakness, one shared by every narcissist, despot and billionaire in Earth's history. The fear of death, betrayal and loss haunts even the meekest of us, hence why the Jedi are not immune to it either.
    I think the movies DO show the solution though, and at least six Force users have demonstrated it; Qui Gon, Obi Wan, Yoda, Anakin, Luke and Leia. The one common thing between them? They accepted their "deaths" and ascended to Force Ghosts. They all knew, at least in their reality, "no one is truly gone." That "loss" is not REALLY "loss." It's just change. They embraced the change and their own sacrifice so that future generations could achieve what they could not. Some call it "killing the ego" or "enlightenment." I'm not exactly a "spiritual" person but I do really find the philosophy of such things intriguing in fiction.

  • @LLTactical

    I think the answer is in Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius' life and beliefs and philosphy. He is the shining example of how to wield ultimate power with no apparent weakness. He cared less about things that didn't matter and not wise to worry about - things like the future in which we have no true control. He only cared about what truly matters- the present and also how we react to things happening around us (the only thing we can truly control). These Sith Lords cared too much about what may happen in the future that it negatively impacted them in the present which cut short their potential. Sure, these Sith Lords will die being assassinated by their followers but that is the nature of their culture. They should learn to accept that fact. I'm not saying they should take no action against those who want to kill them, but instead learn to understand the nature of their being/culture in that they will be targeted to be killed and learn accept that fact (what will be will be). In other words, stoicism.

    I've always viewed that Rule of Two as a liability indicative of this fear of losing power. If one follows the Rule of Two to its logical conclusion, it irrefutably and inevitably leads to each successive generation of master and apprentice being weaker than its predecessor because if the ideology is that there is one master to possess the power and one apprentice to crave that power until such a time as the apprentice usurps the master's place, the master is naturally incentivized to withhold a measure of knowledge from the apprentice. This is, in my view, the underlying weakness of the doctrine.
    Of course, it's not as if the Rule of Two was strictly followed.

    Palpatine manipulated the dreams of Anakin over losing his secret wife Padme Amidala. Because the Jedi believe that love leads to darkness in attachments, Palpatine was the only outlet for him to communicate his feeling too. Stating that the Sith had the ability to save his wife and grant immortality, he worked the concerns of Anakin into his cause for power. The want to gain power for saving his wife would led Anakin to fear losing it and lead him to Sidious.

    The fear of losing power is greater in the Sith than it is in the Jedi. Consider this maxim by Darth Sidious: Jedi seek to gain power through understanding. Sith seek understanding through power. If power is the means to understanding, then it logically follows that the loss of power equates to the loss of understanding. A very terrifying thought for most people. But if understanding is the mechanism through which power is obtained, then less understanding will equate to less power. Ironically, it was for this reason that the Jedi order fell. They did not understand their enemy, so they did not have power to fight them. Therefore, they fell. This is why I thank God that He holds all wisdom and power. We can look to His understanding when things don’t make any sense, and trust in His power to always do right.

      @Breakdowns04 Рік тому

      When I refer to God, I am referring to God in the Bible. The creator of heaven and earth, as such the most knowledgeable person about it, and everything in it, including us. If the Bible is true, then it’s characterization of God is true. And we could have an entirely different discussion on the veracity of scripture, but I do believe it to be true, based on good historical and archaeological evidence. Thus, gods, characterization in it is also true. He has said that He is faithful (1 Corinthians 1:9). Regarding the wisdom of God, read Job chapters 38-41. It’s an in-depth examination of the power and knowledge of God in creation.
      Dealing with the Force orders, we’ll start with the Jedi. Assuming that Sidious’s maxim is true, then the line that says, “ There is no ignorance, there is knowledge” essentially self sabotages the Order. This is one of my major criticisms between the old code, and the modern code. Where the old code acknowledges that ignorance exists and knowledge must be pursued, the modern code, denies ignorance, and assumes that knowledge is already had. It is as if the Jedi is expected to go into the broader galaxy, knowing everything. But they cannot, and the code will not allow them to admit that they do not. I think the way they can fix it is by going back to the old code where they acknowledged that life is a journey, full of contradictory ideas but with a greater objective of pursuing truth.
      The Sith operate in a cell contradiction. If understanding comes through power, then that power must be obtained through some level of understanding. It does not come from nowhere. Those are contradictory premises. I think the Sith need a new code to be honest.
