    Jackie Wilson had it all, the moves, the looks, and a superb voice. RIP Jackie.

    Jackie was a great performer. Eddie sang, or tried to sing, this song in Coming to America! I love the song. Always have.

      Didn't Eddie play a Jackie Wilson type in "Dreamgirls" or was it more a James Brown type? Either way he was great.

      @@DanalynTuthill-yl4hd I thought it was a Marvin Gaye type, but I guess you're right. He played an old school type singer. Arrogant, messy and later, drug addicted and yes he was great. Eddie should play more serious roles. He could easily be a great character actor, which a lot of comedians have done.

    Nice! Really nice! A nice uplift after "Luka", as much as I dig that song, it's really sad, while this is joyful in contrast. "Lonely Teardrops" is another of Jackie Wilson's hits. Also check out Van Morrison "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven When You Smile)" for another uplifting bop.

    Sweetie. My mother said he would sing without music and tear it up. Mr. Excitement. Elvis took from him

    About time. I recommended Jackie doing this perhaps 2 years ago. Glad you caught up. Jackie IMO was the greatest R&B'pop vocalist of his era, although he wasn't nearly the most influential. That prize goes to Sam Cooke. Jackie could sing anything from gospel to light opera. What made him truly special was the fact that he was the greatest performer of his era. Anyone that plays with the microphone stand today stole it from Jackie. Jackie was athletic, dynamic, and charismatic. It's sad that he's virtually forgotten today. Try him doing "Lonely Teardrops", "She's Alright", and the studio versions of "Baby Workout", "Doggin' Around", "Danny Boy", and "Night".

      Have to disagree with you about "he wasn't nearly the most influential". Heewas THE Most influential in every way you can imagine. Every artist "borrowed" from Jackie, but no one could touch him. I had seen Jackie perform probably more than anyone..except for his band...and each time was magic. Every major artist would come down to see him perform and all were mesmerized: form Smokie Robinson , James Brown and Elvis Presley.

    • @helgar791
      @helgar791 Рік тому

      @@PutOnASweater Yes, but again, not every singer borrowed from Jackie. Because not every singer could. His stage act yes. His singing, absolutely not. Sam on the other hand influenced every singer that sings pop or R&B today. Every single one has stolen something from his vocal style. Sam and Louis Armstrong are hands down, the most important singers in the history of American popular music...and it isn't close.

      @@helgar791 Sorry, but I don't see it. Same was basically a "crooner". Crooners are not that difficult to impersonate. Jackie's stage act couldn't be duplicated. Many artists copied bits and pieces of his 'dancing" on stage, but could not piece them together. When Jackie performed, his moves seemed effortless, floating on a cloud. When others did them they looked over rehearsed. Just look at Michael Jackson, when he did the same moves, they look so mechanical, Jackie moved like a ;anther, you would think his feet never touched the ground.
      Vocally, he could sing any style of music, whereas Sam stayed within a particular mode. I'm knocking ur opinion, that's what makes music so universal. I do have a Sam Cooke album, I have every record Jackie ever made. I don't know if you've seen this,Jackie and Sam...ua-cam.com/video/dT5RppqL6vw/v-deo.html

      @@PutOnASweater Once again, you're arguing your own point, not mine. So I guess on that you're correct. But once again, no one copied Jackie's singing style because few could. Sam on the other hand was the first to take gospel rhythms and cadences and use them in secular music. He was the first to own the copyright to his own music. He was one of the first black artists to own his own recording label. No, his stage act was nothing much as compared to Jackie's. But in every other way he was an original and the trailblazer, and when it comes to being influential, it ain't close. Because he was the first to use gospel rhythms and cadences every Pop/R&B artist after him to this day has copied something from him. Yes, Jackie was the greater singer and stage performer, and yes, many stole from his stage act. If you see someone play with a microphone stand even today, they're copying Jackie. In fact to me, Jackie was the greatest pop singer of his generation. But nowhere do you hear his singing style, while you can hear something of Sam's in everyone from Whitney to Celine Dion to Dua Lipa and Angelina Jordan. Not to mention Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Adam Levine, and of course, Michael Jackson. Who stole from Jackie's stage act and Sam vocal style.
