Every time anyone talks talking about Asuka combos/strats, my brain stops working. What a cool character!

Dude most of the times iplay fighting games either my mind is hardprogrammed on muscle memory and my braincells are like monke flip
Try him out and you'll get a quick grasp of what he's on about lol. Lord Knight I thought made a good video about the Asuka mindset if it's a character you're considering buying.
I think 6K is gonna be good once people start blocking the overhead card. A multihit low with the threat of a fast overhead seems pretty good.
Multi hitting lows are also killer in strike throw mix, because the second hit is really good at fucking with people's fuzzy jump/back dash/throw tech etc. Basically any auto timed defense is much harder to do with a double hitting low involved. That's a huge part of why gio has such killer strike throw, because 2S exists
this guy has some strong normals, and its really weird for a ranged character
I have virtually no knowledge of fighting game mechanics but I used this video as background noise while trying to sleep and it was quite nice.

What i like to do is change spells or cast the "long time casting" spells in the air like the staff ones, he freezes a bit when you do and most of the time the opponent can't punish properly, its a good way to manage your resources (I play on floor 10/Celestial). Also for the staff spells that change the direction of your cubes, it will actually make the opponent go in that same direction, i get to do like a reverse corner carry to my side some times and its really cool looking
i suck at fgs and i never really tried to get into the fgc because it feels really intimidating, but you’re so calm and fun to watch! I love your personality and videos

Something to note about the half circle forward kick super is it actually refills your mana, so you can use it in a pinch to get your shield back.
I really wish asukas supers recovered his mana like chaos’s recovers bullets and zato’s recovers Eddie gauge.
I think full import is also one of the best spells in test case 1, during combos instead of canceling into bookmark to replace the spell you can cancel into recover mana and still combo and once you're finished you can either cancel the final spell into full import for a full hand or cancel the last normal into it spending less mana and getting more back overall.
You can kinda do the same with it in blockstrings and use it to go ham with better mixups and if it doesn't work out restock with full import.
Finally any counterhit combo where you have the lightening cube you can change test case use another spell or two in the combo and finish with full import to cycle into the new case quickly and then cancel back into test case 1 and hopefully have some useful spells to work with (potentially top decking exodia or other powerful combis without having to commit meter or scramble with the test case if you pull some awkward spells)
Any other Asuka mains struggle with bookmarking where you end up taking spells away that you already have because wrong inputs?

I main Asuka but only on floor 5. Seeing these combos, mixups and utilization of spells is so eye opening. I’m going to model my playstyle off of yours.
5:25 The burst here from the Ram was actually really smart. This Ram seems to know the Asuka MU, she blocked the overhead projectile because she saw you had it on deck and used burst knowing you had no mana to close out the round instead of risking some fullscreen Asuka shenanigans once you got MP back.
I believe after watching you... it would be beneficial to switch back to test case 1 after the exodia attempt. That way you limit the chances of getting crappy cards. You instead will get infinite projectiles
Yeah it’s not just after “the exodia” even after using a test case for too long you might consider changing test case. Like in IRL card games you need to do a bit of “card reading”, you using test case 3 and seeing too many attack cards? Well that means there aren’t many more in the deck, might wanna switch.
I was talking with a couple of other strong asukas and they were thinking exodia -> test case 2 might be the way, I can def see it

If you look at day 3 gobou, the one thing I consistently see is spell cancels into bookmarks. He almost always never has a spell missing vs most other players.
@@GoToBedSheeva Ya that is going to be a basic requirement just to functionally play asuka especially since it is so quick you can do it mid combo. Character needs starcraft apm just to function lol.

Teleport isn't good raw, but is great for combo extensions from midscreen or left-right mixups with the lockdown metrons. TC 3 has the 5 cube metron spells, the slow hovering multihit one, the one that fires in 2 bursts, all of which offer opportunities to teleport while they're in blockstun. I imagine teleporting after a 5H or 6H hit will set up combos too.
I think that it'll be worth trying for over something like dust RC with some of the projectiles since you'll get to continue your pressure even if they block, but I imagine it'd be tight

@@juliustaylor9920 I vehemently disagree, if you use it raw like Diaphone did you're just putting yourself in about 30 frames of disadvantage for no real reason, like whiffing a big attack but without any threat. Maybe if you wanna use it when you expect your opponent to whiff something big like a Ram HS but that's a huge callout
@@SydneySininen i do it if my opponent is dashing towards me. If they arent expecting it ur good unless ur mashing. U have to use good judgment.
@@juliustaylor9920 oh as they're dashing towards you makes sense. I might still combine that with one of the other spells to force a mid-screen left/right. Imagine a Tardus Metron (the Big Chungus cube) and canceling into a teleport off of it in response to someone running at you

Some great gameplay, I add my two cents, because I wish I was a professional backseat gamer.
1.
Your gameplan includes too much zoning.
When you fought Bongo, the Ramlethal, he just started airdashing at you. I already saw that your anti-air game is insanely good. But throwing spells in melee will on average lead to losing situations, because they are that weak.
Spells from deck 1 have rarely good payoff and leave you open for a long time.
Especially against Ramlethal where she can throw a sword on reaction almost and will start to win neutral.

The more the other player rages, the more likely you are winning.
Your match against Kyron_Dudebro was an impressive showcase:
He was confused in the first rounds, because you overwhelmed him. But when he started to play aggressive, you faltered.
And when you went into melee range, without many resources, the odds were in his favor and he abused your aggressive play. 1:48:23 for a timestamp.
Asuka should use oki to replenish, just like HC.
The best Asuka players tend to take their time, relatively speaking.

I think test case switch is a bait. Every test case shares some of the same spells. But every case has some advantages. Currently, I think that test case 3 is op, but that is just my personal opinion. Now I go for the boxing analogy: There are south paw and orthodox stand which are just mirrors. They are not inherently better than each other, but they have the potential to confuse the other boxer. Yet it is rarely successful, because the mental stacks it creates for the user is larger than the mental stack for the other player.
If you are not 100% able to play Asuka completely fluid and like a flow chart, it is a self nerf.
I would use knockdown to switch my test case once and never look back. And especially switch as early as I can.

Otherwise, you are doing extremely well and the rest is just practice. Maybe I am completely wrong, but I like to share my strats/want to interact, because people may disagree and discussion creates new strats for me to copy :D
Appreciate the feedback, the YT comments help me get stronger :). +1 on not being fluid is a huge nerf. A lot of the time I know what to do but hands cant keep up yet, I know once people are completely fluid character going to be scary.
I'm curious as to what your thoughts are on using health or meter to refill mana.
Health seems best start of round, meter seems better later in round. They both have use, I def default to health too often

I would recommend using the other mana regaining options more. When you use exclusively the health mana, it takes away any health advantage you might have. Use the tension gain more often and even the regular one in certain situations where you can

The only thing I've done so far with Asuka is create combos. Funny thing is when I do couch coops I cast no spells or supers and use 22k to refill my mage armor. Best not to listen to my advice though. As of writing this I've not done a single online match with Asuka.
Another problem i see for myself is always trying to do cool shit and be saucy with this character. As of now im just gonna try to focus on playing the game, but if cool aht happens, i guess its a plus.

I dont think exodia is the strat lol. Exodia is cool but if ur low on health calmy flip through your cards as fast as as you can. I fck myself up when i spam spells because i may teleport close to the enemy and if i havent spammed the proper cards to provide myself cover i get punished and it was all for nothing.
I'm so awful with this character, but I'm so overjoyed that I get to play'em every night.
Please use the meter version of recover mana. It's the safest option
Safe does not always equal good. Pressing the advantage by using the speed of health recovery is far better than the slower tension recovery if you're ahead in the match, and honestly, with strive damage, whether you have 50% or 30% you'll probably die in one combo.
Asuka's great cuz one person can play him and make both people feel stupid

Every time someone makes a "summoning Exodia" joke when talking about cards in other games, the YGO player in me twitches a little. You don't summon Exodia! He activates if you have all pieces in your hand! He does nothing when summoned!

In Celestial you get WAY more exp then any of the lower floors. If Diaphone has been in celestial since he came out it's no surprise that he'd hit 200 by now
