Max finally reaching Baiken only to get insta killed immediately was absolutely hilarious. The first Guilty Gear might be extremely janky but man is it janky in a fun way.
Sol is absurdly good in GG1, you can spam dragon install when you get to low health which builds up damage multipliers then do a single hit and just win.
You can cheat it with a 2nd controller. The game still has the Arcade code, so if you hit the Player 2 join button before the continue comes up, you essentially have infinite tries. And yes, I cheated this way on the recent Steam version too.
You should play as her. After unlocking her battle, she is available for playing in versus mode. There you can see for herself her moves and everything ^^
I remember seeing an image of baiken in a GamePro magazine describing everybody's relationship or story, and she had just a question mark with a poor quality picture. I always assumed she would be some super creepy character

Every single time Max gets Instant Kill-ed by the AI within literal seconds of the first round, which costs him the entire match (because that's how IKs worked in GG1), I just instantly think of Simmons laughing the way he always does whenever one of his buds gets killed in a hilarious way. It works every single time.
I busted my ass off trying to get to and defeat Justice without using a Continue, only to pretty much destroy Baiken first try. Same thing happened when I did it again with Ky.
It’s not that hard if you cheese it tbh. Considering the easy asf infinites you can do with Sol. You can even infinite Volcanic Viper in the corner and it’s not even strictly timed. Another obnoxious infinite is his dash kick infinite when (you guessed it!) you literally just tap forward 2 times and kick because this game is so broken that EVERYTHING OTG’s.

God this game is so so broken it’s incredible, like just check out the wiki and learn about all the busted shit. Overheads that whiff on crouching characters, Ky’s instant kill chains into itself on block and ya know instantly kills on hit, and if they cancel the instant kill on hit it still has enough stun to combo into another instant kill. Justice’s literally everything but especially the full screen unavoidable laser that combos into itself on block or hit. Tons of moves have random invulnerability frames, 0 recovery or both. There’s so much more and it’s hilarious, genuinely the most broken game I’ve ever seen and it’s not close lmao
Oh also regarding there being no RC, that’s true; however there are taunt cancels which allow you to cancel all recovery from any move at basically any time. Essentially RC’s but they don’t consume meter and also lead to infinites because of course they do literally everything in this game leads to infinites
My first Guilty Gear was X, and I fell in love with Baiken. Then went back and found a copy of the first Guilty Gear. I spent an entire day just trying to unlock her until I finally, finally did. Been a Baiken main since.
Those are small, I can't look at her gg1 art without twitching, she looks ugly in the art to me. Scrawny and 10+ years younger, she's vastly more pleasing to look at in game

Just because she's a woman she doesn't have to look good, she has an unsettling face without necessarily be bad looking and she is younger because the game is -probably- set some time before the other installments. And GG1 used a different art style to the ones that came afterwards, which I actually prefer over the, say, GGXX art style.
That first artwork really shows how inspired by Kenshin she was from Rurouni Kenshin...it's a classic anime and manga, and a good one so I ain't go no complaints about that..also..holy shit she went for an Instakill out the gate..and got it.
Not just that but remember when Faust was originally Baldhead? I still forget that at times, that and that Baiken was a secret character to fight. Man, things with the later games.
That's kind of an important plot point when it comes to Faust. It's something he feels guilt over and they leaned a little towards that persona in Strive, allthough this Faust lacks the psycho energy that he had as Baldhead. He looks depressed now more than anything, like he's reached his breaking point.

Damn this game was way ahead of its time in the Cool factor. I was too busy playing Tekken and Street fighter back then and didn’t hear of this till a long time later. Gonna pick it up on PS1.
GG1 is so completely jank and busted. I remember seeing ads for it in Gamepro and Tips and Tricks and thought it looked amazing. I didn't actually play it until years later after i had already played GGX and XX, going back to this game was hilarious and jarring to say the least. It has it's own charm tho admittedly. A nice easter egg is Andy, Terry, and Joe FAR in the background on Axel's stage. That was a nod to SNK. On a side note: Potemkin's theme in this one is one of my favorite themes in the entire series.
I recently played this to rediscover the awakening of baiken, people say a lot of stuff pertaining her design but non of the Guilty Gear games she did'nt have revealing chesticles. main change is the Artstyle kept changing from Anime to Fanime. Crazy how much fun this still is
If anything, her in-game sprites still has her SNK levels of huge badonkers. So i don't really get what the people are going for with the whole "she's so fanservice-ey now"

Only when she does her intro/Super you'll even be seeing much of her new design really. Sure her old GG/GGX look was more simplified but that's not just her, I personally would of liked a more normal gritty look too but we not gonna pretend she was Ukyo or something hiding skin with a back-turn stance
That and, in this games lore, she's one of the last Japanese warriors around after Justice destroyed the Island of Japan. Doesn't mean as much with Anji and Nago showing up later (plus the reveal that May is actually Japanese), but it's still really cool.
Man, every time Max complains about +R Justice it makes me sad. What you need to remember is that +R is the only game where Justice is legal and she was DEEP NERFED. That is not Justice. That is Punished Justice. They should have redone her sprite to be smoking and missing one arm because that's how hard she was nerfed. Basically Boss Justice is a high speed rushdown character, Punished Justice is a zoner because they took away EVERYTHING (and she's STILL too good).
One of the things you must have in mind with this game is the instant-kill command, you will constantly have to do the reversed command to set yourself free from those against the AI whenever the screen turns red (funny how in GGXX Accent Core Plus instead you have to tap 3 directions to get free or lose a round when that happens, plus, that's pretty much the easiest way to see Dizzy's instant kill in the game... yeah, because of how the instant-kill command is to perform, is very unlikely to see Dizzy's one under normal conditions).
I first heard of this game when it came on a ps1 demo disk from the Playstation Underground subscription service. They had a bunch of demos coming down the pipeline and then a couple of Japanese import games that made you reset the system when it was done because the Playstations in Japan worked different. Or so they said. I was solidly into SF by this point and when I played the demo of this game, it blew my mind. Everything about it seemed so different. You could only play Sol or Ky and the stage was that grand stairway level with the blood red carpet. I was constantly resetting my system and sitting through all the loading times just to get another match. The 3-5 minutes it took to load everything especially sucked when the AI used an insta-kill on me 15 seconds into round 1. I never saw it again until I stumbled across a copy of GGXX at a friend's house. I've kept tabs on the game ever since.
After seeing this it makes me wonder if and when he'll take on I-no and Order Sol on the hardest difficulty? Regardless Max's performance was badass as always. Loving this video

I actually prefer Baiken's artstyle from that game rather than Strive. It kinda reminds me of "Sword of the Immortal" manga, which is my number 2 favourite manga right after "Monster".
Baiken has an alternate color.the dark orange one. It resembles Kenshin Himura on his Manslaying days. Thats why I loved Baikrn ever since. And in GGX midnight carnival the game has a Story intro showing a Glimpse of Japan being destroyed by Gears and a young Baiken bleeding from her right Eye. This for me gave off a stronger Main character vibes in Baiken as she has the Active role in chasing the Gear maker. GG is my fave because of Baiken. And now that she is back.."Praise be"
I'm sorry Max, but... Watching that, short of a sort of haggard warrior look to her in the art, she looks pretty much the same. It just seems like in the new games, they tried to make it seem like she was a bit more concerned with her looks. In this one, she kinda looks like she is only concerned with battle, and thus didn't give so much of a shit about it. I agree they're kinda *over* focusing on her chest in the new art though.
Such good memories seeing this game again. Bought it in 2000/01 on a whim in a game store, it was in a box of random PS1 games kinda hidden away. That Justice fight brought back some Post Traumatic RAGE Disorder. And holy hell, I did NOT know you got to fight Baiken as a secret boss in this game!

I mean, if you look closely at Baiken's sprite you can see she also has big proportions here, combine that with the more cartoonish style of the 3d games and there you go. I guess people prefer the old design because is more akin to the more simplistic Himura Kenshin wandering samurai type of character

Damn this game was way ahead of its time in the Cool factor. I was too busy playing Tekken and Street fighter back then and didn’t hear of this till a long time later. Gonna pick it up on PS1.

This got re-released on PS4, Switch and (I think) Steam. That’ll probably much easier than tracking down a PS1 copy
GG1 is so completely jank and busted. I remember seeing ads for it in Gamepro and Tips and Tricks and thought it looked amazing. I didn't actually play it until years later after i had already played GGX and XX, going back to this game was hilarious and jarring to say the least. It has it's own charm tho admittedly. A nice easter egg is Andy, Terry, and Joe FAR in the background on Axel's stage. That was a nod to SNK. On a side note: Potemkin's theme in this one is one of my favorite themes in the entire series.

I recently played this to rediscover the awakening of baiken, people say a lot of stuff pertaining her design but non of the Guilty Gear games she did'nt have revealing chesticles. main change is the Artstyle kept changing from Anime to Fanime. Crazy how much fun this still is
If anything, her in-game sprites still has her SNK levels of huge badonkers. So i don't really get what the people are going for with the whole "she's so fanservice-ey now"
@@RenShinomiya121 Bruh Ikr, they look at the Character illustration witch isnt indicative of her sprite presentation. Only when she does her intro/Super you'll even be seeing much of her new design really. Sure her old GG/GGX look was more simplified but that's not just her, I personally would of liked a more normal gritty look too but we not gonna pretend she was Ukyo or something hiding skin with a back-turn stance

Kind of a weird character to serve as a secret boss, but maybe it's because I'm thinking of "secret boss" as an Akuma situation.
That and, in this games lore, she's one of the last Japanese warriors around after Justice destroyed the Island of Japan. Doesn't mean as much with Anji and Nago showing up later (plus the reveal that May is actually Japanese), but it's still really cool.

It's 'cause you do NOT recast a god-tier VA like Takeshi Kusao, AKA Future Trunks.
Man, every time Max complains about +R Justice it makes me sad. What you need to remember is that +R is the only game where Justice is legal and she was DEEP NERFED. That is not Justice. That is Punished Justice. They should have redone her sprite to be smoking and missing one arm because that's how hard she was nerfed. Basically Boss Justice is a high speed rushdown character, Punished Justice is a zoner because they took away EVERYTHING (and she's STILL too good).

For some reason, Sol's running sound cracks me up.
One of the things you must have in mind with this game is the instant-kill command, you will constantly have to do the reversed command to set yourself free from those against the AI whenever the screen turns red (funny how in GGXX Accent Core Plus instead you have to tap 3 directions to get free or lose a round when that happens, plus, that's pretty much the easiest way to see Dizzy's instant kill in the game... yeah, because of how the instant-kill command is to perform, is very unlikely to see Dizzy's one under normal conditions).

I first heard of this game when it came on a ps1 demo disk from the Playstation Underground subscription service. They had a bunch of demos coming down the pipeline and then a couple of Japanese import games that made you reset the system when it was done because the Playstations in Japan worked different. Or so they said. I was solidly into SF by this point and when I played the demo of this game, it blew my mind. Everything about it seemed so different. You could only play Sol or Ky and the stage was that grand stairway level with the blood red carpet. I was constantly resetting my system and sitting through all the loading times just to get another match. The 3-5 minutes it took to load everything especially sucked when the AI used an insta-kill on me 15 seconds into round 1. I never saw it again until I stumbled across a copy of GGXX at a friend's house. I've kept tabs on the game ever since.

@@SalamanderLights would have gotten him through the video in half the time if he'd been doing them himself, lol. In the further stages when the CPU starts countering I just use them to set up free hits: computer will always dodge whether or not you do the input, which leaves them open to combos
The instant kill system is what makes this so difficult and stressful.

I actually prefer Baiken's artstyle from that game rather than Strive. It kinda reminds me of "Sword of the Immortal" manga, which is my number 2 favourite manga right after "Monster".
besides the soundtrack the coolest part of the game is the badass stages, Zato-1s and Cliff's stage are so cool!

Baiken has an alternate color.the dark orange one. It resembles Kenshin Himura on his Manslaying days. Thats why I loved Baikrn ever since. And in GGX midnight carnival the game has a Story intro showing a Glimpse of Japan being destroyed by Gears and a young Baiken bleeding from her right Eye. This for me gave off a stronger Main character vibes in Baiken as she has the Active role in chasing the Gear maker.
GG is my fave because of Baiken. And now that she is back.."Praise be"

Watching that, short of a sort of haggard warrior look to her in the art, she looks pretty much the same. It just seems like in the new games, they tried to make it seem like she was a bit more concerned with her looks. In this one, she kinda looks like she is only concerned with battle, and thus didn't give so much of a shit about it.
I agree they're kinda *over* focusing on her chest in the new art though.
Well in Xrd, she has a line where she "doesn't give a damn" how she looks.
There isn't even one tasteful female character in the new GG.
Everyone is just redesigned for weird horny weebs.

Bought it in 2000/01 on a whim in a game store, it was in a box of random PS1 games kinda hidden away.
That Justice fight brought back some Post Traumatic RAGE Disorder.
And holy hell, I did NOT know you got to fight Baiken as a secret boss in this game!
