I'm 17 weeks pregnant. Should I be feeling my baby move?

- Most pregnant women start to feel their babies move between 16-18 weeks of pregnancy although some will feel it a little bit sooner especially if they've had babies before because they kind of know what they're looking for. Others start to feel it a little bit later. Maybe the placenta is at the front of your belly and preventing you from feeling a lot of movement and so it's felt later when the baby gets bigger and the movements are stronger. You mentioned that you're 17 weeks and you're worried about how you haven't felt much regular movement yet and that's totally normal. At 17 weeks your baby isn't big enough yet to allow you to feel a lot of normal movement. That doesn't mean your baby's not moving it just means you're not feeling them all. Movement will start to get more regular as your baby gets older, get bigger. By the beginning of your third trimester you should feel regular movement. The guideline is that you should feel about six movements per hour. If it's ever less than that or at any point in your pregnancy if you're concerned just drink something sweet, lay down on one of your sides, and count movements. If it's before the beginning of your third trimester and you're worried, it's way less than you've felt in the past, then go to the hospital and get checked out. They can put your baby on the monitor and make sure everything is okay. If you're at the beginning of your third trimester and beyond if you feel less than five movements in an hour or six or less movements in an hour and some textbooks and guidelines say ten or less movements in two hours, then it's time to go to the hospital for sure and get checked out. The best indication that you have that your baby is doing well when you're not at the hospital or hooked up to a monitor is that you're feeling your baby move. If that's ever less than your norm then it's always worth paying attention and getting checked out if you feel like you need to be. We're huge believers in mother's intuition and we'd love to just check you out and make sure things are okay if you just simply come in and say I feel like something is concerned and I'd like to be seen. @@nurfarizah1989 my baby is doing fine. She moves quite alot now started around 20 weeks. I was starting to get a Lil concern cos she moves alot for 3 to 4 days straight and than another 3 to 4 days she makes Lil small movements. But Im learning Is just her patterns. I think she sleeps for few days and than active for the next few days and she repeats the same thing. What I do when worries creeps in I eat some sweets and got her moving. Lol. How you and your baby doing?

I'm 17 weeks but I am not sure. I THINK sometimes I feel my baby move but it's not often and I'm never sure. I hope I start feeling her move soon
I’m pregnant with my 3rd baby, my other two kids didn’t move 6 times per hour or follow any rules about how many times they need to move, they aren’t robots! They were born healthy active babies, they’re doing great so I disagree with these requirements, babies are growing and developing in the womb, I think these requirements cause unnecessary stress on mothers
I know. who can afford to go to the hospital that many times? And when you get there the doctors and nurses will make you feel like you're a paranoid crazy person

I agree with you, my baby moves quite alot at 20 weeks onwards for 4 days straight and another 4 days she moves two to 3 times between those other 4 days. I learn it is just her patterns. She sleeps for few days and active for a few days And she repeats the same pattern. I pay attention to my babys patterns.

Thank you for the video but I disagree with you on the number of times baby should move. I am not a professional however from the knowledge I have so far there are a number of factors that may contribute to your baby not moving as often as you suggest they should
If you're hungry
If you sleep too much and hardly take walks or exercise (baby becomes lazy and won't move as often)
How your placenta is positioned
Apart from all of these, we all carry differently and things will not be the same for all of us. Some women only feel movements after 22 weeks actually and I'm pretty much sure counting how many times a day or hour is invalid. The kicks get less towards the time of deliver, imagine how much stress one would have if the haven't put all of the above possibilities into consideration?
What's important is attending your required appointments and you and baby are healthy.

@@AnjaliKumari-ni7ms hey I am 26-27 weeks now and I talked to my doctor amd she said you will feel the movements from around 13 weeks and higher but they won't be strong movements because the baby is still small and doesn't have the strength to kick hard so don't worry but when u get around 20-25 weeks you will feel it more

My second child hardly moved, she used to scare me, she was born healthy and normal, she is almost 6 years old now and still healthy. I had gestational diabetes when pregnant with her and I was very sick, perhaps that's why she hardly ever moved.

I felt movement at 16 weeks 6 days. This is my 3rd pregnancie and i dont remeber either of my kids consistencly moving 6 times every hour after the 3rd trimester. Im happy i didn't no that (rule) or id be extremely stressed counting the movements. I think lots od mothers no when its been awhile when not feeling the baby move.

17 weeks today, and I’m not sure if I’ve felt THE flutter. Whenever I wake up, or sometimes when I go to lay down, I’ll feel SOMETHING “flutter” but idk if it’s gas bubbles. It’s not on my left side with my colon, but between my belly button and pelvis. It’s rare and I’ve maybe felt it 3 times since week 14. I don’t know..I just want to feel movement.
That's exactly what I feel and I'm almost 18 weeks, first pregnancy. I believe it is definitely the baby moving! I also feel strange twitch/popcorn type feelings as well. So weird but so amazing ❤️

I felt first movements (flutters/butterflies) at 12 weeks. Daddy finally felt baby kick him at 17❤️ then again I’m 5’1 and 101 pounds so not much room in there haha

My baby girl who is 9 and perfect now :) thank God. She got her foot wedged in ny left rib cage and kept it there for at least a month. I think she broke it because it hurt for years after she was born haha. Bht she would get some comfy and be so still i would get scared often and went to the hospital 3 times to get her checked. She was always fine. Just comfy.

I’m 16 weeks w my third and I’m not sure if it’s baby movements or gas bubbles I’m feeling. It’s a mixture of flutters and almost like popping like gas bubbles. It’s not frequent but then again I don’t keep track. My first two from what I can remember I ddnt feel and see kicks etc until 20 weeks.

I had a molar pregunancy in october2020 n got preg two mths after where by i sopose to wait 6 months prior before gtin pregunant again ...n even tho im gtin my checkups ...im a bit worried because they are tellin me ..if i have a normal pregunancy ...theres a chance or me havin bleedin problems after the baby is born ......this shit haunts me more than having a baby...but god is greater than man i tryin to make myself believe that theres a better chance for me...

The time at which you feel movement will likely be the same as it is for someone who is pregnant with only one baby. It's typical to feel the first movements between 17-20 weeks, but you might feel it as soon as 16 weeks because they're all a little more squished in there. If you're ever concerned about any of your babies, call your OB provider and they can determine if further investigation is warranted.
