Hi, Im thinking of applying for a placement year but I don't have much work experience. I've struggled to get a job over the past 2 years and Covid hasn't helped either. I only have volunteering. Do you think I have much of a chance?
Hey, I’m sure you do. It’s more about how you interview and reading the placement description throughly to ensure you can answer all their questions. Hope your managed to get one x
Hey your video was super helpful! I’ll be starting biomedical sciences this January and am thinking about opting for doing the placement year but want to know if there would be good opportunities to do so if I’m in the January intake?
Hey I’m not to sure as I was a September intake but that shouldn’t matter. And I would always recommend doing the placement year to anyone who studies BIOMED and wants to peruse a career as a biomedical scientist in the future x
I find it so funny that she says she was gifted in haematology but ended up loving microbiology on placement... I love microbiology right now but I’m doing haematology for placement and lowkey worried bc it’s my worst module right now
Thank you for the video ! It was really helpful. I wanted to ask whether you had any previous experience in a laboratory for a Biomed placement? What advice will you give for a 1st year Biomed student to secure a good placement? Should I gain any lab experience prior to my placement year to get a good placement? Thank you. You’re doing a great job to help students like me :)
This was soo helpful, im in the middle of deciding whether or not to accept a placement in the nhs especially because its unpaid and im not a fan of microbiology😭
It’s criminal that placements are still unpaid in this day and age! If you want to practice as. BMS I’d say take it because they’re really hard to get after you graduate x
Thanks for the tips! I’m also going into university to do Biomedical Sciences (starting in a few days) and I’m planning to do my placement abroad in either Spain, US, France or Australia. What do you reckon the pros and cons for working abroad is? Thank you ☺️
Glad it was helpful. It all depends on if you want to practice as a BMS in the UK, if not then train wherever you like but if so then just make sure the country you’re training in allows you to do the portfolio and assessment In order to successfully apply to be a Practicing biomedical scientist in the UK.
Thanks for the video 😊 I’m a first year biomedical science student and I’m planning to do a placement year. Did you have to have previous experience in the laboratory to get your placements?? Do you have any tips for a 1st year biomed student who’s planning to do a placement year ( do extra activities to increase the changes to get a placement )?
Bella I love your vlog so much it was very helpful, kindly flim a vlog on the application process and interview tips..
I will do x

What's next after doing a full-time biomedical science degree
You can go down the route of become a practicing biomedical scientist or working for a private medical device company
I’ve come across proffessionals loads while doing a waitressing job and got their emails and LinkedIns for networking I have that DOWN
That's what I like to hear ❤️
can you make your portfolio during any type of biomed placement?
No it has to be in a IBMS accredited lab
