by definition races cant be for casual players... because its not casual players that will win them. Its gonna be the sweaty tryhards. So i fail to see why designing the race especially around them is such a bad thing.
@Thorveim races arent for almost any racers these days either. Nobody even gets close to these guys. Its pretty fucking dull to bother watching when thats been the case for a long time now. Maybe we'll get new blood soon but lets be honest... poe doesnt bring in new players often. Probably not going to see new racers who stand a chance until after poe2's launch IF then
I mean, i get the logic. The race winners are going to be sweaty, hyper-optimised top tier players anyway, might as well make the race as hard as possible for them so they dont just breeze through the race
To be fair they already did normal PoE Uber race before. If they wanted to make a new event then Ruthless is the obvious choice, because there are no new Bosses introduced

They want to push ruthless more, so when they nerf the speed of the base game it doesn't feel as bad. (Look at the new leveling nerfs) All to set the pace for PoE2, and that has me worried that PoE2 will not have the aspects that made PoE fun and addicting in the first place. If i want slow, Diablo exists. People want to BLAST!
Or, and copium me on this, they didnt have any endgame changes and havent done a boss kill event in a while and wanted to have it not just be a carbon copy of the last one.
Ruthless is still like >2% of the playerbase so they probably just wanted to make a different or very hard race this time, it is not poe 2 nor normal poe (if poe 2 was meant to be ruthless like there would be no reason for ruthless to exist). This patch weapon tree is extreme powercreep that more than make up for the skill tree changes the normal game will still be fast and fun.
