I also fell down that slippery slope into Kdrama land. I was literally searching Netflix for something good to watch one Friday evening during the COVID lockdown 2020 and stumbled across a Kdrama. I said, "Oh what the heck." and started watching. The rest is history. My list of Kdramas I have viewed is long. I began researching Korean history & culture. Quite frankly, it was if I had discovered a parallel universe where there were people who physically didn't look like me; but who had the same hopes, dreams, fears and daily struggles as my friends, family and I. To make things even more disorienting for me, I'm African-American. So the whole way Koreans deal with issues such as their slavery past blew me away. Mr. Sunshine really hit hard, with Eugene having to deal with the social realities that came with him having been born a slave. But other Kdramas impressed me with their exporations with themes such as the definition of success, questions of the impact of technology on modern society, etc. While I may never visit or live in Korea, I find the people endearing. ....Right now I'm so far down The Alchemy of Souls rabbit hole I can't see daylight! 😂😂😂

Thank you so much for watching my video! I really appreciate you commenting about your journey with K-dramas. I think it's so interesting to hear people's story about how they fell into the k-drama world! I have Mr. Sunshine on my watch list. I have lot to catch up on. I'm glad that you found a parallel universe/experience and can relate to situations in k-dramas, including Korean history. I love success dramas too. Living in South Korea definitely feels like I live in a k-drama sometimes lol! I learn something new everyday and now that I am studying Korean and learning the language it has made life a lot easier for me here! In the future I will be uploading a video about all the K-dramas I watched and ranking them, recommending them ect...
I'd love to get feedback on any dramas you recommend I should watch besides the ones you already mentioned! Take care and have a k-drama day! 😎

I wish you luck in SK. If I may make a sincere suggestion....do not bring any american "baggage" with you. You are a guest in a foreign country. Do not try turn SK into America. You should be adjusting to their way of life NOT the other way around. The fact you have been living there for a year and don't know the language is actually pretty sad. Make an effort to really understand their culture (which is more than just cafes and bbq). I'm not trying to talk down to you, just want you to get the most out of your time there. ❤✌

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback, Korean is not a language you just pick up while you’re here. I should’ve tried and studied harder to learn it the first year so I understand your point of view! 🙂
