“More educational Strongman stuff”? Absolutely. Like another comment said. The silly stuff is fun but your best content is always Strongman training related. 🔥 I -always- learn something new with this type of video.
You should do a video on common strongman injuries and explain the biomechanics behind them. Hopefully you can help me understand my own bicep rupture a bit better
stones for me was my first bicep tear. towards the end of the session and grip and chest squeeze started to fatigue causing the stone to slip slightly on the pickup and me not wanting to drop it tried to almost curl it back up into my chest and boom bye bye bicep
Ditto, I'd love to hear how to address lifting and lifting heavy after hernia surgery. Same with small sprained muscles (I was bloated after surgery and had a hard cough and pop!) since I currently have both at the same time. Not mention its common in not just older guys but people who lift or are athletic in general. Wish I could say I was doing some crazy ass weight but sadly it was just a combo of stupidity, neglect, and age.
I have always wondered if it is from lack of training the bicep compared to training the rest of the body. It seems like strongpeople try to avoid using the bicep because of the fear of tearing it leaving it out of balance in strength compared to the rest of the body.
I wonder if we'll ever see a "raw" stone event in a comp. Either absolutely no assistance or maybe just tacky. Not saying I have any preference or opinion on whether it should be done but I wonder how it would affect the overall standings if you took ten guys and did with/without.
probably not, with the level of strength these guys have a heavy stone run without tacky would be hell on their biceps and pecs. it would be way too dangerous
Honestly I'd prefer they do something we've seen in a couple of the Strength Unknown vidoes - allow the stones to be lifted with the help of a cloth ring. I think it kind of eliminates the need to stick to the stone as much because it gives you leverage to squeeze. If everyone uses the same equipment there is less weirdness about someone getting tacky wrong.
This is an amazing video to see this kind of “behind the scenes” details of not only what you do but also how strongman works. This is so great to see! 👍 Anyone trying to get into strongman will get a lot from this!
😂 I always think the same thing when I Edie hall use it in a title. It’s one thing if it’s recent. But when it’s close to a decade past it seems tacky. But just my opinion. I’m not sure if other strongman have an issue with it or not
I train this movement with circular(ish) sandbags. I hate making a mess, soooo I think I'll never transition to actual atlas stones 😂 I'm jealous of the zero slip, though
Damn that's a lot of extra stuff you need to compete in stones. Has there been a history of the organizations regulating what kind of tacky and support items like the shirt can be used? I wonder if it was controversial in the beginning to use them.
The issue I've had doing stones is on the lift from my lap, I find the stone is "backspinning" as I go to extend. I take it it's a case of squeeze into your chest harder?
I know Shane Jerman is using something other stone sleeves I know it's a tape but I heard alot of athletes are using his method can't remember the name of the stuff
Okay, I have a genuine question for anyone out there. Why do strongmen insist on using tacky, istead of carving a handle into the stone or using a strap to help hold on? What is the advantage to tacky? Cause what I see is other sports that specialize in stone lifting using handles and straps and absolutely trouncing even the top strongmen while weighing a fraction of the weight. I've seen a 105kg man shoulder a 230kg atlas stone without tacky by using a strap, I've seen dudes equal size should a 100kg stone for 1000 reps by using a handle. Then you get to strongman and their stone performance is based more off of the temperature of the room and how their tacky is mixed rather than their actual strength. And even dudes at the top can hardly train stones more than once a week cause it beats you up so much when if you use a strap or handle you can train them 5,6,7x weekly and be fine.
From the WD40 Material Safety Data sheet on page 4, under paragraph # 11 Toxicological Information, "Skin Contact: Prolonged and/or repeated contact may produce mild irritation and defatting with possible dermatitis.".......so make sure to wash all of your skin with soap and water thoroughly after wards! (and dont get in your eyes or breath it in)
Great video but I have to wonder if the same thing couldn’t be accomplished by just using a towel to wipe off the arms before applying tacky? If that didn’t do the trick I wonder if antiperspirant would cut down on the sweating
IKR the stress when people rush you and you dont want to get tacky on your giants live trophy 😅 yeah thats really sucks man, we can relate.... right guys? ... right? 😅
@mitchellhooperstrongman I might be an idiot but it seems to me it shouldn't be that difficult to custom make some sleeves that a) fits your arms better and are tightened maybe with like a corset-type lacing on the outside of the forearm, and b) are made out of a stiffer material that is less likely to be pulled down and bunch up. Something you have considered?
NFL receivers use to use that tacky type of stuff to help catch the Ball but it was banned.... The sticky stuff got on the Balls and couldn't come off.... So they refs had to change them with a new ball after each receiving play
What brand of atlas stones are these? They look a little different than a lot of the normal concrete molds out there. Love the video and content. Thanks so much!! 🫎
This video hits at the absolute perfect time for me. I'm looking to compete in my first strongman comp and the first time I touch stones will be tomorrow morning. This educational stuff you do is extremely valuable for us aspiring competitors. Who better to learn from than someone with absolutely no weaknesses? Huge thanks, Moose! .........(Moose droppings, did I do it right?)
No concerns among you, your wife, or your team with the structural integrity of the garage floor and if it will be compromised by the repeated impact of the stones? I know how garage floors are built in Alberta, but don’t know if it’s different in Ontario. In Alberta, there are concrete piles drilled into the ground when the foundation created, and the tops of the concrete piles are exposed so the garage floor will connect to the piles when pouring the floor. This is done as the ground inevitably settles beneath the concrete and you end up with hollow pockets underneath the garage floor, and it’s held up by the concrete piles. Just a hunch I’m operating on because I was least experienced on the crew I worked with, but I’m worried that one day that corner of the garage will turn into a crater. Best to have an engineer assess your set up to make sure it’s not damaged.
whenever i have to do mechanic work and my hands are covered in grease and road grime, i have to poop. i would hate to get a code brown with tacky applied
To the backyard strongman: You dont need all that gear to do stones. It helps but isnt required. I rep a homemade 225lb stone shirtless without tacky or gear. If you want to youll find a way.
Would you consider other solvents for removing tacky? My grandpa used to rinse with gasoline to get all the gunk from working on his truck (mainly oil and grease) off. The few times I've needed to clean off, it's worked like a charm. Just a quick wash with soap & water afterwards and you're golden.
That has to require a massive cleanup effort with the tacky sticking to everything it comes in contact with. I used to own a water proofing company and we used WD-40 all the time to dilute the the strong blue epoxy and flashing tar on our arms and hands.
At first when you said, “let’s pretend like we are by ourselves” I misheard you and thought you were calling out a strongman for having no friends and naming someone. Had to replay a few times. Hahaha
If you want something less oily than wd-40, generally isopropyl alcohol is a good option for getting pine sap off your hands, I bet it would work for tacky and not leave your with a pile of oily rags.
Have you tried skin tac wipes? I use them to attach my glucose monitor to my arm. I am a big sweater as well and you apply the wipe prior to the adhesive tape. It seems to help a ton.
These specific skill/knowledge videos are why I'm subscribed. The other silly stuff is fine for filler, but this is the content that I follow for.
if you actually do the JOIN option for 5 dollars a month you get access to alot more technical content. it's been worth it so far for me
i will never lift a stone in my life but its still fun to learn about
For what skillz youll never have or use
Exactly

Agreed, that's a good topic.
Stop beating your meat

Sometimes it takes huge balls to be a strongman.
Steroids have entered the chat
Sometimes? You Mean Always Right? 😅
It takes 3 balls. All of them are triple gonad athletes. Look it up.
Big balls
AC DC
I've always wondered how Tom Stoltman can hold on so easily to the stones, especially at the belly-stone point of contact.
Tbh I think everyone does. He just invincible at stones
Tom is huge with a big wingspan
Great video! Stone lifting has always been interesting to me, its good to see a detailed breakdown on them.
Arnold’s basically did this this year with the final stone medley, nothing but a tacky towel was allowed

@@jaket2274 same with the rogue international when Martins won last time. I think it was just tacky towels allowed
The most amazing thing about the video is the relatively clean garage that is also not unbearably hot.
Can we get a video.like this for logs? That would be awesome
WTF I though you were 38-45 or something. But you're 28... holy shit
This is an amazing video to see this kind of “behind the scenes” details of not only what you do but also how strongman works. This is so great to see! 👍 Anyone trying to get into strongman will get a lot from this!
Appreciate it man! Glad you enjoyed the video.
It says worlds strongest man but I didn’t see Tom one time…?

Me who just got his first 60kg sand bag 😮 would that grip shirt help ?
I train this movement with circular(ish) sandbags. I hate making a mess, soooo I think I'll never transition to actual atlas stones 😂
I'm jealous of the zero slip, though
I use sandbags at home too (because I can't get stones). But whenever I've trained at a gym with stones, I just use chalk.
You make a soldier going into battle look like a simple set up lol
Damn that's a lot of extra stuff you need to compete in stones. Has there been a history of the organizations regulating what kind of tacky and support items like the shirt can be used? I wonder if it was controversial in the beginning to use them.
Some competitions (Arnold, rogue) will only allow for tacky towels… but there is no regulation for sticky substances at other shows!
Bro is lifting round boulders that are heavier than me and my deadlift pr
You could put bones like a corset in the sleeve so it can’t bunch and they make a type rubber made to stick to skin for the inside.
The issue I've had doing stones is on the lift from my lap, I find the stone is "backspinning" as I go to extend. I take it it's a case of squeeze into your chest harder?
Put some tacky on your stomach or wear a grip shirt! Stone spinning is not a technique problem
@@mitchellhooperstrongman thankyou sir 💪
Good one. I've wondered how the meet and greets are after some shows, and how much residual tacky you leave on fans without their knowledge. 😅
I have gotten trace tacky in a lot of hair 😳
@@mitchellhooperstrongman Explains the hairstyle 😁
I know Shane Jerman is using something other stone sleeves I know it's a tape but I heard alot of athletes are using his method can't remember the name of the stuff
I can't stand sticky whatever on my skin, I guess I am not going to be starting strongman in my 50's like I was thinking.😂
Bro it is mental how easily you pick that stone up ... I am blown away cham,p

Fabric adhesive and then wD40 to get it off?😬 good luck with that cancer bro....🙏I'll pray for you.
Hi 😀 Have you tried the TAG (resin) used in European Handball ?? its really sticky 👍👍👍
The amount of effort required to just attempt the stones is kind of amazing
I don't know about tacky but sunscreen takes pine sap off with no problem at all.
Great video but I have to wonder if the same thing couldn’t be accomplished by just using a towel to wipe off the arms before applying tacky? If that didn’t do the trick I wonder if antiperspirant would cut down on the sweating

Baby oil, then turpentine and back to baby oil 100% best way to remove 100% of it quickly
Can you wear shorts/long pants with a tack/grip surf especially for the knees and thighs.
No. Just no. I could not handle having that much sticky on me..... this looks like a nightmare 7:28

As per usual Moose, top tier content aaauuuuaaaa!!!
BIG TOM IS SCARY GOOD AT THE STONES....THATS THE BAD BIT LOL
Dude just sprayed himself with glue then wrapped his skin with duct tape 😮
Why don't they cover the stones with a stickier material? Like rubber

There can be only one king of the stones 🤙🏻🏴🤙🏻
Big Tom 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Tacky over and under duct tape is my favourite method
I would love more educational videos. This one was great! Thank you.
As I kid I’d use goo-gone to get pine sap off my skin from playing outside.
"Spray adhesive" and WD40, damn dude you gotta go to Canadian Tire just for your workout.
Moose for prime minister
Folding over the tape is called a "Buddy Tab" fyi
When you mistake tacky for lube….

Applying and taking off tacky at WSM 24 must’ve been a nightmare with those torn callouses
Got a full minute in and no mention of ketones yet, SMH
That has to require a massive cleanup effort with the tacky sticking to everything it comes in contact with. I used to own a water proofing company and we used WD-40 all the time to dilute the the strong blue epoxy and flashing tar on our arms and hands.
Hilarious slowly realizing he’s about to spray on some random sticky chemical and not some specifically designed spray for use on skin

Bring home strongest man on earth baby. Canada wants it
Baby oil will also remove tacky easily 👌🏻
I'm really looking forward to seeing ur stone run at SMOE. Some guys thinking they will dominate that event could be surprised.
What are ketones? I don't think you spoke about them. All jokes aside, I appreciate the content!
Pinesol works good for tacky removal and it will leave you smelling piney fresh 😉
Have you tried skin tac wipes? I use them to attach my glucose monitor to my arm. I am a big sweater as well and you apply the wipe prior to the adhesive tape. It seems to help a ton.
This has got to be the tackiest video on youtube!! Mitch you are so tacky!! 🤣🤣🤣 (sorry I had to)
awesome to see some event training that isn't axle/deadlift focused!
Tacky definately looks like sap from a pine tree, i used to climb trees alot and get the stuff all over me, pain to get off
Mitch Hooper is the cerebral assassin of strongman...im a fan of thor and him and I just can't choose
Buy WD40 in jugs, easier to get towel soaked and is cheaper as an added bonus
This was really interesting to watch, thanks for sharing and breaking down what is going on for the prep and actual event of the lift
Please stop with the insanely bad thumbnails it makes me actively not watch the video
Mitchell trying to break the hands free atlas stone world record in this thumbnail I see
This looks obnoxious TBH. I'll stick to deadlifts lol
What I need to know is how the hell do u recover from these sessions so we'll.
👍
IMO the Cerberus tacky remover is well worth it.
I haven't tried wd40 to clean off tacky, but baby oil work pretty well
It works way better than baby oil. Just saying
Love the education you give in your videos, it’s very interesting! 💪🏻
You need an Abmat stone return pad
