Beautiful time period. I graduated in 87. These were the days we would dress-up and go out dancing. You had to have class and game to approach the ladies, and the ladies had to have a nice vibe and appearance. We thought this was normal life back then... little did we know it was Heaven on Earth.
Also 58 and so so right omg the blast from the past made me remember being 22 or around there and going to the club and rocking steady all night long LOL
My friends and I would take a break from College and go to a place called “The Clock”. The old men would play dominoes and we’d loop the jukebox with The Whispers~ “Rock Steady” and Levert~(“I’m not your) Casanova “. The old men wanted to break the jukebox.
They made History by being the first R & B Group to have Twins. Only Jagged Edge did that as well. Their Harmonies were next to Boyz To Men some of the best in Music. They have other hits like "And The Beat Goes On" that Will Smith Sampled for "Welcome To Miami", "In The Raw", "I Can Make It Better For You".
One of the twins (NO idea which one lol) lived in my neighborhood (on Springpark Ave. in Ladera Heights in L.A.) when I was a young. We (my 2.5 years older brother, our friends, and I - a tomboy for life) were completely out of pocket as kids. Whichever twin it was would just wave as we went by on roller skates being dragged behind a minibike (6 or 7 deep holding hands - not a helmet or any other protective gear in sight). Back then nobody cared, and kids did death-defying stuff damn near everyday. I suppose he would have cared if one of us had crashed into his Rolls though lol. That neighborhood was a haven for black celebs; Ken Norton Jr. was in my 4th grade class, and we were all scared shitless when his dad would come to school to talk to our teacher (as if the guy who broke Muhammad Ali's jaw would just randomly start wailing on 9 year olds lol). Being a kid was the BEST before parents started being afraid of EVERYTHING.
I was 15 in 1987...going to under 21 nights...this song ,George Michael's I Want Your Sex....and Good Times by INXS and Jimmy Barnes... Great Times...I'll be 52 in 2 weeks...I miss these times.
In some parts of the country in the '80s, "pop" was heavily hip-hop/R&B/rap. So yeah, this gray-headed female minister can sing every lyric to this song. I mean, how can you NOT dance to this? Your generation had to come from somewhere. *wink wink*
I danced to this a many a night. I was born in 58.
It’s a hit every time!
How Steve Harvey would look I wonder my favorite song
