Hyperspeed (11:53) The protagonist meets a beautiful woman who brings him comfort in the cutthroat and corrupt nobility he's found himself in. He takes her on a hyperspeed date where they fall in love. 3. Army of Tigers (16:28) The Mad King of Earth decides to go to war with the Sun. He creates an Army of Tiger mechs to crush the sun's core. No one thinks this is a good idea but he's the King. 4. Storm the Castle (20:35) The protagonist refuses to stand for this and forms an rebellion to take down the Mad King. The fighting is fierce but the protagonist fails and the Sun has its core crushed. He is seperated from his lover. The rebellion is ruined. 5. Final Frontier (39:09) Several Arks set off for a new planet, hoping to find somewhere new after the destruction of Earth. The Mad King still reigns but some of the Arks are not pleased with his rule. 6. 10,000 Light-years (35:27) Some of the Arks tear away from the Mad King's flagship and get lost in the wilds of space, hoping to create their own society. The prisoner ship the protagonist is on gets stranded on Alpha Centauri and all he can think of is his lover. 7. Starship Velociraptor (24:02) A wandering alien pirate fleet offers to sell the protagonist and the remaining stragglers of the rebellion a ship. They take it. 8. Man the Cannons (27:52) The rebellion learn how to work the ship, become pirates in their own right, and decide to launch an assault to liberate the colony of New Earth from the Mad King's tyranny. 9. Glory or Gold (0:00) The campaign is growing more and more powerful. Many of the Arks team up to take down the King and restore the people to their former glory. Finally, only one obstacle remains, taking the Mad King's head. 10. Settle It With a Swordfight (8:02) The final showdown for the fate of New Earth begins. The protagonist has a swordfight with the Mad King and wins, freeing his people forever and rescuing his love. 11. I was going to write a lengthy comment detailing how Jonathan is a musical genius, but someone beat me to it. Three more things- 1. He made his own genre. 2080's melodic power metal (with some major funk) 2. Starship velociraptor might be a hyperbole of adds pushing sales, or maybe I'm overthinking it. Either way, it's a bitchin' ride, and Jonathan would make a great car salesman, if he didn't have so much soul. 3. Someone give me a link to buy this album please.
It reminds me a lot of Ninja Sex Party: ridiculous/whimsical themes but awesome music and great singing. Ninja Brian's appearance and the passing resemblance between the band members and TWRP certainly strengthen the comparison XD

It's funny you say this, because my favorite song on the album keeps bouncing around. Was "Best Band in the Universe" (thanks Ninja Brian), then "Man the Cannons", then "Final Frontier", and now I'm just really liking "Glory or Gold".
10,000 Lightyears has to be one of my new favorite songs. It conveys such a clear and compelling story: A broken down starship floating aimlessly in space, a depressed crew awaits their final end. A bottle is passed around and people start confessing their biggest regrets. A normally guarded pirate wonders what his life would have been like if he had swept that girl off her feet like he wanted to in that moment before duty or money or friends or nihilism lured him off to a life of adventure, ever looking over his shoulder at the specter of his would-be life, kicking himself for ever hesitating. It's just beautiful and tragic and a good song.
So let's see here... pirates--nay, space pirates, swords, a goddamn army of tigers smiting the evil sun, the best commercial for a starship ever, and countless epic references to speed, distance, and the jetpacks we all want to be able to order on Amazon. Jonathan, we need to talk about all of us vacationing in your mind a bit longer. This is simply glorious... time to listen cover-to-cover again.
The amount of blinding rage i have at how little views this has is mind boggling. The hardcore, nay, VISCERAL waves of testosterone pumping ADRENALINE that this album evokes is testament to everything right with society. It rocks my very soul to the core just thinking about it. Just listening to the opening chords have extended my life. I am immortal now. When the stars begin to burn out and the endless sea we call time draws to an end, I will still be listening to this machination of holy melodies of rock. Thank you Jonathan Young.
I'm in the exact situation, I scroll through joyo's channel and I see the video about clickbait and I'm like, "origional music!?!?!?" i listen to it and I havnt stopped

@@subversiveasset While I don't disagree with your interpretation, I don't think the songs are all that connected. An album with ridiculous, over the top songs like Army of Tigers, Best Band in the Universe and the titular Starship Velociraptor doesn't strike me as one that would weave all the songs together with one narrative. Not to say an album can't have a cohesive narrative while also being balls to the wall dumb fun at times, but that's my take on it.
Ten-Thousand Light-Years is a daily *must-listen* for me. The romantic solitude vibes on that song is just.. unreal. I've been in a long-distance relationship with the love of my life since the start of the pandemic and Ten-Thousand Light-Years just perfectly encapsulates that feeling of love-filled longing. You absolutely killed it, Jonathan!!
This single album is now why I understand how people can just listen to music. Like just sit there and do nothing but listen to music. No exercising, no driving, nothing. I’m commenting not only to help with the UA-cam’s algorithm but to than Jonathan for this gift of god.
Jonathan: *Dares to defy the Algorithm gods* Me: *Violently hurled into an arcade vortex of 90s cartoon space adventures!* Algorithm gods: "Is this true divinity?" *Boss music intensifies*

I bought the CD to listen to on long hauls across the states, and my new truck doesn't have a CD player. Thankfully one of the best albums I've heard in YEARS is on UA-cam. Been rocking out for about 1500 miles now. Jonathan, you've created an entire album that is stuck in my head. Best Band In The Universe? HELL YEAH!
That thing where music has always existed in your mind and every song sounds like "oh of course, that song" even when it's original. Every song is that song.
Alestorm and Gloryhammer: How cool would it be if we made an album together ? Pirates and undead unicorns in a space war... Jonathan Young: Hold my starship velociraptor and my army of tigers, we're beating the shit out of the sun
almost 2 years later and still an absolute blast to listen to every song; I literally cannot overstate how incredible this entire album is, and I hope to see more like it because I need more of this!!
My wife died almost exactly a year ago, and that song legitimately hit me like a wrecking ball the first time I heard it. A truly beautiful song, especially in contrast to the rest of the album.
takes me back all the way to the 1990s -yes, I grew up with that music, don't judge me- Also, I would willingly die for an animated video for that song (as long as I get to see the video before I die, that is)
Man, when spacefaring hits the public and normal people are just surfing around in space casually, they're gonna have a metric heckton of perfect music to accompany them. This Album certainly deserves to be among that. Final Frontier was my favorite!
Leaving a comment so that UA-cam pushes this in recommended and to show my appreciation to Jon for making something so special and so fucking awesome at the same time!
If you like this album i recommend listening to one of his other songs "The Land of Broken Dreams", sounds a bit similar to this album but more power metal.

Gotta say, Closely listening to the lyrics of Final Frontier after amazing and hilarious songs like army of tigers and starship velociraptor hit me way harder than I was ready for. The moment I realized what it was about I was left speechless. Amazing and heavy song, what a perfect end to a crazy awesome album.

This entire album has an energy I can't explain, it feels like you're smiling while singing all of it. You can hear the joy and energy, and the drums. The DRUMS. The everything honestly. This is genuinely beautiful, and I don't think I'll ever stop finding new things to appreciate about it. Also, "Best Band in the Universe" fills me with a smug joy I can't begin to describe.
Dude, seriously, I just keep listening to this whole album. I love it, I want more, I need more. This is the exact kind of shit we need more of! It's sci-fi, fantasy, pirates and all rolled into one and I love it so much.
Liking and leaving a comment below to feed the algorithm so you, who are definitely Galactikraken and not Jonathan Young, can continue making music like this.
I've been showing this to everyone that I can. The people I've played it for in-person have all liked it, so I hope my contributions please the algorithm gods.
I've been loving your originals for years. From songs like Echo Chamber and Alone to Walk a Mile and Jetpack Race, they've all been my favorite videos of yours. You've come a long way Jonny boy.
I don't often comment, but this has prompted me into action. This album is absolutely amazing, the people you collaborate with are equally talented. I've been listening on loop for a week. Especially Starship Velociraptor, it's literally been stuck in my head for days and days. Even the animation, I play it in my head every time I'm singing to myself or listening.
"Rock so hard it fucking hurts" damn right, in an age when creativity dead we need more epic things like this. Please keep it up no matter what the algorithm says.
What gets me is how each instrument sounds like it's playing a completely different genre and it still fits together. Drums: Heavy Metal Bass: Funk Guitar: Hair Metal Synths: 80s Pop Additional Instruments: Any genre that catches our boy's attention This, coupled with some of the best damn jazzy chords I've heard outside of jazz, just elevates this whole album from a cool space ride into a completely immersive experience that I'm sad that I will never enjoy for the first time ever again. Already album of the year and my album for the summer.
This is an absolute fucking tour de FORCE. It's the power metal space opera my body has craved for decades and you've over-delivered more that I think anyone expected. So uplifting, affirming, adventurous - with influences from all over the musical map - it's an absolute fucking delight to listen to. I love your covers as much as anyone and of course its a bummer to think your heart isn't in them - I don't mean to be hyperbolic, but fuck them - if THIS is what your heart is in and it sounds this fucking sick, then we'll lose them - this album has all of the heart, all of the showcasing of your singing, arranging, writing and playing that got you on all of our radars in the first place. I want to shout out a particular highlight, but i'm reeling trying to pick a single moment - the whole thing is a fucking lightspeed jump from start to finish. It's the perfect realization of the spirit of that one twitter clip you posted a while back and a whole universe more. Whatever you do and wherever you go from here - thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for realizing this incredible ORIGINAL album, fuck yes my dude.
This has got to be my favorite unexpected surprise of 2021. I can't believe how the album goes between serious songs like Final Frontier and completely over the top stuff like Army of Tigers, and it's all so good. I really hope Jon is able to find success he deserves with his original songs.
From what he said on the Caleb Hyles show ("I hired independent animators to work on all these songs" or something like that), I think all the songs will have an animated video, though that might just be me being hopeful.
@@jonathanymusic Yes! If they're even half as good as the video for Best Band in the Universe it's going to be fucking amazing. Props to the animators.

I was going to write a lengthy comment detailing how Jonathan is a musical genius, but someone beat me to it.
Three more things-
1. He made his own genre. 2080's melodic power metal (with some major funk)
2. Starship velociraptor might be a hyperbole of adds pushing sales, or maybe I'm overthinking it. Either way, it's a bitchin' ride, and Jonathan would make a great car salesman, if he didn't have so much soul.
3. Someone give me a link to buy this album please.
Starship Velociraptor... that is the sickest name for an album ever. And a cartoon show that I very much want to be a real thing now.
I second that!
It reminds me a lot of Ninja Sex Party: ridiculous/whimsical themes but awesome music and great singing.
Ninja Brian's appearance and the passing resemblance between the band members and TWRP certainly strengthen the comparison XD

@@Veltosian Same, I keep bouncing back and forth between Hyperspeed, Army of Tigers, and Jetpack Race lol
I completely agree! It was my favorite song on the album!
Your description kinda reminds me of Binks' Sake...

So let's see here... pirates--nay, space pirates, swords, a goddamn army of tigers smiting the evil sun, the best commercial for a starship ever, and countless epic references to speed, distance, and the jetpacks we all want to be able to order on Amazon. The day has come, and we open with S P A C E P I R A T E M E T A L? Hell yeah.
