It was partly Otis' spin. The families of the other members were really upset about that movie. The movie even made it seem like Melvin Franklin (Blue) committed suicide at Otis' mother's house. That wasn't true either. He had a seizure, went into a coma and died. I liked the movie, but most of it was sensationalized fiction.
Can anyone explain more about Paul William's death? Information on internet doesnt make sense. How could he use his right hand to shoot himself on the left side of the head?
Paul was underated. He was my favorite TEMP. No one could sing, "Dont Look Back" like him. He sang from the heart when he sung a song. Eddie, truly was loyal to his friends. To the TEMPS who have passed away, RIP.

I feel it was pertinent to bring light on Paul's health problems in the film/movie, (which was awesome by the way) because prior to this knowledge, I just thought bro. Paul developed a bad booze habit on the road, got out of control with it and committed suicide. Damn, include all relevant facts of someone's personal life, if their story affected the masses of ppl!

@brainsareus.. This could not be more true. People nowadays are holding in so much pain and are putting up such a good facade for family and friends. The social media age I believe has intensified this natural tendency. I'm in Sales, and I have a customer who's 29 year old daughter committed suicide. I used to see her at the front desk when I stopped by his office on business. She never seemed down or the least bit upset. She was always nice, sweet and had a great personality. My customer (the Dad) told me that neither he or anyone else had the slightest idea that she was contemplating this and she always seemed fine. It completely broke my heart when he told me that. She left behind 4 beautiful children too. All you can do is try to love people as much as you can while they are here and be there for them when they need you. Always treat people right.. with respect and dignity. It makes a difference!
I do too. Who You're Gonna Run To, Lonely, Lonely Man Am I. He really should've had more like leads. And the leads he had were worth promoting. I read Otis' book and Richard Street's book. I got a different view of Paul from both. The impression I received from Otis'book was that Paul was a no-show nonsense man. Richard stated that Paul went along to get along. I can't see Paul the way Richard described him. If that was the case, many of the Motown roster was this way. A lot of them knew what was really going on, but didn't say anything until later in books. Some of the posts mention depression. Part of it was probably due to not getting the recognition for his vocals. Imagine starting out as a one of the primary leads and pushed into the background. I love David Ruffin. He had it up until he passed away. But Paul should've been given more leads as well.
As a person who has sickle cell, it bothers me that they didn’t include this in the movie. There are a lot of psychological effects of sickle cell disease. Imagine being so talented and having all these great ideas in your mind yet your body has a mind of its own. In 2020 people STILL don’t know much about sickle cell disease. Imagine suffering in silence without the medical advances we have now that STILL fall short. Imagine saying you don’t feel well and because people can’t physically see your pain, they brush over it holding you to the same standards without accommodations that are often given to those with other ailments. It’s torment. They did not tell his story correctly but I bet no one took the time to truly understand. So he escaped through alcohol which made the disease worse. However, I agree with David Ruffin...make the suicide part make sense. Sounds like homicide 🤷🏽♀️
As someone who also has SCD, I can actually believe the suicide part. I’m not saying those who knew him and doubt it are wrong, because they knew him so they would know best. But the pain of SCD and like you say wanting to do so much but your body constantly failing you, the depression that causes, plus not seeing an end to the pain, a solution for it, that’s enough to just want to end it. To just want peace from your body.

I loved Temptations and Marvin Gaye the best from that label. I remember when the movie aired my aunt's saying how lots of stuff was inaccurate. That's because Otis ass was the one telling the story. He didnt tell his dirt he did. I hated how he portrayed Paul as a fall down drunk that killed himself. He never told the most important thing, his sickle cell. In those days there was not much known about the disease. I was diagnosed at 2 years old in 1972 by the Air Force military hospital overseas. They knew more about it than the states, they told my parents I wouldnt have kids or live pass 40. I think Paul's schedule, traveling and constant dancing on his feet aggravated his illness n he started drinking to try to numb the pain. That lifestyle was surely stressful and stress is the main trigger of a pain crisis. I wish they wouldve been more understanding of his sickness but they were like replace him. Somedays the pain is so bad I cant get out of bed to pee, cant walk or function. Nowadays there is better meds n treatments. He was always my favorite because I understood what he went through. I wished he had more support from his group and label. Maybe he wanted to keep it a secret. That's what Tboz from TLC did. I never told my boyfriends, friends or anybody either because u dont want to be looked at as the sick one n have people feel sorry for you...There will never be a better voice than Paul, Eddie and David. ...shannon b
Keelan Brown Shannon. Thank you so much for your comment! I’m a white woman of 62. I’ve suffered from Lupus, a close cousin SC. It’s horrible, you’re correct. But that film was produced by Susanne De Passé, one of Berry Gordys longtime partners. Don’t blame Otis too much for the misinformation in the movie. De Passé and Gordy are the main influences in that respect. PS. Pray you’re feeling better. ❤️🙏
@@KDL861 Thank you. I thought about it n I just don't like Otis n that's probably why I blamed him so much. I know the higher ups control the group n have their own interest to protect. I felt like he could've been more loyal to him as his friend n group member knowing what he was suffering from. This is nothing new how the outside agitators meddle with the group dynamic. I have a friend who has lupus n I know he struggles having to take steroids so I relate to your pain. During this crisis I hope u r staying home, staying hydrated n staying warm stay safe ,god bless......Shannon b
@@shannondbrown1552 Thank you so much for this!!!! I'm a research hound but I always wondered and KNEW there was way more to Paul Williams than put out to the public and online. Paul always stuck with me and now I know why. 💙
@@d.y.h.w. Of course, you're welcome. I loved learning about the people who made the music that was around before I was born. The best info came from my family members who were around then n told me what was out there back then, priceless stories n info......Shannon b
+Kellan Brown. Otis wrote the book. Someone else did the movie. The book and the movie differs because Otis did not have control over the movie. Maybe if he did, not only would he showed Paul's sickness, but the many times promoters asked him for a refund because David was a no-show for the schedule concerts (too duped up to remember)
I did not know that Paul was sick. I, like many, always thought that he just had alcohol addiction issues. Very informative. While I don’t agree that Paul was the best lead singer of the group (in my book NOBODY will ever be able to touch Ruffin as THE voice of the Temps) I agree that he was very underrated as both a singer and dancer. Thank you for putting this out.
Wow! Now him being an alcoholic puts things in perspective. See it wasn’t told that he suffered from sickle cell anemia and as a result he turned to alcohol 🍺 to ease the pain he was going through. In the book and movie it portrayed him as being just an alcoholic who took one sip and got addicted. I’m now seeing it differently than before I came with little knowledge of mr Paul Williams and come out knowing a lot more about him. Thank you so much for this information.
Paul is my favorite Temptaion. I love all the guys actually!! Paul and David’s deaths were always very odd to me. Even when watching the movie I thought the suicide was very sudden and out of place. Now learning more about MoTown and their artists, I definitely raise an eyebrow to them.
I have sickle cell as well. I'm in so much pain at the moment. He accomplished so much. He & Prodigy really inspire me to go after my goals & dreams! Dealing with excruciating pain isn't easy. My right hip collapsed due to sickle cell so I'm waiting on a hip replacement surgery date.
I was a teenager when Paul died and his death was shocking. Something was off about it. Paul’s life/demons were closing in on him no doubt but nobody believed, totally, what was reported when he died. I wish a creditable, thorough, research driven journalist would write a biography on The Temptations. That biopic on VH1 was good but I think it was adapted from Otis Williams biography of the Temptations. It’s from his point of view how he saw it.
Yes he was murdered and quite frankly I think they all were systematically taken out with the exception of Otis because he was there handlers throughout their career. Rewatch the film in today's times, knowing what we know now and it will all make sense of what destroyed this group. Is it a coincidence the classic five started dying out after their reunion tour? I think not!
@@tenishadorlus8700 You're assuming the movie is the truth. Even Otis says NBC forced a lot that wasn't true. The story around Detroit at the time was he borrowed money from the wrong people and he couldn't make the payments.
Which part was wreckless? This feels like a backhanded condolence... his kids knew their dad well enough for your comment to be disrespectful ...#nojudgmentisnecessary
OTIS MADE PAUL LOOK LIKE A DRUNK WHEN HIS PAIN FROM HIS Sickle cell and he would subside his pain with alcohol and if you believe Otis sick ass the idk wtf 🤷🏽♀️
Eddie is what you call a real friend. He wouldn't join Otis' group unless Paul came along too. Hey i am a new subscriber, i like the vids you do on deceased celebs. I wonder what happened to the guy that played the role of Loco in "South Central". Is he dead??
So Otis old, stankin behind can make up a whole lie about David being tossed out of a car and was a John Doe in the movie, but couldn't reveal that Paul had sickle cell and a suspicious death?? He makes me sick. "Aint nobody comin to see you Otis"!!
Actually, they said some guy who was with David at the crack house dropped him off at the hospital. The hospital had him labeled as a John Doe the first few days because they didn't know who he was. But I don't like how the movie portrayed Paul as just being a drunk.
From my understanding Paul was found dead outside of his car in boxers shorts. It was said that he was chased by his side chics husband who killed him.
One of my favorite groups of all time😢...Much respect to Paul Williams who also had his own Variety show on Tv...Rest Well to All of The Temptations🙏👑💖
@Ben Dover Absolutely. I love the Temps and follow their story. But we have to realize the book and movie must be considered "the Gospel.. According to Otis". Much Love to all the members.
$96,000??? That's plain BULL!!! That family should've gotten more than a couple million out of respect for Paul??? Now.., for those who want to sing in "The Industry"..., this is what they think about you before and after you're gone??? What a joke!!!
I get that, but this settlement was way later and $96,000 is not enough? They made about that much in 3 to 4 checks? Plus we're talking about nearly 10+ albums and Motown made MILLIONS off those Tempations records. On the low end, Paul's family should've received (at least) $500,000 after taxes and no higher than $2 million. That's fair?
It's so obvious to me that Otis Williams is some sort of occultist priest. I think he sacrificed every other Temptation member for his own riches and fame. They all died tragically young, and some died under shaddy/suspicious circumstances. Even Otis' son died tragically...but nobody asks these questions. Think about it...
I loved his voice and I never thought he killed himself. His and Eddie Kendricks voice was a dream team voice and smooth and the Temps needed there voices like the needed all the rest; They were the Temps! I hate they lied about so many singers death; anything to make our people look bad. Open y’all freaking eyes they have played our money til this day. Smiling faces; that’s a song to listen to. R.I.P. Paul Williams 💯
The Temptations Movie Was Incorrect. Paul Williams Didn't Commit Suicide. He Was Murdered By, His Mistress Boyfriend. She Set Him Up, Now This Came From Paul Wife. Regardless I Love Paul Williams, Needs His Own Unsung. A Iconic Legend Period!!!
I’m a 70s baby and when I think of Paul or even watch that movie I cry but when I hear that music that powerful voice I want to dance. You’ll always be missed Mr.Paul Williams😘

Paul Williams was truly my favorite vocalist in the Temptations ensemble. “Don’t Look Back,” was my favorite “Paul” lead. I was about 7 or 8, in 1965, but not too young to remember the impact Motown made in Detroit’s music history, around that time. I still live in Detroit, and still cherish those times when music was created from the same folk who went to school with us, and whom we could see on the streets of Detroit, on any given day. Love you, Paul! R.I.P. 💜💜🎶🎶🎤🤟🏽
Paul was very talented and had an amazing voice I would love to see a documentary or another biopic about his life and the lives of the other temptations but not in the prespective of Otis Williams RIP The Temptations 🙏🏽✝️❤️
Detroit streets in the Grand River Blvd area, always said Paul was escorted out the house in his boxers, forced to drive down the block alongside the gunman. Where the he was killed and found. Some say money some say a jealous ex-boyfriend
kathryn lovejoy Paul Williams had affair with Winnie Brown, who was related to Florence Ballard. Winnie must have had a jealous boyfriend that killed Paul.
for so many years I've always wanted to know of his story thank you for doing your research and clearing up this mystery I've always wanted to know if Paul was killed or if you really killed himself I also never knew that Paul had a illness. Thank you. After watching this video you just gained one more subscriber
I'm a huge Paul Williams fan. His cover of "For Once in My Life" is still my favorite Temps song. I also love "Don't Look Back," "I Want a Love I Can See," "No More Water in the Well," "Oh, Mother of Mine," "Who You Gonna Run To," and "Gonna Give Her All The Love I've Got." ... I think the only other voice I like just as much is that of the late, great Levi Stubbs (The Four Tops).
RIP 😇 Paul, MY FAVORITE TEMP. Only GOD knows about your demise. If it was foul play, may HIS wrath reign down on these evil doers. BUT your velvet voice does and will live on! 💗 you and the original fab 5! The greatest talented musical voices of all time!
I have sickle cell disease too. I'm having a sickle cell pain crisis. Watching your videos to distract myself from the pain until my pain pills kick in. I also have a collapsed right hip that I'm waiting to have a hip replacement for. I tried making a go fund me for donations toward the hip surgery but it wasn't successful. Sickle cell is so freakin painful!
The Temptations mini series was very entertaining but was not truthful at all. Otis tried to make it seem as though he only sought out Josephine to work on that marriage but he didn't talk about how he got remarried and had other babies during that time. David was married with kids and so was Eddie. Blue didn't die in his mother's house... It was one big lie but was entertaining. Paul was murdered, point blank period.
I love the Temptations!!!! They are the most popular singing groups of all time!!!! All the greatest hits they made are timeless!!!! That's they're legacy!!!! 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎼

"If it's Love that you're running from. there's no hiding place." Paul's greatest performance if you ask me. He owns that sing!
Paul Williams Sr. , heart and soul of the tempts
His voice was outstanding. My favorite temptation... miss him
Paul is my favorite Temptaion. I love all the guys actually!! Paul and David’s deaths were always very odd to me. Even when watching the movie I thought the suicide was very sudden and out of place. Now learning more about MoTown and their artists, I definitely raise an eyebrow to them.
@Toni Sumblin yes he was speeding up his disease. Aunt died of sickle cell anemia by her 45th birthday. Very painful
According to David Ruffin's daughter on Unsung, he died in a hospital!

I like Paul 😍..he was very underated, God love and bless his soul, Paul Williams ❤️
A talented man is truly missed. Sad to say he was kill but God has the last word in this man's demise.
Paul Williams was, and will always be, my favorite Temptation.
Rest IN POWER PAUL WILLIAMS MAY UR LEGACY LIVE ON IN OUR HEARTS, AMEN TODAY SUCH A TRAGEDY
I believe that his ailments, affairs, being out of the group, drinking and the Motown machine was way too much on him.
This is a great presentation! Paul was murdered, and it's unbelievable that anyone would think otherwise.
Awwww
The temptations still kept Paul on payroll after he fell sick!♥️
He was Murdered.....SMH, just plain Evil!
By who
Barry Gordy paid for the hit
Yes he was murdered and quite frankly I think they all were systematically taken out with the exception of Otis because he was there handlers throughout their career. Rewatch the film in today's times, knowing what we know now and it will all make sense of what destroyed this group. Is it a coincidence the classic five started dying out after their reunion tour? I think not!
Does sound like he was murdered
@@tenishadorlus8700 You're assuming the movie is the truth. Even Otis says NBC forced a lot that wasn't true. The story around Detroit at the time was he borrowed money from the wrong people and he couldn't make the payments.
Paul seemed to have lived a very reckless & short life 😢
My Condolences to his children who had to grow up without a father 💔
Which part was wreckless? This feels like a backhanded condolence... his kids knew their dad well enough for your comment to be disrespectful ...#nojudgmentisnecessary
@Joshua Mills Nigga, stop spamming. Don't nobody wanna see you, Otis!🤣
OTIS MADE PAUL LOOK LIKE A DRUNK WHEN HIS PAIN FROM HIS Sickle cell and he would subside his pain with alcohol and if you believe Otis sick ass the idk wtf 🤷🏽♀️
Love you Paul. Thanks for the group, the moves and the music bro. You want be forgotten bro.
He was the voice to me. Very soulful. More feeling in it. Like you felt what he felt. Fave song Don't Look Back
His voice is amazingly beautiful. David Ruffin, however was the BEST LEAD for the Temptations.
Eddie is what you call a real friend. He wouldn't join Otis' group unless Paul came along too. Hey i am a new subscriber, i like the vids you do on deceased celebs. I wonder what happened to the guy that played the role of Loco in "South Central". Is he dead??
You do know that Google is actually your friend?

So Otis old, stankin behind can make up a whole lie about David being tossed out of a car and was a John Doe in the movie, but couldn't reveal that Paul had sickle cell and a suspicious death?? He makes me sick. "Aint nobody comin to see you Otis"!!
My thought, how did he know David was thrown out of a car? Who witness that??
Actually, they said some guy who was with David at the crack house dropped him off at the hospital. The hospital had him labeled as a John Doe the first few days because they didn't know who he was. But I don't like how the movie portrayed Paul as just being a drunk.
That's why it's called a movie it's not all based on facts it's meant for entertainment not reality. Also David was originally labeled a John doe

From my understanding Paul was found dead outside of his car in boxers shorts. It was said that he was chased by his side chics husband who killed him.
Paul had a serious affair with Patti Labelle.
This makes the most sense

@Ben Dover Absolutely. I love the Temps and follow their story. But we have to realize the book and movie must be considered "the Gospel.. According to Otis". Much Love to all the members.
Not at all
Not close at all I think it should have said "THIS is Otis point of view"
And Paul Williams didnt go for the group being called THE TEMPTATIONS at first
Movies rarely are
$96,000??? That's plain BULL!!! That family should've gotten more than a couple million out of respect for Paul???
Now.., for those who want to sing in "The Industry"..., this is what they think about you before and after you're gone??? What a joke!!!
Look at the times the 60's. That's a lot of money back then
I get that, but this settlement was way later and $96,000 is not enough? They made about that much in 3 to 4 checks? Plus we're talking about nearly 10+ albums and Motown made MILLIONS off those Tempations records. On the low end, Paul's family should've received (at least) $500,000 after taxes and no higher than $2 million. That's fair?
@@mrstonejack23 royalty are not paid like if he performed much lower when they pass away

@@tgrice601 but the narrator didnt specify whether that amount was in today's money or the value at the time of his death. it makes a huge difference.
I love how he sing Don’t Look Back
RIP Paul Williams of The Temptations
I loved his voice and I never thought he killed himself. His and Eddie Kendricks voice was a dream team voice and smooth and the Temps needed there voices like the needed all the rest; They were the Temps! Rip paul..your talent is truly missed..the temps are my favorite!!!
R.I.P. 💜💜🎶🎶🎤🤟🏽

Paul was NOT underrated!! One of the greatest performers ever. A star. Those who remember the original Tempts know this.
