With Russian central bank’s report showing interest rates at 22% but some other Russian citizens think it could closer to 25%. I hear tak of the average person only making 400-600 rubles to be making 1,000 rubles is rare(er) and if im not mistaken the ruble just took a massive dump. Im third generation Russian/American and i got other Russian friends that go between both places. There telling me its hard in Russia right now for the average person. Is all that seem accurate?
@erichill7183 You have to take into account that Russians do not live off of credit ccards debts as they do in the US. In mmost of countriesit is rare that people buy groceries and other essential stuff with credit ccardsdebt. MMost of peopledo not have credit cards or bank loans, people own their houses so they do not need to pay mortgages. In other words the iinterestsrates are insignificant.
Light, hot and cold water, central heating, gas, sewerage, garbage collection, Wi-Fi Internet and all this costs me $ 40, the apartment is owned. Internet for the phone-$3. There are two cars in the family, gasoline costs 60 cents per 1 liter. Bread costs 20-40 cents. Milk costs 40-50 cents. Sugar costs 50 cents per 1 kg. My salary is 1.5 thousand $ plus a little less for my wife. This is in a Russian province where there are 4 food and 3 industrial supermarkets, plus dozens of shops, two gas stations, two clinics, a hospital, 4 kindergartens, two schools and a job nearby. And all this is within walking distance within a radius of 1.5-3 kilometers. Taxes in Russia 13-15%
The smaller Russian towns are amazing easily the best places to live in the world. I'm in Kaluga. Same prices as you described. 2 hr 15:min from center of moscow

In the Netherlands a student apartment (bedroom/sittingroom + bathroom) is approx. 750-1000 Euro per month. A normal apartment with 2 bedrooms is 1600-2000 Euro per month. In Amsterdam or the Hague one has to pay 2500-4000 Euro per month... Ridiculous as well as unacceptable......
Same in the UK... I'm aware a lot of people 40 & under are moving back in with their parents....😮 My next door neighbour has their 40 year old son back. He told me rents in Leeds had gone up from £650 for a two bed house, to £1200 in the last year or so.

I don’t support or respect them. Their political apathy and lack of backbone has led to years of growing oppression and misery, first for themselves and now a hundred times over for their neighbouring country. Ultimately, people get the government they deserve. Until Russians stand up for themselves they will remain a downtrodden and fundamentally broken people in a broken country.

I live in a crappy little town in the middle of nowhere with no buses, no metro, no jobs, pretty much nothing. And it still costs more to live here than in the center of Moscow.
@ thank you so much! I dream of seeing Russia someday. I’m in mad love with the architecture and landscape. I’d think about moving there but I’m older with health issues, I don’t see that happening unfortunately
Really useful and interesting. Goes to show that the expression " rip-off Britain " is well deserved. The UK was ranked in the top 5 of the worst tax hells of the world about 10 years ago. It's way worse now. I'm glad Russia is doing well
Russian men only live to about 67 on average (EU average is 81), 19% of homes don’t even have indoor plumbing, inflation’s through the roof, and old folks’ pensions are a joke. Meanwhile, Putin and his buddies are stuffing their pockets. Russia’s basically a gas station with nukes. Yeah, everyone is doing "well".
Plus temperature in Russian flats is 20-25 degrees minimum. It is very warm. I live in UK and temperature in houses is between 15 to 20 degrees. I still don't understand how to live in 15 degrees.

There are a lot places which are more developed and with better medicine. Did you saw statistic, how many ppl UK lost each winter because of cold and high prices? From 20 to 40 thousands!

I read about much higher renting costs that actually scared me. Paying £750/month to cover pretty much everything in a capital city is great. I pay £1,500 to stay in Swiss Cottage London (rent only) and you know how things are developing in London. It is turning into a shithole, but at the moment I can't leave.
@@user-co4ke8tf7 Yeah I know, renting prices are at least double than other cities, but still affordable compared with EU capital cities, at least as long as the ruble value is so low. Therefore factoring in the currency exchange risk is important. Ruble was three times higher than now compared with GBP a few years ago.
Your £15 water reminded me of a London restaurant where the waiter suggested the "house" wine. Usually that is reasonably priced.. Not in Bow Street. It turned out to be £30 (in 2001). Their definition of a house wine was to choose one of tneir fine wines and hope no-one asked tbe price. Good video.

No... Most Russians rent apartments becuse they cannot afford buying a appartment that cost 5-10 million rub... And that is also expensive as fuck if you are single in a big city.
К сожалению, не хочу вас критиковать, но это немного не так! Я видел очень мало бездомных в Москве, и их всегда забирает полиция или социальные службы... а еще есть русские, которые сдают свои квартиры - я знаю некоторых, и это реальный факт!

We take a vacation every year, normally Europe or the Caribbean. We're not rich, we're not poor. In the US we have very very rich people and homeless people. In the past 30 years this divide has gotten worse and I hope we can fix that. We're thinking of retiring to Europe, enjoy your life in Russia.

Is it safe in Moscow atm with all the rubbish we are being fed about Russia ? I lived in China for a couple of years and absolutely loved it. How easy is it with visas etc
Something like in China or Japan - safe places. Criminal level below of EU/US. Especially in Moscow. Women can walk during night alone, there are no "no go zones" in cities. In some regions criminal level is so law, that people even not close doors on own cars. Visas - for some countries no needs of it, for some you can get one just online, for some - you need to go to local embassy. It is based on level of friendship between countries.
Look, Russia is on the same planet, however, there are differences. First of all, Russia is a high trust society. What that means is pretty much the majority of people are law abiding, so it might be difficult to understand from a western point of view. Think of it like Japan. You won't jaywalk, since nobodys jaywalking. You won't litter, if nobody litters. Same with crime. You might get killed in any county on the earth. But statistically speaking, getting mugged in Russia as a tourist is the same chances of getting bit by a shark in Egypt or getting hit by lightning in Himalayas. Not saying that isn't possible, just saying if that happened to you, that was likely your destiny. If you need info about the visas, provide additional context. All the best!
We went through the central train stations in Moscow & Saint Petersburg last year. People would literally leave their phones charging and walk off for 5-10+ minutes. No way you could do that here in NZ, without it getting stolen. Kinda sums up Russian society
$580 for a decent apartment near the city center of one of the biggest cities in Russia?!! In 2024?😱 I remember I was renting an apartment a few years back in a small, run-down neighborhood (there were literally homeless living and doing drugs in the parking lot outside the building) near Philadelphia, US. The apartment was a lot like yours one-bed, one-bath, decent condition. I was paying $900/month not including bills. Nowadays, the rent's probably even more with inflation.🙄
If you are not a visitor who rents an apartment, but a RESIDENT of Moscow, then you have your own apartment and you do not have to pay $580. Your housing will cost you $50 per month. This needs to be taken into account.

Compared to the cost of living in California, that is amazing. I've been thinking about moving to Russia for about a year now. So I want to go to Russia for about a month to get a feel for it and practice my Russian, but there aren't any flights from CA to Russia (because of the war I suppose). What do you think of that? Is there a way around that problem?
I'm in London and we have a similar issue. You can fly via places like Istanbul or Belgrade. But once you are in Russia none of your bank cards will work (Visa, Mastercard). So you need cash for everything. I really want to visit Moscow and St P but will wait to see what happens this year with travel and potential easing of sanctions.

What about taxes? Like sales tax, income tax and so on? Like where I live in 🇺🇸we pay .075$ in sales tax, and then there is gasoline tax which makes up probably cost to 1/2 the total cost of a gallon of gasoline.
Income tax/ pension stuff/etc are paid for by your employer and are almost never included in job listings - 99.9% of them show you your net-pay. If you see a salary of 100k rubles, that means that you will get 100k rubles on your bank account each month. You don't have to pay additional taxes on it, all 100k are yours to spend. Sales tax is included in product price - if a loaf of bread in supermarket is 40 rubles, you will pay 40 rubles at checkout.
@ thanks you for explaining 👍👍 over here if my gross pay is $75000.00 my net pay is like $55000.00 but when I file my income taxes it’s on the gross amount and then I end up paying more tax because I didn’t have enough taken out over the year, which why would anyone give the 🇺🇸government an interest free loan just to waste it on nonsense!
@@Impeach44 Well, i heard that in other countries people have more tax deductions. Here you get them if you have a mortgage or children (and in few other special cases). But i do like our (Russian) tax system - never had to file a tax form in my entire life :-)
The USN or simplified tax system is a tax regime that employs more than half of small businesses. By choosing this system, the taxpayer receives simple reporting, a low tax rate and the opportunity to reduce tax due to paid insurance premiums. The USN Income option is especially popular for entrepreneurs without employees, because with a small income, the tax can be reduced completely, i.e. to zero. We'll show you how to do this using the examples below, but first learn about the main features of USN 2024. The most important thing about USN 2024 There are two tax objects in the simplified system: income, standard rate of 6%; income reduced by the amount of expenses, the standard rate is 15%. The standard tax rates mentioned above can be reduced by regional laws: up to 1% on average Income and up to 5% on average Income minus expenses. For example, in one of the regions, the standard rate is 6% for average Income and only 5% for average Income minus expenses, but only for construction. As you can see, the second option is more profitable, even if the share of costs is small. By setting such preferential rates for certain types of activities, the authorities seek to develop a particular area in their region, most often manufacturing or construction. Therefore, before choosing a simplified taxation object, study the regional law, it is possible that a preferential rate applies to your type of activity. You can find out these features in the Federal Tax Service or the economic department of the local administration. The main limitation to the ability to use a simplified system is related to the amount of income received per year. The standard limit in 2024 is 199.35 million rubles. Another important limitation is set for the number of employees - no more than 100 people. In principle, most individual entrepreneurs fulfill these conditions, so they have the right to work under a simplified regime. In addition, other (increased) limits also apply to the USN: 265.8 million rubles and 130 employees. At the same time, those who find themselves in the corridor between the standard and increased limits pay tax at a higher rate: 8% on average Income and 20% on average Income minus expenses. How to pay taxes in a simplified system Personal income tax on business income is not paid to the USN. VAT, in addition to the one that is paid when goods are imported into the territory of the Russian Federation, is also not charged. The main tax is calculated based on the results of the calendar year and entrepreneurs must pay it no later than April 28 next year. In addition, accounting periods have been set during the year, according to the results of which it is necessary to pay part of the tax in advance, i.e. in advance. These payments are called advance payments. Deadlines for their payment: for the first quarter - April 28; for the first half of the year - July 28; for nine months - October 28. This is the official name of the accounting periods related to the calculation methodology, but in practice it is easier to assume that advance payments are made for each quarter. Moreover, they should be paid only if the entrepreneur received income in the reporting quarter. If there was no income, then there is no need to pay anything. All advance payments that were paid during the year are taken into account when calculating the tax for the year. In addition, every entrepreneur, regardless of the chosen tax regime, is required to pay insurance premiums for himself. These payments also reduce the amount of tax.
Work in former McDonald - 65 000 rubles. Pointless to convert money to dollars and try to estimate is it a lot or not. Prices is different, spendings also very different. Also being local (in 95% cases means already with apartments in own property) and foreign (who have nothing) - also is very different situation. Local from this salary will spend just 1/2 or 2/3 and rest will accumulate for future, while foreigner will be forced to spend everything for apartments and need more. Btw, Russia for foreign workers is second by popularity after US. There are near 27 millions of foreign workers.

50 euro for all utilities? In Croatia it's only enough for electricity. If you don't heat apartment with electricity of course. Crappy apartment with one room is obout 600 euros. Plus utilities of course. Average salary is 1200 euro on month.
Most Russians own their apartments, even alcoholics and drug addicts own their accommodation. In 1980-90s there was a huge program of free Privatisation when millions of Russians got their apartments they used to live in for free. Travellers and foreigners rent accommodation which is considered to be expensive.
You never mentioned how many sq metres your 2 room apartment is and whether it has an open or enclosed balcony. This is most important to judge value for money.
Is rural living in Russia as iffy as I've seen in other videos? Doesn't appear that Russian's adopted subdivisions, where everything is plumbed and paved. Kinda looks like the wild West where people just build houses wherever. If that's case, I'd most certainly have to live in a large city.
Jim, I was paying for a run down apartment in Mandurah $350 per week three years ago. It had a nice view of the bay. They call Australia the lucky country😂Haha 🇿🇦🇦🇺🇬🇪🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺
If you are not a visitor who rents an apartment, but a RESIDENT of Moscow, then you have your own apartment and you do not have to pay $580. Your housing will cost you $50 per month. This needs to be taken into account. In Russia, everyone has their own private apartments and houses. ONLY visitors pay for rent. Even the last drunkard owns an apartment.

I live in a 3br apartment in Moscow (just 30 min from kitai gorod), my utility bills this month accounted for 6,600 rub (electric, water, gas). Ethernet and mobile are around ~500 rub each. All that accounts for a whooping 67.86 USD today. As for the taxis, please be aware Uber is a thing in Moscow and for some routes is routinely cheaper than Yandex Go. Uber IS Yandex here, go figure. The high interest rate is not going to help you save money, in fact, it would be smart to spend it as fast as possible ideally on things that going to inflate with currency - assets, tools and education. Stress SHA-bolovskaya, the first syllable (not Shabo-LO-vskya)
I don't think it would be economically viable for me to move Russian because I think my salary is now here better than it would be there. Also varying currency of ruble is question mark even. Even if you would get let's say equivalent of 5000 €/month as rubles, if exchange rate falls, then this equivalence doesn't apply money earned before. If they paid, however, that in euros, it would be more appealing. But I guess that is not an option. So only way me to move to Russia would be that I would do distance work there and get paid from abroad. But I guess that's not an option either (at least number of employers accepting that would be small in my field of business). So. Summa summarum. I continue visit Russia as a tourist, for me that is best option.

I read about much higher renting costs that actually scared me. Paying £750/month to cover pretty much everything in a capital city is great.
Maximal safety (for all), it's true
How much garbage does Russia say about other countries as well because they are just as bad as other countries

You would need to check with a lawer on tax. Once you spend ovet 180 days in Russia you become tax resident in Russia so technically you might be able to pay tax under Russian law to avoid double taxation (better check with lawer)

You can fly to Georgia 🇬🇪 and then from there to Moscow
Californians here. Traveled to Belarus on vacation via Vilnius, Lithuania. Cheaper than going through Istanbul. Had to take a bus to cross the border, was ok. Beautiful country and people. It’s an hour flight from Minsk to Moscow. Easy-peasy

What about taxes? Like sales tax, income tax and so on? Like where I live in 🇺🇸we pay .075$ in sales tax, and then there is gasoline tax which makes up probably cost to 1/2 the total cost of a gallon of gasoline.
No sales tax afaik. Income tax is 13%
Income tax/ pension stuff/etc are paid for by your employer and are almost never included in job listings - 99.9% of them show you your net-pay.
The most important thing about USN 2024
There are two tax objects in the simplified system:
income, standard rate of 6%;
income reduced by the amount of expenses, the standard rate is 15%.
How to pay taxes in a simplified system
Personal income tax on business income is not paid to the USN.
Deadlines for their payment:
for the first quarter - April 28;
for the first half of the year - July 28;
for nine months - October 28.
What would the average wage for a low paid job be, ( somthing like supermarket worker, fast food worker) just out of curiosity. Great video bud.
in Moscow it is around 500-900$, not much, but much bigger than in smaller cities. But if you are for example courier you can get 1000$+
Work in former McDonald - 65 000 rubles.
