- the shadow music from the soundtrack composed by Jerry Goldsmith 1994
contains the palace, the bridge, stay back, the sanctum, the hotel,....
cool theme, good score, bad movie
I loved this movie growing up. I had the action figures and the movie on VHS. I don’t care what the critics say, this is a good one to me.
Agreed 100 percent...some time around the year 1982, Isomehow acquired a cassette recording of an original live radio broadcast and I was intrigued.....when I saw this movie in 94, I thought it was the best movie ever
After the film you just want to be shadow ❤
The opening reveal of the Shadow on the brooklyn bridge is perhaps one of the best sequence in the film and gives me goosebumps every time
Same…also great is his reveal on the top of the stairs of the Monarch Hotel.
Props to the audio department for making The Shadow seem up close but everywhere. Especially in Duke's ear.
@@brianmurphy250 the monolith 😉
@@brianmurphy250 I loved that scene
Imagine the Brooklyn Bridge opening with his cape flowing in the background. That was shown in the music video for this movie.
Jerry Goldsmith knows.
I think it was a terribly underrated film. Possibly one of the best of its genre, I've seen.
absolutely love this film, score, acting , design everything
Amazing movie, one of best. And better than any movies nowadays. I was grown on it
Excellent production design and score, but the story was lacking and Alec Baldwin was less than engaging as the protagonist.
I still need to see it
@@dreamlandnightmare people keep saying the plot was "weak" but I'm not seeing it.
As for Alex Baldwin, I guess that is a matter of taste. I thought he did really well, but he's not as immediately charismatic as some other pulp heroes, sure.
Goldsmith really outdid himself with this one, IMO. Completely captured the feel of that classic pulp/radio hero.
I wonder if Goldsmith read the original stories in the 30s? His music sounds modern but could have been from the Golden Age too, this is something I imagine Bernard Herrmann composing.
One of the most underrated movies of ALL TIME
Jerry Goldsmith had such a great balance of orchestra and synthesizer in his scores.
Hell yes!
Yes the truth and it has a very dark feel to it the type to give u a spine tingling feeling
He absolutely did and it’s sad that he’s no longer around 😔😭
This character is way more deserving of a reboot than spiderman or the hulk
I loved the movie as well, and after having listened to a couple of episodes of the radio series, I'd love to see a reboot.
I think the problem with The Shadow is, AFAIK, there are no comic books or other forms of media currently produced for it. When the movie was released, I don't recall seeing any comic books out for it at the time. Not many people had heard of The Shadow except the elderly at the time (60+), who grew up listening to the radio series, and younger generations who would have heard about it from that generation. The Internet was still a brand new thing, so there wouldn't have been any way to listen to the old shows. If you were lucky, your local library might have had some episodes on cassette tape or CD, or you might could find a recording or two in some catalog or music store. If you were lucky.
Nowadays with the Internet being more widespread, and there being more content available, I think it could get more exposure. I know there are websites out there with old episodes of those old radio series uploaded somewhere; all it would take is a quick Google search. I wouldn't be surprised seeing some here on UA-cam.
A couple of weeks or so ago, a coworker who grew up listening to the series quoted the famous opening lines. I don't know how it came to that, but it did. He said, "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of man?" and I instantly responded, "Only The Shadow knows!" then did the maniacal laugh. He told me I was too young to know that. I told him I used to have XM a while back, and had listened to a couple of episodes on the Old-Time Radio Classics channel.
There is many Shadow comic books. Dynamite entertainment made him even more badass in their various series.
if only Jerry Goldsmith will do the music for that movie
@@PatrickRsGhost There are books from the shadow
I really hope they don't, he is a great character but keep out of the grimy hands of Hollywood and the modern comic writers most of whom can't.write a story to save their lives
This film and The Rocketeer are my two favourite 90s superhero films, James Horner and Jerry were at their peak.
Don't forget The Phantom.
very underrated film in my opinion!
I love the way they kept The Shadow, The Phantom, The Rocketeer, X-men: First Class,Captain America: The First Avenger and Batman: The animated series; in they're era of how they started.
#yes yes amen
Same your absolutely correct I love this theme so much.
Jerry Goldsmith, the man that surpassed in his music the films that he scored
What a great score by Jerry Goldsmith, the first time I ever saw this film was in 1999 when I was 4yo and it was a childhood favorite of mine, and still is at this time!!
I first saw it in theaters when it first came out and still a favorite of mine to this day
"Every fiend imagines himself thus...Splendid, special, and unique. When in fact, evil is common and scruffy as the basest weed.
*_THE SHADOW KNOWS!"_* ~ _"Grendel vs. The Shadow" Graphic Novel_
Saw it in the theaters and I thought it was great. I was truly surprised when it wasn't that well received. Weird thing is that I saw it in NYC and the theater was packed. Could hardly find a seat. I guess the rest of America wasn't that into it. Still a great film.
NYC is basically where all superheroes hangout, even in DC the cities of Gotham and Metropolis are based on NY. Gotham is the dingy art deco side of NYC whilst Metropolis is the shining ideal.
Weird but extremely well executed movie, with one of the best soudtracks ever heard. An honest homage to the serials with some fine references to both the radio and pulp roots of the character.
#great fun
"I don't think there is a Shadow. I think somebody made him up to get more people to listen to the radio."
-Oh, God I dreamed.
-So did I. What did you dream?
-I was lying naked on a beach in the South Seas. The tide was coming up to my toes. The sun was beating down. My skin hot and cool at the same time. It was wonderful. What was yours?
-I dreamed I tore all the skin off my face and was somebody else underneath.
-You have problems.
-I'm aware of that.
I love that scene.
Me too....scary
wish we got to see the other dream, honestly.
@@Starhartdeer Rather not, lol.
Jerry Goldsmith at the top of his game.
This and many others, including Star Trek: The Motion Picture main theme. Cheers...
This theme fits the film perfectly. Gives an air of mystery and intrigue.
When you realize the Shadow's iconic costume is what everyone had to wear in 2020...
"That is a very attractive tie. Would you mind if I asked where you purchased it?""Brooks Brothers. On 5th....YOU...are a barbarian."
Gosh, this film. I loved it growing up, but even as a kid I loved the soundtrack about 20 times more.
An amazing soundtrack for an amazing (and underrated) movie, by God.
Canalus Except The Shadow gets beat down every 5 seconds. The Shadow from dynamite comics is a genius, master marksmen and expert martial artist and has his unique powers. Good film still though that just showcases his powers.
Ive replayed this vid like 50 times, love this movie and its soundtrack
My childhood... Amazing movie, incredible soundtrack :D
This whole movie hits so many notes: Classy, beautiful, suave, funny, menacing, fun, sexy, silly, dark. Everything Shiwan Khan is, actually. Outstanding soundtrack, gorgeous colour processing, fantastic costume design (Margot Lane's silk cocktail gown has to be one of the greatest dresses in cinema history). Delightful blend of Eastern martial arts mysticism and lore and the exciting, bustling grunge of New York's roaring 40s. All the support cast smash their individual roles, giving memorable performances even with one line. Every now and then I have another hankering to watch The Shadow again, and every time I'm reminded again just how good it is. The Shadow may have disappeared into the unseen corners of movie history, but it's always lurked in a specual place in my heart. 😊🎩💣
SUPERB score by the great Jerry Goldsmith! He was a genius. ❤
all time classic..film & theme...captures the mystery man of the 30's.
yes #great music for a classic character played by an amazing actor #alec baldwin
I love this score. I love this film. I have a lot of friends who were martial artists who were in this as well as Big Trouble in Little China. Jerry Goldsmith is unlike any other film composer. And film proves that Bob Kane got Batman from this character.
Alec Baldwin so handsome in this and those beautiful blue eyes.
All I can say is thank you Jerry Goldsmith for composing this, and thank you @DaneTheConquerer for uploading this wonderful music!
This was so inspiring it actually helped me start writing my book.
Happy 30th Anniversary to The Shadow
Saw this movie on opening weekend in '94. The theater i saw it in had just finished upgrading their audio systems and Jerry Goldsmiths score knocked my socks off it sounded so incredible. The movie itself is an underrated gem but Jerry's score truly elevated the experience 10 fold in my opinion. One of my favorite movie going experiences.
I like this film good movie. The Shadow is a pretty awesome character with unique powers.
This brings back memories of my childhood no-doubt. I love it!
I loved this movie. I thought it paid homage to not only the Shadow but the image of the '30s's as well. The atmosphere and the music were great.
Can we please get a Shadow Netflix series or something?
I hope so and make him the way Garth Ennis did for dynamite entertainment. I would say make him master martial artist, master marksman, immortal, powerful telepath, powerful telekinetic and genius level intellect. That is combining what everybody has done with him. Garth Ennis did this and it is epic.
would agree with everything but being immortal i really like the way he is portrayed in the comic series the shadow strikes. it ran for a bit and is really good.
okay
it's in the works!
Right? I've been saying this for years now. How great would that be?
This movie should be remaked it deserve that.Just like the all marvel characters the shadow has it's own story !!
Dark Man was based on the Shadow, Sam Raimi loved the character but didn't have the rights, and so did his own character. There has been talk about a new Shadow film, but it never goes anywhere. It would be perfect to do one now, with so many other comic characters, people want something new and different.
there's 10 people with evil lurking in their heart.
very underrated movie, I loved this as a teenager, wanted a sequel so bad.
this is a great double feature with the rocketeer.
now it's 21
One of my favorite movies,it was criminally underrated.
my childhood. great movie of all time. thanks to this film, you can start doing meditation and learn to read other people's thoughts)))
Loved the film, loved the soundtrack, loved the pulp novels.
Oh This is Jerry Goldsmith's , no wonder so captivating.
I might have said this before but I think great movie and the score is very, fitting! Jerry is amazing but also, I think the cast was and is cool. Alec was perfect and also others. If some do not like this movie, it is ok, I love this! Cheers...
If they ever do a remake, I would suggest getting Christopher Drake to do the score. His finest work to date has been the BAS and the Dark Knight Returns part 1 and 2.
Yeah, hed be perfect
Can you imagine a 2021 version of The Shadow 🤩 like a Doctor Strange with a Great Gatsby time era Vibe. Omg possibilities if someone was to take this up like James Cameron, Snyder, or the Russo Brothers 🤩🙌 I am super hyped and the concept not even been had yet, I'm sitting here ecstatic over the notion lol 😆
Great movie.
Amazing - kick-ass movie and incredible score by one of the masters. Where are all of the good melodies like these nowadays?? You will hum this for days, but will forget Hans Zimmer's score to The Dark Knight...although both are equally effective
I love the "thoomp" sound Goldsmith adds in this score...especially during the slower parts.
(I think the score is a bit better than the movie, though).
I think that may be a water jug, or something similar, but I could be wrong on that. If you fill it just right and blow across the lip you can get a similar tone.
Goldsmith's scores for ALIEN and THE OMEN are very different, but also eerie in their own way. Elfman's '89 BATMAN score is similar to this in tone. Maybe look up the soundtrack from the 1980 film THE CHANGELING for a haunting piano score.
This is great movie, i must watch it again.
you are welcome, Goldsmith always inspires!!
I am thinking of using some music from the soundtrack as a backing for my entrance at the DragonCon "Page to the Stage" cosplay contest this year. Pretty excited.
Jerry Goldsmith always delivered. He made such bangers.
I liked this movie.
Killer movie with one of the best soundtracks ever, thank you for sharing this!
People do this shadow and run people's minds all the time it was a good movie. Song she was singing when they walk into the evening dinner place also true. I loved this movie. I think that most people should guard their minds anyway even if cloud minding is supposed to only be from Asia. Electra was also a good movie. All these things are true.
Claira Grace 🤔
This SCORE is amazing. Jerry Goldsmith - the maestro - does it again. Legend (no pun intended). :-)
The sun is shining...

The Shadow (1994)
Both music and movie is amazing.Thank you for sharing this with us
Awesome movie.
I love this movie.
Only the Shadow knows!
Great score from Jerry Goldsmith and I also for some reason, liked the movie. I think the lead was great there. Cheers...
My most favourite film of my childhood)
now I see where Bethesda got the Inspiration for the Silver Shroud in Fallout 4 the is the kind of Vigilante I would wanna be the Shadow reminds me of Batman
Well the shadow was one of the main inspiration in the making of the caracther Batman alongside Zorro. :)
+Dominick Angel my stupid auto correct causes me to mispell sometimes and I dont notice it til its to late
Batman's original comics were virtual plagiarism of the Shadow pulp novel illustrations, as well as much of the pulp novel's content.
One of the most underrated films and one of the best Alec Baldwin performances. It had the worst luck ever as in its first 3 weeks of release it had to contend with The Lion King, Forrest Gump & True Lies which just sank it into obscurity. I think it would be great to see them do a Netflix series with it or giving it a new lease of life as it stands as a great pulp fiction piece
The Sun is Shining.
But
The Ice is Slippery.
Love that little secret code for Shadow familiars to identify each other.
One of Baldwins best movies!
I like how Goldsmith gave the theme a deliberately Danny-Elfman-touch, as far as hero music themes go. Here he sounded kinda like Elfman without ripping him off.
" O Sol está brilhando ,mas o gelo continua escorregadio "
"Hahahahah....hahahahahahah...HAHAHAHAHAH"
WHAT A GREAT FILM, WITH THE PERFECT SCORE!
THE SHADOW KNOWS! HAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHA!
How will you know where I am?I'LL know.
Hahahahahahhahahahahahahahaha
Tallk to your Shadow 🔑see alive life🔑
What a great movie and a great Theme.
The soundtrack es very good. Epic. Fantastic!!!! I like me
This score made the movie for me
"The weed of crime bears bitter fruit." (Wicked laughter)
The Shadow needs his own point and click game. TellTale, get on that shit!
Great soundtrack!Epic!
Tom Hiddleston as the the shadow would be perfect
tyrone Powell Good call!
tyrone Powell or Crispin Glover. But then Glover would be perfect in a lot of things.
+Fabrice D* Russell Crowe. Or Tom Cruise he really throws himself into the role. But Alec Baldwin ruined this entire movie because he couldn't take it seriously.
Omar Khatib wow u really said that the shadow was a great movie despite alic Baldwins terrible acting
Cable
I listen to this and imagine what Goldsmith would have done with an MCU score.
AMAZING SOUNDTRACK
LOVE this movie! Just ordered my Blu-Ray copy this week! :)

i gotta say that i kinda hate that dc did not have the forethought to start the dc movie universe with the golden age, could have introduced alot of younger kids to way older heroes and built apon it from there into the silver, bronze and modern age. it would have been great. could have even bought up other properties to help add to there starting line up.
Indeed the Golden age was my favourite next to the Bronze and modern age, when they did Crisis on Infinite Earths I'm sure many fans were happy, but there is just a wonderful quality to the Golden age heroes that can't be replicated today.
Musica bellissima ed indovinatissima.
Great score and movie. Love all the horn sliding effects. And the main theme is really cool, I had to stop the movie and figure out what chords he was playing.
That's Jerry
Thank you for this!
The Shadow was the first dark knight.
Epic music!
LOVE this movie. Dont care what anyone says.
I love that recurring cosmic whoosh sound in the main theme!
Great movie, Great Tracks through and through XD thanks for the upload XD
Great soundtrack ❤👍
wow... just discovered this... fantastic choices... gonna share this
Like Bond, the next film can be unrelated, but the music better be the same. Matt Wagner writing would also be best.
