I love all Mozart operas, but this one is to “go to” when we are frustrated with realities of our far from fairy tale lives. I agree with many here- its one of the best performances of Zauberflöte! On a funny note: Herr Mozart hated his mother in law- Frau Weber, he composed music for Queen of knight reflecting her forceful, shrieking voice in the aria. Fantastic to see young faces of Pamina, Papageno, instead of middle aged divas!

I remember first seeing this in I believe 3rd grade, I wasnt even in the double digits yet, but it was kind of my awakening to music, especially orchestra. So much nostalgia I love it. Here I am now, in my sophomore year of high school at age 15, going on my 7th year of playing the violin and finally coming across this again.
My son had an awfully animated cartoon version of it as a kiddo (Which I replaced with a Real version when he was about 6), but it was his favorite! He could sing the Queen of the Night's big aria - and also the original Star Trek theme. It was a joy. He's a professional musician now.
For some reason, I've always liked opera but have never really known much about it, but thanks to streaming, I've been listening to it a lot more... so even without a trained ear, Dorethea is by far the most beautiful voice I've ever heard!

This is beyond wonderful! Zauberflote has been part of my life since I was 14, when I first saw it in the 1955 Horner sets from the Met. As an adult I've performed Papageno as well as Second Priest in two productions, and trained the chorus for those, so I know the opera well. This production is like a dream - visually and musically! I will be watching many times.
yes it can be tear jerking, especially the moment when Pamina cried out Tamino mein, and the final meet up of Papageno and Papagena. the pure innocence and child like joy, makes one's heart ache

Schöne Inszenierung ohne modernen Schnickschnack um das Publikum zu schockieren. Und ein hervorragender Tamino, auch wenn sein Kostüm ein wenig an einen überladenen Weihnachtsbaum erinnert.
Mon opéra préféré et de loin ! J'écoute chaque version que je peux et vais à l'opéra l'écouter à chaque fois que c'est possible. Sublime ! Une petit chose qui m'a amusé, Pamina est plus âgée que sa mère 🙂et donc, quand elle l'appelle "Muter" ça m'amuse mais c'est un détail qui n'a aucune importance.
I would have to say this is definitely my favourite Opera. I have watched and listened to this particular opera at least 50 times.. I dont think there is a better Tamino and Pamina duo in Piotr Beczala and Dorothea Roschmann. Their voices move me like nothing else.

Una estupenda producción, digna de la Ópera de París y con solistas notables y no tan conocidos como las y los superestrellas de hoy -léase Kaufmann, Netrebko, Terfel, etc-.,solventes, excelentes actores y de voces privilegiadas, como las de Beczala, Roschmannn, Rancatore, Salminen, quienes dan lo mejor de sí en este brillante espectáculo. Yes indeed……The Tamino is first rate. His beautiful tone would melt any iceberg. Also loved the three ladies trio…stentorian…you go girls! The conductor kept things moving and fresh. The kind of production I’d wish to be in were I still doing Papagenos. He was also excellent in my title part. Loved this show over all.

Thank you for this. This is the second opera I've watched. Mozart is the best. Papageno and Papagena---both are so cute! I love Papageno in here. I checked out some other versions of the opera but I think this one is the best interpretation of Papageno and Papagena, costume-wise. I'm not well versed in opera and just got started with it. Really, really, loved it. Everything of it! Just made my evening. Pamina is beautiful. Tamino's performer/actor/singer really gives out that graceful air. Queen of the Night!! One of my favorite parts have to be the anthropomorphic animals, it made me grin so much. Especially the scenes with Papageno. I think Papageno might be my favorite character haha
Excellent performance. I’m familiar with Die Zauberflöte but have never seen the complete performance. The costumes and make up were also outstanding. Enjoyed it tremendously. Thank you for letting the world see it and thank you for UA-cam \\\\\❤
Das ist die beste Interpretation von "Zauberflöte". Am besten sind Detlef Roth und Gaële Le Roi in der Aria "Pa pa pa" in dem Moment, wenn Töne senken, geht das Paar tiefer, die Nähe ist ausgezeichnet gespielt und ganze Szene ist nicht infantil, wie in anderen Interpretationen, die ich sah.

As you kindly also uploaded the same play performed in 2000, still at Paris, directed by the same people, I wanted to compare some arias in order to find the tiny differences between the two performances. I started with the aria of Papageno. I sync'd the two videos when Papageno sits down on the stool. I was excited to see a slightly different performances of this aria. Unfortunately it was the very same footages. The same editings, the same plans, the same performances, perfectly sync'd ! After being a little disapointed to can't see a second Papageno played by Roth&Le Roi, I was very amused by the fact that the editor took the footage of the recording of 2000 switching back to the recording of 2001 only when the queen of night is on stage ! You can even see it at the very end when the curtain falls that the queen of the night is Natalie Dessay and not Desiree Rancatore :D

Papageno and Papagena were perfectly matched in every way. Just adorable. I also thought the animal costumes were amazing!

Mon opéra préféré et de loin ! J'écoute chaque version que je peux et vais à l'opéra l'écouter à chaque fois que c'est possible. Sublime ! Une petit chose qui m'a amusé, Pamina est plus âgée que sa mère 🙂et donc, quand elle l'appelle "Muter" ça m'amuse mais c'est un détail qui n'a aucune importance.
Très bonne maîtrise des voix, autant féminines que masculines. Parfaite synchronisation des gestes et de la musique : l'émotion est au rendez-vous.

I would have to say this is definitely my favourite Opera. I have watched and listened to this particular opera at least 50 times.. I dont think there is a better Tamino and Pamina duo in Piotr Beczala and Dorothea Roschmann. Their voices move me like nothing else.

La mejor versión que he escuchado: en el idioma original (excepto los speechers), con intérpretes que no se aceleran en sus cantos, voces muy claras. Me gustó mucho el trío de damas y la reina de la noche, felicitaciones !!!

Una estupenda producción, digna de la Ópera de París y con solistas notables y no tan conocidos como las y los superestrellas de hoy -léase Kaufmann, Netrebko, Terfel, etc-.,solventes, excelentes actores y de voces privilegiadas, como las de Beczala, Roschmannn, Rancatore, Salminen, quienes dan lo mejor de sí en este brillante espectáculo. Yes indeed……The Tamino is first rate. His beautiful tone would melt any iceberg. Also loved the three ladies trio…stentorian…you go girls! The conductor kept things moving and fresh. The kind of production I’d wish to be in were I still doing Papagenos. He was also excellent in my title part. Loved this show over all.

Papageno and Papagena---both are so cute! I love Papageno in here. I checked out some other versions of the opera but I think this one is the best interpretation of Papageno and Papagena, costume-wise. I'm not well versed in opera and just got started with it. Really, really, loved it.
Everything of it! Just made my evening. Pamina is beautiful. Tamino's performer/actor/singer really gives out that graceful air. Queen of the Night!! One of my favorite parts have to be the anthropomorphic animals, it made me grin so much. Especially the scenes with Papageno. I think Papageno might be my favorite character haha

Das ist die beste Interpretation von "Zauberflöte". Am besten sind Detlef Roth und Gaële Le Roi in der Aria "Pa pa pa" in dem Moment, wenn Töne senken, geht das Paar tiefer, die Nähe ist ausgezeichnet gespielt und ganze Szene ist nicht infantil, wie in anderen Interpretationen, die ich sah.

As you kindly also uploaded the same play performed in 2000, still at Paris, directed by the same people, I wanted to compare some arias in order to find the tiny differences between the two performances.
I started with the aria of Papageno. I sync'd the two videos when Papageno sits down on the stool. I was excited to see a slightly different performances of this aria. Unfortunately it was the very same footages. The same editings, the same plans, the same performances, perfectly sync'd !
After being a little disapointed to can't see a second Papageno played by Roth&Le Roi, I was very amused by the fact that the editor took the footage of the recording of 2000 switching back to the recording of 2001 only when the queen of night is on stage !
You can even see it at the very end when the curtain falls that the queen of the night is Natalie Dessay and not Desiree Rancatore :D
