Well, I hope you missed me.
- Because we've got a lot to see!
For those of you who didn't see my previous posts in the past weeks across numerous social media, I decided to take a break after the cycle and filming due to being at the brink of a mental and physical breakdown. (I mean, look at all the stuff we did in the bloody trailer in the last two minutes of this video!).
As amazing as Journey Across Japan has been, 45 days on the road left me in a state of ruin.
And after resting in January properly for the first time since August, I now feel fully recharged. With at least a dozen episodes to go, I'm in the right frame of mind to do the series justice, with the videos being posted throughout February!
Thanks for your patience folks and enjoy the video!
Glad to see you back!
Finally i am so hyped
Woo hoo! I did miss you! Best YT on YT :)
This is probably the longest vlog uve ever done
Missed you so much! Loved watching your journey, and can’t wait to see the rest of it. So glad you were able to prioritise your health, and happy to hear that you’re on the mend. Congratulations on completing the cycle - that in and of itself is an incredible achievement, and I really do hope that you’re truly proud of what you’ve achieved.
"some even say Himeji castle looks like a heron taking flight, which is bollocks... because its a castle" is the kind of deep and meaningful cultural insight I come here to see. Fantastic video!
That part is hilarious!!!!
I heard a harem
Laughed my ass off!
actually made me laugh out loud when he said that in his Clarkson style patter
@@Emppu_T. Me too. I literally turned on the subtitles to make sure. What the hell is a "heron"? Okay, it looks like its German name is "Reiher". I've heard of that bird species before, but "reihern" is a way to say "throwing up".
30 seconds in and Chris is already complaining about a bridge .... I missed you lol

I'm starting to think that Ryotaro knows everyone in Japan.
6 degrees of separation.
He probably knows a few gents across Japan. Or had more then a few friends that scattered across Japan and has kept up with most.
Sure not incredibly likely but not impossible
He's like Comeau from Scott Pilgrim
Mr risottoro is big name in japan 🤭
He's existed for millions of years, he knows all within japan.
being positive and up-beat seems to physically hurt the british soul.

"can you fix the gears on my bicycle please?" gets handed back a 'fixed gear' bike lol
In this video he looks like Robert Downey Jr. riding a bicycle through Japan.
Ohnnooooo hahahaha

fixed gear bikes are slightly different. So people who see this don't get them confused.
@@cam_machi Man you really missed the joke.

"It isn't a ninja training school." That's what they want you to think.
It's the best one, because you can't see a single ninja. But they're all there. Waiting in the shadows. Waiting.

Agree !
Also "Full of hope dreams". "License to Salt" is good too..
6:57 Risottoro breaking one of the rules of "dont do this in japan"! Taking a business card and immediately putting it in his pocket without carefully examining it first! How rude!
I know my japanese do' s and don'ts by now, thanks to abroad in japan
Rafael White they are already friends so it’s less of an issue. Ryotaro also apologies for not having his business cards, which implies that he doesn’t have his card holder.
Good spot though!
Euan Morse ugh
@@euanmorse my thoughts exactly! The guy handing him the card looked away almost immediately lmao. That and the fact that they're already friends took away some of the need for such strict tradition to be enforced ✌️
Natsuki is probably the only guy Chris won't leave behind on their own, like he did with Joey, Sharla, Pete and probably do with Risottoro.
Natsuki left Chris behind on the very beginning ^^
@@chrispunkt407 that was because of a boiler if not he would've been there. But yeah, I guess that counts?
What do u mean by "leave them behind on their own"? Like he left him to go home on the train by himself?
what do you even mean
Who the fuck is risottoro? Lol
Tall people beware - I brained myself about six times at Himeji on various low beams, ceilings and doorways. I can confirm it’s sturdily built though.
I was thankful to be short when I visited there, what a beautiful castle!
C J hahaha how tall are u
So where’s the video of the castle?
Good thing I'm 5'5!
I can attest to C J. I am not even 1.9 m. Perhaps it is really made for Ninjas... able to sneak around must be a skill.
OMG he's alive, I thought he got eaten by Ryotaro.
This comment made my day. And I've already had a really good day!
He was, but Risottaro threw him up because he couldn't handle Chris's snarkiness
Ryotaro made him into risottoro
The Journey Across Japan series is the best travel documentary series I have seen, up there with Anthony Bourdain. I return to this again and again when life is difficult. It's a remarkable achievement where facts about culture, cuisine, geography is mixed with humor and really well written commentary. A small masterpiece.
I can't express how much I enjoy this channel, honestly the highlight of my day. Chris with his friends makes me feel like I'm right there shit talking with them

A beautiful video Chris, even though it’s been released for 6 seconds
Off to a good start on Season 2! The production quality is amazing btw! Keep up the good work!
I got so excited when the episode didn't end halfway through
"Some even say that it looks like a heron taking flight - which is bollocks because it's a castle."

"I genuinely thought that was the end of Risottoro."
LOL the Risottoro jokes never get old!

He earned that license.
omg..... A wild Chris Broad vid my day is made!!!!!
When the video started I instantly rubbed my hands together and said "Inspiration" out loud :'D You really do inspire me though to become a better UA-camr and person in general! Thanks dude! Looking fitter each day btw!
"Hey, can you fix my bike?"
"Sure!" *cuts gear wire" " You won't have any problem with changing gears now!"
I like how they decided to just irreparably break the bike and took the money though instead of telling them that they couldn't fix it and giving them a chance to find a specialist or just save themselves the money 😂
Damn mate, i always enjoyed your video's but you really took it up a notch with this one. Taking that break was a wise move. Keep up the good work!
Nice! A new video! I admit that the first time I clicked on one of your videos it was because I read your title as A Broad in Japan. I was initially very disappointed. However our communal distain for the artist Pitbull and your love of beef and biscuits won me over and now am looking forward to more videos after your much needed rest.
He literally is A Broad in Japan.
@@markwong7915 was gonna say the same lol
@@markwong7915 ah, forgive me. A "broad" is also a north American informal term for a woman. So, I read it as a woman in Japan, and I got Chris Broad. While he is a very fun and entertaining individual, he is not in fact a woman in Japan.
Everybody (with a few exceptions) knows what a broad is, but how could you not appreciate such a cheeky pun??
His Channel name is fucking genius!
@@markwong7915 ah good, I was afraid only me and 1950's gangsters used the term. You are very correct, Chris Broad is a cheeky genius!
Chris is lucky. He has some great friends. Natsuki and Ryotro are awesome!
How about Joey and Connor?
7:24 Ah, so confectionery is the Japanese secret to immortality. It is fortuitous that I watched this video, since it holds such a glorious nugget of wisdom that shall surely do me well during my six months in Japan.
"Some even say it looks like a heron...

My favorite part lmaooo
Every video should have at least one quote that defines the video.

I went to Himeji Castle 2 days after it reopened fully back in 2015 during the Sakura season and the crowds were heaving!!!
Very beautiful though. And a lot of cats as well!
I would certainly not enjoy watching a crowd heaving.
If Himeji Castle was a secret Ninja training base of course they’re not going to admit that they are...
/also... are you sure your bike just “broke” or is this a little payback by Sharla for the rollercoaster?
Lmao Sharla's losing her Canadian side, she's becoming evil. 😂 Every time she swears I get goosebumps.
@@elio_fay Every time I see her, I get goosebumps
SABOTAGE is her game.

*AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA*
Ankushアンクス his profile picture kind of makes it obvious
*in its side* thanks now i know where real life hentai is
I cracked when Chris realized that the rear derailleur was gone and he was trying to shift gears earlier
Yeah and the front only has 1 small gear. Mine just broke the rear derailleur as well while i was out in the street its annoying. You "could" technically still switch the gear by hand, but you'd have to stop turn the bike upside down and do it with your hands, keep the tension set straight and off you go. Now who they gave it to that couldn't fix it? that's the problem. In Tokyo you can't walk a block without seeing either a bicycle shop or bicycle repair shop, i seriously doubt they didn't see one on this trip. In my biased opinion Japan has the highest bicycle per capita population on earth (and Tokyo the most rail per capita as well).
Also i want to mention, yeah its true the off road tires need a bit more effort, but like he correctly said in the first episode, they tend to puncture less. Maybe Japan has cleaner streets but over here with the asphalt tires the tires would go flat almost every day. Also that accident when he hit the pole, i have suffered those as well, i know the feel :-) Good cycling!

No, that's why we kicked him out.

It is, but you need a license from the government to be positive.
No that's why he's been exiled to japan
I'm betting he had to can about half the footage from that day.
You gotta love a friend like mr. Ryotaro that has so much patience with a friend like you. Kudos to him!
Now as soon as possible you throw him a barbeque. With a lot of beer...
Thanks a lot for this series. My wife and I were supposed to travel to Japan this year, and of course this pandemic changed all that. We had a couple of great experiences doing bike trips in different places of the US, and watching you do the same in Japan is such a perfect combination of the familiar and the new... It has been a way to get a taste of what it would have been like, and a great motivator to go next year.
