Unfortunately, far too many children have uphill battles with self centered, or neglectful, or addicted, or mentally ill parents! Divorce in childhood is actually defined as a childhood trauma, often because parents don’t know how to behave and won’t seek out help so their children can learn healthy ways of dealing with it and their parents can learn to co-parent! A psychologist I was training with said that there were times he had to tell harmful parents, “Look, it took 13 years for you to get your son to this point….how many years will you give me to try to get him on the right track??” That’s certainly not something I was ever comfortable saying but boy, there were times when I wanted to!

Involuntary rehab has very dismal success rates. If an addict isn't willingly going into treatment, they will replace as soon as they are able to in nearly all cases. While I agree someone like this needs help, the entire crux of the issue is that you cannot force an alcoholic to get help no matter what you do. And she's endangering the public by drunk driving.

Judge Shackleford does tend to be "overly nice" more often than not, and in many cases *a total pushover.* Which usually irritates me, tbh. But today, her usual kind-hearted habit of being "overly nice" got spit right back in her face by the defendant, *while on the record.* And impo, she really had no other good option *but* to back up what she told the defendant just a short 24hrs prior. So yes, the defendant's brazen attitude, horrible decisions & complete disregard for the court was absolutely & wholeheartedly deserving of the sentence she earned herself. And I'd very much like to see Judge Shackleford keep this same energy in the future.💯

That defense attorney sure didn’t do himself any favors by saying the whole merry Christmas thing to the prosecutor at the end of the… no one should hire him for court in this jurisdiction for quite a while especially if in that particular prosecutor is on that case. Stupid…

I agree - I think that was VERY unprofessional, and if I was his client, I wouldn't like it and would tell him so.

Lawyer wants her to drive kids home from school while drunk? Nothing but excuses. Should have gotten 1 year.
