I've seen channels grow from 20k to 40k or 40k to 80k using shorts in a short time period.
Shorts are what UA-cam wants to push at the moment. They are not good for monetization but they are good for channel growth. The shorts can be snippets of your longer content so the only extra work you are doing is adding that people should watch the whole vid if they are interested. You can't make your audience like stuff though. Shorts can help you draw in new subs that DO like stuff like this.
