    I just subscribed to your channel.
    I’m enjoying your content.
    My wife and I live in a very mountainous area of north central Washington state, 5 miles from a small town and 1/2 an hour from a small city.
    We finished building our home in 19, but the end of May we’re going to MT (where my wife is from) to look at land to buy and build a 1500 - 1600 sq ft log house to relocate after she retires.
    We have 12 years to get everything built as we can afford to pay as we go.
    Up on her retirement we’ll sell our current property and put it in CDs and hopefully be able to live off of the interest, along with our retirements and SSI.
    Between fishing and the wildlife, our meat will be taken care of, so we’ll have to grow and freeze dry as much vegetables as possible.

    About 12 years ago, I was at a seasonal fishing village south of Prince Rupert, B.C., wheres theres no running water & outhouses. I had to use the outhouse about 3 am, it took me a while to work up a nerve to go outside where the bears & wolves are 😮. One year, David Suzuki & his film crew were there, shooting a Documentary for the tv show, called The Nature of Things. My sister & her daughter got on the show, while I was out on the huge fishing boat with the guys catching halibut. What an awesome experience.
    I'm new to your youtube channel, saying Hi, from London, Ontario

    Hi Guys, nice video. I love the cabin it is a beautiful cabin. I was surprised when you said you were going to work at a lodge. I was a Winter caretaker for remote fishing lodges for 30 years and retired from them. Actually, I applied at TIKCHIK NARROWS LODGE one time when they had a helicopter accident and their caretaker passed away, I was too late. I'm pretty sure I will enjoy watching you on your adventure. I have lived in Alaska all my life 76 years. Thanks for sharing

      Hi John! Tikchik really is a magical place. I've been a Fishing Guide there, going on 7 years. It is a dream of ours to Caretake during the winter someday!

    You guys are so fortunate living in your friend's cabin for the winter months. I'm sure you're seeing new ideas and planning some of them for your own place. Just saw your husband shovling the snow off the roof! wow, that's alot of snow. I'm loving the fireplace though because i once lived in a1920's bungalow and had a potbelly. Wish i still did. You guys take care and continue to love what you're doing. Where does your water come from?

    Inside compost toilets work great OR electric toilet- it will completely cremate the human waste to ashes.😊

    Your friends cabin is just charming, even with the shower in the kitchen. That’s the only thing I don’t like but love all the details and little touches. The dark green accent paint is simply stunning and makes the cabin special! Just a wonderful job!!! Very talented. Question, would the shower fit in a corner in the guest room???

    • @HomeSweetHomeAlaska
      @HomeSweetHomeAlaska  2 місяці тому

      Unfortunately, there is no space for a shower in the guest room.

    I lived in the bush in Alaska for several years....I ran a marine supply store, so I know.......Do not remove snow off the roof...you can cause damage to the roof.........The cabin is A frame style.....the snow slides off roof.....Solar panels are very good are now a must...... Oil, propane, wood......

    • @HomeSweetHomeAlaska
      @HomeSweetHomeAlaska  2 місяці тому

      Typically we don’t have to remove the snow. But we needed to prevent the ice damming that was happening.

    • @sarafinasegale9537

      @@HomeSweetHomeAlaska Do Not do it....Ice will melt.....Stay off your roof....I have opened fish camps, remote hunting lodges ECT...... Damage to yourself, damage to your cabin....Enjoy your adventures....Get a solar generator if nothing else...Solar panels are the best, specially in the area you are located....
      Your can get aid from state of Alaska, resistance get dividend money very year....
      Put outdoor solar panel lights on your cabin, outhouse....... Colored, regular white, it keeps predators away from your immediate area.....Looks nice and very homie as well..... Christmas lights if you will... Especially on the outhouse.....
